Hirohiko Araki ( 荒木飛呂彦) is a Japanese manga artist. He left school before graduation from Miyagi University of Education.
He enjoys the baseball manga Kyojin No Hoshii (Star of the Giants); the video games Mario Kart and Bomberman; and likes Prince and other African-American singers, as well as jazz, rock, and rap.
what in the holy snails did I just read? Very interesting. I'm still trying to wrap my head around what happened and what I read. Araki never leaves things easy to understand. There's always a struggle to see what he was trying to do. I thoroughly enjoyed this part. I thought bucciarati was hardcore zipping his heart, until Jolyne set herself on fire and made her body into a Mobius strip. Very bizarre just like all the other parts. I have heard that part 7 is a reboot, now I understand why. It's really cool that it actually makes sense plot wise. I'm very excited for this to get animated.
Let me ask you one thing, do you believe in gravity?

Using this edition to mark that I’ve completed Stone Ocean. I’m heartbroken, I came to love Jolyne so much, and I loved Jotaro even more than I did during parts 3 & 4. I’ll save the love letters, but I love the delinquent with a golden heart even more than I did before. Kindest, most selfless and gentle person, and his daughter inherited all of those qualities. While Araki is clearly more of a worldbuilder than he is concerned with characters, I think the most special thing about these universes are the characters that I have grown to love and cherish.
Before I start this review properly, I want to quickly confess my sins. You know, I want to go to heaven, after all. I haven't read any of the previous mangas.
I watched these videos from 'EyePatchWolf' and decided that, if I want to become a writer one day, I need to analyse the works of Araki one day. It was then that I defined I would watch Diamon is Unbreakable and see if I wanted to watch anything else.
Unfortunately, I've made a mistake and watched part five first. I loved Giorno a little too much and set to watch the whole thing from season one. I'm in the very end of Part 4 on Crunchyroll and reading Part 8 because I started it all wrong, and wrong I shall end it.
Oh, boy... maybe I'll stop being lazy and read the previous ones as well. Sins confessed.
I don't know if there is any absurd subtext. I'm not an intellectual, so I didn't quite get any. I heard there is. One day I'll be less of a dumb-dumb and get it. :p
THE GOOD
The protagonist. Joline is just awesome. After the initial confusion of being arrested, being dumped, being stung and given superpowers, she only grows better and better.
I'm also really happy to see that her powers didn't involve hair or plastic surgery. She wasn't super stereotypical lady, she was Jotaro's daughter. She's a very good and very competent person. She'll blow your mind at the end.
The characters. Hermes, Anasui, Weather Report, Emporio, F.F., even Pucci — not forgiving him or anything though —, are just too good. They each have their motivations and, ultimately, it sorta depends on going full "Ora" on the priest — which sounds much worse than it is —. They are not at all perfect, they feel very real — if you stretch the definition a bit —, having strengths and flaws balancing each other out.
A few notes on some of the characters.
Usually, a love interest would be very clichéd, but Anasui was so unconventional. The whole love-not-corresponded deal, his almost cartoonish behaviour, her horrible personality and scheming nature was very fun to read.
He lacks the understanding of what love is, the appropriate timing for proposing, and luck in general. I love him!
F.F.: best mass of killer planktons that sometimes possesses people. :D
Her struggles are similar to almost clichéd at this point "are robots people?", but she's a lot of planktons in a prison, given conscience by a priest, who assumes the identity of a prisoner. It's quite nuanced and her arch's conclusion is just amazing! I'm feeling some unnatural palpitations writing this. Love her!
Hérmes has a very interesting story. She's Joline's first friend and the reason she went to prison is... well... weird? I can't say much without spoiling a bit. I'll just say she's very strong, very loyal and a good person.
Weather Report has the best name. He's the weirdest power. He's the weirdest story. Well, Pucci has a very weird story too. I like him quite a lot, but I'll mention him later.
Pucci... Love Pucci! Hate Pucci!
The stands. I really like the stands in this part. They were very creative. I already was under the impression Araki did quite a lot of research, but that made it even clearer how crazy his browse history must be, and that he used dru—I mean, thought very hard on very mundane things to draw the most absurd ideas from them, like 's power, which both made me think "I wanna be like him when I grow up" and "how hard is it going to be to avoid a lawsuit when it's adapted to animé?". I really hope it is made into an animé. I loved them all!
The story. It was very dramatic, very entertaining, very funny, and, oh, that ending... Jesus Christ... Each character has a very compelling backstory. Hérmes' sister, Joline's set up, Pucci's birth, seminary time, meeting with a vampire. It's very odd how araki makes you like the people you ultimately most hate. A lot of mixed feelings.
There's even a moment in which one of the characters — finally — reacts accordingly to what's happening, by recognising how stupid absurd the situation was.
The author knows how to make the most absurd scenarios for his characters to deal with. This is one of the most absurd parts so far, in my opinion. And I think the reason you'd read JoJo's Bizarre Adventure is that you want to see some Jojos and some bizarre adventures.
The spoiler-free story:
A priest sets Joline up to go to prison so he can get her dad's stand and memory for him to reach heaven by following a vampire's convoluted plan... :)
Too many spoilers:
The ending. Oh, boy... First and foremost, congratulations Araki for being so bold and making me so bald, so much stress you caused me reading those final chapters... I am still in shock...
Just like this apocalypse through which we're going right now, it seems this ending didn't happen, that I dreamt about it and still have to see how it truly ends... but, just like the pandemic is very real, that's how it ends...
If you want to know how it ends:
Araki has been taking all the bald choices since Phantom Blood. Though the ending left me with a sour taste in my mouth, I wouldn't have given it five stars if it wasn't for it.
I was quite distraught when I thought Pucci's new universe was that of Part 7 and 8, but now that I've seen that it's not, I'm slightly less upset. But I'm still quite upset. He probably wanted strong emotions to be evoked and evoked they were. That's why I loved it.
THE BAD
It also has some stuff that I dislike. Though fewer, they are there.
Some attacks resolved in a contrived fashion. That bottle came from nowhere, I still don't understand how Survivor's user died; mostly things like that.
i really like this part of jojo's. i liked how most of this part takes place in a prison with jolyne and her friends tho the stand are pretty creative in this part and i like how jolyne always found a way to escape lie and death situations like how she had to fight all this cell mates that had gone insane due to the stand survivor and pucci the main antagonist i really enjoyed his stands white snake how he could take peoples abilities using disc and c moon how it could change the gravity and made in heaven it was very cool seeing him going at light speed and resetting the whole universe overall i really liked this part wasn't the best part but its very good
honestly might be my favourite part. bitter sweet ending imo, but so much was happening. it didn't feel difficult to follow like part 5. i feel like part 5 felt more random and i didn't find the boss to be as hype of a antagonist as in past parts. part 6 filled that void for me. such a work of art honestly.
Started reading this after the anime was announced for late 2021, and holy shit. I came in with the expectation that part 6 was just okay, and that part 7 was leagues better, but I was pleasantly surprised to find that part 6 is actually amazing.
Jolyne is a much stronger lead than the previous Jojo, Giorno, shes a lot like Josuke, a more laid-back comedic character, but she's not as silly as Joseph and she can kick serious ass just like Jotaro. Jolyne's identity as a Jojo isn't dictated by the fact that she's a woman, Araki just made an amazing character with all the best aspects of the previous Jojos and she just happens to be a girl. And her stand is so unique compared to the other Jojos, her string/unraveling ability gives her some exceptionally creative fights which shows us how smart Jolyne is, I cant wait to see her fights animated.
All the Jobros are also great, they each have interesting stand abilities, they're given awesome moments of their own, and they have an endearing dynamic with Jolyne, it makes you really believe that the group of characters in this part are truly friends. Foo fighters particularly is a highlight, and her scenes are probably some of the funniest moments in all of Jojo.
Didn't understand Pucci's motivation completely to be honest, but I liked how relentless he is in achieving his boyfriend's dream of attaining heaven. His stand white snake is also very thicc in some panels.
The art is crazy, the stand fights look visceral and they have this explosive energy to them, the latter half of the part especially has some insane concepts that I think will translate well to anime, and they will look amazing.
Overall it's terrific, I think I might just be a Jojo shill, can't wait for the anime.
Spending time with my family this summer, a disproportionate amount of it was spent watching JoJo's Bizarre Adventure. Over a couple months, we watched the first 4 parts in the English dub, and then I watched part 5 with subtitles (as it is not yet in available in English). Having exhausted the entirety of the anime, if I wanted to keep going, I had to switch format, and so I began reading the color manga version of Part 6: Stone Ocean.
It was great. Apart from the music and voice acting, this part has everything I love about the JoJo anime: rock music puns, crazy powers, combat in close quarters with cosmic consequences, and so on. Not having read the earlier parts, I don't know how the art compares, but the colored panels seem only steps away from a fully animated version. The poses and whooshing sound effects make the manga come alive, in a manner very similar to the anime.
I don't want to spoil any of it, so it's hard to talk about what I liked in this one. If you've read or watched the series up to this point, you probably don't need any encouragement to continue on to the next part. The ending felt a bit sudden, and I would have wanted it to keep going. Looking forward to Steel Ball Run and JoJolion! (Probably only after reading some actual novels...)
Stone Ocean follows Joylne Cujoh as she races against the clock to save her father from a madman while in prison, with the help of her fellow inmates. What a crazy sequence of events this turned out to be! Araki is truly a visual and creative genius. His ability to create and depict BIZARRE situations for our cast to get mixed up is what kept me engaged more than the story. As always, the stand abilities only get more creative with every chapter! I loved the main cast- Joylne, Hermes, Foo Fighter, Weather Report, Annasui and Emporio. it was refreshing to see the Joestar panache for action and adventure in a female character. Emporio was a personal favourite of mine because he seemed out of place and I liked how he is the one that saves the day in the end.
I know many people think part 6 is one of the worse in the series, but I have to disagree. From all the hate Stone Ocean gets from fans my expectations were lower compared to the other parts I’ve read, so I was very glad to find it was actually amazing. Let’s start out with the characters in the book. The first main female lead in all of JJBA is Jolyne Kujo, a convicted murder who grew up without her father around. Her father, Jotaro Kujo, is very different from his daughter Jolyne. Being the introvert he is, he leaves his family and divorces his wife so he can protect them from stand users. He leaves them in the dark about why he left so they don’t get caught up in the fight he has been fighting for about 25 years. When he walks back into Jolyne’s life she is filled with rage, until his stand gets captured and she has to get it back before he dies. Jolyne constantly has to power through situations like eating bread covered in roaches, fighting while on fire, and balances all these challenges while in prison. Showing that will power and determination can get you through any situation. At the end of the book they go to fight Pucci, the book's main villain, so they can save the world like Jotaro did 25 years ago. Ending up in a bittersweet victory, Emporio kills Pucci so he can no longer bother the world. In doing so, the universe and everything in it resets, except Emporio because he followed Pucci to the next universe. After defeating Pucci, Emporio meets up with Jolyne and everyone who died in the last universe. They have no memories of him of the previous universe, but offer him a ride because it starts to rain. Emporio saved his friends as well as the whole world, but at what cost. Carrying on the torch future generations is a conman them in JJBA, so this book just highlights it even more. I think this book is great for people who have read JJBA before, those who want an action filled adventure ,and ponder the importance of our actions. I don’t think kids below 12 should read this series because the subjects and language included in this book may not be suitable for them.

Pretty good overall. The change of scenery was nice, (It being set in a prison) but it was also somewhat restricting to the plot. I also liked the shift to the first woman protagonist. It's good to show a wide representation and the fact that she's a woman does not seem to hurt the part in any way. My one main criticism with the part would be the ending. Personally I think the JoJo should always be the one to beat the villain in their part. Now i know that technically Johnathan didn't beat Dio but as far as part one in concerned he did so in every part the JoJo was the one to get the last kill except for part 6. It wouldn't be as bad if it wan't a minor side character. Overall though besides the ending it is one of Araki's best!

Incredible. Araki, once again, failed to disappoint, despite what some fans of the series will have you believe. My personal guess is that people didn’t like that the main cast was largely female?? The characters were all beautifully written, and the fighting has never been. There was also something I found incredibly charming about the prison setting, despite the fact that some fans think that it suffers vein taking place almost exclusively in a prison. Also, I simply loved the friendship that Jolyne had with Ermes, and Foo Fighters. Enrico Pucci was also a great character. The only issue I have is that while some of the Stand abilities are really well thought out, I wished that Jolyne would be able to do more than just turn herself into a string.
My favourite Jojo so far I don't know why people say this is the weakest. Jolyne was a great character, Father Pucci is close to Kira as my favourite Jojo Villian. The adventures just become even more bizarre, it's hard to put Jojo into words. For me Jojo is in a league of its own, combining fashion, action and rich in pop culture references and the 'bizarre' situations that occur. It is honestly an acid trip except there's fight scenes, though the fight scenes are progressively more cerebral instead of shooty and stabby. Favourite Stand from this part is Bohemian Rhapsody.
I will say it's hard to find a place to read this in a decent format, if you need a repo give me a message.
Absolutely loved it, though the finale was so bittersweet all I could do was to stare at a wall for a good while and I'll forever wonder how life was for them after. There were a few moments where I thought it was dragging a bit, but other than that the relationships Jolyne had built and the insight into the characters was *chef's kiss*, especially FF learning to be human and the ending of their arc as well as how important Emporio turned out to be.
Definitely a very different, but a great addition to the Jojo's series. Then again, it is a Jojo manga, so I would only recommend reading this if you've read the others, because you'll know to expect the fun, lighthearted and constant action from the series. This part was up there with Stardust Crusaders as one of my favourites, which was well worth the 1600 page part length.
4.4 If I took all the time to rate each tome, it would take me hours. So this is an overall rating for part 6. This is a great part, Jolyne became one of my favorites and Pucci oh god, I loved him as the villain, the plot was great and the ending overwhelmed me, it was so different, but even better!
