*Highlander's Cursed Bride is a steamy Scottish historical romance novel of 80,000 words (around 400 pages). No cheating, no cliffhangers, lots of steam and a happy ending.

Mathew Hale👺, the Viscount of Tyrill, threw over the nearly defenseless Irish people for reward by the English King, George VII.
His excesses in drink and attempted seduction of a beautiful witch bring him nothing except three curses, which will cause him great personal despair over the remainder of his life.
The witch pronounces he is no longer in control of anyone's life but his own. Destiny cannot be changed!
Two of the prophesies are eventually fulfilled, and the Viscount👺 assumes the third prophecy will be his only daughter, Joan💃💋, being killed. He guards her relentlessly and keeps her nearly a prisoner in his estate🏰.
When Joan💃💋 runs off with Aidan🐺🍆⛲🔪, the Highlander Warrior and son of a laird, her father assumes she is kidnapped and will be killed, fulfilling the third prophecy.
The Viscount👺 is desperate to get her back, so desperate as to start a war with the Scots over it.
ARC Received from Bookfunnel🌀 I also got this ebook with KU.
This is a long, interesting book, but much of the dialogue and prose seemed somewhat juvenile. The English girl, Joan💃💋, was especially annoying and childish. Her running away causes some of the Viscount's men to be killed during their desperate search for her, yet she doesn't feel any remorse. There were also a number of continuity problems in the book.
How could an English lady meet a Scottish warrior in a small town?
She was always trapped within her father’s estate, but she was good at escaping. One day she met a Scottish lad and ran off with him, not knowing he was a warrior and the son of a Laird. When she found out he lied about who he was she went back to England. Due to the past, now a war was to break out. Could it be stopped?
This was a good story but a little deceiving. The bride was not cursed she seemed to have nine lives. But I do like how the English and Scots came together and it was through a woman!
A good story but the title was not accurate, It was the heroine’s father that had been cursed. The characters were intriguing and the storyline contained many twists and turns. Throughput the book there was lots of adventure and suspense.
Wonderful how love can stop a war. It took a long while to convince the Lairds to understand that too many lives depended on piece. In the long run it was finally understood. Especially when it involved English and Scottish Lairds.
Lydia Kendall is a wonderful writer and author. I have read several of her books in the past with four- and five-star ratings. This book however does not seem up to the same quality of her prior books. I will take it as an anomaly. There is definite room for improvement. The overall romance between a highlander and an English lady is a common theme. There were several elements thrown into the story that never made sense. First the curse on Joan's father, Matthew Hale, Viscount of Tyrill. Later in the story it seemed that one good witch was urging Matthew to flee. Then it appeared she was killed by the witch that cursed him. Where the good witch died, gold dust covered many flowers that Matthew gathered. They seemed magical and then nothing was said more about them. Matthew believed that two of the three curses has come to pass and he believed the third one was his daughter, Joan's life. After being kept in a gilded cage all her life by her father, she was desperate for freedom. From the introduction of Joan's character, she seemed too naive, immature and defiant against her father's wish to protect her. From what she did not know. After meeting Aidan McCabe, she finally found a friend. She ran away from home, talked Aidan into taking her to Scotland with him and the troubles began. Aidan and his best friend Ian were on a reconnaissance mission in England to prepare for a war. He and Ian went under the guise of traveling merchants. Aidan did not divulge to Joan what he was really doing in England thinking she may have them arrested, jailed and / or killed. When the three of them arrived at Aidan's clan, Joan was not accepted by his parents Laird of Leitan and his wife. Things just went downhill between Aidan and his parents as things warmed up romantically between Aidan and Joan. The addition of a mistress and a betrothed associated to Aidan in the story only confused me. There was no direction, rhyme or reason to some of their antics and how they were callously discarded by Aidan now that Joan was his love interest. Every time they were around he was not happy about it and at times right out angry at them. It seems to me if Aidan was a wonderful a hero as he ought to be, I just can't imagine him treating these women the way he did when they had done nothing against him prior to Joan's arrival. Joan finally found out about the lies or cover story Aidan perpetuated and she went back home. This was the last straw for her father. He got the local Duke on his side to wage war against Aidan and his clan. Joan realizing her folly for not hearing Aidan out and with the threat of war made her determined to once more escape and get back to Aidan to warn him and his people. But her priority was finding a way to stop the war and bring peace between these two neighbors. Aidan and Joan reconciled. They had the hardest time getting anyone to listen to them. Then they got a big break that brought to light why there was so much animosity between the two neighbors. I was not really impressed with the extended epilogue either. It lacked substance.
Joan Hale the daughter of Matthew Hale the Viscount of Tyrill had been kept in her father's house her whole life. She had no friends and knew no people in town. Her father occasionally louder out of the house and had on this day she escaped regards and they didn't get back to the manner until near dark. Her father forbid her leaving the house the reason whatsoever for the rest of the year. The festival was to be in town she begged him to let her go and he refused. Sebastian a good friend of her father's stuck her out the festival he met Scott named Aiden and he told her of all the travels he had done and she became infatuated with him. She continued to stick out of the house to meet with him until her father and Sir James caught her with him her father took her home and let the punishment of Aiden to Sir James who had him beaten. The next day Aiden and his friend Ian were getting ready to leave and return home when Joan run away from home and begged Aiden to take her with him Aiden was not going to take her and then changed his mind and took her. Now you need to read the rest of the book to find out about the Duke and the Earl and woman. It's a well written book. It's a good book...
Love this story about star-cross lovers. She is the sole child of an English Baron, who has not been outside of her home, since her father is protecting her life to the best of his ability. A curse was placed on him 21 years ago, due to an incident while he was drunk. He never tells her, so she feels unloved and a prisoner in her own home. He is the son of a Scottish Laird, who meets her accidentally in her village while spying on her father's defenses. They are also mortal enemies, but she is not aware of it. They are attracted to each other. He lies to her about everything, except about his deepening feelings. When the feisty and stubborn lady forces him to help her escape all hell breaks loose. Back in Scotland, she encounters hostility at first, but eventually, she is accepted, except for the Laird. A wonderful story of love built on lies and deceit. There's betrayal, vindictiveness, kidnapping, vengeance, and a huge war brewing between their 2 families. The lovers are doing everything they can to bring peace to their people, but are continually thwarted on all sides. Will they ever succeed? Will they ever be together without fear? Truly a wonderful story with lots of twists. A must read.
INCREDIBLY DELIGHTFUL!!! Hard on the heart! Lydia jumped right over gold in to platinum with this impressive storyline and electrifying plot that's as riveting as it is captivating. An amazing wild ride that keeps you on a razors edge and total focus as the pieces fall into place with such perfection it leaves you breathless. All the turmoil and distress running rampant feels as though you've been put through a shredder that leaves your heart in tatters. Twists and turns, along with a few bumps and bruises catapult this bad boy to life beautifully. All the drama, uncertainty, angst and suspense bring this baby together flawlessly. The characters are genuine, original and so realistic with depth and traits that blend and play off one another in a smooth flowing rhythm. The scenes are so graphic and detailed it paints a fantastic backdrop that really makes the storyline pop. Incredible job Lydia, thanks for sharing this little gem with us.
This is the story of Aiden & Joan. Aiden is to become Laird. Joan is the daughter of a Lord who had a curse put on him years ago. The story rings true to the book's title, or as the Lord had believed. This is a great and different story. Aiden and Joan meet when she sneaks out of the house with her father, The Lord's best friend to go to a festival. The problem is that he is Scottish and she is English. They go through a lot of trials and tribulations to get to the end of their story. This book has a great story line. You will enjoy it. I do recommend this book.
What an enjoyable read! The story has intriguing points and a the third curse to solve! It also has a scot and an English lady who fall in love in the middle of a on going feud between the Scottish town and the English town. Joan must face and make decisions once she escapes the house , the prison her father has been holding her in, as to what her future will be and with whom and where. There are laughs along the way as well as those Scottish squrimishes and of coarse a strong love between the two. A must read book.
Joan and Adian's story was okay and the overuse of the word “me" made him seem less intelligent than he actually was. I realize it was done to emphasize dialect but I believe that the author needed to do a bit more research concerning language use. They were 14th century Scottish people, not pirates. But, all that aside, I think this story dragged on way too long and could have been resolved a lot quicker than it was. I like a lot of action and suspense in the stories I read and this one just didn’t do it for me. I would give this a 3 star rating because it just didn’t hold my attention.
Another must read by Lydia Kendall who once again takes you back in time , weaving an intriguing and romantic love story. The descriptive writing and detailed scenes bring the story and characters to life along with the twists and turns, drama and suspense. Emotions flow throw the pages in this realistic story. I loved and highly recommend this book.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book. All opinions in this review are my own and freely given.
Well, this is a book that will keep you up late. It revs up early and keeps on going until the end. It is an adventurous story with creative twists and turns along the way. Sins of the father, familial overprotectiveness and rebellion spark war-like responses...begging the question, do parents really know what’s best for their children? Read and find out! This is one heck of a tale.
This was another interesting read by Lydia. Aiden and Joan are both trapped within their lives. With many twists and turns, they fight for what they want. I would recommend this book to anyone over18 interested in a good read. I received this ARC in exchange for a voluntary honest review which I have freely written here
