Rafael, the most buff billionaire bachelor in California's wine country, bears the nickname "Ogre." He lives alone in a castle on the cliff. He's shut down, and he denies his aching desires. Until he's forced to find a bride. Due to reader request, this standalone novella now has a sequel, The Ogre's Bride. Fiery Bess owns the town's popular bakery, but she's in the red. And she's good at keeping men at bay. One divorce down, no more to go. When the mysterious, muscular rancher makes a rare trip to town, she can't resist taking a close look at the big, scary man. With no courtship skills and a desperate deadline to take a bride or lose everything, Rafael comes on strong. Not the best move with a tough woman who swore off men. Still, he's got a big lasso and a lot of charm. This standalone novella is a high-heat read for adventurous readers 18+. It includes fantasy fulfillment and isn't intended to be taken too seriously. The author does not condone taking a bride via abduction... all characters consented to having this much fun. Come along for the friction and sparks as Bess battles disbelief in the ogre prince to get a fairy tale HEA. This had all kinds of thought provoking material, besides being hot. Do we indeed reincarnate? Do we have more power than our normal senses? What happens between two people is theirs alone, no place for society or people to condemn or praise. I would have liked more detail on Rafael's background. He was so sure of Bess being his and that intrigued me. Enjoyed reading this very much. I wasn't enthralled with Bess as she flip flopped more than I liked. I got her indecision after the first time. It does leave you wanting more.
Rafael is unlike other characters I've read. A strong Alpha / dominant man, with reasons for his actions, he seems to have a sixth sense, at least when it comes to Bess, and he knows the town Bakery owner has had her eye on him, so why not respond???
Bess's concerns about things that sound too good to be true are all too easy to understand, Rafael on the other hand is a man of mystery, and with each mystery we solve, he becomes even more lovable.
The book started out really good than it went to the left in my opinion all of a sudden it seem Rafael was slow misunderstood, yet he was a billionaire, the the author I guess decided she wanted a little kinkiness in the book but was afraid to write it, why tie Bess up and than have regular sex with her and when did she put on jeans? When she hopped the gate she had on a skirt and heels
I had such high hopes when I read the book blurb on Amazon. But I was sorely disappointed. The story skipped around and was so unrealistic that I just threw my hands up and shook my head. I honestly felt like the writer my have been on some serious meds when penning this one. Maybe less meds and a course in creative writing would benefit the author.
I liked Recluse Rancher. Give me an HEA with some hot scenes and I'm on board. I'm getting used to the short reads where everything happens so fast but I do wish for more. Without giving away spoilers I'll just say, I want to know if all the plans come together, a bit more about how the future looks for Bess & Rafael. A few minor editing misses but I was able to figure it out & keep going.
I chose the rating for the quirky, olden/modern day fairytale like theme for a man raised in isolation with gifts passed down through his family with an almost rigid up bringing. A woman never good enough for her mother who married a self absorbed and controlling man she was finally freed from. These two had to push beyond their protective walls to get their happily ever after.
I chose to read and review this book. I am a fan of this author and enjoy his work a lot. As always it is very steamy and sexy. Everything is well written. I liked how the characters interact together. I enjoy the sweetness and sexiness of each chapter and age. It kept me glued to it like his other work. I can't wait for the new ones. I recommend this one and the rest.
Great book! I love how both Bess and Rafael have quite old fashioned values! The chemistry between them is super hot! The unusual psychic element gives a very intriguing twist to this off but appealing romance. I hope we will get more of Bess and Rafaels story!
There was really no substance here. It was choppy and really unfocused. Not much made sense. Thankfully it was too short to worry about trying to get engrossed in. Still wouldn't bother wasting even a short time on it.
This was more then the run of the mill romance novel. Really had to concentrate at times with the characters but still felt shortchanged that i needed more. Would love to see the story continue.
I like the characters and I like the plot. After the first time of proposing to keep his ranch then the changed. Seemed more like an erotic book than one about loving the rancher
Oh, to be lassoed by a hot cowboy! Yes, this was definitely a hot and steamy read. I was a bit dubious about Rafael’s turn around in his motive for wanting to marry Bess and he was a bit inconsistent in his “dominance”, begging Bess when he should have swept her off her feet from the start, but when he was bad, he was really, really bad. Oh yeah 😊 Despite her insecurities, I loved that Bess wouldn’t be pushed around and resisted Rafael’s advances until she was sure of his intentions. The supernatural or psychic element was intriguing and added an interesting twist, giving a whole new meaning to the fulfilment of hidden desires.
