Walter Elias “Walt” Disney (December 5, 1901 – December 15, 1966) was an American film producer, director, screenwriter, voice actor, animator, entrepreneur, entertainer, international icon, and philanthropist. Disney is famous for his influence in the field of entertainment during the 20th century. As the co-founder (with his brother Roy O. Disney) of Walt Disney Productions, Disney became one of the best-known motion picture producers in the world. The corporation he co-founded, now known as The Walt Disney Company, today has annual revenues of approximately U.S. $35 billion.
Disney is particularly noted for being a film producer and a popular showman, as well as an innovator in animation and theme park design. He and his staff created some of the world's most famous fictional characters including Mickey Mouse, a character for which Disney himself was the original voice. He has been awarded four honorary Academy Awards and has won twenty-two competitive Academy Awards out of fifty-nine nominations, including a record four in one year, giving him more awards and nominations than any other individual. He also won seven Emmy Awards. He is the namesake for Disneyland and Walt Disney World Resort theme parks in the United States, as well as the international resorts Tokyo Disney, Disneyland Paris, and Disneyland Hong Kong.
Disney died of lung cancer in Burbank, California, on December 15, 1966. The following year, construction began on Walt Disney World Resort in Florida. His brother Roy Disney inaugurated the Magic Kingdom on October 1, 1971.
The Walt Disney Company (NYSE: DIS) (commonly referred to as Disney) is the largest media and entertainment conglomerate in the world in terms of revenue. Founded on October 16, 1923, by brothers Walt Disney and Roy Disney as the Disney Brothers Cartoon Studio, the company was reincorporated as Walt Disney Productions in 1929. Walt Disney Productions established itself as a leader in the American animation industry before diversifying into live-action film production, television, and travel. Taking on its current name in 1986, The Walt Disney Company expanded its existing operations and also started divisions focused upon theatre, radio, publishing, and online media. In addition, it has created new divisions of the company in order to market more mature content than it typically associates with its flagship family-oriented brands.
The company is best known for the products of its film studio, the Walt Disney Motion Pictures Group, today one of the largest and best-known studios in Hollywood. Disney also owns and operates the ABC broadcast television network; cable television networks such as Disney Channel, ESPN, and ABC Family; publishing, merchandising, and theatre divisions; and owns and licenses 11 theme parks around the world. On January 23, 2006, it was announced that Disney would purchase Pixar in an all-stock transaction worth $7.4 billion. The deal was finalized on May 5. On December 31, 2009, Disney Company acquired the Marvel Entertainment, Inc. for $4.24 billion. The company has been a component of the Dow Jones Industrial Average since May 6, 1991. An early and well-known cartoon creation of the company, Mickey Mouse, is the official mascot of The Walt Disney Company.
The book focus on a couple of adventures of Pinocchio and includes some of the most important characters from the original book of Collodi. “Once upon a time there was a carpenter called Geppetto”. Geppetto lives with his cat Figaro, fish Cleo and the talking cricket. Geppetto is overwhelmed when his puppet called Pinocchio becomes a real boy. One day Pinocchio goes out to do some shopping but gets persuaded by Lucignolo to use the money (Geppetto gave him)to buy cakes instead of food . When Pinocchio is asked by the shop assistant if the money was for the cakes he lies and his nose starts to grow. Later, he encounters the dishonest fox and cat who convince him to go to the puppet show where he meets the master Mangiafuoco. Mangiafuoco captures him but Pinocchio frees himself and he is finally reunited with his dad Geppetto.
The story of Pinocchio is great for children as it helps them appreciate values such as honesty and love. Pinocchio is a naughty child and lies because he does not want to be told off - his nose grows, anytime he says a lie. The language (Italian) is simple and accessible. Children (with Italian) from the age of 5 would be able to understand and enjoy this book. It can also be read to children with no Italian as the book has a lot of colourful illustrations and the adventures are short and easy to understand. I love the choice of the characters: the fairy, Mangiafuoco and “ Grillo Parlante” (talking cricket). Children can be encouraged to write about these characters or draw pictures of them.
the story of how Pinocchio became a real boy..so Geppetto a kindly old man who creates toys and puppets for children makes a wish for his newly wooden puppet Pinocchio to become a real boy..along comes the Blue fairy and bam Pinocchio is turned into a wooden boy and given a couple chance to become a real child as long as he is brave, truthful and unselfish and Jimmy Cricket gets to be his conscience to help him make the right decsions..So now he is off to school the next day and of course he meets 2 bad guys who persuade him to join the theater Jimmy comes along and tells him that is a bad idea but he don't listen so the Blue Fairy rescues him and he tells her a lie and his nose grows so he learns lying is bad then he gets in trouble again thanks to the same 2 dudes(u would thought he would have learned from first time lol) and he goes to Pleasure Island where all bad boys go and starts turning into a donkey again Jimmy helps save him then they find out that his father Geppetto and his fish and cat were eaten but alive by a big whale so he goes this time to help save them..in the end well u have to read it to find out what happens lol.
This book was ok. It was short and a very easy read. The book covered the entire movie and was pretty much just a detailed summary of everything that happened in the movie. There was a little more of the dialogue from the movie which a lot of books like these don't have so that was nice. The pictures were taken right from the movie so that was also great. I thought it seemed a little dry and needed some extra detail to bring out the emotion felt in the movie. Fans of Disney and Pinocchio will probably enjoy this book but it's not one of my favorites.
A beautifully put-together volume that retells the Disney version of the Pinocchio story in a children's book format. The illustrations do a good job of capturing the beauty of the movie's animation.
Originally intended this as a Little Free Library book, but I think I'm going to hang on to it for a bit.
This story is about a woodcutter who makes puppets and wishes on a star that one become a real boy. The wish comes true and Pinocchio faces many challenges like a puppeteer, amusement part and lastly a whale. He sacrifices himself to save his father and in the end he does become a real live boy.
This is a great book for learning to make good decisions and not to lie. Learning to do the right thing and be honest is a great lesson for school children.
Pinocchio is a fantasy book about a doll of a boy that becomes real. Each time he lies, his nose grows. This is a passed down story and also a book that holds a valuable lesson with honesty.
This is the Walt Disney version of an old story. Pinocchio was a wooden puppet that came alive, but wasn't yet a real boy. He was sent to school one day, but on his way he got sidetracked and led off on a not-so-good adventure. It was some time before finding his way home.
Ça fait du bien de se replongé un peu dans l'enfance même si la lecture de ce livre me confirme qu'il ne fait pas parti de mes préfères. Tout de même j'ai eu beaucoup de plaisir à le relire! !
