36 books143 followersTom is the author and draws the original sketches for all the Stick Dog stories. He lives in Chicago with his wife, daughter and son. They also have a dog named Shadow. Tom did not want to name the dog Shadow. He wanted to name him ‘Put Your Shirt On.’ It’s a long story. Sometimes when Tom is visiting schools, he shares the story.
Tom’s first jobs out of college were in politics. He worked for U.S. Senator John Glenn and as the Chief Speechwriter for the Governor of Ohio. He has also worked in marketing and advertising. He likes writing books for kids a lot more than writing speeches and other things for grown-ups. He thinks kids are way smarter than grown-ups.
He LOVES writing the Stick Dog adventures.

I enjoyed book 1 of the Stick Cat series by Tom Watson more than I expected to. It's one of those "pleasant surprises" that need to happen more often in life. "A Tail of Two Kitties" teaches empathy, hilarity, safety, patience, prudence, and persistence, all within the confines of the story. The book doesn't push these qualities overtly; it conveys them through the Stick Cat's wonderful personality, his thoughts, and his interactions with Emily (the other kitty) and Mr. Music. As far as children's books go, this one is way up there. My two girls, ages 10 and 7, love it and give it five stars ("or even a thousand and seventeen" according to my youngest). I'm giving it five stars too.

This is a cute kid's book about two cats who "save the day." Overall, it's entertaining. However, I have some issues with the girl cat being portrayed as the silly, stupid, self-centered, slightly fat one while the boy cat is the smart, thoughtful one.

The best selling point for these books is the fact that there really isn't a lot of solid literature out there for readers transitioning into chapter books. The unfortunate thing is that these books don't fit the mold of "quality" pieces of writing, but they do have the interest factor. These books are perfect for kids that are starting out in the realm of chapter books, but don't expect them to be full of life changing lessons. I mean this book focuses on a cat that gets her butt stuck in a hole and adventure involving a man with his arms stuck in a piano. No deep life lesson and there was an unusual amount of time spent without a problem. I gave stick dog a three star rating and this book is on par with that, but the deduction in a star comes from the fact that this book started out with a boy writing the story for a girl, but then ends without the story reverting back to those characters. What happens to them?
Pumped to meet this author when he comes to our school, I love that it will get kids reading, but these books don't have the content for any discussion. They are just purely for fun.

Stick Cat is a new series written by the same author that created Stick Dog. It’s a diary-style book with lots of illustrations scattered throughout. Written in a casual, conversational tone that kids love, this is a book that will tickle your kid’s funny bone. Kids that enjoyed Stick Dog will enjoy this book. It has similar silly adventures and sketchy illustrations.

They take naps, listen to music, and hunt treasures — until they realize that Mr. Music from the building across the alley is in trouble and needs their help.
The vocabulary in this book is simpler than in many other middle-grade novels. It’s another good book for advanced younger readers or older kids that need something less challenging. It’s a good segue from early chapter books into longer books. If your child is having a difficult time learning to love reading, give this book a try!

Oh boy, Edith is...special. And Stick Cat is quite possibly the most patient and tactful friend on the planet! A humorous read about a brave rescue that should appeal to reluctant readers with the large font and frequent illustrations. It reads much like a cartoon episode adventure.

* (FIC) 199 pages. I read two chapters/14 pages. It looks like the Wimpy Kid series style with lined page writing. Boring. Skip this one. This is the author of the Stick Dog series. I would probably skip that series, too. Not recommended.

Stick Cat and Edith get into a fun adventure. Edith is a little ditzy with a big mouth and Stick Cat is bright and quiet... much like humans. Both help a human who got caught in a piano.

Read this to my niece and nephew on our holiday at bedtime. Super cute and the kids really enjoyed the story - which we spread over a few nights. Love the two cats!

The Stick Cat series is very humorous and relatable, especially if you own or like cats. In A Tail of Two Kitties, the conversation between Stick Cat and his friend Edith is amusing, particularly due to Edith's tendency towards being air headed. Stick Cat and Edith help a human in distress and do so through crazy means. Edith likes to take responsibility for all the success that occurs, and Stick Cat lets her since it is easier than arguing with her. This book was fun to read aloud and the pictures are simple yet entertaining.

Good but the end is super anoyying
This book has a good plot and is very funny, but the end is super annoying. Why doesn't Stick Cat save Mr. Music? He acts like he does, but he doesn't. Edith does. She sits on the phone and accidentally dialed help. That part is also a bit inappropriate because when she sits on phone she's like, "MY BUTT IS TALKING!!! MY BUTT IS TALKING!!!" 😰😾 They put that in there for 4 year olds. Anyway, my point is great story, annoying ending. 😸😸😸😺😺😺😀

My daughter and I read this together. She loved it! Especially the part when Stick Cat and Edith get in Mrs. O’Mahoneys apron pocket to pull themselves across the clothesline! They wanted to try to save Mr. Music whose arms were stuck in a piano. Finally they get to Mr. Music, and Edith eventually saves the day by accidentally butt dialing a coworker of Mr. Music’s.

Stick Cat and his friend Edith want to relax in the window, but something horrible happens across the alley, and they must save the day.
I read this with my seven year old son. It was amusing at parts, but half of it was pretty boring. Stick Cat has great patience to deal with Edith's self-indulgent ways!

I know the is meant for kids, but it’s terrible. Such sexist stereotypes where the girl cat is ditzy, up herself and worried about her appearance, while the boy cat is smart and heroic. Totally not what you want kids learning. And it’s not even funny, just annoying!

Both boys gave this read 4 stars. They found it humorous but didn't like the pictures very much. I found the art work sweet and agree that the story was funny.

My 7 year old enjoyed this, but I thought it was so-so. The girl cat was annoyingly stupid and a know-it-all. Heavy on conversation and light on plot.
