Photographing the Dead

Rate this book

A self-styled artist is getting away with murder in Death Valley. If all goes well, so will Nameless. In part two of the Nameless series, the relentless avenger is haunted by nightmares of the past and visions of what’s to come.

Palmer Oxenwald’s hunting ground is the Mojave wasteland. His victims are random tourists and hikers. His trophies are cherished photographs of the damage he’s done. His greatest threat is Nameless. Two men with one thing in common: memories of the dead. For a psychopath like Palmer, they’re a clear rush in black and white. For Nameless, they’re visions of violence buried and erased. But for how long?

From #1 New York Times bestselling author Dean Koontz comes Photographing the Dead, part of Nameless, a riveting collection of short stories about a vigilante nomad, stripped of his memories and commissioned to kill. Follow him in each story, which can be read or listened to in a single sitting.

Photographing the Dead (Nameless: Season One #2)
by Dean Koontz, Edoardo Ballerini (Narrator)

Following Nameless on another commission to rid the world of evil by making the predator pay in the worst of ways, we head to Death Valley. At the same time a pair of identical twins women are beginning a multiday hike. The predator is on the move, always needing to sate unquenchable thirsts.

I often have trouble with short stories because there isn't enough time to help me feel satisfied with what is happening but this six part series of short stories is really just one long story. Since they've all been published I don't have to wait for the next one to be published so it's like I'm getting to hear the entire book at once. I think only Nameless will carry over to the next story but I sure did like the twins in this story. Their dialogue was funny and I would have liked for them to be around longer.

This is the second audiobook in the six book series called Nameless that is available with a Kindle Unlimited subscription.

In the second short-story in the “Nameless” series, we have Nameless (a vigilante nomad) who is sent on missions by the mysterious Ace of Diamonds. This time, Nameless is after Palmer Oxenwald, a murderer who takes pictures of the people he has killed. Will Nameless take down the psychopath? I really enjoyed this fast-paced story. I liked what happened to Palmer in the end. I’m curious to find out more about Ace of Diamonds in future stories in this series. Nameless had some clairvoyant moments in this one as well. Another entertaining read by Dean Koontz.

This time Nameless goes by the name of Kenton Mallory. He's tracking down Palmer Oxenwald, a photographer being a sociopath inside. Palmer's true identity is "Death, Death incarnate, and Death has no illusions." He's the son of a rich politician and seems to be above the law. Nobody knows how evil this man is and what cruel deeds he already has committed. Except for Nameless. Another straight to the point investigation story with some eerie and supernatural elements. Who is Nameless and who sent him on those missions? Dean Koontz comes up with a novella that makes you want to devour more. Gripping series, gripping character. Highly recommended!

This is the second installment in this series. Nameless continues doing what he knows best as a vigilante. This time he is after psycho photographer who is targeting random tourists and hikers. This story was enjoyable too as the first one. Fast-paced and short too.

This story has still not given us any idea about the background of Nameless.

Another good installment in the Nameless series!

I have been enjoying these short stories in this collection. In fact, more then I thought I would!
There's not a dog in this one (ha!) but Dean Koontz does throw in a mountain lion for good measure.

Photographing the Dead is a twisted tale of a serial killer going after tourists and hikers in State or National Parks. After tracking them down and brutally killing them, he takes photographs of his trophies. He keeps the photographs to look back at and cherish over the years.

Yeah, he's the worst of the worst!
And the absolute worst part is he's unable to be stopped. He's rich, comes from a powerful family and no one has been able to catch this predator.
Until now...

Enter our favorite vigilante with amnesia, Nameless.
I really liked how this one ended. The justice behind it was just so satisfying!

Looking forward to moving on to the next short story in the series!

Another great installment in the Nameless series. I really enjoy these books. An unnamed man works for a secret agency and he is a vigilante, righting wrongs and seeking revenge on those who have done terrible crimes; the Avenger. This installment is about a successful photographer that hunts people in in Death Valley (so appropriate) then photographs them. The photographer is a master in disguise and very clever. I’m reading through this series. I love the twists in them and admit I’m a justice oriented person so love it when the score is settled.

This is the second short story that is part of a series by Dean Koontz and I believe it is only available through Amazon. In this one, Nameless (yeah that is his name) is sent out again to stop an evil sociopath. Once again, Nameless is backed by an organization that has fountains of knowledge and funds that the authorities do not have.

I have to say that I did enjoy this book much more than the first offering and now I am definitely intrigued by this series. The first book was set up as we get introduced to Nameless and his mission. With that out of the way for this story we dived right into the meat of it and I enjoyed it so much more. Part of the lure of these stories is Nameless and his backers. We really don't know much about them but that is the fun part of the mystery. How do they know all about these evil doers and what exactly is their purpose? The twist at the end of this story was terrific and put a smile on my face.

I wasn't really sold on this series after the first story. I am now with the completion of the second one. I want answers and I look forward to finding these answers in the upcoming stories.

4.5 stars! This one had a very fitting end, I was quite pleased. :) There's also a tiny peek into what I think *maybe* might a bit of Nameless's own past. We shall see.

Another excellent narration by Edoardo Ballerini, who is new to me as reader, but he sets the perfect tone for Nameless.

This one was just okay too. I think I am getting a bit disappointed since Nameless doesn't really need to go toe to toe with the bad guys. They end up caught, he with help disposes of them. We get some clues to his past in this one. I wish all of the bad guys didn't have some weird God complex. The first two in this series sound similar.

"Photographing the Dead" has Nameless hunting down another serial killer. This one gets off by photographing the men and women he comes across and kills. Nameless trails the killer and we also follow two young women who are set to be married in a few months. We have a sense that if Nameless doesn't stop the killer, these two women are going to be his next victims.

Well we get a better sense of Nameless in this one. He also appears to be a Paul Newman hater. For shame Nameless, for shame.

“Newman made a number of movies where he relied too much on his looks and charm. But he was sometimes great. You ever see Hud?”

He done lost his damn mind. Newman was a snack and he could act.

The mysterious Ace of Diamonds is still mysterious. I got nothing on this person or persons yet.

The two young women, Mia and Kara love to hike and are off hiking together prior to marrying. Of course they both carry weapons and know how to use them. That is me rolling my eyes. Koontz can never miss a chance to write about guns. I rolled my eyes reading about Nameless's gun of choice too.

The writing was okay, I got bored reading about how the serial killer had some pretty big connections. As I said above, the serial killer had a similar mindset to the last guy so I was just okay, you're super evil and superior too, got it. The flow was okay, this one was much shorter so maybe that had something to do with it.

I forgot to mention that in this one and last story had a pretty cool illustration. Other than that though, the series is already sounding samey. I wonder if we had a bunch of mystery/thriller authors try to write about Nameless this would be more interesting.

The ending is definitely a surprise, got to love how Ace of Diamonds wanted to take care of things. This story leaves things open to the fact that maybe Nameless is starting to remember some things.

Okay so I absolutely love Dean Koontz! His old stuff, his new stuff and everything in between. There's been only one book I didn't care for and now there is two. This one was just sloooow. I'm not giving up on this series though. The first book was intriguing so hopefully the next book's pace will pick up.

Love the second instalment of this series. So intrigued with Nameless, I wasn't to know his past and history but at the same time I don't. A man who gets sexual gratification by just simply looking at photos of the murders he has committed. Started of young with animals then gets institutionalized but by the time he's 18 he's released and continues his killing spree but has progressed to humans.

Getting better and better, folks!!
"Nameles" is indeed haunted by visions of the past, medial and psychic he is the perfect anti heroe for this fulminating fantastic series..

In this episode he must confront and face a dangerous and cunning mad man..
Insane and bloodthirsthy like a canal rat, Palmer Oxenwald search the Mojave wastelands for his new victims..
Only killing others can he sexually be satisfied!!
Come and see for yourself if you dare!!

But don't blame me if after reading this one, your nightmares will haunt you deep in the night!!!
I've warned you..

Happy reading..
Dean;)

This pulled me in as Nameless continued his drive for bestowing justice on killers and abusers in the most just manner.
I liked when some parts of his memories returned which gave me an idea of what could have been his personal life.
This book left me eager to get to book 3
A vigilante who was part psychic too

This second installment in Koontz' "Nameless" series is very good and even better than the first.

“The photographer had been trolling for victims in Death Valley. It is the nature of his evil that, once his appetite for murder has been aroused, he will become ever more ravenous until he has satisfied it.”
