From working on college campuses, to sharing the Gospel behind the Iron Curtain as a missionary, traveling around the United States, Canada, Europe, the Middle East, Asia, and Australia to speak on discipleship, Sally Clarkson has tenaciously sought after God's kingdom, and has used her ministry to encourage others to do the same. From her best-selling books such as Own Your Life, Desperate (with Sarah Mae), and her latest, The Lifegiving Home, Sally has shared from her heart and home about the value of motherhood and the potential for home to cultivate life, love, and faith. In 1995, She and her husband Clay founded Whole Heart Ministries, which has encouraged thousands of families around the world in discipling their children
This book outlines the SOAP method--scripture, observation, application, and prayer. This is a simple process for busy women to study God's word. The book begins with the assurance of God's love for us, it extends into why we need to love God, and it concludes with how to extend that love to others. I started this book at the end of a busy school year. I picked it back up again over the Christmas holiday. It helped me keep touch in my spiritual life when life became hectic.
The point of this study is excellent. No one can hear too often that God loves them. I enjoyed the portions where they shared stories from their lives and encouraged the reader. It felt like you were talking with the different authors, not just reading their words.
My main problem was that it wasn't a proper Bible study. The verses appeared to have been chosen by opening a concordance and going through looking for all the ones that mentioned a specific word, regardless of context, just to prove their point of the week. Also, there was little instruction within the book as far as what the verses were to mean. It was up to me to decide what they mean to me, not what they mean in context of Scripture. That's a huge no-no and I can think of a few professors of mine from Bible college that would have lost their minds if they had looked through this book.
These ladies mean well and I appreciate their heart and the love they obviously feel for the women they are ministering to, but this study is too simplistic. I'm all for simple, but not at the expense of understanding God's Word the way He had it ages ago.
I just finished this 8 week book/Bible study and have really enjoyed it. The book includes journal pages along the way, making it easy to open up with a cup of coffee in the morning. It's one of those books that found me when I needed it and was a welcomed read.
Angela and Sally write a heartfelt book about the love of God. Their honesty and openness about their own personal struggles makes this book easy to relate to. As you journey through the Word of God to learn about how much God loves us and how to show His love to others, you will be moved. This book is also an 8 week Bible Study with SOAP journal pages right in the book. I absolutely loved this book and study. It helped me realize more fully how much God truly loves me and that He doesn't want me to be anything more than me. A great great study! It really just hammers home the 2 important things: no matter what, we are loved...and because of that we should and can love all others. I did this study with a friend I've known for over 10 years and it took our relationship about 10 levels deeper which has been an incredible blessing. I think this is a study I need to do a least once every year or two as a great reminder of the basic point of it all!
This book was a great study into the love of God. This was my first SOAP study and I hope to continue on studying this way. If you write things down, your brain thinks it is important and it begins to remember what you wrote. We should learn verses daily and immerse ourselves in God's word. Knowing we are loved is a very big step in your walk with Christ.
This book has 8 devotionals that go along with 8 weeks worth of Bible Study. I love all the "Good Morning Girls" studies, but I hesitated to buy this book because I thought the topic of God's love might be "too basic,"but boy was I wrong! This has been a refreshing read and more than just a good reminder of how deep God's love is.
Clearly I didn't do this according to the 8-week plan in the book, mostly because I needed the meat of the book immediately. It was a good reminder of things I had grown up with, but not paid a lot of attention to when I was younger, and that life has slowly eaten away over the years. Lots of good stuff in there that I'll be meditating on for a long time to come.
Great book with a GMG Bible study! There were some really insightful things...a couple gems! Certainly worth the read, but I'm sure it's best in a group setting.
Excellent study for anyone who lives and breaths. Refreshing reminders that even in the dark places, SOMEONE loves you. God loves you. God created you. God has a plan for you!
