You can't hide from the past forever. Sometimes it comes back to bite you. Twenty-five years ago Christine tried to spare Magni the pain she saw in his future even though it meant he would never be hers. He didn't listen. Now she carries a burden no one else can see and that he refused to hear. The truth of what happened to his wife. **** Magni is a bitter man. And it's his own damn fault. He lost his wife and cut off the only person who ever put his own happiness before theirs. For years he's tried to spare Christine the reminder that he exists, hoping to ease the pain and guilt he put on her in a moment of weakness. But it's been hard. And he's tired of pretending he doesn't want her.
Can Magni right his wrongs and make Christine his? Or is his future as unfinished as his past?
I live in southern Ohio with three kids, nine chickens, four ducks, two dogs, a guinea pig, a gecko, and one very patient husband. I write romance of all shapes and sizes and there's nothing I love more than a redeemed bad boy. Unless it's a grumpy redeemed bad boy.
Book two in The Big series is good. I love how the storyline continues to evolve with each book. I loved Christine and Magni’s chemistry and past. Looking forward to reading book three.
so it did leave on a cliffhanger but it isn't a cliffie for Christine and Magni, its one for this strange continuing story that's going throughout this series.
I assumed Christine was older but she isn't. so there is an age gap between Magni and herself. she was in love with him at 15 and he was married. obviously Christine has psychic abilities and when she was younger she tried to warn Magni about some bad things and things went bad and she decided to not share her ability. present time, 25 yrs later has her avoiding Magni because of the secrets of the past and of course they don't stay secret.
there are many things are going in in this story... Christine is struggling with a health issue. she hiding so many secrets. now dealing with her and Magni having to spend time together. Rhea (from book one with Hagen) involves herself since she has empath abilities. and her and Christine have become very close.
she wants to be with Magni but doesn't. she holds her abilities back from everyone. she hates when Magni treats her gentle and tries to be what she deserves. stomps out on him multiple times before or during sexy time or potential sexy time. runs away from him but wants him. I. GOT. WHIPLASH. then she breaks up with him before she runs away to the hospital for surgery. ugh. doesn't want to touch the furniture he makes to avoid getting any of his visions. it was sad In the beginning but then it just got annoying. And then when I was rooting for her over grumpy Magni....I started rooting for him and found myself annoyed at Christine. he put himself out there for her 1000% and she just was bananas.
I wanted to finish because of the other stories threaded inbetween....and I'm excited about Kari's story next & obviously Jerrik too so I'm continuing the series but I am glad I'm finished with this one.
my eyes were scanning the words fast each time she was too much in her own head.
Magni is about two older characters, one in his 50's and the women 12 years younger. Christine is the female lead she has loved Magni (male lead) for years. It started as a school girl crush but transformed into more as she grew older. Magni was married to who he thought was the love of his life but that won't be the case. This story is about second chances and listening to your heart. So much happens in Magni that I don't want to give too much away. The author does a great job by adding more and more to give mystery surrounding the storyline. Whiteaker also doesn't reveal all the juicy details.. which makes you wanna see what happens next. In a paranormal world set in the middle of the mountains you will fall for these characters and cheer for them to defeat evil and get an HEA. The author does a great job of my making you feel all the angst and fear just by the conversations from the characters on what's happening. This is the second book of this series and I wouldn't read Magni without reading Hagan book one. The storyline continues from book one to book two plus the author doesn't repeat much of what happened in book one. She only refers to a certain situation but doesn't go into detail. In my opinion this book shouldn't be read before book one. I highly recommend this series if you like paranormal, humor, characters that are a little crazy, a good mystery and twists you didnt see coming then one click Hagan and begin the journey with the residents of Greenlea!! Happy Reading
This is the second book in a shifter series. The first one (Hagen) was amazing. I did not think it could get any better. Then I read Magni. I could not put it down. Her characters are so believable even when it is not possible. She has more books scheduled to come out in this series in the next couple of months and I can't wait. If you love a good romance like I do or if you love paranormal situations, or both, I truly think you should read this series. You won't be disappointed. I know I wasn't.
I am ready to read more by this author. If you have not read her, check her out.
If possible, I liked this second book more than the first. It is as if the book had a soul, I think the author excels in this genre. Magni and Christine are such complex and complete characters that it is impossible not to fall in love with them. And with respect to the "non-ordinary" facts... they are described in such a simple and natural way that they even seem ordinary. There is no information bombardment, nor thousands of names and facts that confuse and distract. It's perfect!
I loved this book. I loved Magni's character and Christine. Both made mistakes. Both had preconceived notions of the other person. It's a shame they took so long to come together as a couple but it was beautiful when they did. I always enjoy books where the two main characters are older as well. Being in my mid-30s, it's nice to change it up from the "young" romances.
I loved the original book, it’s exactly the same as I remember, reading 2 years ago. Now under the new title. Magni has a park past his wife disappeared one day and many folks in town suspected he had something to with her mysterious disappearance. However a teenager girl Christine has a gift of premonition and tried to warm him those 20 years ago weeks before Lori disappeared. Christine knows the truth of the matter and Magni never wanted to here it. But magi & Christine are linked forever by a dark past and an ever darker destiny but if they can Learn to trust each other and trust themselves they can both find the happiness that neither of them think they deserve. Magni is the uncle of Hagen & Jerik they all share a secret that holds this town together a connection to an elusive giant beast that roams the mountains. And a dark spiritual presence. This is the new “big” series has now become a connected spin off. I honestly feel author should have kept original title. Secrets of mountain men, could mean anything at all, BIG 🦶 FOOT talks you exactly what to expect from this series! It’s a paranormal Romance, not a murder mystery or a regular troupe. Magni and his family have a “BIG” secret a big foot 🦶 secret. Their tiny town is becoming a ghost town. Not enough work, jobs and everyone is either leaving or scraping hard to eek out a living. So Magni & family let secrets out that the town of Greenlea, West Virginia may be home to the elusive Bigfoot hiding out in the Appalachian mountain ranges particularly the blue ridge section of their section of home. So when Bigfoot hunters come looking for proof they give them subtle tiny taste of hints that it does reside to bring in tourist. After Rhea & bbf Stewart convince Chauncey a wealthy man desperate for fame attention and more money than sense. Come out to share their Bigfoot hunting with Chauncey’s 15 million followers. Things are going great on the town now a new drove of Bigfoot seekers are coming in waves and the town is prosperous but there is still a dark cloud looming in the forest and someone is casting evil dark magic and sacrificing animals to lure evil. While Magni & his nefews try to find the culprit before the sadist killer graduates from sacrificing animals to humans, Magni must contend his dark past with Christine their secrets, guilt and lies have caught up with them. And when several certain person’s just show up in town out of nowhere Magni must face his future head on along with confronting his feeling for Christine who is no longer a love sick teenage girl rolling him around like a puppy dog! Magni has stay far away from Christine for far too long and truths lies and guilt must be confronted before anyone can even think of ridding the forest of evil! Destiny will always have its own way. In books within this series Hagen his brother Jerick & their uncle Magni will be faced with their inner monsters and face off with their deepest fears (themselves) and the women who love them. They will meet others like them along they way who also endure their own cursed monsters within big 🦶
The story was good but I had issues with both Christine and Magni.
Christine’s entire life after the age of 15 is one of pure martyrdom. It drives me up the wall when one of the main characters break it off for their loved one’s “own good”. The paragraphs and paragraphs of inner dialogue explaining her ridiculous reasons for breaking Magni’s heart “for his own good” were tedious and annoying.
Magni finds out he has a son he doesn’t know about, then what does he do? He pretty much goes about his life, only meeting up with his son a couple of times days later in the barroom. The. Bar. Room! The only other times he sees Joel on page is when Magni goes AWOL and Joel helps his cousins find him and when he accompanies Magni so he can meet up with Christine the morning of her surgery. He never even hugs his son. What the hell? I know Magni is supposed to be this hard-ass but he’s not that way with Christine, so to know he’s that way with Joel is very disappointing.
And what about Lori? What the hell happened to her? Is she still in town? Did she just disappear off of the face of the earth? What happened with that part of the story?

As a teen, clairvoyant Christine was in love with Lori’s husband, Magni Wolffensen and he worshiped her. When Christine told Magni she had a vision he would lose Lori, Magni berated Christine making her swear she’d never speak of his future again. Hurt, Christine agreed and avoided Magni for 25 years whenever possible, though it didn’t ease her feelings for him.
When a stranger arrives and pays more attention to Christine than Magni wants, Magni kisses Christine in the town square causing a variety of reactions. Christine’s flustered; Magni’s family is angry and the stranger chuckles as Christine and Magni mince toward a relationship change! Meanwhile, someone’s using animals in ritual sacrifices in the nearby woods, plus; the rest of the prophecy Magni didn’t want to hear comes to fruition, filling Christine with guilt.
To this reader’s taste, Christine was too annoying (and out of character) over the last 20% of the read and there ‘should’ve’ been a resolution for Lori’s character, otherwise why have her, it was an irritating loose thread to an overall good read. Rating: 4.25stars
Magni and Christine have a past. Problems occur because Christine has visions just like Rhea (Hagen's mate), but these visions are much more intense. Magni lost his wife years ago, Christine sees it in a vision and tries to warn him, but he yells at her and tells her off. So over many years they don't speak. Christine now has some potentially bad medical issues but doesn't tell any family or friends what's happening to her, and then keeps pushing everyone away. Through the years no one can deny Magni and Christine have an undeniable attraction! But they just sort of put up with each from a distance. A love to hate sort of relationship! He decides enough is enough as it's getting tougher and tougher to stay away. Our story has to deal with many things such as tragedy, drama, the truth, plus acknowledging their love before finally deciding to be together. A great follow up book, and would definitely recommend.
When I read the first book in the series I wasn't sure if I would like this type of book but I am so glad I continued to read it. I was sucked right in with this family and in Yearning the mystery and the challenges Christine had to over come plus opening up and letting people in. I cried through the last three chapters. Can't wait to see what Claiming has to offer.
This has been a great series so far. Kind of a story within a story. Reminds me a little of some of Nora Robert's trilogies - the meeting up of 2 people but all six are needed to defeat the evil. I like that Magni and Christine are older characters.
My serious series addiction continues... Yearning Magni and Christine offer a fresh take on grumpy sunshine. Years of silence and secrets stand between this couple and their HEA. Meddling family, a health scare, some intrigue, a little magic, a pinch of forced proximity, and a lot of growly steam add up to a whole lot to love about this book!
I love a grumpy man and a strong woman. There is nothing better than two strong-willed people butting heads and falling in love. I can't wait to see what happens next.
4.5* I really like this series so far. Christine and Magni have a ton of serious history. Twenty five years worth of heavy history. Things are about to come to light that will chance everything. This s book is full of humor and emotions. Looking forward to Kari and Lance’s book.
I loved this so much. Janice Whitaker is an evil genius. I got hooked into this book and the rest of the series. I binge read this series in just a few days.
The story was good but I had issues with both Christine and Magni.

Magni has been running for 25 years… He lost everything the day his wife died but he won’t ever stop looking for her. They presume she is dead but her body was never found.
Christine’s gift is a curse. For 25 years she has kept this secret but only because he didn’t want to hear it. For 25 years he kept his distance.
Christine knew the truth but couldn’t tell him.
There are things happening that no one can explain. An evil force is at work…. They all need to be aware and work together.
Truths and secrets are revealed… The unknown is all consuming. Christine knows what awaits them but she cannot reveal anything just yet. All she can do is prepare for what lays beyond the trees…
Awesome read… Great character build up! The strong alpha male who will dominate and take what is his… the soft and gently hand of a woman who will in turn love him unconditionally.
I cannot wait to read the next book in this series. I love HEA’s!!!

Magni and Christine have a history and not a very pleasant one because Christine has an ability to see visions just like Rhea (Hagen's mate), but Christine's visions are more intense. Magni lost his wife years ago and Christine saw it in a vision and she tried to warn him about it but he yelled at her told her off and since she hasn't really been acknowledging her abilities. Christine is going through some medical issues and because of them she keeps everyone including her friends at a distance afraid to show weakness and afraid it will just interfere with their lives. Magni and Christine have undeniable chemistry yet she doesn't want to be close to anyone but Magni has set his sights on her and wants to claim her as his mate. These two had a great back and forth banter, tragedy, drama, and love to deal with but when they decide to be together they handle all these things together. Another great alpha, growly, Bigfoot male trying to find his mate.
What a conundrum! Finding how to balance your feelings with your own arrogance in thinking you know what's best is ALWAYS so dang frustrating. To experience and to read about! But fortunately, this author gave her H/h a chance to actually communicate. This made the story so much better than it would be if she had drug out the misunderstandings. Gotta go read the next one!
I want to love these stories but the constant inner turmoil and dialogue is too much. There are so many inconsistencies and unresolved characters, like "Lori" just disappeared from the story. And they really go 25 years avoiding each other and then all of a sudden BOOM, all that's resolved over some lights. If I can get them free on BookBub I will read them but if I can't then I won't!!!
I super enjoyed this book. Having everything a paranormal romance should.Build up and sexual tension in all the interactions. Strong heroes and even stronger women. But know that book 3 and 4 are not available any where to read. It is out of print, and I have had no luck finding it in any used book store.
I liked the first book and waited with delight for the Magni story, which was frankly disappointing. I did not expect after the first book Christine to be depicted as wimpy, avoiding and weak character.
