When a missionary visits Joshua Lowe’s church and makes a plea for one more to join the forty-person mission team, Joshua takes notice. He is no longer satisfied with his mundane life. Maybe a deeper commitment is what he’s been searching for. But then something—or someone, that is—pulls him back.

Melody Watkins is damaged. Past sins have paved a difficult road for her and her young daughter. Now she finally has a job and things are starting to look up. At least until her car breaks down. But then again that could be a blessing as well, because it has brought someone new into her life.

Melody’s secret past and Joshua’s potential future holds them back from growing closer. Many prayers will be offered to determine if their roads intersect or if Joshua will be the last of the forty.

Enjoyable read that keeps you engaged. In this book we meet Joshua, who's struggling with whether to fill the last spot on a mission team. He meets a new worker named Melody by literally bumping in to her on the way to the elevator. He's intrigued from that first introduction and when he's asked to help her he starts wondering if his mission field is destined to be closer to home. We meet his friends David and Chloe, whom I hope we hear more from in later books, as well as Melody's neighbor who is a force to be reckoned with. Can't wait to see what book #2 has to offer and hoping we hear more from our supporting characters in this one.

Joshua wonders if the Lord wants him to pursue a short term missions trip, but instead finds his interest and ministry closer to home. Melody has made a mistake in the past and feels Christians won't forgive her. This is a story of Christian compassion for a single mum in need.

While I enjoyed this book, Josh seems to fall in love with Melody, knowing she has a rather distant relationship with God. Also, the ending seems to come rather abruptly when I felt more time needed to lead up to it.

One of forty

This was a very different style of writing but a very enjoyable one as well. Read this in one night and was quite surprised by the attention paid to the meaning of forty. The love and compassion shown meant that not all people are alike but God in their life could and was a great thing. This is a book to be recommended to others to read. This was an Arc read and free for me to enjoy. This is my review and mine alone. Norma Gorrill

Great Christian love story

It is so nice to be able to read a good "clean" love story without all the explicit sex scenes. Joshua and Melody both have their battles to over come. With the help of co-workers, a great neighbor and a delightful three year old what will the outcome be?

Forty

Numbers play importance in our lives. It did to Joshua! Ms. Rogers has woven a very sweet and tender story on forgiveness! The story reminds us that God is available if we come to him!

A sweet story of one man trying to discern God's will for his life and a woman who believes she can never be forgiven for her big mistake. A lot of prayer leads to happy ending, both in the physical world and in the spiritual world.

This book had such potential but it failed in a few ways. The "40" with Joshua was such a non-issue I forgot it was supposed to be the main point of the book.
Everything felt a bit rushed with the flow of the book. If you are looking for an easy clean read, this is a good choice.

A great read. Hard to put down. Christian fiction at its best. Great story of Christ's love and acceptance. Looking forward to reading more by the author.

Convinced by her stepmother that Christians didn’t forgive, Melody, one of the main characters in this book, has a hard time with her self-worth & forgiving herself. The overall theme of this book seemed to me to be that we often see & support the missionaries, but fail to see the mission work needed in our own backyard. I loved that Joshua’s real success isn’t money, but is a right relationship with God. And who couldn’t love the sweet, endearing Miss Beverly?!! A fun, easy book with a little bit of mystery.

One of Forty

One of Forty was a sweet romance. It shows you how know not to allow your past to keep you from your future.

Melody allowed her past mistakes to dictate a lot of the decisions she made in her life and it almost caused her to miss out on her blessing. But, I love that Joshua was willing and determined to be patient and show her love. He was able to show her that real love does not condemn, that it is long suffering and will not keep count of wrongs.

This story teaches you that your biggest testimony is not what you say, but how you live. I will admit that this story had one of my pet peeves. I don't like when a romance has very little romance. I actually felt that Joshua and Melody were friends instead of a couple. There was something that happened toward the end of the book that I felt was out of place. I could see that scene happening if they came across as more of a couple than friends. I give this story 4 stars because the lovers of sweet romance would adore this story.

I really enjoyed this story. The author has combined wonderful characters, romance and faith with a little suspense and written a story that had me pulled me from the first pages. It is also a beautiful story following Melody, a single mom, who has been told that because of the things she has done that she is not worth loving and cannot be forgiven as she finds God's love and forgiveness through the love and forgiveness of those around her. This is one that I certainly recommend, and I am definitely looking forward to the next book in this series. I was given a copy of this book but a favorable review was not required. The opinions expressed are my own.

This was such a great book. I can't wait to read other books in this series when they come out. I fell in love with Melody and could feel what she was going through. The same with the other characters. I loved the Inspirational theme of this book. It is very well written.
