The monsters of myth are real and she’s just discovered she's one of them.
Every instinct U.S. Marshal Morgan Jacobs has screams she’s dangerous. And all logic says she’s crazy. She couldn’t have killed that man by turning him to stone with her gaze. That’s impossible. Except she has no other explanation for what happened that night four months ago.
But now she’s caught in a game of cat and mouse against a powerful man determined to destroy her and must partner with two mysterious FBI agents in order to stop him. Except both men are too sexy for Morgan’s own good: the dark and brooding Alexander Gage, and the wicked bad boy Lachlin Kincade.
This boxed set includes the first three books in this action-packed dark urban fantasy series: Case #1: Written in Stone, Case #2: Heart of Stone, and Case #3: Escaped From Stone.

CASE #1: WRITTEN IN STONE The monsters of myth are real…
Every instinct U.S. Marshal Morgan Jacobs has screams she’s dangerous. And all logic says she’s crazy. She couldn’t have turned that man to stone with her gaze. That’s impossible. Except she has no other explanation for what she remembers about that night or how she got away from him four months ago. And when her friend is kidnapped, Morgan must partner with the mysterious FBI agent Alexander Gage and face the truth... monsters are real.
CASE #2: HEART OF STONE Some things are more dangerous than monsters.
Much to Morgan Jacobs’ relief, she isn’t crazy; the world is. Monsters of myth are real and she’s one of them. With only a tenuous hold on her new gorgon abilities and with some of those monsters—the Kin—trying to kill her, Morgan’s best bet is to move in with the mysterious Alexander Gage and his Kin team. Except she doesn’t know if she can trust him, or herself for that matter when he’s around. But when a young Kin woman is murdered with magic, Morgan must put aside her fear of her powers and face something more dangerous than just monsters: her emotions.
CASE #3: ESCAPED FROM STONE Sometimes the monster in the dark is real.
Still trying to figure out her place in a world where the monsters of myth are real, U.S. Marshal Morgan Jacobs finally has a reprise from the madness. A murderer has escaped from jail, and while he is Kin—one of the monsters—Morgan at least knows how to handle a fugitive hunt. And with her best friend and fellow Marshal Kate helping out, it feels like nothing has changed. But everything has changed. Chasing a real monster is much more dangerous than chasing a human one and ignoring the truth could be deadly.
C.I. Black has always lived in a world of imagination. When she’s not daydreaming, she puts her flights of fancy down on paper writing urban fantasy and paranormal romance books.
Yet another delightful find in the free e-book section of Kobo.
I was glad this was a set of the first three books in this series because once I started reading I did not want to put the book(books) down. I like how this book melds a detective crime feel with a fantasy twist. So far I really like the main character and found her very relatable. There are also a lot of undercurrents going on in this series with the other characters. Many back stories I do hope come about later in the series. If you like mystery books in the P.I./FBI genre set in modern day with a fantastical twist, guns and magic, then you should find this book series enjoyable. I know I look forward to finding out what else happens in this story.
A great start to the series. This collection contains the first three cases U.S. Deputy Marshal Morgan Jacobs finds herself involved in after learning she is the last living Gorgon. Monster and creatures of myth are real (and called Kin) and Morgan learns she is one of them. I enjoyed how Morgan deals with learning who she is and her new life. I liked her attitude and the way she handles all aspects of this new world. The Kin members of her new team are intriguing. Each installment/case is just over 100 pages and just the right length to feel complete without feeling like they are lacking in substance. I really enjoyed these and look forward to reading more about Morgan and her old and new friends.
She was losing her mind, she couldn’t trust herself or anyone else! What was happening to her, was she turning into a monster! Who could she trust? The characters are awesome, hot, and sexy, the monsters are horrendous, strong, angry, and unpredictable? Is she still one of the good guys are will she become one of the bad guys? Can she get control of her monster or will it control her! All three books are awesome! As she fights monsters, herself, and tries to be normal as possible! Can’t wait to see how it comes out!
This set includes the first three books (Written in Stone, Heart of Stone, and Escape From Stone) in the Medusa Files series. There is violence. These books should not be read as standalones and this set makes it easy to read the first three books. While the storyline was interesting, it was just average. Nothing bad but nothing new and exciting either. I'm not yet sure if I will read more of this series or not.
Being a U. S. Marshal was the job Morgan Jacobs love. Then one night, things went wrong on a case and she learned she was different. Very different. A Gorgon, without the snake hair at least. And some people want to help her, some to control her, and some to kill her. And she has no clue what she is, how it happened, or how to control it.
I love finding new authors. Especially new authors with wonderful stories full of mystery, action, adventure, and challenges. Add in backlogs and I'm all over it!
Interesting read, liked the stories but left too many questions. Don't like having to keep buying additional books. I thought buying a series meant no cliffhangers.
I read this part of the series as books 1,2and 3 were free
I can't say I am dying to read the next book but I can say it was different than any others I have read. Interesting yes but for me i could stop at book 3 and not feel i missed anything. Just saying !
In reading this series I was extremely glad that the flow was as smooth as butter. Great story telling but after reading as much as I did I needed more answers than were provided
The Medusa files has promise but I did find the first 3 stories to short with not enough background information.
I love the series premise there is a lot of supernatural which I really love and a great team pulled together on this special FBI task force but and yes there is a but the story was to quick in a lot of ways and I needed more background from the beginning not just on Morgans background but mostly on Morgans background but everyone on the team just saying we dont like talking about ourselves was a cop out seriously if you want a reader to fall in love with your series then make it so with no background given and very little training Morgan was rushed into situations that she was unprepared for the story would have read better if time had been taken to train her and give her some back ground on herself even if the story timeline was short they are supernaturals they could have trained all night.
I wanted to love everything about it because the synopsis had so much promise but I was so disappointed the stories were not longer and more in depth I wanted so much more, more details, more guts to the story and more character background to make them really come alive.
Lots of action, riveting suspense and slow-burning romance. Although each book can be read as a standalone, unanswered questions will draw you into the next book.
High action, fast paced, urban fantasy with a diverse range of supernatural characters. Warning though - these stories are 'serialised' so they are cliff hangers.
This series portrays a different view on your classical "monsters" of Greek myth. Some are displayed as good guys while others are displayed as evil. The first book started out a little slow for me, because the author covered the background and set the stage, but after that the series took off at an astounding rate. There were various situations that the team was called out on, which resulted in intense action with some making me smile and laugh.
Non stop action with a strong female lead. She does get her ass handed to her alot, but she is fighting mythical monsters and has just discovered her own powers so she's still really badass.
We start with Morgan having turned a bad guy into stone on her last mission. She has moved, changed phone number and distanced herself from friends and family. A man shows up at her door and says he wants her on his team. He is F.B.I. Jane Morgan is Deputy U.S. Marshal.
Book 2 finds Morgan reconnected with her friend Kate and learning how to control her powers. Also more involved with the F.B.I. team from the 1st book. They are taking on a new case.
Book 3 Morgan is being asked to either return to her Marshall's job or resign. Kate has a new partner and both the Marshall's and the F.B.I. teams are working together on a new case.
Downloaded this for free. What a great surprise. I was having 'Reading Fatigue' there just didn't seem to be any Books that could hold my interest long enough. Then this came along. Must say though that by the end of book 3 I had my fill. By this time it felt like the author just keeps drawing the characters out. Morgan Jacobs is so incredibly powerful she can't help but get beaten up all the time??? Who or what is Gage? Will they won't they ? And so on..... Won't be buying anymore of this series but did enjoy the first 3 Books
Morgan is an intelligent, unique character. She learns she's not just human and is extremely dangerous. Or at least, that's how she feels after turning her attacker to dust. With secrets and mystery, Morgan finds herself with a group of special "FBI" agents that deal with the Kin side of things. They're not telling her everything and she doesn't completely trust what they're selling, however, she doesn't have any better offers at the moment.
I liked this series of books very much and am looking forward to the next in series. If you are looking for a new contemporary paranormal with strong character development and fast moving plots, try this series.
The book was weird, wild and wonderful. There's every kind of sup imaginable in it and a few you wouldn't imagine. Hot guys, wild magic and a lot of action.
