North Carolina, The Tar Heel State, 28th largest state in the United States, and became the 12th state in November 21, 1789. The state gem is the emerald, Pepsi Cola and Krispy Kreme Doughnuts got their start in NC, and Julianne Moore was born there. They boast of their barbeques, Kitty Hawk, and Research Triangle.
