Rate this book
It's almost Hanukkah and the dreidel-maker's shop is busy. But all is not well for the four Hebrew letters that will soon go on the wooden tops. The Heys, the Nuns, and the Shins are jealous of everyone's favorite letter, the Gimel. They decide to hide the Gimels so that the dreidel-maker can't use them. But then the other letters learn that the Hanukkah story wouldn't be complete without the Gimels! Is it too late for the missing letters to be found?

Cute. Dreidel letters are in a fight with each other. Then they hear the real story behind their existence and they decide not to fight anymore. Has the dreidel game directions as backmatter.

This review is meant for parents, teachers, and other people that work with children to read.

The three of Hebrew letters of nun, hey, and shin used in the game Dreidel think they're not important and decide to hide the gimmels before Hanukkah. The dreidel maker and his apprentice can't find the gimmels the next day. While the gimmels are missing all the nuns, heys, and shins learn how important not just their letter is in the game of dreidel but that all of them are. They also learn how important the game was to children during the time of the Maccabees and that it is a game that is for both children and adults.

I like how this story teaches children about how to play dreidel through the characters in the story and through an explanation at the end of the book about what each player does when the different letters are rolled. It also teaches them that the game is played with chocolate gelt or pennies.

This is a fun book that I believe many children and adults can learn how to play dreidel by reading it. They will also learn through the story about the background of how the game got started and why it is was so important to play it during Hanukkah.

I received a free copy of this book for the purpose of reviewing it.

Such a cute Hanukkah picture book!
The letters on the dreidel have had it! Nun, Hei, and Shun are unhappy that Gimel is the best letter to land on while playing dreidel, so they devise a plan to hide all the Gimels.
And, then Nun, Hei, and Shun learn about the importance of the dreidel letters from a dreidel craftsman and realize the importance of the dreidel and Hanukkah. I cute book with whimsical artistry. I recommend to parents with young children.

The Missing Letters- A Dreidel Story is a very playful way to introduce children to the fun dreidel game we all love to play on Hanukkah.
Everyone knows that the Gimel is the favorite letter on the dreidel because when your dreidel lands on the Gimel, you get everything in the pot. That's good for the Gimel l but the Hey, Nun and Shin in the story aren't happy about that and decide to hide the Gimel so that the dreidel maker and his apprentice won't be able to put it on the dreidel.
As it turns out, the rest of the letters soon realize that they are all special. They return the Gimel and Hanukkah turns out as joyful as ever.
