He puts the hot...
Christian Watson, a former SAS officer and current BKI operator, never thought he would return to England after a terrible turn of events forced him to abandon his homeland. But now he's back on British soil where old enemies are determined to do him in. Fighting for his life is pretty much SOP for Christian. Doing it with the beautiful, bossy Emily Scott in tow is another matter entirely.

In hot pursuit.
Emily lost her coveted job at the CIA because of a colleague turned rogue, and now she has just one rule when it comes to men: they're for recreational purposes only. But when she and Christian are thrust into very close quarters while evading two mysterious men who want Christian dead, she can't help but question all her ideas about love and life lived on the edge. Battling the bad guys is hard enough, battling her feelings for Christian just might prove impossible.

Hot Pursuit takes off right after Fuel for Fire. BKI Operatives Christian Watson, Emily Scott, Colby “Ace” Ventura, Jamin “Angel” Agassi and civilian Rusty Parker had to flee the country after BKI’s last mission to capture the elusive underworld crime boss known as the Spider had gone wrong.

Christian a former SAS officer thought he would never return to his homeland not after the way things ended the last time he was in England. But circumstances has forced his hand and upon his return old enemies he didn’t even know about are determined to make him pay. Christian is no stranger to fighting for his life, but having the beautiful and bossy Emily along for the ride makes it very difficult for him to keep on denying the pull she has on him.

Since losing her job with the CIA Emily promised herself to never again mix business with pleasure. And because she loves her job as the office manager for BKI she refuses to acknowledge the real reason why she loves pushing sexy Christian’s buttons. But when she finds herself on the run with him, denying her feelings becomes impossible.

“Come then, Emily.” He dropped his voice so his words were a bare growl. “Let me show you why God made beautiful women and well-hung Englishmen.”

I ADORED Christian with his sexy British accent and all his tattoos and I loved how he was with Emily and how he wasn’t interested in anyone else since the moment he met her. He has a painful past and finally we found out what happened to him and why he wasn’t part of the SAS anymore.

When it came to him, she had discovered she liked playing with fire.

Emily is the kind of heroine I love, she’s so sassy and feisty and made me laugh so many times. She’s also very nosy and kind-hearted. She believes herself incapable of love which made her very determined to keep Christian at a distance.

“Love is about saying the words, making a pledge, and then sticking to it.”

I really loved this romance. Emily and Christian has been pushing each other’s buttons for a few books now and I loved their heated banter, how they loved annoying each other. Both thought their feelings weren’t reciprocated and it was a lot of fun seeing how they reacted once they realised it was. I really appreciated that there was no unnecessary angst in this one and Christian’s determination to break down Emily’s walls and have a future with her has definitely made him one of my favorite book-boyfriends ;-)

Julie Ann Walker knows how to write romantic suspense. The romance is always perfectly balanced by the suspense that keeps you captivated. The plot continues to thicken with BKI still trying to find out who the Spider really is and by the end of the book it looks like they have finally found a clue.

“My God, who are you?”
Angel turned to her, one corner of his mouth quirked. It was the Angel equivalent of an ear-to-ear smile. “I’m Batman.”

I really can’t wait to find out more about the mysterious Angel, a former Israeli Mossad agent who had gone extensive plastic surgery, had his vocal cords scoured and his fingerprints burned off. No one at BKI seems to know why he did all of this. Luckily his book is next and I’m so excited to find out more about him.

Ace and Rusty limited their flirting to flaying each other alive with their tongues any chance they got.

Then there is fellow BKI operative Colby “Ace” Ventura and Rusty Parker. The sparks between these two are so freaking hot but I have no idea how they are ever going to be together not with Ace’s painful past and Rusty refusing to come out of the closet….

Romantic suspense in one of my favorite genres and this is definitely one of my favorite RS series’. I love the bonds between all the BKI members, the sexy romances, hilarious banter and gripping suspense. A must read for all RS fans.

I've given this a D- at AAR - I really can't bring myself to round up to two stars :)

Hot Pursuit is the latest in Julie Ann Walker’s  Black Knights Inc . series which features a group of ex- special forces operatives who now work for a covert government defence firm set up by a former US President.  The book is billed as romantic suspense, but disappointingly, it’s neither romantic nor particularly suspenseful; the central characters are supposed to be in their early thirties and yet act like a pair of hormonal teenagers much of the time, and Ms. Walker has a tendency to talk directly to her audience through the heroine, which is odd and the exact opposite of endearing.

The plot is tissue-paper thin.  After a mission gone wrong, Christian Watson, together with two other members of BKI, their office manager, Emily Scott (who apparently tagged along to keep them out of trouble), and a former marine turned charter-boat captain are forced to hole up in a small cottage in Cornwall until they can safely get out of England and back to the US.  Their anonymity is shot to hell, however, when a bunch of reporters turn up on the doorstep trying to get to Christian, to get the story of what happened when he was captured towards the end of the war in Iraq.  The timing was politically sensitive and the mission to rescue him was messy;  Christian was blamed for the incident (although his identity was never divulged) and quietly left the SAS. He has spent the last few years living well under the radar, so someone must have discovered his identity and location and fed it to the media.  The question is, who?

Watching the news on TV not far away are Lawrence and Ben Michelson, brothers of the soldier killed when the mission to rescue Christian went pear-shaped.  Both are police officers, but Lawrence is a loose cannon – he has never forgiven the unknown SAS officer for his brother’s death and the later deaths of both their parents, and is out for revenge.  Lawrence and Ben make for the cottage hide-out, just in time to witness Christian and his team make their escape, and then follow them to Newquay airport, where a jet is waiting.

Following a violent confrontation during which the pilot is shot, Christian et al get away and end up making for an Elizabethan manor house that is owned by the National Trust. Christian spent a fair bit of time there as a boy and is sure they can break in and hide out for the night while they make arrangements for another flight to get them out. The book was already on shaky ground, but this was where it completely fell apart. They break into a 500-year-old house, and find rooms in which they can actually sit and lounge about on the furniture and in which Christian and Emily find a bed they use for energetic, loud sex. There’s a reason these things are normally roped off – they’re old and probably fragile. They’re definitely not to be used for hot monkey sex. And don’t get me started about the fact that Christian has to wash the sheets afterwards in the washing machine in the basement.

That’s just the start of a long line of things that took me out of this not-at-all-gripping story. The pacing leaves a lot to be desired, because a huge chunk in the middle of the book – my Kindle shows it’s about 40% of it – takes place at the house, and nothing much happens other than Christian and Emily getting it on, and two of the other team members who are also suffering from a huge dose of unrequited lust, yelling at each other most of the time.

Christian and Emily find time to talk to each other about their pasts; his growing up with parents who were alcoholics, while Emily’s parents and grandparents were serial monogamists with more than a dozen marriages between them, which has made her think there’s something in her genes that means she can’t fall in love. (Oh, for the love of Pete…)

Emily spends most of her time looking at or thinking about what’s in Christian’s trousers, and then telling herself that no, she mustn’t think of him that way because she can never have him. Every bloody page is filled with endless mental lusting which bored the hell out of me incredibly quickly. Their sexy, flirty banter is neither sexy nor flirty. They are supposed to have that whole ‘you-irritate-the-hell-out-of-me-but-I-fancy-you-like-nobody’s-business’ thing going on, but the author’s attempts at flirtatious humour are very wide of the mark and the couple sounds like a pair of kids who are trying to come up with clever insults, but don’t have the requisite vocabulary. Worse than all that, there is no romance in this book whatsoever. There is no relationship development or progression from not being in love to being in love. Christian and Emily start the book in lust with each other, everyone around them knows it, so really, the only thing that changes is that they decide to have sex. And to tell their friends about it.

And the language… oh, my god, the language is cringe-making. Do women of thirty really say things like “That kind of thinking was totally crazypants”, or “it was totally amazeballs” and actually MEAN it? Sure, I’ve said things like that, but only when I wanted to take the piss out of something. Or how about you look at a guy and think he’s “A breaker of hearts. A slayer of vaginas”. A slayer of vaginas?! What is this – Muffy the Vagina Slayer?! Or this – “How would she ever be able to look at him, talk to him, work with him knowing that he wanted to, in the parlance of their time, introduce his boy part to her girl part?” The parlance of whose time? Eight-year-olds in the school playground? I could find many more examples of such utterly dreadful phrases (there’s plenty of panty-melting and panty-slicking), but here’s a final doozy: “He did that humming thing and it hit her directly in the uterus.” Oh, good grief.

Still on the subject of language, I appreciate that Ms. Walker has tried to make Christian sound English, but his use of the word ‘fancy’ is grating and incorrect. We might say ‘I fancy him’ or ‘I fancy a bacon sandwich’ or ‘I fancy a coffee’, but we don’t use it as a substitute for ‘like’ in the way Christian does –“He assumed it was because she fancied keeping the people around her off-balance” or “What I fancy is for the woman to stay precisely where she is”. Plus when using the ‘f’ word to swear, we English usually pronounce it as ‘fucking’ not ‘fecking’. (And according to the Urban Dictionary, ‘fecking’ has a totally different meaning.)

For some readers, these will be minor points or perhaps will not register at all. But I mention them because I was taken out of the story on pretty much every single page, and given it’s a story that doesn’t have a lot going for it in the first place, that made it practically unreadable.

Hot Pursuit isn’t hot and there isn’t much pursuing going on. It gets a D for ‘Dreadful’.

Emily lost her job with the CIA because she had an entanglement with a fellow agent. She finally feels like she’s found a home at Black Knights Inc and will do whatever it takes to keep this new family.

Christian is a former SAS officer that is now running an op with firecracker Emily Scott. She is boss, demanding and just what he didn’t know he was looking for in a partner…

Christian Watson is everything you would imagine for the perfect alpha male. He’s strong, courageous and willing to put his life on the line for Emily.

Emily is insecure. Her parents were horrible role models and she felt the CIA was all she would have in her life that remand constant until she found BKI.

Simply addicting, the group at BKI is a family unit that draws the reader in an keeps them invested till the end.

He is used to living life on the edge, being part of a covert team called the Black Knights, Inc. What Christian hadn’t counted on was having to defend more than just his own life when his past comes back to haunt him on his own home soil.

Emily has vowed to never give her heart away, after all, with a past like hers, she knows it is a losing proposition, but she can’t help her feelings for the wickedly hot Christian, so different from her south Chicago attitude. The man is larger-than-life amazing and he knows what he wants, something he has never dreamed of having and it comes wrapped in the feisty, mouthy package that is Emily Scott.

As their chemistry boils over, hot enough to melt steel, Christian’s past could very well get his team killed, and there is no way anyone will get their hands on Emily, period. As dangerous as those who hunt Christian, Emily becomes like acid burning his very soul, because she just won’t give in and give him anything more than her body.

HOT PURSUIT by Julie Ann Walker is an erotic journey with a side of intrigue and suspense as an unlikely couple play cat and mouse with love.

Christian is “that” hero, hot, alpha and cocksure about life, except when it comes to Emily, but he willing to stick his neck out for something he never thought he could have. Emily is a little harder to know, to like or relate to. On the one hand, she wants what Christian is offering badly, but her denial is as weak as a kitten and her reliance on her past as an excuse, particularly after nearly dying gets a little annoying, I mean really shouldn’t she have realized what a gift life and love are?

Erotic, suspenseful and filled with characters that ooze alpha badassness, Julie Ann Walker certainly cannot be accused of going light on the sensual tension and heated passion!

Hot Pursuit is the 11th book in the Black Knight series and it still feels fresh and exciting as book 1. I’m impressed that Julie Ann Walker creates such flawed and charismatic characters that keep the reader engaged and keep coming back for more. Hot Pursuit picks up right after the last book and has 4 BKI operatives and 1 office manager holed up in a cottage in England waiting for their time to get back to the States. Things don’t go as planned and before you know it the press is on them, their escape is botched and now two unknown men are out to kill them.

Christian Watson is a former SAS officer and never expected to be back in England after he left under bad terms. It’s bad enough being back but to make matters worse he is confined to his uncle’s cottage with Emily Scott, the woman who is both irritating and desirable all in one. These two exchanged barbs with one another like it was foreplay. Christian would like nothing better than to pursue something with her but he knows he’s a bad bet. Better to keep things as is unless she deems otherwise. He had a horrible childhood and no one needs to deal with that.

Emily has her own reasons for not pursuing something more with Christian. She was burned bad by a past relationship at her old job and had to quit. In order to have some piece of mind she is never going to mix business with pleasure again. However she can’t help her attraction to Christian and that irritates the hell out of her. What better way to express it than at the man himself. She knows it isn’t reasonable but she doesn’t think he would find her attractive considering how gorgeous she finds him. She couldn’t be more wrong. Christian and Emily are a trip when they get together and the other men on the mission would love it if they would get together and get it over with and put everyone else out of their misery!

Hot Pursuit is a fast paced, action filled adventure that is very entertaining. Danger surrounds them throughout and no one will be safe until they are out of England. There is also a minor side storyline between Ace and Rusty that piqued my interest. I hope there will be more about them as they come to an understanding. From beginning to end the story kept my interest and seeing Christian wear down Emily was well worth it in the end. There is one last mission for BKI and I hope that Angel is one of the next in line to be written. If you are a fan of Rebecca Zanetti and Christy Reece, you will love this romantic suspense series by Julie Ann Walker.

The overarching plot involving Spider took on a whole new spin by the end of this story and it does promise for some exciting action in the next installment as the hunt for Spider takes on some speed. There are also two possible romance angles that could come to fruition as well. Sounds like some swoony times are ahead for this series! Hot Pursuit is definitely the type of story that all lovers of romance and suspense would fall head over heels for.

3.5 to 4 stars
Hot Pursuit begins right after Fuel for Fire left off. The newer members of BKI, Christian, Ace, and Angel, along with their office manager, Emily, and her friend, Rusty are still hiding out in not-so-jolly-old-England and trying to escape and make their way back to the States. But as usual, the best laid plans...it turns into one mess after another. New enemies. Media attention. Exposing of pasts. Traumatic incidents. Things seem to go wrong at every turn.

And there is also so much sexual tension and longing coming out in the form of antagonism and challenging behavior. Christian and Emily are still fussing and fighting And Ace and Rusty are sharing heated looks. Running on adrenaline with close quarters and contact only increase lust and longing.

They are in pursuit of a ruthless enemy while being pursued by new ones. And Christian's hottest pursuit is not only Emily's body, but her elusive heart. While Ace and Rusty struggle with understanding and the ac they are in opposite places in life, but have such chemistry and attraction. They tease, taunt, torture, tantalize, and sometimes take.

Emily is a strong-willed, nosy, smart, responsible, caring, and mouthy Chicago girl. She has been burned so does not want to have a relationship with any co-workers. Christian is a stuffy, sarcastic, sharp, and usually in control Brit. But there is a lot more to him than meets the eye. They put on these facades of being tough and unfeeling, but deep down they are feeling plenty. But when the chemistry gets to be too much to avoid, they think that they can just have a casual romp in the midst of chaos. Emily brings fun to Christian's life whether it be verbal sparring or physical engagements. And since she has always had to be responsible and in control, she does not mind giving up a bit of control to him when it counts. It is just supposed to be casual, but feelings are strong and terrifying. As the layers are peeled back, more understanding and vulnerability shows. And Christian is hoping that he can convince her that more is worth it because he knows what he wants. I loved him and found him to be a great swoonworthy hero. But Emily does not make anything easy on him. So there were some times I just wanted to shake sense into her.

And the usual calm, easy-going, charming, Ace is not longer the man breaking up fights because he keeps getting into them with the hot, brawny, Rusty. The are two men who are attracted to each other, but are on the opposites sides of the LGBT fight and cannot seem to find middle ground. Ace has been through so much and fought to be out. Rusty is still in the closet and is afraid to leave it. I loved that she gave us a M/M story line. I enjoy the genre anyway, but we also need some diversity here to be realistic. Just because this is a group of bad-a**es, does not mean that they would all be straight.

And that brings us to the enigmatic, Angel. He is a mysterious, former Mossad agent with a whole new identity. I imagine his story will be in the forefront of the next book. Due to the continuing story arc through Fuel for Fire, this one, and the fact that it is not quite resolved yet so should continue in Built for Speed, I recommend at least reading these three books together. (Although some of the characters were first introduced in Wild Ride.) These installments are all about the newer members of BKI. This one is told in multiple points of view giving us all access. It gives us some resolution for the main couple, but leaves another with issues but potential, an enemy still in the wind, and a tease for another story. So I hope Built for Speed wraps up some of this ongoing story line.

These characters are stubborn, strong, brave, thrive on challenges, and have each other's backs. They just have to translate that team philosophy to trust and belief in personal relationships as well and determine if the risk is worth the reward. I really enjoyed the sparring and dynamics between these characters. It added fun and sexual tension to the suspense and danger. And I love the camaraderie and bonds between the the team at BKI and their significant others. They are truly a self made family of strong men and women.

I’ll start by saying that I love Black Knights Inc. Each character is so finely crafted that I feel I’m a part of it all. Christian was no exception. I love his accent, humor and sexiness. Yumm. Emily was a good match for him, quick witted and strong willed; that made their romance nice and steamy. My only complaint is that there was so much talking that it felt like the story stalled a few times, which is unusual for a BKI book. I liked the tender ending and the lead in, to what I hope, is Angel’s story to come. I can’t wait!

In the previous book the team were in England trying to hunt down the elusive Spider. At the end of the book Christian, Emily, Angel, Ace and Rusty were unable to safely escape and have been holed up in hiding waiting for a chance to get back to America..

Christian and Emily have been verbally sparring with each other for a while. Neither would admit to the underlying cause – sexual tension. When their next attempt to get out of England goes FUBAR, due to something from Christian's elusive past that we finally get to find out about, Christian and Emily finally give into their feelings BUT with conditions (ya we all know how well that works out).

I enjoyed getting to know Christian and Emily more – finding out about their past and what made them so leery of relationships. It not till towards the end of the book is any progress made on the Spider issue.. Looks like Angel's book is going to be the one that possibly wraps up that arc and boy does it look like its going to be a humdinger of a book..

Another entertaining read in this series that is coming close to being finished.

This was book 11 in the series, but it picked up immediately where the last one left off with our mission group still stuck in England trying to get back home after they failed to find Spider's identity through the Morrison guy. While you could easily read it as a stand alone, just know that it ties closely with the previous book.

Christian and Emily have had this UST going on for a while and their banter is killing everyone. Finally they are going to get together, but Emily drops a bombshell on Christian by telling him not to fall in love with her because she can't do love. While it was great seeing him love her anyway and her fighting it, I felt she fought it too long. I also think Rusty and Ace's bickering and kissing took away from Christian and Emily's story. And oddly enough, I thin Angel stole the whole thing. Who knew he had a sense of humor and could talk?! I am anxiously looking forward to his book!

Advanced Readers Copy Courtesy of Netgalley.....:)

This action packed book pretty much picks up where the last one ended, with Christian, Emily, Ace, Rusty and Angel being trapped in Europe in a cottage for the last couple of days. When they finally in a position to leave to get to the airport, they run smack dab into the press who are on their doorstep as Christian's name has been leaked for something that happened many years ago when he was in the SAS. This little incident bring out 2 crazy brothers who believe that Christian is the one who is guilty for letting their older brother die many years ago in the incident that is currently on the news.

They are now once again trapped unable to leave Europe and get back to the States, and finally all the sexual tension between Christian and Emily is about to explode.

I enjoyed the banter between these 2 characters and everything that happened between the.

Even thought this is the 11th book in this series it is still such a joy to read now, as it was in the beginning and in my opinion they just get better and better. Looking forward to Angels book!!! :)

I love this series and have from the beginning. It's characters are funny and fierce. This book is no exception to that and is maybe one of the funnier ones of the series but it doesn't disappoint on the action or drama either.

Chicago born and bred, ex-CIA, Emily, is witty and sassy and organized. She is also determined to never mix business with pleasure.

Christian, ex-SAS from across the pond, with his stiff upper lip and fancy clothes has a hidden thing for Emily. He has a past like the other operatives of BKI that he doesn't talk about.

They are stuck hiding out until they can get back to Chicago in a house with Angel, Ace and Emily's friend Rusty.

When they are caught unaware their day goes from good to bad to worse. This is their journey trying to get home from England. And a journey it is.

I received this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

The penultimate book of the long running Black Knights series.

Two stars might seem a little harsh and I'm sure it's just me but I'm a bit over supposed professionals in the secret service business thinking about the size of their colleague's package and how cute their ass is whilst running for their lives from the bad guys.

Hopefully the final book will put a bit more suspense in the romantic suspense as the team finally deal with the elusive "Spider".

Three and a half stars.

I haven't read the last few books in this series but I really enjoyed the books I had read so when I saw this available for review I was eager to see how the series had progressed.

Our BKI boys are in England, holed up in a cottage in Cornwall, and tensions are running high between Christian Watson, former British SAS soldier, and Emily Scott the team's office manager. But Christian has some murky secrets in his past and when they come back to haunt him the team is in trouble as both the press and enemies pursue him.

This story takes place over a few days, it's tight and tense with the team being pursued across South-West England whilst trying to discover the identity of the mysterious Spider. As always Julie Ann Walker writes a gripping thriller with gritty characters from tortured backgrounds - what you want from these kind of thriller romances.

However, being British I have to take umbrage at Christian's language. Julie Ann Walker appears to have looked up some British words and liberally sprinkled them throughout Christian's speech without regard for the regional provenance, historical usage, meaning or Christian's upbringing. So, for example, at one point they put a "dustbin" besides someone in case they are sick, a dustbin is something you keep outside which contains all your household rubbish - unless the guy is projectile vomiting a wastebin is more usual. Christian often uses the word "feckin" - that is used almost exclusively by the Irish (and sometimes the Scots), not English people. Christian talks about his mother cashing her government support checks at the pub, it should be her dole cheques (note the English spelling). Christian talks about going off in his "drawers", unless he's in a regency romance he should be talking about his pants or his Calvin Kleins. He also says he didn't want anyone to get the wrong idea and give Emily "poppycock" about things, poppycock means rubbish, gibberish so the sentence doesn't make sense. None of this should make any difference for non-British readers but it was jarring to this reader when a former SAS soldier brought up in relativity poverty and in a rough area speaks like a little old lady from an historical romance!

Setting aside my linguistic issues, I enjoyed this book, it was fast-paced and the characters were engaging, although I didn't quite grasp how they discovered the identity of Spider - that seemed a little bit too convenient, although I may have to reread that bit to confirm.

As always the little hints as to the next character to star in their own book were intriguing.

I received a free copy of this novel from the publisher via NetGalley in return for an honest review.

Bumped for release.

Fuel for Fire left Emily, Christian, Ace, Angel, and Emily's friend Rusty, trapped in jolly ole England when their plans to unmask their nemesis Spider falls through with unexpected hiccups. Hot Pursuit opens with the group still stuck in England, Christian's past coming to light, and Emily and Christian finally deal with their chemistry.

Christian and Emily get up close and personal with traumatic childhoods and terrible personal relationship skills. While those experiences explained so much about the H/h, I couldn't quit raising my eyebrows at Emily's illogical logic of why she had to avoid Christian. I will say, I liked his strategically intelligent and amusing responses, especially considering how motivated he was to catch her.

Christian and Emily's sarcastic barbs and witty insults have always reflected just how attracted they are to each other. The issue was a matter of WHEN they'd decide to do anything about it. Granted, their timing could have been so much better than it was, seeing as how they're stuck with their teammates on foreign soil and hiding from assailants. However, the combination of being stuck in close quarters and potentially dying did culminate into one heck of a sensual experience for these two, so I can't complain too much!

The supporting characters had their own dramas happening-Rusty and Ace dealing with labels and misconceptions between each other, Angel actually speaking, making jokes and-shocker-dropping a hint about his past. Curiosity abounds...

My main peeve would have to be Christian's language. After awhile, his articulation and wordage felt over the top and slightly forced. Almost as if the reader would forget he's British so hey! throw in a couple of British sounding words to make him authentic. Instead, I found the constancy slightly jarring and unnecessary.

Book #11 in the Black Knight series has less action and more introspection with the characters than previous stories, giving the storyline a different tone yet still retaining the entertainment value. Christian's past was a heavy focus, as was Emily's, and their romance was heady stuff. It was also fun learning more about the supporting characters at BKI and I can't wait to see what's in store for Angel, Ace, and Rusty!

I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book which I received at no cost from Sourcebooks Casablanca and the author.

UPDATE: 8/16/2017: Christian and Emily were great! I loved the action and romance that took place in the novel. It took place immediately after Fuel for Fire and we followed the adventures of Emily,Christian, Ace, Angel and Rusty. The dynamic between all of the characters was refreshing. Christian was charming and HAWT! Wow, I was in shock. Emily was a relatable, nice and spunky character and I enjoyed how carefree and kind she is. Ace and Rusty had tension that was burning up the sheets and it was interesting to see the perspectives of those two characters. Ace's backstory was really sad but I was happy that he's trying to fix that void. Angel was great as well. In this book, I got to see some more of him and I enjoyed that tease in the end regarding his potential story. Hot Pursuit is a thrill ride and I look forward to reading the next book!

REVIEW: HOT PURSUIT is the eleventh installment in Julie Ann Walker’s contemporary, adult BLACK KNIGHTS INC romantic suspense /military, action series focusing on an elite group of ex Navy SEALS, FBI, CIA and military heroes headquartered at a custom motorcycle shop in Chicago known as Black Knights Inc. The men and women of Black Knights Inc. are so far under the radar that they are blacker than Black Ops. This is former British SAS agent Christian Watson, and former CIA employee Emily Scott. HOT PURSUIT can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary. Both Christian and Emily were introduced in earlier installments.

Told from several third person perspectives including Christian and Emily HOT PURSUIT picks up immediately upon the events of book ten FUEL FOR FIRE, and follows Christian, Emily, Jamin ‘Angel’ Agassi, former Navy pilot Colby Ventura, and former CIA operative Rusty Parker through Europe as they continue their search for the mysterious and elusive ‘Spider’ whose illegal business operations and ties have endangered the BKI team members both in Europe and back home. As the group endeavors to stay off the radar, the team becomes embroiled in a personal vendetta against one of their own. What ensues is the struggle to stay one step ahead of someone gunning for our story line hero; and the building but acrimonious relationship between Christian and Emily.

Emily and Christian have been dancing around one another for a sometime but our heroine is reluctant to get involved with Christian Watson. Christian’s past is darkened by memories of an abusive childhood, as well as time spent as a prisoner of war where he faced torture, and threats from his captors. Emily’s childhood and her parent’s numerous marriages have become the barometer against which she bases all of her own relationships and interactions, a barometer that refuses to allow our heroine to fall in love. Christian is a sexy, tattooed, and brooding well-dressed Brit who pushes all of Emily’s buttons- buttons she pushes back against Christian in return. The $ex scenes are limited, seductive and intense without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

There is a building story line and relationship between Colby Ventura and Rusty Parker. Both men are attracted to one another but Rusty has yet to come out of the proverbial closet and in this Colby struggles with his attraction to a man who is unwilling to admit the truth. A history of love and loss forces Colby to reveal the how and why of his battle with the man to whom he is attracted but Rusty’s reasons are in direct conflict to Colby’s previous loss.

There is a large ensemble cast of secondary and supporting characters including Angel, Colby and Rusty; police officers and brothers Ben and Lawrence Michelson, as well as several members of the BKI Team-Samantha Tate and Ozzie Sykes, Mac and Delilah McMillan, Penni (Dan) Currington, and Frank ‘Boss’ Knight and his wife Becky.

The world building continues to follow the latest assignment as the BKI Team in Europe searches for a dangerous businessman and possible killer.

HOT PURSUIT is a story of friendship and love; heartbreak and painful memories; revelations, the truth, intrigue, betrayal and revenge. The premise is exciting and entertaining; the characters are colorful, charismatic and dynamic-there is plenty of sexually charged back and forth banter; the romance is provocative. The story line involving the person known as ‘Spider’ was virtually non-existent but new revelations and information reveal a possible connection to one of the BKI heroes. Julie Ann Walker’s BLACK KNIGHTS INC. is an addicting series with great character interactions that humanize the heroes and heroines we love to follow.

✩ ✩ ✩ ✩ FOUR-STAR ✩ REVIEW ✩ ✩ ✩ ✩

> > Judging a Book by it's Cover < <
Black and White male in suit, wearing sunglasses. Does not stand out so much as the bold red font of the title and large, crisp author name font choices do. After reading the banter and snark between Christian and Emily in FUEL FOR FIRE (and even before that), I was truly looking forward to seeing these two come together.

> > Looking Deeper < <
POV ~> Third-person narrative.
Setting ~> Mostly UK, ending in US

This story picked up right around the time that Christian, Emily, Ace, Angel, and Rusty split up from Dagan and Chelsea (Fuel for Fire) while trying to leave England after a somewhat botched mission. The group was still trying to escape England and fly under Spider's radar when they gained a duo hell-bent on terminating Christian.
Christian and Emily's cat-and-mouse banter was as amusing as it was exhausting. While there was a low-lying level of sexual foreplay evident in their early banter, it was not until about the halfway point before they matured enough to admit it. On the surface, they may have appeared to be as similar as oil and water but where it counted, there were deeper commonalities to be found. Dialogue was, by turns, smart and witty. The interactions were believable.
A secondary story arc between Ace and Rusty was developing as well. While I am 100%, completely on-board with reading M/M Gay Romance stories (and they comprise approximately 58% of this years' reviews), the relationship between these two got annoying fairly quick with their polarized personalities and outlooks. In the final chapters, a story arc was beginning to make itself known for Angel as well... indicating that there may be - at least - two more books to this series. However, where the earlier books were chocked full of adventure and suspense, but contained enough hot romance to keep the HEA fans happy, the last couple books seemed to be losing steam. They felt more in-line with many contemporary of the romances out there that add a slight suspense edge to perk the plot up. This was not a wholly disappointing read; it was still an incredibly well-written story with the BKI cast that many readers have grown to love.
The predictability was low. While the bane of BKI's existence is still at large, the immediate conflicts between the lead couple were resolved and they reached their HEA.
Overall, BKI is an outstanding series and while I did enjoy HOT PURSUIT, I think some of the earlier books in the series were better fitted to my preferences.
.
Rating: [R] ~ Score: 4.125 ~ Stars: 4
Warning: Contains some graphic violence and a LOT of UK English.

Julie Ann Walker has done it again. Each new Black Knights Inc book I read I love it a little more than the last one. While I once was annoyed by Emily and Christian in a previous book, I absolutely loved them in Hot Pursuit. In this book, we find Emily, Christian, Ace, Rusty, and Angel trying to get the heck out of England when a piece of Christian’s past comes back to make life difficult for the team. As with all of the BKI books, this one is filled with suspense, intense emotions, new romance, and a whole lot of passion.

From the witty banter between the characters, the hilarious internal monologues and the fresh and current voice that Walker offers, Hot Pursuit is a fun book from start to finish and had me furiously flipping pages and hanging on each word. She keeps the reader wanting to read just one more page but before you know it you are at the end! This story is the one that keeps you from sleep, housework, and other aspects of life that demand your attention.

If you have read previous BKI books, you know the men and women know how to handle their weapons. In Hot Pursuit, they are left without weapons and have to outsmart and outrun their threats. It brought about a bit of simplicity, yet was just as exciting to see what they had to plan and what would happen when confronted by armed men.

Now, let’s get to the romance part of the story. Christian and Emily bicker. They push each other’s buttons. They are both irritating. But they also have secrets that explain their personalities. Watching them discover the softer side of each other and how good they are together was truly rewarding. It was like your two best friends finally gave into their feelings for one another and you just know it is a match made in heaven. Walker did such a lovely job with the two of them from the way they poke fun at each other to their love making and the deep down love they show one another. It was fan-freaking-tastic.

One thing a bit different in Hot Pursuit compared to the other books in the series, is that Walker gave us a teaser of a relationship between two males – Rusty and Ace. While I typically am not interested in male/male stories, I was very intrigued by this one. The source of their arguing and what is preventing them from getting together is one I can’t wait to find out how they solve. Even if you are not interested in male/male books, you can still read this one just fine, as the relationship doesn’t really go far yet.

If you are looking for a romantic suspense to read next, give Hot Pursuit a read. It is an extraordinary story that will have you thinking about the characters long after you finish the book.

5⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Hot, sexy, and non stop action!!!! The BKI team is back and better than ever in Julie Ann Walkers Hot Pursuit. And this time it’s Christian’s turn to find out if he is willing to give himself a chance at happiness. Julie Ann Walker nails this book and once again shows that she is the queen of romantic suspense. I can’t wait to see what is next for the BKI team.

Emily and the team are still trying to get out of England but keep running into problems. And just when they think they are on their way out two brothers come and change everything.

Christian just wants out of England. It’s no longer his home and holds no good memories, unfortunately they aren’t getting out fast enough. And to make matters worse being so close to Emily is making him want and need things that he shouldn’t want. But when two brothers threaten things he decides maybe it’s time to stop hiding.

Emily doesn’t do relationships her parents lives have shown her that she is not going to have a chance at love. But Christian changes that for her and makes her wish that she could open herself up to love. And when their lives are yet again put in danger will Emily finally give in? Or will she let her old worries and doubts get the best of her and push Christian away?

Julie Ann Walker continues her exciting Black Knights Inc. series with Hot Pursuit. I have to say that I have been addicted to this series since reading the first book.

This action packed story takes up right after Fuel For Fire where Christian and Emily and their small crew of operatives are doing their best to get out of England. It was great reading as Christian and Emily have been fighting their feelings for a while now so there was a lot of sexual tension. As usual, nothing went as planned as the group met with some trouble from Christian's past. This one had loads of action, adventure, and passion.

Julie Ann Walker's writing was fantastic like always. I didn't want to put down my Kindle for a minute. The characters were so very vividly written that I could picture them in my mind .... Christian with his smoldering sexiness and Emily's spunky grit reminding me of Becky from In Rides Trouble. This author truly brings her characters to life and has absolutely no trouble in getting the readers attention. I have to admit that she broke my heart with Christian's mysterious past.

From beginning to end this book captured my total attention. I LOVED IT !!!

Hot Pursuit takes readers from where Fuel for Fire leaves off. After separating from two members of the BKI group when a mission goes south, members Christian, Emily, Angel, Ace and Emily’s friend Rusty are on a quest to return to the states. While you don’t have to read the rest of the novels in the Black Knight Inc series, I would highly recommend it. This novel, like the others, is action pack and high physical/emotional intensity. I enjoyed the batter between Christian and Emily. This novel was full of sexual tension and laugh out loud moments. While trying to leave Christian’s homeland country England, his past comes back to haunt him and put a hinder to their quick escape. Forces into life threatening circumstance, heighten emotion, and close quarters, their underline sexual tension lights on fire. Christian will stop at nothing to have and protect Emily. Emily is a once burned twice cautious kind of girl but she just can’t resist all that is Christian Watson. I loved reading Hot Pursuit and the journey to Christian and Emily’s HEA. I can’t wait to read the next book! Give me some Angel! (Hopeful) I would give this novel a 5-star review!

~~I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads ~~

This is the eleventh book in the series, and it makes an awful lot more sense if you have read the previous installments. Each book gives us a fabulous continuation of ongoing political/criminal intrigue and also the romantic entanglements of the BKI team.

We left part of the team stranded in the UK, and with the addition of Rusty in the mix. One of the team is particularly anxious about being back in the UK - Christian has no love of the country of his birth, and has memories from his times in the SAS which he would rather put behind him. The fact that the woman who he thinks he is in love with is also there, and in a dangerous situation for which she is ill prepared is adding to his stress. At one stage there is one of the funniest scenes that I have read in a long time - which did a great job of setting the relationship between Emily and Christian in context.

Slow burn is almost too fast to describe these two - and all the people around them are just waiting for them to sort themselves out. It is hugely enjoyable to get both their thoughts and expectations.

One of the best things about this installment is that the underlying plot is not complete, and so more books must follow! And there are more relationship issues to be resolved ... I love that it leaves me wanting more, but that it doesn't feel like it is a cliffhanger.

4.5 HOT stars

This book picks up right after book 10 concludes. It will make much more sense to read this series in order but you could pick this up as a stand alone. If you remember, part of the BKI crew is stranded in England. Christian and Emily have been dancing around each other for some time now. Being in imminent danger once again, causes them to sort out their true feelings.

I really loved the wit and snark that comes from these two. They thrive on driving each other bonkers with that thick underlying s3xual tension. This book is exactly as the title suggests. Not only is the BKI team being pursued as they try to get home to Chicago. But once Christian gets Emily sorted out in his head, he is relentless in his pursuit to make her his.

Lots of action in this one. Lovely little sneak peeks at books I hope are coming. Ace and Rusty PLEASE. And it looks like Angel might get his HEA soon as well. The team is on their very last mission. It will be a sad day when BKI becomes just a bike repair shop. Great series!

I'm so in love. SO SO in love with Christian. Ozzie will always be my main BKI man but Christian and his smooth talking ways have rushed right up to second place.

We've spent years alongside the BKI crew and nothing has been as entertaining as the back and forth teasing between the former SAS operative Christian and the sassy-mouthed office manager Emily. There's always been a clear chemistry just waiting to burst the sheets in to flames but Walker delivers in just the right amounts to readers.

We pick up on Christian, Emily, Angel, Ace, and Rusty right where they split from Dagan's book previously. As they are on the run for their lives, it clicks for Christian that he truly does love Emily. He spends time wooing her while letting her think that he's only in it for the sex. While a new and mysterious villain comes after Christian, he's got to also battle Emil's fear of her past.

There's no lack of action in Hot Pursuit. The classic kick butt knights are still kicking, even when on the run. And ACE.....OMG....I want Ace to have his own book! This plot line has got to be filled with gold and I'm really hoping that Walker can finish it out to the direction I believe it's heading. I won't spoil that one for y'all ;) As for our next Knight...Angel's mysteries are about to unravel...
