While I may not be a vegetarian or vegan, I definitely appreciate the health benefits of a plant-based diet. There are so many nutrients that can be found in fruits, vegetables, legumes, and such. There are many mouth watering recipes in this cookbook from the simple to the more complex. There is a variety of cooking methods from no cooking to pressure cookers. There are appetizers, sides, main dishes, soups, salad dressings, and so much more. For anyone wanting to move towards a more plant based diet, this book will give you a great place to start.
The recipes seem easy to prepare and I might consider this a great introductory vegan cookbook for the novice home chef.
My sister who is a vegetarian is eyeing this cookbook and I need to keep an eye on it otherwise I think she will run off with it before I have a chance to try more dishes!
I received a copy of this beautiful cookbook as part of the ABRAMS Dinner Party. Thank you to ABRAMS for the opportunity!
First off, we are not vegans in this house but that doesn't mean that we don't eat veggie-centric meals multiple times a week. I immediately spotted a number of recipes in this book that I wanted to cook.
I love Caitlin! I’ve been watching her on YouTube for years. This cookbook offered much more than recipes. She has lots of tips, tricks, and how-to guides to support cooks of all skill levels. She explains how to make vegan cooking a long term habit and lifestyle. Each recipe has a robust description with helpful hints for prep. Of 100 recipes included, I have about 40 flagged with post-its as items I will definitely cook. All recipes are free of: gluten, oil, and refined sugar. I’m looking forward to the brownies, various sauces, chickpea burgers, and gazpacho!
I had high hopes for this one. I almost bought it without having looked inside it, but borrowed it from the library instead. I made many of the recipes and there were a few hits, but several flops. The rest weren't a struggle to eat, but I wouldn't bother making again. I have several more recipes that I want to try yet, before giving up and if they turn out well, I'll update.
Hearty, healthy, and fresh meals abound in this cookbook. Love that most of the recipes are under 30 minutes and don't require a laundry list of over processed foods. Want to try the green curry soup, lentil bolognese, and the fudgy tahini raspberry brownies recipes.

This is a good vegan cookbook, not stellar, at least not for me, but good. I do not mind giving it 4 stars, I just do not think it deserves 5. I did not find more than a very few recipes that I immediately thought, "WOW! I HAVE to make that!" The recipes are designer, and that might be why I did not enjoy it as much as other cookbooks - they are too designer for me. They are not super complex! I think many, MANY, people would enjoy them, they are just more than I want to do on a weeknight. That said, there are recipes that would appeal to everyone, from the comfort-style people to the, "I really like to cook food that looks magnificent!" people. I am more comfort-style. ;-) I am glad I have this cookbook in my collection. I do not regret purchasing it at all. :-)
I bought this cookbook on release because I am a big fan of her YouTube channel. I have made several recipes from it and I do not revisit them. I don’t even pull the book from the shelf anymore when I am meal planning. I liked the idea of the air fryer section especially but the recipes don’t really shine like I hoped they would. Maybe it is because I have been in the vegan game for decades and I have a regular roster of basics so there isn’t anything here that jumped in front of those options and many of the things here fall into that category. If you are newbie vegan, it might help to give you a jump start on finding your own vegan basics.
I really enjoyed reading this cookbook. The recipes are made without gluten, refined sugar, or oil. She also has write-ups about how to make your food look pretty, low-waste kitchen hacks, how to save money eating plants, and how to have the best morning ever. Her recipes don't require lots of exotic ingredients. I marked many (40+) that I for sure want to try! The photos are phenomenal. The entire book is printed on glossy, thick paper. Beautiful book to have in my library of plant-based cookbooks!
Lovely book with easy recipes, a great introduction, and good substitutions. I have been reading a lot of vegan cookbooks and I find her recipes to be some of the more straightforward and delicious (after trying many from her blog/youtube channel). She does use several alternate flours because she prefers to be gluten free- but I have had success with subs on those. I actually bought this book (versus getting it from the library) so that is high praise from me! :-)
I have been a fan of Caitlin for years and I am so happy she has a cookbook! The cookbook is absolutely beautiful, the pictures make me want to try everything! I love the short simple list of ingredients. Great cookbook for yourself or as a gift to those who are wanting to add more unprocessed foods into their life.
Excellent book for starting off the year eating healthier! I've watched Caitlin for years on YouTube and made many of her recipes from her blog. I only saw 2 repeated recipes (they happened to be 2 of my favorite) but all others were brand new. I can't wait to try them out. 10/10.
I'm not vegan and live with a sibling with a soy allergy (a staple of vegan cookbooks) so it takes a bit of effort for a vegan cookbook to impress me. This book has tasty, common ingredient recipes I was almost surprised I enjoyed. Has suggestions for alternate ingredients for the allergy prone.
Love this book - so many great recipes! I’m going to be cookin’ up a storm!! I love a cookbook with lots of photos and thus one definitely delivers! After reading it from cover to cover, it’s evident that these recipes are simple, healthy, and nutritious!!
Shoemaker's cookbook features a good selection of vegan recipes in a simple & straightforward format. Each recipe also has an accompanying photo making it easy to know what you are cooking. At the same time her recipes limit the amount of oil used for healthier cooking.
I have added several recipes from this book into my regular rotation. Especially the taco mac and cheese. If you do not follow Caitlin's blog there are a lot of recipes on the blog that I have also added into my rotation. They are easy recipes, inexpensive and the ingredients are easy to find.
Is it terrible to review a cookbook before you've made a recipe from it? I'm doing it anyway because I don't need to have made anything to know this cookbook rocks!! I received it in the mail today and promptly read through it all tonight! I'm so excited to make so many of these things! I've made plenty of meals from Caitlin already so I trust the cookbook recipes are going to be even better than the blog ones I've had!
I'm particularly excited to use this resource to introduce others to plant-based food 🤩
Update after making a few recipes: Still love it, but also a couple changes I would love to have seen: - a recipe index at the beginning. Each section is outlined, but to have each recipe within their broken down would have been nice. So nice that I may write it out for myself one of these days. - a more thorough index at the end. For example, it would be nice when you have extra of something to be able to look up and see how it can be used. Again, kinda tempted to spreadsheet this...
I love most of the recipes in this book! They are easy to adjust to your own preferences and have great flavour even if you follow the recipe just as is!
