Throw in his true love, Corentin Devereaux, a huntsman descended from child-eating witches, and Taylor’s younger brother, Atticus—this generation’s Snow White—who tried to kill him. That didn’t go so hot.

For two years, Taylor and Corentin live their Happily Ever After. But Corentin is cursed to lose his memory every seven days, including his life with Taylor—a painful reminder that he can’t provide for the man he loves. Taylor insists Corentin has the strength to succeed, and when Taylor discovers a way to break the curse, he is more than willing to pay the cost.

When an enchanted blizzard devastates Corentin’s hometown of New Orleans, Taylor is convinced Atticus is to blame and grows desperate to find him amid the Big Easy turned frozen wasteland. Lex Chase once heard Stephen King say in a commercial, “We’re all going to die, I’m just trying to make it a little more interesting.” Now, she’s on a mission to make the world a hell of a lot more interesting.

Weaving tales of cinematic, sweeping adventure—and depending on how she feels that day—Lex sprinkles in high-speed chases, shower scenes, and more explosions than a Hollywood blockbuster. Her pride is in telling stories of men who kiss as much as they kick ass. If you’re going to march into the depths of hell, it better be beside the one you love.

Lex is a pop culture diva, her DVR is constantly backlogged, she has intense emotions about Hannibal’s Hannigram, and unapologetically loved the ending of Lost. She wouldn’t last five minutes without technology in the event of the apocalypse and has nightmares about refusing to leave her cats behind.

I would like to say that this sequel to Americana Fairy Tale delivered on all the goods, but unfortunately, it fell a bit short.

What this did accomplish though was continuing a fascinating unique world where reincarnated versions of various fairy tale characters we all know and love (or love to hate) exist, and each has a predestined fate to overcome or succumb to.

Corentin and Taylor have already saved humankind once, and they just want to live their lives anonymously with no Enchant interference. Thing is, when you’re a cursed Huntsman who loses his memory every 7 days and a princess who can’t harness the powerful dragon magic of Sleeping Beauty, one is going to inevitably have some issues when living a self imposed bubble of exile, because ignoring a problem never ever erases it.

And boy do these two have some problems. There’s Taylor’s “Snow White” brother Atticus, who’s crazy and missing. There’s the evil witch Idi, who’s bound to make a reincarnated appearance at any moment to wreak more havoc. Don’t forget Corentin’s memory issues and feelings of low self worth and Taylor’s inability to communicate or control his magic. Harsh awful truths are just chomping at the bit to be revealed and once set free, will test both to their limits where nothing will be the same again.

This has a lot of potential, and maybe the final book will be the end all be all, but beware a huge lack of explanation, a dark twisted exploration into legend and lore, and plenty of uncomfortable violence and off putting smexy.

I’ve come this far and I’m going to read the conclusion, but my high hopes and expectations might be just that - a fairy tale - and I’m worried they’re not going to come true.

Set in a quirky, modern day, fairy tale infused world, filled with magical beings called enchants, where princesses can be male and huntsmen can be their one true love, this imaginative sequel follows princess Taylor and Huntsmen Corentin in the continuation of their unexpected and complex love story.

There's no easy storybook-ending happily-ever-after for these two... yet. Here, they continue to deal with the ramifications of Corentin’s seven-day memory erasure curse and Taylor’s ever-growing powers as the reincarnation of princess Sleeping Beauty (and the temperamental dragon he barely contains within).

Darker and angstier, this sequel takes some unexpected twists and turns for Taylor and Corentin, as they once again get swept up in a mission to find and stop Taylor’s deranged and dangerous brother Atticus - who is the reincarnation of one very misinterpreted princess Snow White and seems hellbent on destroying the world and all enchants that stand in his way.

This series is quite complex in all its moving parts, and although I appreciate the grandeur of the story and the inspired way the author has reimagined various elements of classic fairy tale characters and their legacies, I still find myself feeling a bit overwhelmed by it all.

For me, there is something a little bit off with the execution of the story, and even at times the characters themselves. I like the ideas behind it all, but I find myself with more questions than answers a lot of the time, and that’s after the answers have technically been given.

However, I’m engaged enough to follow through and read the entire trilogy to completion, I’m just hoping to find a bit more clarity and satisfaction in the final story.

“Look. Enchant history is not what a cartoon mouse drawn by some advertising genius would have you believe. It’s messy. It’s twisted. And it’s not all that beautiful or magical. There is no f*cking ‘wishing upon a star’ shit.” Corentin Devereaux, Huntsman

The above quote is from the first book in this fantastic series, but it very accurately describes the “feel” of these books. Yes, there is magic and there are princesses, but just like the entire fairy tale world has been modernized and moved into an alternate version of today’s reality, so have the villains. And the darker turn the plot took at the end of book one continues in this second volume. Taylor and Corentin may have decided to retire from the business of saving the world and are pretending to be mundanes, living the quiet life, but Fate, the powers that be, and the Storyteller seem to have other ideas. A few chapters into the second installment there was more than one hint about major new trouble brewing, and a few pages later the sh*t hit the fan, and another action-packed adventure took my breath away.

Taylor may have figured out which princess he is – and if you have not read book one and don’t want to see any spoilers for that part of the trilogy, stop reading HERE – but things are not exactly what he expected. Sleeping Beauty, or so he thinks, is a useless princess, but I totally disagree with that assessment. Some of his magic is cool, he has a hidden part of his heritage that comes in pretty handy as well, and his deep love of Corentin may just be what they all need to save the Enchants from extinction and the mundanes from more than one major catastrophe.

Corentin faces his own set of challenges. He still forgets everything he ever knew once a week and has to start from scratch over and over again. His diary helps him remember, as does Taylor, but he can’t be the man he wants to be for Taylor while the curse destroys all they have every seven days. His past could be coming to haunt him – and it does – and he wouldn’t even know what the problem is. The real question for him is whether he can accept the price Taylor is willing to pay to save him…

If you think you’re ready for the second part of this exciting trilogy, including a secret organization, enchanted blizzards, and betrayal at almost every level, if you want to know what happens next in the epic battle between good and evil in the world of the Enchants, and if you’re looking for a read that is creative, tension-filled, surprising, and deeply emotional, then you will probably like this novel as much as I do. It’s a worthy successor to ‘Americana Fairy Tale’ in every way – and nicely sets the stage for the final volume of the trilogy. I can’t wait!

4.5 Stars - Bayou Fairy Tale finds us two years after the defeat of Idi and the incarceration of Atticus in a mental facility. On the surface, things seem to be going well, but we soon see that all is not a perfect as desired.

I loved the story and the setting, but must talk about what annoyed the heck out of me first, just to get it out of the way. Taylor and Corentin DO NOT TALK. They do not talk about what is going on with each other, they hide secrets and both feel they are not worthy of the other. There are some major self-esteem issues going on, as well as the SECRECY! This does not make for a pleasant home life for either of them. It is one of my biggest pet peeves when people decide they know best and act without consulting their partner, especially by hiding truths.

Now that that is out of the way… You’ll see I still rated the book 4.5 Stars out of 5. Why? Because the rest of the story is vivid, compelling, and unique. I loved Idea and the concept behind it. I loved how even bleak and desolate frozen New Orleans was depicted in such rich atmosphere. I could see the ice shrouded streets and the life that lay beneath.

I loved Ringo and Honeysuckle as the sidekicks. I also appreciated the other story book characters that were introduced. Even with Taylor and Corentin’s problems, I still adored both of them.

The book ends on very shaky ground. It isn’t really even a HFN, but there is hope and a burning desire to read book 3!

This book was a really good addition to this series! This book can not be read as a stand alone because Taylor and Corentin are the couple in the first book, so you must read that one first or you will be lost.
You get more of Taylor who just happens to be sleeping beauty but also happens to be a man. But lets not forget that he is also a dragon too.
Then there was Corentin who is a huntsman/ witch who can not remember anything after a certain amount of days. So he must restart by reading his journals to find out who he is due to a curse. I have to say I loved his character because there is just something about the brooding bad boy who is trying to be good.
You get more action in this book while they try to stop Atticus Taylor's brother who is also Snow White who is very evil. You see a lot of the same characters from the first book while meeting new characters like the Queen of Hearts.
I will be honest and say there were parts of this book that really dragged for me a little bit. But I really loved what this author did with this story and the twist on the fairy tales. I also really liked how this author wrote these characters. There were some you love and some that were so evil that you were not a fan of.

All together I really liked this book!
I would recommend this book!
I received this book free in exchange for an honest review from Inked Rainbow Reads.

This book was no unenjoyable 'hump' book of a trilogy. This was an amping up of everything to come and leaves you on edge as it ends possibly worse than better.

Taylor and Corentin have been making a go at being normal for the past two years. They have normal jobs in a normal town with normal people. But every seven days, Taylor throws Corentin his birthday party as he wakes up with no memory. And for those seven days they have their relationship again, until it all goes away again, with no sign of stopping in sight. While Taylor knew what he was signing up for, Corentin can't help but think that this will get too much, that everything will come to an end sometime because of the useless burden his curse makes him. Meanwhile, Taylor is working on his own struggles. His magic is awake and so is he- all the time. Struggling to get through, Taylor still worries about his brother locked away in a mental institution, while hating himself for sometimes wishing Atticus was dead. Their seven days can be bad or good, but it seems that the bad ones are popping up more often.

When tragedy strikes in New Orleans, Taylor is confident it has to be Atticus. However, there are other games being played and people have been trying to get Corentin and Taylor back in the game, with a city destroying event seeming to be the perfect lure. Going to New Orleans brings up more questions and concerns than answers, and it brings out sides of Taylor and Corentin that they've tried to keep hidden. The thing is, as much as it drives them apart, you can also see it bringing them together in ways. The two were never built for a normal life, and being thrust back into the fairy tale they have to find each other and where they fit. It makes them more honest than they have been in a while, and it does serve to bring up any fears or insecurities. Brought to light they can work on these, but it is by no means necessary. In fact, by the end, some things are still pretty screwed up, and it is going to take a lot of hard work to get to any sort of Happily Ever After for the Storytellers.

Two years have passed since the events in book one and Taylor and Corentin are back with more tortured fairy tales. Corentin's memory is cursed to become a blank slate every seven days. Except he somehow retains the ability to read and that's a good thing and better that he keeps a journal and photo albums so he can find out about himself.

Taylor, Princess Sleeping Beauty's sense of humor is definitely on display, while Coretin sleeps, Taylor binds him to the bed with pink feather boas! The honeymoon's over and it's become marriage. (Would you please put the clothes in the hamper?!? Aargh, wet towels on the floor, again! etc.) This princess and his prince make time for romance because there's plenty.

The loving duo take a trip to New Orleans, believing the answer to breaking the curse lies there and are caught in an enchanted snowstorm which makes one wonder if Atticus, Princess Snow White is up to his old tricks again. Different fairy-tales are brought out to fracture, such as, Alice in Wonderland, Rapunzel, Peter Pan and others.

Following in the format footsteps of book one, this outing hurries up to wait, giving it a stop and go quality which frustrated this reader. It also retained the hilarity. However, it's not advisable to read this installment without having read book one. There are many characters, references and call-backs that a new to the series reader would not understand.

A Joyfully Jay review.

4.75 stars

Bayou Fairy Tale is the second book in Lex Chase’s Fairy Tales of the Open Road series. I loved the continuation of Taylor and Corentin’s story. This one even brings new twisted fairy tales into play—Rapunzel, Hansel and Gretel, Peter Pan, and even Frozen. The mind of this author astounds me every time with loads of creativity, humor, and excitement.

What I like best about Taylor and Corentin’s relationship is that even after they’ve been together for two years, there are still things they are working through—jealousies, secrets, curses. Their relationship is far from perfect, but it’s also wonderful. The love between the two unlikely lovers is sweet and sexy and fun. I can see their relationship grow by leaps and bounds, not only between the time of this book and the last, but also as this story continues. They have real world relationship woes — to get married or not, what’s for dinner and who’s cooking. I absolutely adore how Chase sprinkles this abundantly magical world with normal stresses.

2016 Rainbow Awards Honorable Mention: Bayou Fairy Tale by Lex Chase
This book was such a joy to read with its wonderful cast of characters and meticulous world building. The fairytale characters we know and love have been given so much more depth with backstories of their own that extend way beyond the simple tales I grew up with as a child. Mix with a well crafted plot peppered with both humour and darkness and you have an absolute gem of a book.
