When a young woman is found murdered on the property she used to own, her brother enlists Puck Schneider - the nosiest teenager in Arcadia Lake - to help him find out who killed her. It doesn't take Puck long to realize that he's getting way more than he bargained for, as he's drawn into a world of werewolves, monsters, and murder.
How do I even put words to how much I love his book? Not only is the plot complex and engaging, but the characters are incredibly diverse, serious issues like sexuality and mental health are explored respectfully, and Puck and Connor are honestly some of my favorite MCs of all time! This series is a treasure.
This is an interesting book that is part fantasy adventure and part detective story. Puck is a human caught up in a world of werewolves, trying to help dark and broody Conner track his sister's killer, and deal with all the monsters, no matter what their shape.
What I particularly like about this story is that it shows the emotional consequences of events. Puck goes through a traumatic experience and the story shows the aftermath of that trauma and his copy mechanisms - healthy and not so healthy. Even in a story about werewolves, that feels very real.
This has to have been one of the most engaging books I've read in long time. I'm a huge fan of fantasy in a modern setting and this book truly delivered. The characters are engaging and well-rounded, their virtues and flaws shine throughout the story and leave me wanting to read more about them and this world.
I really enjoyed this. The character choices and what they represented were awesome but their addition to the plot was even better. The moral dilemma and choices made were compelling. I look forward to reading the rest of the series.
Easy to read YA fantasy, but gives an actually realistic view of teenagers dealing with supernatural creatures without some stupid love story like Twilight. Fun, but also tense and deadly. Would definitely read a sequel. Like a cross between John Green and Anne Rice about werewolves.
A great first book in a series by a writer who takes the reader into the world of werewolves and murder. A great twist at the end of the book which sets up an interesting prospect for the second novel in this series. Puck is such a great character, one you are sure to fall in love with.
