After his lover was murdered, Rai swore off all romantic involvements. Will that now keep him from claiming his future?

Demon Rai Brethor is a loner. Centuries after the murder of his lover, he's made a life for himself in the mortal world. After bodies begin to appear on the beach bordering his home, he suspects the goddess he'd previously shunned is responsible. When he meets the man investigating the crimes, Rai must overcome the desire and attraction the handsome cop stirs within him.

Police Corporal Jensen Bennet has made solving murders a personal challenge. As the body count piles up at the feet of the elusive and enigmatic Rai Brethor, he begins to dig deeper into the man's mysterious background. Attraction to his prime suspect makes his job even more difficult.

Nothing will prepare either of them for the truth. Nor will they truly understand why their meeting is so important. Can an immortal demon and a mortal cop find middle ground, or will the war building within the immortal realms destroy any chance they have for a happily ever after?

A good paranormal book with little sex and some romance.
Most of this one is about a building war between the good and bad factions. The other half of this tale is about Rai and his healing heart. The main character is Rai. He is demon and a good guy.
He lost is lover many years ago and has retreated the human realm.
This a is by no means a mushy romance. Then in walks Jensen, a human cop trying to solve some murders that are related to things he doesn't understand. So Rai and Jensen have a common drive to do good and are attracted to each other. Some sparks and wings fly.

There is lots of different paranormal types along with God's and goddess. They are more ruthless and mean. Which is what I found very interesting and entertaining. I haven't read the previous books in this series. Didn't find anything lacking, quite the opposite. I am waiting for more now. War is looming. Gotta see some battles.
A good fun and fast paced read.

It was an interesting story but should not be read as a standalone since other characters from the previous books make an appearance in this one and it can get confusing with all the names floating around. I haven't read the other books in the series and this is the first book I've read by this author. While intrigued about how the war would turn out I don't think I'll be going back to read the other books in the series since it's already so far along.

Rai has abandoned his home and demon world for the mortal world after the death of his lover centuries ago. In his new life he is content to work in the film industry with humans, jog and offer prayers to the goddess who offered him support after the death of his lover. But his life becomes a bit more complicated when dead bodies start turning up on the beach near his home. Rai becomes the number one suspect and the investigator in charge is determined to find out what secrets Rai hides. It doesn't help that both feel an attraction for each other.

This is a slow burn romance. There isn't very much relationship development. Rai and Jensen are attracted to each other but don't act on it until the very end of the story. Their is a lot of tension between them and a lot time in the book is spent on Jensen trying to figure out what Rai is and how he is involved in his murder case. He disregards and doesn't believe anything Rai tells him because it is too farfetched which could be a bit frustrating even though there was a ton of proof just popping up for Jensen to witness.

I enjoyed getting to know Rai, the world he came from and the characters that showed up whom were trying to sway him to the cause. The situation with Khazi? (too lazy to find the ebook and open it up), Rai's ex-mate was bittersweet and I wished the situation had been different.

An ARC was provided to me in exchange for an honest review.
