How does one rate a cookbook without making all the dishes in said book? I don't know. I borrowed this from the library, because it's Johnny Cash related and I have a problem. Some of the dishes in this book look delicious. I'd like to get my own copy and try some out one day.

Compiled by John Carter Cash The Cash and Carter family cookbook : recipes and recollections from Johnny and June's table, there's nothing fancy about this cookbook as it contains down-home country cooking recipes, memories of family and famous friends when they visited the homestead of his celebrity parents, and his own recollections of being the only child of household of Johnny and June. John Carter Cash has also shared images of a few recipes handwritten by Johnny Cash as well as his own tips for making each dish successful. Overall, this is a very charming inside look at one of the greatest power couples in country music.

It’s amazing how food can bring families together. This book was wonderful that way. The recipes are very southern, and down home. Most were not too overly involved, and the pictures were somewhat delicious. I would buy this book for myself or someone who likes this type of food. The stories were very heartfelt and sweet.

Interesting read and recipes, though many probably a little too rich for my pallet. Some real interesting southern style cookery and easy instructions and interesting twists. Enjoyed the family snippets by John also.

2 1/2 stars. Not as many southern recipes as I expected. Some of the stories were interesting if you’re a Johnny or June fan.

Some great recipes to save. TBH, my favorite takeaway from this book, though, was the revelation that the Man in Black at veggie burgers.

This cookbook is just beautiful. The photography is stunning; the reader will feel as if she is literally sitting at Johnny and June's table or on their porch with them. The beginning of each chapter shares Carter-Cash family stories with the reader that pertain to the recipes included in that chapter. The chapters are organized well with an easy to use layout. Each chapter is peppered with Carter-Cash family photos.

There are all the usual suspects for chapters: Breakfast, lunch, dinner, dessert but then, there is a chapter on world cuisine which includes recipes for paella, plantains, and Italian pasta sauce. This was a welcome sight. Additionally there is a chapter where famous friends of Johnny and June's share their favorite recipes and memories. This may have been my favorite chapter.

As far as it goes as a cookbook, I think it holds its own in the genre. The recipes are easy to follow and make use of accessible ingredients to most home cooks. Quirkily, the reader will learn that the Carter-Cash family preferred walnuts where most southerners would make use of pecans! :)

A fun read and well worth it for any southern home cook or fan of Johnny Cash or June Carter.

I recieved an early copy of this book from the publisher. The book is already available for preorder and will officially be published at the end of this month.

This cooking book will be loved by all fans of the Cash-family. It doesn't only contain a ton of family recipes, but also pictures and notes from family members and friends of Johnny and June. It is more of a coffe table book than a cooking book, because you'd rather have your friends see it than getting it covered in grease and flour. :)

My favourite recipe is Rosanne Cash's potato salad, btw.

This is a cookbook and not what one would normally sit down to read. However, there are some stories of the Cash’s family life and dinners they had with various celebrities. It’s worth the read. And there are some great looking recipes I look forward to trying.

Heartfelt stories, beautiful photos of food, and many recipes marked for me to make! Being from South Carolina, it was so comforting to see many familiar foods. Made me a little homesick for grits and more!

Several old favorites were included with delicious updates and additions -- like chicken salad with walnuts and green grapes. (No I am not adding any onions.) I love the photos and the fried baloney and egg hint -- knick the edges of the balcony so it doesn't curl.

I'm not a big Johnny Cash fan but the cover looked interesting so I picked it up and I was pleasantly surprised by how this book captured a different approach to cooking and it was nice to read the different recipes.
