In the dead of night, a decrepit, unmarked motor yacht drifts into the medieval port of Vernazza, Italy.
The run-down vessel forms a jarring contrast to the pastel colored tower homes and terraced vineyards surrounding the natural harbor along the coast of Cinque Terra.
Less than fifty yards away, a man wakes up on board a small rowboat, covered in blood.
Lying next to him is a woman with two – execution style – bullet holes to her forehead.
In his right hand he holds a small suitcase. Tucked into his pocket is a Russian built Makarov semiautomatic handgun – with two rounds missing.
Christopher Cartwright writes spellbinding mysteries and suspense novels. Often with a backdrop of ocean adventure. Born in 1983, he has a background as a paramedic, and is an avid sailor and SCUBA diver.
He holds degrees in paramedics, nursing and emergency management.
Chris currently lives in Sydney with his wife and two children.
I love all of Chris' books, but this one was not my favorite. I've never really been a fan of "memory loss" plots, so that may be my issue! As always, the characters are great!
Ghost Ship by Christopher Cartwright is a standalone listen and part of a series. This book has non-stop action, vivid imagery, twists and turns, plus a great storyline. The character of Sam Reilly is endearing, captivating, and resourceful. I love how the author meshes history with fiction, uses real places for the background, and keeps me riveted to the book. The descriptions of St. Petersburg brought back memories from being there. I so enjoyed this book and thought David Gilmore was perfect bringing the characters to life with his voice. He inflects the right emotions and gives the characters distinguishable voices, so one knows exactly who is speaking. I requested this book and have voluntarily written this review. I will definitely listen to more books by this author and narrator. I can't wait to listen to Sam's next adventure in Brazil looking for El Dorado.

Action and Adventure
Review:
This is book has everything a good action and adventure novel should have, plenty of action a mystery to solve, lots of suspense and a likeable hero. On top of that it’s well written and nicely paced; things happen fast and situations change quickly. . The book is nicely written and flows well, this made it very entertaining. The characters are interesting and their actions are well enough explained to fit the genre of the book. .Overall it’s entertaining and fun to read packed full of action.
This is book seventeen in the Sam Reilly series. Most books have a proper ending so they can be read as a standalone. That is also the case with this book
( Format : Audiobook ) "Who the hell were those people?" A man woke up with no idea of who he was, where he had come from, or why he was in a boat with a dead woman. But he had a small suitcase and a Russian handgun...
This, the 17th Sam Reilly adventure thriller can be read as a standalone but is better if read in sequence as the characters are built upon from the beginning. And every book has terrific characters. This time, Sam has to struggle not only to survive but to find himself, not knowing who he can trust. David Gilmore continues to narrate: he has become Sam Reilly, his slightly gruff voice perfectly attuned to the nature of these stories, and he gives separate voice to all of the protagonists as well as conveying emotion to the text.
My thanks to the rights holder of Ghost Ship who, at my request, freely gifted me with a complimentary copy. It's a fast action thriller adventure, visual and immaginative, and recommended to all who enjoy the genre.
Shades of Cussler's Oregon Files re the ghost ship. Sam Reilly awakens in a row boat minus oars and with a dead body off the coast of Italy. Total memory blackout and when he makes it to shore is in a fight for his life from snipers and chased by the police. He is carrying a brief case and in his run decides to hide it and then in his escape find his way to an empty apartment. When the owner returns he finds that she is a love from years earlier, but he has no memories of her. thus begins a hunt, chase and escape and hunt again with pushing the edge escapes as memories slowly return and he discovers his mission. Pulp fiction-ish escape reading that quickly passes the time.
Just finished reading ghost ship and I was hooked from chapter one. It was a surprise to find out that the man with memory loss was actually Sam himself. Still can't decide if Madame Secretary is good or bad for Sam's well-being as it's mostly her that sends him into these adventures. I love the fact that you never know where Sam is going to end up next or what he is going to be looking for. Whatever he does makes for fantastic reading, Keep writing Christopher.

The only thing to dislike about this book is I wanted more! This book, like the previous sixteen, leaves the reader wanting more! I’ve looked for his books at my local library site and was disappointed that the only place to find this author was on Amazon. Cartwright is an amazing author with a series that has well developed characters and plots. I look forward to reading the next book in Sam Reilly’s adventures.
The Ghost Ship, my seventeenth read from author Christopher Cartwright & the seventeenth book in the highly entertaining Sam Reilly series. A well-written rollicking thriller with captivating & well-developed main characters, probably the best in the series to date. Reminds me of the writings of Steve Berry, Dan Brown & James Rollins with shades of Jason Bourne in this book. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018).
Once again I am in love with Sam Reilly, however this is not one of my favorites I have to say . With Sam in his condition and the team in their situation it just didn’t feel right. The whole beat of the story was wrong, rather like a drummer playing with only one stick. Everything was just off. And I don’t much like Catarina, not sure why. Maybe because of the hole in their relationship. A good story but definitely not the best in the series.
Sam Reilly starts this adventure with amnesia and doesn't know who he is, or why he has woken up next to a dead body. As usual the plot goes into hyperdrive and before you know it, he is battling the russian mafia in a historic castle in Estonia.
It was good having a slightly different storyline (IE Sam not knowing who he is or what he can do) but in the end, he overcomes all the odds and wins.
I'll be the first to say how much I love the Sam Reilly series and Chris Cartwright is by far my favorite adventure writer! It is due to this great man that I took a journey out of my usual genre & I am proud to say I've never looked back. I have tried other adventure novels but none hold a candle to Chris Cartwright! Well done!
This was a quite different book to many of the others in the series as in the first instance there was little reference to the sea and diving in it. The other difference was that there seems to be in Sam an ethical ambivalence when it came to what some might do in the name of their Country - interesting. Perhaps this will be explored further
This one brings to mind a storyline from the Jason Bourne movie “THE BOURNE IDENTITY”… Drugs cause the main character to lose his memory, he’s involved with an international incident that leads to a lot of suspense and action. Overall it’s an interesting and entertaining story. RECOMMENDED
Cartwright's Sam Reilly is a good guy always in the wrong place. In this story, we get to see a new side of Sam that's even Sam doesn't know. My favorite part is there is no mention of the Matter Builders that seem to infect these stories. Mr. Cartwright, let it go!

Good, fast read for a hot summer day. Sam Reilly has lost his memory and bad guys are closing in. We get the clues as he gets the clues to his identity. Some humor. Very exciting read.
Well written, but the author's reach is beyond his grasp. He expands the storyline to the point that it it farfetched and too improbable to accept. The narrator has a tendency to be overly dramatic and cartoonist when speaking for some of the characters.
Audible:Sam wakes up in a boat.He doesn't know who he is ,where he is or who is trying to kill him.It could be anyone.A very good book. Wonderful narration by David Gilmore. I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.'
James Bond type character working for the government has another adventure. Glad the dog was on the ship. Beautiful women but this one his deceased brother's fiancee. Didn't care for that twist.
I really did not like this book. This book is the epitome of "everyone is trying to kill Sam Reilly." I thought the ending was soft and did not bring the events of the story together very well.
Sam Reilly loses his memory and is guided on this adventure by a long lost love. Who keeps betraying him, his life long friends, the Secretary of State or someone or something more sinister.
This Sam Reilly novel kept me on the edge of my seat. A great read
It was fun to see how Cartwright handled the main character being separated from his crew! It was also a wonderfully interesting prologue that hooked me right away. Overall a fun plot, and someone we meet in this book shows up again, which I liked a lot!
Action! Adventure! Exotic locales! High tech devices galore! Evil villains! Wealthy, skilled, powerful, heroic heroes and heroines and bad guys galore. What’s NOT to like!
I always enjoy the sam reilly books and seem to read them far too quickly. Hope that the next book will have more with the ship and the crew rather than sam alone.
Interesting story line with lots of action and intrigue. Great characters, great scenery development, fast movement of the story all make for a great read.
Easy read into the world of Sam Reilly. This is a series that should be read from the beginning as the author builds his stories on the previous novel.
