Loyalty and love can ruin you. But hope is the deadliest of all.
For ten years Demitria Collins has fought the creatures of nightmares to protect the one person she has left. With a rising string of demon attacks on the forefront, she knows it’s only a matter of time until they’re next.

But when a routine patrol goes awry, and Demitria has a fated encounter with the legendary Horsemen known as War, everything she fought for is threatened. Including her life.

Kellan, one of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, has been sent to Earth by the High Council of Eden to restore the balance with his siblings. Dispatched on their newest assignment, he expected the task to be simple. Not for his charge to be human.

When a split second decision leaves even more blood on his hands, Kellan has questions for the council– Ones they won't answer.

The warrior should embody everything Demitria hates, but a growing darkness forces them into an unlikely allegiance to uncover a deadly truth. When an inexplicable pull complicates matters even worse, and that unyielding hostility turns into something beautiful and fiery that breaks through every belief they’ve ever had, both know the consequences will be deadly.

But together, they might stand a chance to restore order before the ultimate destruction of a planet that she, and the High Council, hold dear.

BLOOD & WAR is a new adult romantasy by debut author Belle Walker. Combining the epic journey and heart stopping romance of A COURT OF THORNS AND ROSES, the scorching spice from FALL OF RUIN AND WRATH, and the dark vibes of SUPERNATURAL, this story will appeal to fans of heated romance with high stakes!

A solid 3.5 so I rounded up to 4 since this was an ARC read.

I really struggled through 60% of the book and put it down to take breaks several times. And then I felt the author really found their footing.

There is a lot of just travel, something happens but it’s fast, and then back to travel. The pacing felt off to me. There were a few times when I wondered why the author bothered to have multiple POV when you could get in the other characters heads in any POV. It could use some tune ups there. This book had more typos than any other ARCs I’ve had but I didn’t hold that against it. I also didn’t really feel chemistry between the two main love interests.

The ending though. It really clipped along. I felt much more like I wanted to hear the rest. The way it ended definitely makes me feel ready for book two. If the first half of the book matched the story and pace of the second half I would have rated higher.

I wanted to like this book. The premise is so good! On top of that I was given the book as an ARC.

Unfortunately, the book fell short for me. I DNF’ed the book at 68%. So much of the book is spent traveling. Traveling to this cave, that cave, this trade outpost that community. I struggled to get through to the next page. I found myself constantly asking, “why is this important?!” The book really didn’t start getting interesting until after 50% book. That’s too long for me. I want to be hooked in and kept interested throughout the book.

There’s lots of repetition. The FMC constantly talks about Jace and her community and her people. Yes yes I get it. Let’s move on with the plot.

Also, I don’t understand why the ascension occurred in the first place?

I wasn’t feeling the chemistry between the FMC and War.

The writing was done well. Just the pacing and plot didn’t deliver.

Book: Blood & War by Belle Walker
5/5 ⭐️

“She may be flawed, but she was not broken.”

WHAT. A. DEBUT!

Walker has crafted a unique Earth-based, post-apocalyptic/dystopian fantasy filled with heart (and heartbreak). Angels, demons, humans (and more) make up this fast-paced narrative.

I loved Demitria. I loved her fierceness, her rage, her softness, her surety; her humanity. She’s a better person than I. She was such a wonderful protagonist to root for and was someone you wanted to see succeed at every turn. I felt connected to her and the emotions she felt, the ease at which she’d cry (because hi, SAME), and the way she fights for those she loves. I can truly feel the care with which Walker crafted Demitria.

Kellan was *chef’s kiss*. I love me a baddie MMC turned-softie-do-anything-for-your-girl type.

I loved the way Walker portrayed that release of holding onto guilt for things that aren’t our fault. Of healing and acceptance. Of being true to ourselves even if the world is telling us to be something else.

10/10 smut.

Ummm that ending?! Hello? Can I have book 2 now, Belle??? No? Please!!

My only gripe is I needed the twins to suffer (immensely) 🤣

Absolutely canNOT wait for the sequel!!

“‘The fear you smell is nothing but your own.’ She growled. Turning with him, meeting his gaze every step of the way. She wouldn’t be afraid, not anymore. She was strong, and she was still standing.”

Forbidden love. ❤️‍🔥 Enemies to lovers. ⚔️ Touch her and die. ⚰️ Tortured souls bonding. ❤️‍🩹Falling for your captor. ⛓️‍💥 Found family. 👩🏼‍❤️‍👨🏼

Four Horseman. Post apocalyptic world. Angels. Demons.

Demetria Collins is a force to be reckoned with who refuses to bow to anyone. In her post apocalyptic world, she is fierce and determined. With a tortured past that haunts her, she will defend her community and sacrifice herself for a chance to save the ones she loves. When she is hunted by both sides of the supernatural war that has taken over her home land, she is forced to question everything she believes in to get her answers.

“She may be flawed, but she was not broken.”

Kellan is the horseman of war. Known for being brutal and destructive. He follows orders and doesn’t ask questions. Feared by all humans, until he meets Demetria. After one encounter with her, he is left with nothing but questions and will have to go against everything he stands for to learn the answers to those questions.

“‘I don’t claim to know about your past beyond what has been said,’ She started, slowly meeting his piercing gaze. ‘But from what I gather, you and I have shared similar fates. Bound to those we love to a fault, and doomed to a life we can’t live.’”

Belle Walker has made an INCREDIBLE debut! This was such a fun and emotional read. I was invested in the characters and the story. I CAN’T WAIT for the sequel!!! Fans of Supernatural, The Walking Dead, adventure and romance with a dark twist RUN to get lost in your next favorite world and adventure!

3.5 stars. Overall I enjoyed this book! I feel like the world building was lacking a bit; I wanted more and was a little confused on the whole concept. There were some holes it seemed in the reader getting the whole picture of the world especially with the horsemen and their background. (Why and how was kellan with the dark king? What exactly is the distinction between the different species: horsemen and the fallen and nephilim and the demons?) I understand that basically demons came to earth and so did nephilim but then they became fallen because of it? Maybe I just missed some of this, but the whole apocalyptic world and how it came to be could have used some more explanation. Honestly, I feel like a prologue with a brief synopsis about the ascension and the different species would do a lot for the book.
That being said, the writing was good and the characters were fun. I do wish the relationship between Kellan and Demitria had been a little more developed. They kind of went from zero to sixty pretty quickly without any of the nuance of an “enemies to lovers” type story.
The plot and the characters has great potential though and I think with the next book (hopefully) we’ll get a little bit more of the background story and a more developed relationship between our main characters. I have hope for the series, and I did enjoy the story!

Set in an apocalyptic world, where demons & angels fight for control and humans are stuck in the middle trying to survive. Demitria is trying to support and protect her community, when the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse are sent to kill her. Kellan, the Horseman of War, finds himself unable to kill her to keep the balance and is drawn inexplicably towards her.

I thought the story line was really interesting and I loved the demons vs angels backstory, with the inclusion of the Horsemen as I thought it refreshing from other fantasy books. Occasionally the pace was slower than I’d like, before really ramping up for the action sections and it didn’t build as much as I’d have liked towards the end. I love Kellan as a brooding MMC but I felt there could have been more of a build / chemistry between him and Demitria. The ending however, left me wanting more and I’m now impatiently waiting for the next instalment so I can find out what happens next.

I was lucky enough to receive an eARC for this book.

I thought this was a decent debut. Nothing that really grabbed hold of me and kept me overly invested, but nothing wrong with the story either.

I was expecting a little more mayhem from the Four Horsemen and that sort of failed, although the main MMC War (Kellan) does go through a pretty aggressive spot at the end there.

This was a true enemies to lovers as War was sent to eliminate Dimitria and then they end up falling for each other over the span of a few weeks.

Dimitria also has a very close knit relationship with Jace, whom she grew up with. Their relationship was sweet as they are each other's life raft.

I'm intrigued after the ending to see how the characters progress in the next book.

Read if you love:
-Angels and Demons
-Four horsemen
-Dystopian setting
-Touch her and die
-Enemies to lovers

Thank you to The Nerd Fam and the author for the eARC. My thoughts are entirely my own.

This was my first post apocalyptic Romantasy, or a book with the 4 horseman. There were a lot of great aspects about this book. I really enjoyed the overall plot, and the vibes of the book. I also loved the true enemies to lovers and the slow burn. Also the way this book ended was not at all what I was expecting.

I am really hoping there is book 2 because I have a lot of questions that I felt went unanswered. I need to know more of Kellen’s back story, I felt like I was missing something to truly connect with him. I also need to know why everyone wants Demitria unalived.

Overall I enjoyed this book, but I also hope there is more coming to settle some of my questions. Great start to a series!

Thank you to the Nerd Fam for the gift of this ARC, I always appreciate being an ARC reader.

It took me a bit to get into this story as the world building took me awhile to get through. The pace really started to pick up around 40% into the story. While the book was enemies to lovers, I felt as though the enemy portion didn’t last very long at all. I felt more of an instant connection between Kellan and Demitria.

While the first have of the book was slow, I absolutely love the second half. The devotion that Kellan had towards Demitria was *chefs kiss*. That man did a full 180 so quickly it almost gave me whiplash. Overall, I think this story has amazing potential and I cannot wait for book two especially after that ending. Like, oh my goodness I was not expecting that at all!

While the premise and idea for this story was really unique and cool, I found the actual story severely lacking. There were some gaps in world building and too many repetitive phrases. I didn’t feel any connection or emotions involvement in any of the characters. I had to force myself to pick up this book and keep reading. I made it to 80% but unfortunately I think I’ll have to DNF this one.

It’s slow moving, and when action does happen it lasts about a page, maybe three before it’s quickly over. There’s no chemistry between the FMC and MMC and I actually found myself rooting for the FMCs childhood best friend more than the real love interest.

I was blessed to receive this as an ARC, I wasn’t paid to leave this review. I truly wish the author all the best!! She has so much potential but I really think this story needed a bit more work before it was ready for the public. This one just wasn’t for me unfortunately!

Thank you to The Nerd Fam for the gifted ARC. #bloodandwar #thenerdfam

Overall, the book definitely has potential. The story is interesting, and you can see the spots where it shines like the battle scenes and that finale cliffhanger. My biggest critique is that the pacing is not great. The first 2/3 of the book were very slow and very few things happened, and when they did they were over very quickly. The final 1/3 felt rushed and crammed quite a bit into the story without elaborating or fleshing out. I didn’t dislike the book, and am curious to see where the story continues, but it did at times feel like work to get through. I can see the ACOTAR and AFORAW inspirations, but Supernatural as an “inspo” is a stretch - maybe The End episode if you squint really hard.

My notes while reading:
-the world building needs to be on page quite a bit more. Yes it’s earth, but outside of Solis there is minimal world building. The descriptions of the compound were great, I’d love to see that level and beyond for the rest of the places mentioned.
-conversations don’t always come off as realistic, whether that is the lack of colloquial language or the jumping around of emotions without explaining. It came off a bit robotic, and I think fleshing out the characters and their quirks and traits will help smooth out the dialogue.
-the beginning especially got quite repetitive, not sure if that was an editing miss or if it was intentional, but it made Demitria very annoying for the first half of the book.
-the 2nd half of the book did a better job at making Demitria and Kellan a bit more substantive, but every other character (especially the twins, Eire, and Lucifer) were very 2 dimensional - more trope/caricature than personality or depth. I think the stakes would be higher and the tension more enticing if these characters felt more like actual people
-the absolute best part of the story was Atlas. Fabulous job explaining his personality and getting the reader to actually care for the animal character. I would’ve rooted if anything happened to him.
-as for the romance sub plot, it was meh. Seemed more instalove than enemies to lovers, and could benefit from the characters getting more fleshed out. And banter. There was mentioned “they bantered” but it wasn’t really on the page at all. Add some flirty banter a la Rhys/Feyre and it will be fire
-lastly, and this just may be a personal thing for me, the traveling distance and times never added up. With as much traveling as went on, it seemed like the time it took to go the same distances was different each time and made me very confused. Having a map and a bit more consistent travel times should fix that though.

✨Blood and War✨

In the post-apocalyptic world where Fallout meets The Four Horseman, we get to delve into a dying world riddled with demons and angels.

It’s been ten years since the ascension and the deaths of Demitria and Jace’s family. They’re all each other have left and the demon raids continue to increase. When a patrol goes wrong, Demi finds herself kidnapped by one of the Four Horsemen, War. But Kellan’s (War) mission takes a turn when he realizes his target isn’t who he was told.

Demi and Kellan now venture to seek answers. With her community turning on her, demons attacking her, and the High Council avoiding assistance, twists and turns in a dying land abound.

This book was really fun and unique! The Horsemen, angels, and creatures are dark, morally grey, and yet -in some cases- lovable. The tension is 🔥. The mystery elusive. I enjoyed the compassion of the FMC who has lost everything and been given no choice for her circumstances. Her friendship with Jace is so incredible. And our Kellan, he is fierce, deadly, but maybe a bit of a burnt cinnamon roll just for her. 🤭

Tropes you may find in BAW are forbidden love, morally grey MMC, demons and angels, dual POV, forced proximity, post-apocalyptic lands, horse sidekick, spooky vibes, enemies to reluctant allis to lovers, knife to throat, and slow burn to spice 2/5.

Thank you, Belle, for this gifted arc! I can’t wait to see what’s next in store for our characters!

"Bound to those we love to a fault, and doomed to a life we can't live." This line sums up the emotional depth of Blood & War, a dark fantasy that completely took me by surprise. From the moment I started this book, I knew I was in for something special.

The story follows Demitria Collins, a fierce warrior who has spent the last decade fighting demons to protect the one person she has left in her life. Just when things couldn’t get worse, she crosses paths with Kellan, one of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, also known as War. And let me tell you—Kellan is a force to be reckoned with. His brooding, dangerous nature combined with the "touch her and die" energy made their interactions electric.

This book delivers all the tropes I love:

Enemies to Lovers
Slow Burn 🔥
Forced Proximity
Demons & Angels
Knife to Throat tension
And, of course, the Horsemen of the Apocalypse!

The lore and world-building had me hooked from page one. The dynamic between Kellan and Demitria is full of tension and angst, making their slow-burn relationship all the more satisfying. The stakes are high, the action is intense, and the romance is fiery. I absolutely loved how the Four Horsemen were portrayed, and the angel vs. demon war felt fresh and exciting.

If you’re a fan of dark, gritty fantasy with Supernatural vibes and sizzling romance, Blood & War is the perfect pick. I can't recommend it enough—get your pre-order in if you love high-stakes romantasy!

For ten years, Demetria Collins has been fighting the demon creatures that have invaded her planet and killed the ones she loves. She will do anything to keep her best friend, Jace, safe. While on routine patrol, she has a run in with the legendary Horseman known as War. Kellan, the Horseman, was charged with disposing of Demetria to keep the balance. Once he realizes she is human, he has nothing but unanswered questions. As they both hunt for those answers, they grow closer. Will they be able to restore the balance before the ultimate destruction of the planet?

I loved the premise of this book. Angels, demons, Horsemen! It had vibes similar to The Mortal Instruments & Angels’ Blood, both of which I find to be very interesting worlds. I liked our FMC, even though at times she felt very “not like other girls”. In fact she basically says this verbatim once. I LOVED Kellan though. I wanted to know so much more about him.

For the negatives, I felt that the world building was very flimsy. There is not a lot of explanation of the Ascension, the event where the demons invaded. I don’t know what’s going on in the world outside of Demetria & Jace’s community. I enjoyed the romance, but it felt very rushed. For an enemies to lovers it felt very instalove.

The book ends on a pretty big cliffhanger and I think I am interested in continuing further.

Slow Burn
Forbidden Love
Soft only for her
Apocalyptic setting
Demons, Angels, Four Horsemen
Walking Dead/Supernatural Vibes

I really enjoyed this book!! I finished it super quick because I could not put it down. It had the same intense, post-apocalyptic feel as The Walking Dead, but with the added twist of demons and angels.

I’m a sucker for a strong, badass FMC and that’s exactly what Demitria is. She is full of feminine rage and I loved it!

Kellan was 🔥. I also love it when the MMC is tough but has a soft spot ONLY for the FMC and would do anything for her.

As far as spice, I would consider this to be a 1, maybe a 2- and there’s nothing wrong with that. I have a feeling that might increase as the series progresses, but in book 1, it’s more about tension and resisting their attraction.

At first, I was really confused about Jace. I didn’t know if he was a possible love interest or just her best friend. But I think their closeness comes from the shared trauma they experienced as kids. Witnessing something so intense bonded them, and they’ve been together ever since.

I honestly wasn’t expecting that ending. I can tell there’s more to come in the second book, especially since one of the fallen angels was just acting too strange around Demitria for it not to mean something. I can’t wait for book 2 because that cliffhanger.. 🫠

Mythic Fantasy

Featuring creatures and angels of legend and myths, Blood & War delivers an action packed romantasy fit for those who enjoyed books such as Laura Thalassa’s Four Horseman series or even Kerri Maniscalco’s Kingdom of the Wicked.

The one drawback to this novel when reading it was the beginning took quite sometime to catch my attention. The pace didn’t pick up until roughly 35% into reading. Once I was drawn in I was hooked. I truly am a sucker for the morally grey men. Kellen had my heart almost at first mention of his character. The end of the book had me in a chokehold and I need book two immediately.

For ten years, Demitria Collins has fought to protect her last loved one from a world overrun by demons. When a chance encounter with Kellan, one of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, upends everything, they’re forced into an uneasy alliance. Kellan, sent to restore balance on Earth, soon questions his mission and the council that sent him. "Blood and War" is an adult fantasy romance that follows Demitria Collins, who is determined to protect her people, especially Jace, with whom she shares a close bond. As they strive to safeguard their community from demon attacks, Demitria senses that they are the next target. Unexpectedly, she meets Kellan, one of the four horsemen of the Apocalypse, also known as War. Despite the complexities of their situation, their undeniable attraction complicates matters. Their beautiful and unshakable chemistry develops amidst the ongoing war, and they cannot deny their feelings for each other.

What I liked about Blood and War:
I loved the writing style
There was a lot of action
I liked the bond between Demitria and Jace.
My favorite characters were Demitria, Jace, and Kellan.
The pace of the story was good.
The book cover is beautiful and intriguing.

Overall, I enjoyed this book. However, I found the beginning, especially the first chapter, a bit slow. Once I got to chapter two, I was hooked. I really enjoyed how Kellan and Demitria's feelings developed for each other and how "Blood and War" was written. The end of the story broke my heart, but I won't spoil it for you. You'll have to read it for yourself to see.

I’m wishing for book two. I hope my wish comes true.

“Loyalty and love can ruin you. But hope is the deadliest of all.”

This post-apocalyptic story pulled me in from the start. Demetria is one of few survivors of the Ascension. She and her childhood friend, Jace, who lost both their parents to the Ascension, have managed to salvage an existence within a small hidden outpost with several other survivors.
As attacks on humans increase, Demetria forgets the most important rule Jace taught her, “Never let your guard down, no matter how safe you think you are. Do so, and you die.”

When that mistake leads her into the hands of a dangerous enemy sent to exterminate her, she realizes he is actually “a horseman of the Apocalypse, and she was in so much trouble.”

With demons, angels, archangels and the four horseman as part of this adventure, the story keeps you on the edge of your seat and eagerly wanting to find out what happens next. The slow burn romance keeps the tension taunt while weaving a tale of forbidden love.

I loved this book and cannot wait to read what happens next to Demetria, Kellan, Jace and the human race.
Note that this book does end on a cliffhanger. 4.5 Stars

I was lucky to read this as an eARC! Big thanks to the author Belle Walker for letting me read it early.

The book has an intriguing storyline surrounding a war between demons and angels as they fight for control over humanity & what’s left of Earth. Deceptions and questions arise as the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse are sent to kill a human for the sake of balance between realms. Kellan starts out as a heartless Horsemen but all that changes once he meets our feisty heroine Demitria. I love a FMC who’s not afraid to spill a little blood. When Kellan saves Demitria instead of killing her as he was sent to do, it sets a series of events in motion that pairs the two together as they search for answers.

It was a nice change of pace for the typically fae saturated fantasy genre. It’s a slow burn for most of the book and then really ramps up towards the end. However, I feel like some important details were left out or not explained throughly. Like the chemistry between Demitria and her bestie Jace, and whether there were/are feelings between them.

It does end of a major cliffhanger. Overall I can’t wait to see the finished product and see what comes next!

The story follows Demitria in a post-apocalyptic world where Demons have ravaged the world as we know it. After an encounter with Kellan, one of the four horsemen of the Apocalypse, she sets out on a quest to find the truth whilst her and Kellans' feelings grow for each other, even though this could have deadly consequences for them both.

So I loved the premise of this book and it certainly didn't disappoint. I loved Demitria, I loved her grit and passion. She has suffered terribly tragedy but still gets up and fights, still protects the ones she loves and still remains kind and compassionate. Obviously, I loved Kellan, and I loved his and Demitrias build up, it made the slow burn so much sweeter.

I really love Belle Walkers writing style, I found myself totally drawn into the book, invested in the characters, feeling their emotions, and also their heartbreak.

I finished the book with my jaw on the floor, I could believe it was left like that, I was sobbing and needed to know what happens next. There are also so many questions left unanswered, and that is really exciting for book 2!

Blood & War is released on 15th October, so go and get it added to your TBR.

I was so excited to get my hands on this and jumped right into it! The story is really unique and in the beginning I was getting the walking dead but add in angels and demons and hello sexy horseman!

Kellan gives me Dean vibes from supernatural! I don’t see anyone not wanting their own sexy horseman for themselves after reading this.

The start was slower for me but it picked up and I was wanting to know where the story would take us and how the relationship with Demitria and Kellan would develop.

I was wondering if we would get a love triangle with Jace and kinda still am… but maybe not and I’m okay if we don’t. Their friendship is beautiful enough.

I wanted more spice sooner on but I think with how the last 20% went we will get more in book two and I want it!

After that ending I’m excited to see how book two plays out and can’t wait to read it!

If you like:
-forced proximity
-angels and demons
-apocalypse world
-touch her and die vibes
-slow burn
-forbidden love
You’ll enjoy this read!

Belle you really knocked it out of the park with this DEBUT! ⚔️🥹 From the moment I started this book, I could not set it down. The author did such an amazing job world building and writing these amazing characters that I found myself loving all of them. Trust me when I say you need to add this as your next read in October. 🖤

We start out meeting our fierce, sarcastic stabby FMC Demitria who will do anything for the people she cares about.
And then there is Kellan, our morally gray MMC who will stop at nothing to destroy anything that gets in his way (and who is secretly a softie for a certain stabby FMC 🥹)

The slow burn, the tension, the push and pulling -
Demitria and Kellan have my whole heart, and after that ENDING. I already need the next book now… 🥹

🖤 if you like:
-slow burn
-touch her / die vibes
-forced proximity
-enemies to lovers
-demons / angels / four horsemen
-dark romance / fantasy
-stabby FMC
-morally grey MMC

(So blessed to have received this book as an eARC 🖤)

I DNF about 50% into this book. I really wanted to like it, the plot was captivating but the writing wasn’t there for me.

The Horsemen, demon, angel plot line was interesting which kept me reading. But in the end, the writing lacked details. It was super repetitive. It felt like the author was trying to reach a specific word count, which was why we saw a lot of repetition in the book. I also found the world building to be confusing. I know some questions would have been answered if I kept reading but the beginning world building was still confusing. We get no explanation as to why the Angels came and destroyed Earth. It was explained that the Angel was mad and that’s about it. Again, I know I’d get more answers if I kept reading but we needed more from the beginning!

Occasionally sentences weren’t finished, missing words and punctuation. For me, it didn’t flow and was difficult to read and keep up.

I normally wouldn’t leave a review to a book I DNF but I relieved a copy as an ARC so I wanted to leave an honest review.

☆forbidden love
☆"enemies"-to-lovers
☆found family
☆Mad Max vibes
☆angel/demon mythos

For a debut novel, I think this was a good start to a series! Blood & War was also a much welcome break from the typical fae romantasy. This story deals with a post-apocalyptic Earth after demons and angels lay waste to it. Demitria (our fmc) is a very "action now talk later" kind of person, but that's due to her past trauma, and it works for her. The first part of the story gave me hardcore Mad Max vibes, and I was HERE for it. Fingers crossed that we get more of those vibes in the sequel 🤞 because I'd love to explore that aspect of this new Earth.

I felt like the novel had some slow or awkward parts where I think it could have either been cut or expanded, but overall, this was a fun read! The finale leaves me with a lot of questions, and I'm hopeful for book 2 as the author grows more into her voice.

Demetria & Kellan

-Enemies to Lovers
-Slow Burn
-Forced Prox
-Dystopian/Apocalyptic
-Angels and Demons

Let me preface by saying I am not normally a slow burn girly, I like to jump right into the action! 😂 However, even though I would say this is a slow burn I felt engaged with the characters throughout the book. There was plenty of action right from the beginning when you first meet Demetria, the feisty take no BS MFC, and then when we get introduced to Kellan, one of The Horseman of the Apocalypse War, you have this angsty pull between the two that keeps you waiting to see if they will finally come together.

Their spit fire attitudes towards each other through out the book kept me cackling, but when they stop fighting each other and really dig into those “touch her and die” vibes??? Yes ma’am! I would say this book is maybe a 1 on the spice chart because their story is truly just beginning.

I simply cannot wait to see where book two takes us! 💛

I really enjoyed reading this book - it's the author's debut novel and it's always special to be able to read and celebrate new authors!

So the premise for this story is a post-apocalyptic version of our modern world with a spin on the four horsemen, along with demons and angels. It's cool and such a unique take!

I'm a vibe reader, and the vibes were strong in this book. I found it hard to put down, and kept thinking about it when I wasn't reading it.

This is a master class in enemies-to-lovers. Our two leads haaaaaaate eachother. It takes time for them to grow close and it feels so right when it does!

It slows down a bit in the middle and near the end; this is very much a set-up book for the next one. Is it perfect? No. But it was able to capture my attention and I genuinely enjoyed it despite any flaws. The author has shown her potential and I definitely think book 2 is going to be amazing!

I'd give it ⭐️⭐️⭐️.5 stars.

3.75 (rounded up)I think the story concept is great and very intriguing with the demons/angels/horsemen and I'm interested in learning more. I think this story has a lot of potential and is promising. I did have some issues with this first book, first being it felt slow to me. Action scenes were very short. The majority of the book was traveling to a particular place, but something would derail the group, and they would go back just to head to point A again (this happens 3 times at least). I feel like I have more questions than answers. We don't really get many answers in this book. It's possible this book was more to set up the other books.

"Balance, Horsemen. Killing me throws the balance."
"F*ck the balance."

I did receive this as an advanced reader copy. Thank you to the author. My thoughts are entirely my own.

3⭐ 2 ❤️ .5🌶️

Huge thank you to The Nerd Fam for the gifted ARC! I was so interested in reading this story. It was a very interesting and new take on the Four Horseman of the Apocalypse, and how Demons and Angels view humanity.

Though I was excited to read this, it did fall a little flat for me. I feel like there were a lot of plot holes and at times the timeline was difficult for me to follow. I didn't really feel any strong connection to either of the main characters, they also didn't really have much chemistry or connection in my opinion. I just really didn't feel it at all.

There was many parts of the story that I truly enjoyed and was really interested in. The action and the stakes were very high at some points in the book, but I feel like it was resolved too fast or just kind of fizzled.

Overall I did have an alright time while reading and did really enjoy parts of it.

Blood and War is set in an apocalyptic world where demons hunt humans and angels are also fighting the demons for control. Our FMC is trying to protect her small community and her childhood best friend when she encounters one of the horsemen of the apocalypse.

I thought the premise of the book was really interesting, but parts of the book were a bit slow and it sometimes felt like the MMC and FMC were just traveling from place to place. I really liked the inclusion of the other horse men (one of which is a woman!) and I liked learning about the world in which the horsemen are originally from. I’d love to learn more about that world and the other horsemen in future books.

I also enjoy the romance and banter between our FMC and MMC, and the great “touch her and die” vibes once they realize their feelings for each other!

Thank you to The Nerd Fam for the eARC!

When I first started reading I new I would be hooked. The war between the angels and demons basically destroyed our planet and the humans are left with basically nothing. It was gritty and kind of post apocalyptic feeling and I was about it. Things got dark quickly, our FMC Demitria GOES THROUGH IT! I think she is now one of my favorite bada$$ FMCs now!

The pull between Demitria and Kellan is so addictive to watch unfold. It really is a true enemies to lovers (no spoilers but it’s not just a dislike to lovers)

I really love the Angel vs Demons/ Four Horsemen lore re-imagining. I like what the author does for her own spin.

The ending wrecked me. Like I was a mess when I finished this book. I loved it, don’t get me wrong, but wow I did not see it coming and I have no idea where we go from here!

This book definitely kept me on my toes and I am left wanting more of the story and more questions answered! Can’t wait for book 2!
