General Treyvon Rayner is the Supreme Commander of the Kaliszian Defenses. He is the cousin and trusted friend of the Kaliszian Emperor, Emperor Liron Kalinin, in spite of Treyvon's ancestor being one of the causes of the Great Infection so many centuries ago. It is never far from Treyvon's mind, and he vowed he'd spend his entire life trying to make things right. Chef Jennifer Neibaur dreamed of traveling to exotic places, of experiencing different cuisines, and learning how to prepare them. Her dream came true, but at a high price. She lost her sister. Her husband died. And she was severely injured. All that was enough for her to welcome death. But for a chef to end up in a place where food was just sustenance, and never something enjoyed, was the ultimate punishment. Two strong, honorable people are both trying to find forgiveness and redeem themselves for things that were out of their control. Neither is looking for love. But if they can accept it, the forgiveness they find might be for more than just themselves.

Great story, terrific narration, plenty of action and romance!

The following ratings are out of 5:
Romance: 💚🖤❤️💜🩵
Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📕📗📙📘📔
World building: 🌏🌍🌎🌏🌍
Character development: ☺️😊🙃😋🥰
Narrator(s): 🎙🎙🎙🎙🎙
Narration type: Duet Narration ✨Full Cast✨

The Hero: General Treyvon Raynor - he is the supreme commander of the Kaliszian defenses. He had been in hundreds of battles and was a feared leader. It had been two weeks since the Zaludians attacked the base on Pontuse. He found that a human female had fought in that battle to try to save her friends, and it may have cost her life. She has been in the deep repair unit for weeks, and the unit also discovered that she had suffered many prior injuries.

The heroine: Jennifer Neibaur - she was a chef on Earth and went with her husband Todd to some guys combat weekend in the mountains. He wanted her to cook for him and his friends, so she agreed, even though they had been fighting because her little sister Kimmy was living with them. Jen was abducted by aliens called Ganglians. The Ganglians sold the abducted people to the Zaludians who put them to work in the mines on Pontuse. The men from Earth tried to protect her and Mac, the only other female, but they weren’t able to do so for long and Todd was killed. She was badly hurt before they were rescued by the Kaliszians.

The story: Treyvon felt the need to protect Jennifer from the first time he saw her during the rescue. His ancestor used to rule Pontius which was an important base that dealt in fresh food and energy crystals. Though he was greedy, and his greed set off a chain of events which the Kaliszians were still paying for today. It set off the great infection which killed everything on Pontuse and later on other planets and by the end, males outnumbered females two to one. Treyvon still wants to make up for what his ancestor did.

The storyline about Jen being a chef and the fact that Kaliszian’s didn’t know how to cook was a good one. The Kaliszian’s had all kinds of meats and vegetables, as well as staples similar to sugar, salt, flour, etc. but didn’t know how to use most of it. They assigned a soldier to do the cooking of the one meal a day that wasn’t packaged (similar to our military MRE’s). The soldier basically just boiled the meat and threw in a few vegetables every single day.

I also liked the slow burn romance between Jen and Treyvon. Jen fascinated Treyvon, though he thought he would never find love because of his ancestor. Jen loved her husband and was grieving even though she looked back on her marriage and found her husband a bit lacking, especially since Treyvon treated her so well. Though there was one thing I didn’t like at all. Jen had been scarred on her face from being beaten in the mines when she tried to save her husband, and though the Kaliszian technology could fix her scars, she didn’t want that. Even though the scars obviously bothered her greatly and made her insecure.

This audiobook was done in multiple points of view via duet narration. Ian Gordon, Jennifer Gil, Griffin Murphy, Amanda Hendricks and Rosalyn Hicks narrated the story. None of these are near my favorite narrators, but it was duet narration and done by a full cast, so it is hard to complain. I mean I search out audiobooks that are done in duet narration and I almost always pass over audiobooks done by a single narrator. So, any author willing to do a full cast duet narration, has me saying yes from the start. The narrators for this book did a fine job, so I am happy.

You know when you create a really good review and are about to hit post ... and then suddenly your work is erased and you just can't retreive it no way no how...

Yup, that just happened here and I'm not in a mind state to re-create.... right now...

So. I loved this story. Loved the characters. Loved the bridge in series and can't wait for the next release. Whenever that might be.

Happy birthday to Michelle, author (Birthday is March 13)

Please take pity on your fans who can't wait for the next release....

** hopefully I can get an updated better review out after I eat some chocolate... lots and lots of chocolate.

Tornian & Kaliszian series starting to make sense!

After reading this book I'm starting to figure out how the Tornian and Kaliszian series are starting to blend together. I did like this book, but I did feel like parts of it dragged on and on. It wasn't as good as I thought Grim, the first of the Tornian series, was. I did really like the ending. I kinda figured it out about 1/3 into the book. I can't wait to read about Ynyr's oldest brother, Ull. That will be an interesting book!

What can I say? I love this silly, funny, angsty series! LOL

Loved seing the mighty general falling like a ripe pear (sorry, it's badly translated Italian metaphor) for a damaged cook!

But what I love in this series is the universe and the various way the different races view their mates! All of them are alpha to the extreme, but they're also endearing like cute barbarious children!

OK it is only 437 pages... not 650. 17 hours on audio... 17 loooooong hours of one of the silliest books ever.
I wanted to give it more than 2 stars but it just isn't that good, even if I did somewhat enjoy it.
This series is ridiculous but fun, but this one was OTT silly.
It's one of those books where the author tries to make the intrigue plausible by making the characters seriously stupid. Then there's the God and Goddess who keep showing up. I hate that in a story (unless the author is Neil Gaiman).
It's also very slow with way too much minutia. It's sometimes corny, sometimes sappy, and I think the Kaliszians are even bigger morons than the Tornians. But I DID like the romance.
Mostly, I think, this book worked for me because of my busy schedule this week and didn't distract me, lol.
Will I get the next one?
I don't know. Maybe. It certainly won't be because I give a rats ass about the plight of the characters.

I listened to this on audio, and the readers were only OK. There are 5 of them! But strangely the men all sounded the same. So I still got confused here and there as to who was talking. Jennifer Gil in particular is super annoying in her o-v-e-r-l-y enunciated reading. And she makes every sentence either sound like the character is a 'know it all' or kind of surprised. The publisher really needs to get rid of the retarded sound effects too! The foot steps sounded like horse hooves and made me laugh every time! lol.

Normally when I love a book, but it has an awful cover, much like Treyvon I say something along the lines of ‘don’t judge a book by its cover’. However, I feel like the cover describes this book perfectly, yes it’s kind of cheesy with the big buff guy staring sternly at you, pecs and biceps bulging. Yet…when I see it, it makes me smile, so although it isn’t the most aesthetically pleasing, or the sexiest cover I still kind of like it anyway. Which, in a nutshell describes my feelings for this book. I really enjoyed it, it was cheesy, over the top and yet I ate it up and finished the last page with a smile on my face.

This is the second book in the Kaliszians series and Eidem hits us again with a mixture of sci-fi, mysticism and romance. Although this is a strange combination and logically it doesn’t make much, if any, sense I like these books enough that I work a little harder than I normally would at suspending my disbelief. So when my brain is screaming at me that it doesn’t make sense, which believe me happens a loy, I just tell it to shut the hell up and I continued enjoying the book.

One of the things I liked was the romance. As always it was really sweet and I like that it doesn’t just jump in, it builds itself up. Despite Treyvon being a big tough alien, with more muscles then the guy on the cover, he’s actually a big ol’ marshmallow when it comes to the heroine. So, if you fancy some great escapism, give this book a try, although I recommend you read the Nikhil the first book in the series first. In fact, I recommend you start at the beginning, this series is a spin off of the Tornian series.

3.25+ RATING- Overall I liked the story but it seemed both long and slow at times. Still, this is a series I plan on sticking with.

5 Stars! What a wonderful sappy read Treyvon (Kaliszian book 2) by M.K. Eidem. This is my favorite so far. I love this more than Grim (Tornians series) and that’s saying a lot! Treyvon is a smart version of a caveman (is that possible?) and Jennifer is compassionate and loving. Eidem didn’t treat us as idiots. We knew who the villain(s) were from the beginning, we just didn’t know how it would end. I couldn’t find anything wrong with this story and look forward to the next installment. Note, I was hungry throughout the whole book, lol

This one was a bit different out of all of the M.K. Eidem stories I've read lately. The others were a big case of insta-luv or already established lovers. This one was a gradual realization of feelings. I really liked how she let the feelings between Treyvon and Jennifer grow over the first half of the book. Jen had been through so much and it wouldn't have fit for them to suddenly be in love. I just really love how this story was told. I wondered how she would work out the True Mate bead not transferring and was very pleased with her explanation.

There were just so many moments I enjoyed in this book. I loved that Maysa and Luol received their True Mate beads with each other and by far the reunion between Jen and Kim was the best.

I look forward to more books in this series and the Tornian series as well.

Quotes & Faves:

"Yes. And while I knew Jennifer was beautiful, even with her scars, I had no idea she would rival the Goddess."

"I knew," Treyvon whispered and disconnected his comm.

“I don’t understand.” But as she spoke, a roar shook the universe. It was filled with the same pain and anguish that Jen felt for all the loved ones she’d lost. It dropped her to her knees, and her eyes filled with tears as she whispered. “Treyvon.”

"And if you did, it would be the thing that finally destroyed me." She let the words flow from her heart. Her fingers sank into his hair, cradling the back of his head as she held him close. "Losing you too."

"I love you, Jennifer." His thumbs gently wiped away her tears. "I don't need to see my beads in your hair to know you are who the Goddess created just for me."

2.50 - 3 Stars

Where to start. The thing about the Kalisian's is they are so wrapped up in blaming themselves for EVERYTHING wrong that happens. After awhile I pictured them kneeling on the ground with a flogger flagellating themselves chanting "It's all my fault, it's all my fault....". That, and their jumping to conclusions when things are misunderstood got irritating. How on earth did they become such grand warriors if they don't think before they leap? Oh and the constant "finger on the lips to shut them up" would be cause to snap that finger right off. In love or not....

I'm rating it 3 stars instead of 2 because I'm invested and do like the storyline of the Kalisians and their true mates. I liked that it crossed back into the Tornians with Emperor Wray, and how the Kalsisians and Tornians are now connected through marriages. I do, however, hope that the next installment brings it up a level because I don't know if I can take much more flagellation and jumping to conclusions.

The second book in the Kaliszian series by M.K. Eidem. General Treyvon Rayner, cousin to the Kaliszian Emperor, Emperor Liron Kalinin, is in charge of Pontus, the planet where the Zaludians slaves from Earth were located. He feels a lot of guilt for not finding them earlier and feels responsible for all the pain they endured. Among the slaves was a female named Jennifer Neibaur who grieves for her dead husband. But Jennifer finds her way around the kitchen and show the Kaliszians how food is supposed to taste.

I liked it a lot but maybe not quite as much as the previous one. All the talk about food just kept me hungry constantly and made it difficult at times. Especially when all I wanted to do was go out and buy me some brownies. (And no, I did not go get brownies!) Nikhil and ‘Mac’ were present throughout the story which I liked. It ended with more questions than answers but not with a true cliffhanger.

I enjoyed this installment but found it too long. Some parts dragged and there was lot of repetition. How both Trey and Jen felt they weren't good enough for each other.

I did like all the cooking and enjoyed the end where we meet up with some well-known Tornians. Some surprising discoveries are made and some very interesting things coming up in the next book. Can't wait.

I read / listened to Treyvon (Kaliszian, #2) by M.K. Eidem . This is one of those audios that has multiple narrators and sound effects. I read / listened to Nikhil (Kaliszians, #1) by M.K. Eidem and wasn't impressed but decided to give the second book a try. There isn't much difference between the Kaliszians and the Tornians. Their hair is a bit different and they are all one color. The biggest difference is when the goddess cursed them the Tornians lost their females. The Kaliszians have females but they don't have food. What food they have comes from trading with the Tornians. It's like living on MREs or lean cuisines. They also have magic beads in their hair and if a mate bead moves from his braids to yours you get stuck with a big insecure warrior type. Lucky girl!

Treyvon is the general and Jennifer is the scarred woman everyone was trying to hide from book 1. Jennifer is a chef. I almost abandoned the book right there. I'm just not into chefs being good heroines. I immediately knew what the plot would be. The Kaliszians are big bad warriors, they make and drive space ships across the universe but don't know to sprinkle a bit of salt on their food. Of course Jen teaches them how to not only stretch their meager supplies but makes them tasty too. Everyone is amazed by her culinary genius. Gah, sooooo very boring. Of course there is one evil warrior who believes he's better than anyone else. There's always one kidnapper or woman beater in these books, isn't there?

Lots of guilt and apologies from the hero. Lots of "it isn't your fault" from the heroine.

When I read Grim (Tornians, #1) by M.K. Eidem it was new and fresh and I loved it. The same plot basically told over and over has lost it's appeal.

Long awaited, but worth the wait

Treyvon and Jennifer both tortured by a past neither controlled, finding love. M K Eidem has once again provided a masterful glance at a beautifully designed culture. Couldn't put this book down, can't wait for the audio book.. Need more always.. I will read anything this author writes.. Did I say how I need more..

Wow!

Fantastic read! I have waited a year for this book. I can tell you it was worth it. But you need to read this series in order, so much happens I know you won't want to miss a word . I loved them all but still I think Grim might have a bit, just a bit more in it. I think I've read that one three times it 's so good. Enjoy.

Five!

Treyvon is one worthy male. In Wray he was forced to do something for the good of his people. It went against his beliefs and I was so glad when I found out he would get his own book. I couldn't put this down once I started it this morning. It really pulled everything together at the end. I can't wait to hear more from Ull and boy do I hope Gulzar gets his own book! I definitely recommend this to anyone though of you haven't yet I would start with Grim!

Kaliszian book 2

The very best in the Tornian/Kaliszian series so far, and it's so obvious that it's only going to get better from here! I can't wait for the next book to come out so I can see Pontus as it continues to grow, the earth females find their forever loves, and of course see good overcome evil.

A bit overwrought, Treyvon was more likeable in the Tornian series. I like the way the two series came together in this book and am actually looking forward to learning that Ull is a jackass and not really the best choice for first contact. LOL I'm waiting for the audiobook, though.

I LOVED IT!!!

I loved this book!! I started reading it and didn't stop until I finished it (yes that also means I didn't sleep last night)! I love this universe! So many questions were answered in this book: Will "Elite Warrior" Parlan get his comeuppance? Who was the female Parlan was plotting with? Will Jen and Kim be reunited? Will Jen's body ever fully heal? Will Jen use her cooking skills to help the Kaliszians?

There are so many new (extremely well written) plots unfurled in this book that I'm already frothing at the mouth for more!!!
All I can say is GET THIS BOOK! It's so worth it!

On a side note: I've noticed some people complaining about various editing issues in the past books. While I have noticed them, to me, they haven't detracted from my overall enjoyment of the story. I will say that while I noticed some in this book, there aren't nearly as many as there have been in previous books.

I like this author's stories, but I'm sorry to say that she can't really write that well. Her style is clanky, disjointed. (Her sex scene are pretty bad..).
But she does try.

what to say

I would give this book more than 5 stars if I could though I prefer dominant men , The General balances his dominance with caring , kindness and love. The General has the crimes of his ancestor to live with. Jen also has her demons to work through When they both overcome their demons they find that they are true mates and receive so many blessings. So much happens in this book that fans will be pleased with. I suggest that a reader at least read the previous book to get the most enjoyment from this book. But if you can start with Grim and work your way up to this book or go back to Grim after you have read both books in this part of the series for a truly excellent story line.

So long and boring

I have given this author 5 stars on all previous books. Half way through the book and the most exciting thing is how to make biscuits! Yes we know she's a chef and they don't know how to cook. Somehow they have every ingredient she could possibly need but they never used it. Making beast stock and what color a carrot is does nothing for me. Chapter after chapter of food prep...so boring. 60% of the book done and not even a kiss. Grim is my all time favorite book. This is so disappointing.

Can't get enough

I can't get enough of this author's books. This one is so good. It just hits all the emotions. The story is not just boy meets girl, little struggle then instant happiness. There is real character development and world building. The sub-characters that are built into the story add real depth and makes me wonder who's the next book gonna be about. I definitely want more from this world. Please. And please do the audible.
