Not Mine to Keep

Rate this book
A playboy billionaire and a mafioso’s daughter ignite dangerous passions, vengeance, and betrayal in a sizzling novel of suspense by Wall Street Journal bestselling author Brittney Sahin.

The name DiMaggio means mafia royalty, but Calliope, the dynasty’s last living heir, is no princess. A teacher and singer in Nashville, she’s moved as far away from the generations-old criminal legacy as she can. But she still can’t escape her dying father’s wicked reach, or his plans for her arranged marriage to carry on the family name.

Playboy Alessandro Costa has a different plan: marry her himself—temporarily. It’ll give him a chance to take down the DiMaggio patriarch and his empire, settle an old debt, and save Calliope from a catastrophic fate. But when the attraction between them sizzles, business becomes pleasure and a marriage game becomes the real thing.

It only raises the stakes—and the danger. Because now they are living in the shadow of violent men who’ll do whatever it takes to destroy them. With their love and their lives on the line, Calliope and Alessandro are ready to fight fire with fire.

This is my first by this author and I really liked it. There's an instant connection between the main characters which is one of my favorite things, but it's not what I would call instant love. There's a lot of doubt and mistrust due to Callie's situation. The draw to each other is there and you can feel it. They just have to work through things to recognize what that draw is. I'm not the biggest fan of denial, especially when it goes on too long. That is the case with Alessandro. You do read later in the book why he feels that way so it isn't just a fear of commitment. I enjoyed the many side characters and love that we'll be getting a few of their stories in the series. I'm happy I picked this one up to read.

He's a billionaire playboy vigilante. She's a school teacher and (surprise!) mafia princess.

Alessandro and Calliope meet at a fundraiser and have instant chemistry. There’s flirting. There’s attraction. There’s going to be a hot night together?

Gotcha! I’ll never tell!

So often, a start like this goes off the rails for me because the characters suddenly become “enemies” (seemingly just for the sake of marketing the trope).

That’s not the case here. There are some moments of frustration between our MCs, but they don’t ever deny the attraction they share. They’re still just as interested in each other as they were prior to realizing their standing.

And that, my friends, is how Brittney Sahin wrote the absolute hell out of this slow burn. It wasn’t just nothing, nothing, nothing, BAM! There was so much angst while the MCs tried to fight what they were feeling. The sexual tension, y’all. Whew. Alessandro and Callie always had that flirty banter, and it was so much fun!

Brittney loves to write a damaged man, and I’m here for it! Her men are masculine and every bit the alpha, but they also have emotional moments of vulnerability. They just always read so real and complex.

As for Callie, she brings the sass. She’s such a fun FMC - I want to be her friend!

This one was lighter on the action, so it’d be a good place to dip your toe into this subgenre of romance. It’s the second book in the Costa Family series, but honestly, this reads really well as a standalone.

Combine a marriage of convenience to a mafia princess, toss in the hero’s too involved family, a reluctant bride and solving the mystery of who wants to have her eliminated. What you’ll have is Sahin’s next best seller, Not Mine To Keep.

NMTK mixes action, suspense, romance and smoking hot chemistry between Alessandro & Calliope. All of the elements we have come to appreciate and devour in a Brittney Sahin story.

A chance meeting (was it really) between Alessandro & Callie becomes a game of cat & mouse with the dark forces determined to stop her ascension to the DiMaggio family throne. The only way for Alessandro to help keep her safe is to marry her, in name only. And as in all good romance novels, the tension between the two builds until it’s palpable and can no longer be denied.

Some of our old friends from Sahin’s Dublin Nights series make a guest appearance and offer an assist in rooting out the bad guys. Izzy & Hudson almost steal the show with their antics and smolder. Good thing their story is next!
Looking forward to the continuation of this series.

I really believe this is a 1-star book but I gave it 2 because the basic premise for the story was interesting, and the book started well. Dying head of the Sicilian mafia discovers he has an illegitimate daughter and makes plans to breed her to a husband of his choice so that his future grandson can take his place, and a member of his organization tries to save her from the monster her father has picked by getting someone who owes him a favor to agree to marry her instead. This idea had all kinds of possibilities.

The illegitimate daughter and the replacement bridegroom meet and lust happens and he saves her life from assassins the next day. I decided not to dwell on the fact that our hero threw a knife through the jugular of the assassin armed with a gun. Coulda been a professional hitman with a really slow trigger finger and a slow brain to match, right?

But more caution signs started showing up quickly: banal dialogue, stock situations, exaggeration, superficiality. Any interest in the main characters waned quickly, after it became apparent that the MMC was going to spend the book rejecting emotion and relationships —he was incapable of feeling, as he’d told his $400 an hour therapist—and holding his attraction to the FMC at bay by being a jerk, and the FMC was an airhead who didn’t want to end up going to the “dark side” in her blood, or some horse shite like that.

On repeat. I was embarrassed for them on their wedding night. I cringed every time the MMC told her he was trying to save her from falling for him because he would break her heart. Because, you know, he was an emotional zombie and all. I winced when she bravely told him she could fall for him because, you know, he was an emotional zombie and all.

I only kept reading because I was hoping evil father would do something outrageous, but no. It all kept lurching along until the most boring BIG INTERNATIONAL CLANDESTINE OPS ever took place, and I couldn’t have cared less.

A billionaire bachelor and playboy, who dabbles in vigilante work on the side, crosses paths with a smart-mouthed school teacher, and part-time musician. Sparks fly, and attitude soars as they connect over shared chemistry and his lack of country music knowledge.

He never intends to marry, while she needs a marriage to save her future. She thinks she has 5 more years to find her future spouse as a newly-discovered mafia princess and only surviving heir to the bloodline. He learns she's about to be forced into marriage in a few days, and being the one to take her hand is his only chance at revenge. Together, they tackle the hurdle of wondering if you can find some light in the dark.

******

This is my first time reading this author, and after seeing the multitude of really positive reviews, I was excited to dive in. I really enjoyed how, despite this being partially into a branch off from an initial series, it didn't feel like you were missing a ton of context. I also enjoyed the nods to other characters and their relationships in the novel, as it was clear to see those stories would come around in the future to continue the series.

The development of the plot was steady and interesting, and I enjoyed the additional characters and how their own arcs contrasted with the leads, without them being lost in the shuffle.

I found the chemistry between Callie and Alessandro was solid, but the development and pace seemed way too fast. Within a week or so she was eluding to falling for him, getting jealous, and being upset about their temporary marriage ending. He was fighting against his own feelings and running hot and cold, but it felt off for me to see two characters openly admitting their interests that fast. Maybe if I'd read more of the other series I'd have the vibe set for this author, but I'm used to a bit more push and pull and chemistry development alongside time, before openly communicating they're a goner for the other.

I also found it odd to see how Alessandros' mother was made to be kept from his openly fake bride because she'd "get too attached." They had a scene where she forced her way into the apartment and was weird and clingy with Callie, but it was supposed to be played off as expected or normal. Being upset about being "kept from his wife" while being well aware it was fake was just odd and off-putting to me. It felt like unnecessary character interaction, just like Izzy offloading on her on her wedding day about getting and losing her as a member of the family.

Also, the male leads "damaging backstory" as to why he was incapable of love, despite the fact that he was regularly going to therapy and should have been able to process this felt odd too. It would be different if he was in his 20s, but we're supposed to believe an almost 40 year old man can't live with rejection for this long? While also going to therapy? I'd understand if he pined and longed for his ex without therapy, or was still young, or it was very recent. However, it just seemed like an illogical setup after breadcrumbs of him being broken from a previous relationship.

I would have liked to have seen more push and pull before confessing feelings, a bit less obsession from his family, and more options to see their feelings develop over time, versus such a heavy focus on plotting and planning their end.

Overall, it was a good novel and a series I'd read more of down the line!

ALESSANDRO!!

I have been reading Brittney’s books for 8 years now and she just keeps getting better and better. She never disappoints me and is a true perfectionist.
When an old friend calls in a debt Alessandro is a little bit reluctant to accept until he finds out the assignment is to protect Calliope the teacher/singer with sass who he has been putting his play boy charm on for. Alessandro shows us he’s a true gentleman and big teddy bear when it comes to those he loves and protects. This book is filled full of action, especially in one chapter 😉.
We get to catch up with some old friends and find out what they have been up to whilst they help the Costa’s get the revenge they have wanted for an old enemy whilst helping save Calliope.
There is also a little hint for the next book in the series which is Hudson and Izzy’s story.
Hope you all enjoy the book as Alessandro’s broken heart gets put back together Calliope. Xxx

"I thought you weren‘t mine to keep, and here you are, becoming all I want."

Our first time meeting the two main characters (aside from the previous books we met Alessandro in) is actually their first encounter as well. While Alessandro is a self-proclaimed bachelor/playboy, we learn from the first chapter that he wants to protect Calliope. But don‘t be fooled, she does not make it easy on him.

And while they both try awfully hard believing that they’re not the other‘s to keep, they‘re exactly right for each other (btw I LOVE how Brittney managed to incorporate the book‘s title several times).

As with any Brittney Sahin book, this one is full of unexpected twists and turns that she is able to intertwine seamlessly. Her stories always manage to capture the reader‘s attention – and keep it. You never anticipate what‘s going to happen next – she keeps you on the edge of your seat.

A very prominent theme in the book is light vs. dark. While Alessandro firmly believes he is on the dark end of the spectrum, Callie is able to show him that he‘s not. And as his brother Enzo put it: she‘s bringing him back to life.

What I love about Brittney‘s books is that I never know at the beginning where the story will take me – all I know is that it will be a wild ride with a happily ever after, adorned with suspense, romance, spice, friendship, team spirit, a tight-knit family (the Costas) and the most captivating storyline. Oh, and some amazing crossovers and cameos from some of our most favourite Brittney characters!

Bonus: If you‘re a fan of the "my wife" trope, this one‘s for you!

NOT MINE TO KEEP 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

**I received an ARC copy of this book in return for an honest, unbiased review. All thoughts are my own**

NOT MINE TO KEEP is the second book in Brittney Sahin’s Costa Family Series ( Let Me Love You being the first).

Summoned to a meeting, acclaimed Billionaire Alessandro Costa meets Calliope DiMaggio, reluctant mafia heiress whilst waiting for his acquaintance to arrive. Despite there being an undeniable attraction Alessandro has neither the time or inclination for a long term relationship and when he discovers that ethereal beauty Calliope is in fact his next ‘job’, he vows to keep her safe whilst keeping his distance.

-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-

Alessandro is a damaged, antihero who keeps his soft side hidden under a hard exterior. Calliope is an independent, stubborn woman, who cares deeply about those around her.

Ms Sahin writes her characters so beautifully you can’t help but empathise with them. She writes charismatic heroes with flaws, true heart and believable emotions and well rounded, interesting side characters. Whilst you are completely focused on the main characters, Sahin somehow manages to weave sub plots in there that hint towards possible future books.

The villains in NOT MINE TO KEEP really are shiver inspiring - Ms Sahin doesn’t need to go into heavy, dark descriptions to paint a picture, instead she cleverly gives the reader just enough information to come to their own conclusions.

Ms Sahin’s ability to not only come up with dark, intricate and complex plots, but to write in such a way that the reader can painlessly follow along is enviable. I am in awe at her ability to keep all her ducks in a row. No subplot is left hanging and each thread is neatly tied in a bow by the end.

I absolutely loved this book! I admit that I was unsure whether I would ‘feel’ Alessandro before starting. The whole ‘Mafia’ thing normally isn’t my thing, but it isn’t overdone in the book and I really did enjoy it. I also like the length of this book - At no point do you feel like there’s a rush to get to a certain point in the story. I find some authors writing a bit ‘formulaic’, something that Ms Sahin’s books most definitely are NOT. She lets the story run its course and come to it’s own conclusion when it’s ready and the book is all the more enjoyable for it. There were also several cameo appearances of characters from Ms Sahin’s previous series, something (being a fan of Ms Sahin’s previous work) I really enjoyed. That said I don’t think it detracts from the story for those who are new to Ms Sahin’s work. NOT MINE TO KEEP is the second book in the Costa Family series and whilst it is a stand-alone I would highly recommend you also read ‘Let Me Love You’ the first in the series.

NOT MINE TO KEEP is a story including:
Repressed attraction
Mafia
Suspense
Age gap (10 years)
Forced proximity
Vile villains
Flawed hero
Family angst
Plenty of action
A soupçon of humour
And of course a HEA.

ARC REVIEW:

"There was something about this moment, with us laying our cards on the table and having nothin in between us now, that had me nervous."-Alessandro

Britney does it again. Book 3 in the Costa family saga does not disappoint. Calliope, secret mafia heir, and high school teacher, meets Alessandro, billionaire vigilante, at just the right time in her life, when she needs "saving". Unbeknownst to him, he needs rescuing too.

While Britney's books always have HEA endings, there so much drama, fun and spice along the way. Her characters comes across as "real" and you want to know them in real life. Their marriage of convenience breaks downs walls and barriers they've both been hiding behind for years, and brings down the "bad" guys.

Make sure you have time to read. It's tough to put down. 15/10 stars.

I received an ARC of this book, and let me tell you that Brittney Sahin has done it again!

Alessandro Costa, a "lifelong bachelor" and Calliope aka Callie, a history teacher and musician, meet at an auction, and their chemistry is off the charts from that moment. They try to deny their attraction and feelings for one another, but eventually, they give in, and then life happens.

I love Callie and Alessandro. They are so good for each other, the chemistry, the banter, the love, this book has it all.

I've read a lot of these authors' books, and I can't wait for the next release! Her stories have me sitting on the edge of my seat, in tears, giggling, or staying up late because I can't put it down! (Alessandro has even made my book boyfriend list!*swoon*)

This book contains......
Romance, suspense, action, Mafia, age gap, forced proximity, marriage of convenience/arranged marriage, "retired" military, opposites attract....Just to name a few 😉

I received an ARC of this book. Another great read by Brittney Sahin. The chemistry between Alessandro and Callie is off the charts. Getting to see some of our favorites from a previous series is always fun and Brittney does a great job of inserting them in. a way that is completely organic; like no other person could fill that role other than that character (I don't want to mention names and spoil anything). I love how tight-knit the Costa family is and how quickly they pull Callie in as one of them. My favorite thing about all of Brittney's books is that she creates characters that are just so darn likeable and Not Mine to Keep is no different. Of course you root for them, but more than anything I just really like them as people/characters. The storyline was great, there were some twists that had you wondering who our characters could trust, and I didn't want it to end!

Of course she doesn’t again. There’s not a down moment with this book, meaning, how can I put it down? I ate this book up in a day. I had been waiting for Alessandro’s book since forever, and it didn’t disappoint! Marriage of convenience, mafia, the league….. it was phenomenal, Brittney will forever be one of my favorite writers. The chemistry between Alessandro and Callie were perfection, their banter made me laugh at time and also hurt for them. The Costa’s are a beautiful family that supports each other no matter what, and I love that. Callie was a strong woman that was willing to sacrifice her happiness to keep the people she loved safe, and Alessandro did exactly the same. What neither of them expected, is that there were going to be feelings, and the development of those feeling were great. Seeing the playboy falling for Callie was epic. This is a must read, and it you have read her books, you will enjoy how she connects others stories. However, this can be read as a standalone. Absolutely a must read!

ARC Review ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Action, adventure, suspense & intrigue all wrapped up in red hot romance 🔥

I love Brittney’s particular blend of Action, Suspense and Romance - for me, she mixes those ingredients together in exactly the right measure, like the perfect Margarita! The cinematic, sweeping locations; the flowing, suspenseful plot twists; the seamless, fluid character development are all written with a finesse which is rare and special and satisfies my little romantic suspense loving heart - and this book has all of that in spades!

I'd class this book as 'Mafia adjacent' as both the MCs are merely on the periphery of that life, but the FMC’s family ties are pulling her into it against her will and the MMC tries to help save her from that.

Calliope is brave, feisty and sassy - the kind of FMC that makes me want to be her bestie. She gives as good as she gets and her bantering conversations and flirty text chats with Alessandro (MMC) are highly entertaining.

Alessandro is a little damaged, with some red flags on display. He thinks he’s more ‘anti-hero’ but as the story unfolds we see the true heart of his character. He’s a delectable mix of gentle and kind with a morally grey edge - flawed, but a true, self-sacrificing, inherently 'good' hero. He’s also gloriously spicy hot 🔥 and those 'my wife' moments are delectable!

The chemistry between the MCs is so beautifully written it's tangible. They try to restrain it, but the forced proximity of their evolving circumstances teases their sexual chemistry to tantalisingly explosive levels!

This can absolutely be read as a standalone, but I recommend reading the first book in the series, 'Let Me Love You' (cos it's damn good!)

Looking forward to the audio release!

I'm a huuuuuuge fan of the marriage of convenience/fake relationship trope, which this book has. The relationship and chemistry between the two characters was great. Unfortunately, this book didn't stand out to me as something fantastic or one of my favorite books, but it was a good read.

ARC Review *****

I loved it. I’ve read so many of this author's books, and this one did not disappoint. And let me tell you, it had two tropes that I usually avoid … marriage of convenience and mafia daughter, but it didn’t matter to me because the characters carried the story and it held my attention with the usual intrigue that you see in a Sahin novel.

I am definitely looking forward to the next in the series and anything else she brings to us with her wonderful stories and characters.

Ah, the Costa brothers ❤️. In Not Mine to Keep (2nd book in the series) we meet Alessandro Costa, confirmed bachelor and ladies man who is about to meet his match! Callie is everything Alessandro didn’t know he was looking for. Their slow burn eventually ignites with passion along with intrigue, suspense, mafia, HEA, and the appearance of some old friends!

Brittney knows how to weave a tale. She hooked me by the first chapter! I have read all of her books (some multiple times), and I am always amazed at her attention to detail. The twists and turns always have purpose and you are left feeling satisfied yet eager for the next book. You don’t need to read previous books to enjoy this one, however it is delightful to be reunited with characters from her other books as well as feeling like you have “inside knowledge” about these old friends. So here’s to friends, old and new, and the wild ride Brittney takes us on with them.

Enjoy! I did received an ARC of this book. I now patiently await Hudson’s and Constantine’s books!

Brittney Sahin does it again. I loved the Costa family from the moment I read Let me love you. Alessandro Costa is the consummate rich New York playboy. That is until he meets Calliope. He has to marry her to repay a debt for someone saving his and his brother’s life. What starts out as a job to keep an innocent woman out of the hands of a psychopath ends up being what finally makes him remember he has a heart and helps him find his “the one”. Awesome book in a fabulous series.

Alessandro Costa is a playboy billionaire who never intends to marry. However, once he meets Calliope, a school teacher and aspiring country music singer, he knows he he will do anything to keep her safe from her estranged Mafia boss father- and everyone who wants to stop her from inherenting her father's criminal organization.

The plan is to protect Calliope by marrying her and " pretending" to work on producing an heir- and keep her safe while he and his brothers hunt down the bad guys and settle some old scores. It was a temporary arrangement. She was never supposed to be his to keep.

Brittney Sahin is the Queen of Romantic Suspense. This cinematic worthy book is full of twists and turns that will keep up reading, way past your bedtime, but will leave your heart full.

I am obsessed with Alessandro and Calliope! Just obsessed. Not Mine To Keep by Brittany Sahin is absolutely unputdownable! It had the twists, the thrill, the adrenaline rush and the explosive turns of an great romantic suspense. It had the perfect slow burn and angst of a marriage of convenience becoming real love. The chemistry is scorching hot. Alessandro is the epic alpha hero who just made me go crazy for him from the first page. The billionaire with a tragic past and a dark side? Count me in. Calliope was innocent but she was sucked into the world of danger, crime and evil due to her blood line. She is equally sassy and sweet. I was completely lost in the pages where passion, action, suspense, heartache and happily ever after unfold beautifully.

✔️ billionaire romance
✔️ mafia romance
✔️ ex military alpha hero with vigilante family holding money and power
✔️ fake marriage
✔️ she is off limits

Ex military and now billionaire businessman with a secret vigilante side, Alessandro Costa was fascinated with Calliope at the first sight. Little did he know that she will become his next mission. To pay an old debt, he has to marry her and save her from her mafia boss father's nefarious plans and also take him down..while getting revenge for his brother. So many things can go wrong and the worst is falling for his fake wife.

Alessandro Costa is so sure that he isn't worthy of love and that he doesn't want happily ever after. His military life and later the missions with his family taking down the evil all over world has left his heart hardened. Or at least he thought so. Because Calliope threatened to smash the walls from the first meeting. She ignited such an overwhelming and all consuming protectiveness and possessiveness in him. It was inconvenient and unreal for him. Calliope has been raised by her aunt and until recently she had no idea that her mother was Italy's most feared mafia boss' mistress. Now her father wants her to get married to man of his choice and handle the empire over to her. It was a mess. Alessandro took the mission of marrying her and convincing her father to let her stay with him in USA in name of revenge but all he wanted was to keep her safe. He kept himself away but Calliope got under his skin and inside his heart. Calliope knew falling for an emotionally unavailable man will only cause hurt but it was impossible not too. The plot is fast paced and full of danger. The action and suspense play a very important role and I was biting my nails all the time. My heart was beating fast in last few chapters. Callie healed Alessandro and he gave her everything he could. Love. Loyalty. Devotion. And the sex? Oh my god it was filthy as hell..Alessandro has dirty mouth. Since it was slow burn, the tension was building up and when the dam broke, it was explosive.

"Not Mine to Keep" by Brittney Sahin follows Alessandro and Callie.

Alessandro Costa is one of three Costa brothers whose father is in the Italian mafia. Alessandro entered the military and after the death of his sister, became a contract killer for one of the three letter government agencies. Once he fulfilled the deal his father made on his behalf, he and his brothers created their own security firm.

mafia ➡️ military ➡️ contract killer ➡️ private security

Calliope is the daughter and sole heir of another Italian mafia organization; an organization she wants nothing to do with. She's a teacher and a country music artist living in Nashville, TN.

In addition to the fake marriage trope and the romance between Alessandro and Calliope, we're given insta-love (3-weeks from the date they met) and a revenge subplot that spans 15(ish) years.

There's a lot going on in Alessandro and Calliope's story. So much so, that I found it hard to invest in their relationship and the story. The revenge plot doesn't pick up until the last 20% of the story. Brittney Sahin used this as an opportunity to reintroduce some characters from previous series as well as set the ground work for a relationship between Alessandro's best friend and his youngest sister.

While this story didn't hit the mark (pun intended) for me, I think "Not Mine to Keep" will be enjoyed by other romance readers.

This book was even better than the first one. You become so invested in Alessandro and Calliope journey from the start. They both have very strong characters who are extremely determined to have things to their way. Calliope is just a normal country girl or so she thought until her mother passed always. Since then, she has had her world rocked and now it is about to explode when she meets Alessandro. Alessandro owes a debt and is her to pay it and then leave. He never expected to find a woman who catches his eye but things are not always how we think. What happens when they both collide? I was given an ARC through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

The queen of romantic suspense

Brittney Sahin is the queen of romantic suspense! I've love the Costa family and this might be my favorite of the series!

Alessandro was brooding, which he totally pulls off, and Calliope was the perfect amount of strong and sassy to bring him to his knees!

There was so much action in this book I didn't want to stop listening! I think the audio made the suspense feel so much more real based on the emotions the narrators were putting into the story!

I love how the family comes together in times of trouble and I can't wait to see what the next story brings!

Love this author and her combination of romance danger and twists and turns!
The romance between Alessandro and Calliope was hot, both trying to fight it since it was (supposedly) only for appearances . But the more time and emotions shared together the harder it was. This the first of the Costa series I have read, but going back to read the first, Enzo and Maria’s story.
If you like your stories with suspense, hot romance with a little Mafia thrown in,
Grab this book.

I don’t know how but every man Brittney writes is more swoony than the last! Fake marriages are always my favorite. I love watching how they go from “this isn’t real” to touch her and die. This man was possessive before he ever realized he was already gone for her! The story line is full of action and suspense with a sprinkle of country music on top. Definitely another great read from Brittney!

I loved it! The chemistry between Alessandro and Calliope, the banter and stuff between Hudson and Izzy....especially when the kissing scene and Alessandro's reaction, how protective his family was over her from the get go.. all of it, was as perfected as I expected it to be! Every book I read, I feel like it's the best one yet...and yet, the next one comes and steals the title. I cannot wait to see where life takes them in the upcoming books!

Synopsis: Alessandro and Calliope's worlds unexpectedly collide when they are suddenly thrust into a whirlwind of danger, deception, and mafia politics. Callie, recently revealed as the daughter of a Sicilian mafia boss, faces an arranged marriage meant to secure her family's legacy. Alessandro, summoned to help her, is torn between protecting Callie and fulfilling his personal mission for revenge. As enemies target them and secrets unravel, the two must navigate a perilous path—balancing loyalty, power struggles, and a growing attraction that neither can ignore. Together, they must push past insecurities and decide if their love can survive in a world surrounded by darkness.

Thoughts: Alessandro and Calliope make a phenomenal couple. From their chance meeting, to eventual forced partnership, their chemistry was off the charts. I just loved their meet-cute at the veteran benefit. I immediately adored both characters from Alessandro's internal thoughts about Callie, to Callie's quick wit, specifically with her line "When your eyes make it to my face, I'll give my words." You could tell Alessandro was a goner from the beginning. Despite what he repeatedly said about their arrangement being temporary and that he would never have feelings for Callie, his actions sure showed the exact opposite. He continually contradicted himself, only making it more confusing and frustrating for Callie. I'm glad she was stubborn and developed a strong determination to push Alessandro past his comfort zone. Although she did try to keep their set boundaries in the beginning, I think she knew deep down they were good for each other, and that their mutual feelings were worth pursuing. I don't think any other character could get past Alessandro's walls. All parts of her personality snagged his attention, and he quickly became a reformed playboy. Not only because of her willfulness, but sassy quips and soft vulnerability too. This allowed him to let go and be comfortable enough to be the same, showing what she coined his "sweet teddy bear" side. And teddy bear Alessandro was absolutely adorable! Particularly under the influence of drugs. He was so cute in Chapter 16 when he visited after completing her father's mission for him. The two of them were like magnets, always drawn to each other, no matter their physical or mental state. The book was such a page-turner from the action and storyline, to the constant tension emitting from each page. I think my favorite part of the book might be Alessandro and Callie's text exchanges. I reread them, especially Alessandro's, because they were so sweet and he seemed to be more honest during these conversations. This book also had some exciting foreshadowing scenes for Hudson and Izzy's relationship and book. I'm looking forward to reading their story next, as Brittney's books only seem to get better and better.

Very action-packed.
Very Billionaire playboy vigilante (it's giving Batman, and I'm not mad about it).
This was fun and steamy, and the fake dating/marriage of convenience was done great.
I'm definitely reading the other books in this series because I'm very curious about the rest of the family.
Overall, this was a very enjoyable read.

Thank you to Netgalley and Publishers for giving me a copy of this book in return for my honest review.

So first time reading a Brittany Sahin book and I will definitely read more. I really enjoyed this book. Alessandro is a babe.... a big teddy bear and I loved him. It was a good pace and I won't lie my heart was in my ass towards the end, the suspense hit!
I know there are a whole bunch of books relating to other characters before this but I didn't feel lost at all, everything was pretty much laid out for me.
