Tantalus #3

Hunter's Challenge

Rate this book
Listening Length: 9 hours and 21 minutes

The Sociopath, who has been wrongly labeled ‘the witch hunter’, is focusing on those who have psychic powers. He has challenged the wrong people, though he doesn’t seem to realize it. He has issued an edict to the Tantalarians, demanding that they bow to his will. That will never happen.

One Tantalarian, in particular, feels he has an axe to grind with this 'witch hunter'. The man has mentally attacked him, singled out the woman he has chosen for his future mate for extermination or worse. He will not rest until his foe is dead, the game lines have been drawn, the war is on. He might be new to this form of fighting, for he is young, but he knows how to protect his own. He has nothing to lose but his life, for until the one he loves is safe from the madman, he will cling to nothing.

Adele, a young Earthling, has connected with one of the Phoenixes and bears it’s protection. The bonding between them is bringing changes, both mentally and physically that no one expected. She has also fallen in love with the young Tantalarian Hunter, Terec.

Adele, agrees with Terec's decision to go after the ‘witch hunter’, but has other ideas when it comes to his other plans. She knows how dangerous his plans are, but not his real reasons. As she prepares to fight at the side of the man she loves, she can only wonder, who will win, and who will lose?

M.A. did it again. She continues to create amazing worlds for a reader to get lost in while enjoying the escape from reality.
I'm going to admit, I was NOT a Cara fan for awhile. I found it REALLY hard to like her, even a little bit. By the end though, I warmed to her a touch and actually felt bad for her.
I look forward to what M.A. will come up with next in the Tantalus series.

Hunter’s Challenge by M.A. Abraham is the 3rd book in her Tantalus series. A brief refresher of the premise of Tantalus: This is a Sci-Fi story about two species (Humans & Tantalarians) that are forced to work together on the planet Tantalus. In the first book, Noah’s Arc brought thousands of humans to land safely on Tantalus, as they learned all about their new planet & their hosts, who look human, but they do have wings. In the second book, the villain (witch hunter) was introduced and in Hunter’s Challenge, he is the focus of this story.

We get to meet all the characters we have met before, but Terec is our hero. The rulers of Tantalus recognize that Terec is not only a good hunter, but very smart and savvy. When the Witch Hunter has his eye on Adele, our heroine, and the human girl that Terec is falling for, he will do everything in his power to find a way to destroy this evil and powerful madman. The Witch Hunter wants to absorb the powers of those with psychic powers, as well as take over the body of the young hunter. Will Terec be able to stop the Witch Hunter? Can he survive?

Adele was a very good heroine, especially in the face of her body changing into a strong woman similar to the Tantalus females who have been chosen Tantalus by the Phoenixes, who protect them and Tantalus. Adele must deal with her changes, as she is now growing wings, and deal with her burning lust for Terec (Phoenixes push those boundaries into their chosen female).

It will be Terec who will convince Michel and the tribunes to work with his idea to catch the Witch Hunter. I do not want to give spoilers. The final half of the book was very exciting, with lots of action and suspense. The romance between Terec and Adele was very well done.

M.A. Abraham has once again given us an exciting and tense story of the two species working together, to fight the evil villain and free those from the last ship from the villains mind control. I really enjoyed this story, and though the first two books were good; Hunter’s Challenge is the best one yet. Again, if you read this series, I do suggest you start with the first book to be able to understand this world. The end of the story, leaves a surprise twist that will have us waiting impatiently for the next book.

This is book #3 of the Tantalus Series and it's Terec & Adele's continuing story. Terec is a smart and far thinking Tantalarian who has come up with fantastic ideas that have so pleased The Tribunal and The Tribunal Elder. He has definitely earned their respect! Adele, even though she's a human has been selected by a Phoenix and is going through changes. This has been unheard of and quite a surprise to all. However, she and Terec are managing quite fantastically.

This story has so many surprises that you never see coming (Mary Ann is so good at doing this!) Keeps you on the edge of your seat from the start to finish. I'm so looking forward to the next adventure and I'm sure, more surprises. I highly recommend this book as well as the whole series. This book was given as a gift.

I was gifted this book in exchange for an honest unbiased review.

Let's just jump right into this review. For the past three books we have been anticipating the demise of the Witch Hunter. We all know that he's evil and we all know that he is up to no good however we have not really found out why he is doing what he does. Well we have in this book but before this book we didn't have any idea why he was doing any of the things he was. In this book things start to heat up tremendously.

Terec is someone that we met way back in First Contact. He did not have a major role then but we kind of figured that he would have a book eventually. The only thing is I didn't realize that he was going to play a major part in the demise of the Witch Hunter. But before we get into that let me backtrack just a tad bit.

The Witch Hunter decides to change up his MO just a bit. Up until this point he has been getting rid of people with psychic abilities. We still don't know why he's getting rid of people with psychic abilities but this isn't his first rodeo with committing genocide. We do get an explanation of who or rather what he is but we still don't understand what makes him tick.

Now let us get back to Terec and his romance with Adele. We all knew that him and Adele were mates and we knew that they were going to end up being together. Difference was that it would be a long road thanks to Adele's mother, Cara. That woman has irked me from the very first time I met her back in book one. She gives me this holier-than-thou vibe that I cannot deal with. I do understand that she is a single mother and her job is to protect her children but there is a difference between protecting and stiflingly and she stifles her children verses protecting them.

The romance between Adele and Terec was very sweet. One of the issues that I do have with Adele and it seems like all the other young girls within this is that they put themselves in situations to be harmed or get hurt. I cannot stand when a character is doing dumb stuff and it is blamed on youth tendencies. When I was a certain age I did not do certain things because I knew there would be consequences but yet these young girls don't realize that there are consequences and something bad might occur especially with the animosity between the new settlers and the Tantalrians.

There were a lot of twists and turns with in this book and I am all for that. People who I thought were gone forever are not so gone. The Witch Hunter is actually something that or someone that I never ever expected. The Tribunal has a ton of secrets that nobody knew about. I now know where they we're living when they decided to go away for centuries and it isn't what you think it is. I am looking forward to continuing the series and I cannot wait to see what happens.

M.A. Abraham has written an exhilarating tale of two species pulling together to eradicate an evil villain. The tension and suspense escalate, particularly in the final half. Witch Hunter is at the forefront and the main focus of this story. The intolerant madman, an unseen murderer of telepaths, was introduced in the last installment.

Terec and Adele are our hero and heroine. Terec, intelligent, and a canny hunter who is elected to hunt down the Witch Hunter. Adele, a human, chosen by a Phoenix, is going through a metamorphosis. She is becoming more like Tantalus females picked by the Phoenixes, this transition is unheard of and unprecedented. The romance between the two blooms, their love, devotion, and passion for one another is tangible. So, when the Witch Hunter's attention is caught by Adele, Terec vows do everything in his power to find a way to eradicate this malignant foe.

The storyline is utterly engaging, a roller coaster ride that will engross you from the very start to end. The final battle is fantastically done, you'll be on pins and needles anticipating the outcome. The surprise twist at the end will have us wanting to jump right into the next book.

The series is written so that each installment is interwoven, and the plots proceed to the ultimate conclusion. It's marvelous, enabling the readers/listeners to build a solid connection with all the characters. I suggest you start with the first book.

Brian Callanan emulates the emotions, animation, the suspense found in the pages, engulfing and fully immersing you in this story. He is just that brilliant. I absolutely relished his performance; he is an extraordinary narrator.

Hunter's Challenge is a gratifying story with the necessary ingredient, exceptional plot, marvelous characters, and impressive narration. I highly recommend the series.

This is the third book I’ve read/listened to by this author and I look forward to listening to more in this series. I enjoy the world MA Abraham has created. It is interesting and original, and makes me want to learn more about these societies.

The publishers summary does well to outline this book, so I will not say much, except… we learn who the Witch Hunter is! This book comes to a conclusion pertaining the main story thread common in the first three books. The end of this book brings up a new issue that is the lead into the next book(s).

This is the fifth book I’ve listened to by this narrator ( Brian Callanan ) and I would listen to another. He has become these characters and I am glad he has continued to read this series. I hope he continues to read the rest. He good at his job, and brings the stories he reads to life.

There are a couple passages with described sex, but it is very tastefully done. I despise romance novels yet Find these passages tolerable and in fact I think they fit in the story. There is some swearing by one character, but it is not excessive. There is no excessive violence.

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and voluntarily left this unbiased review.

Love this. Book 3 in the series. This will have you love how it continues from the end of book 2 . This story is full of myster and suspense . That will have you at the edge on your seat till the end . At the end of book 2 Terrc sees a ship under water Terrc is looking for the witch hunter that is hunting all the physic . Is there a reason why the hunter is doing it. Terric is starting to have strong feelings for Adele. They are getting closer every day .

Terrc is a special man He has a mind and body that is an honour to his people On the plant that the humans have now lived on for years now .
Because Adele has a strong bond to Terrc. Adele is human but she is slowly changing. She’s starting to grow wings like the people on Tatalalus. Because of Terrc and Adele feelings for each other the higher ups on Tantalus , the Phoenixs, want Adele to be strong Like the females that were born on the planet .
Terrc has an idea how to catch the witch , will he convince the higher ups of his plan. Will Adele help.

You don’t want to miss this

Brian has an amazing voice. He had a strong smooth clear voice. He brings the story to live

Reading this new instalment in the Tantalus series has been quite a roller coaster, as the Witch Hunter challenges the one he should not have. Does he lose? You'll have to read the story. I am happy with the outcome. - October 3, 2016

I thought when I read this story, that it was quite a roller coaster, but listening to it told by one of my fave voices, Mr. Callanan, who brings it to life vividly, his many voices unique to each character and reflecting his passion for the craft. The Witch Hunter challenges the one he should not have. Does he lose? I am happy with the outcome. Getting there is quite another story, Terec and Adele along with the inhabitants of Tantalus unite to fight an unseen foe and show us that despite their different backgrounds, love is possible. This series is getting better and better and I can't wait for the next one. - August 5, 2018
