Dot the dalmatian, who lives at a firehouse, accompanies the firefighters when they rush to a burning house, in a tale which includes fire safety tips at the back of the book.

Dot the firefighter is a great book to use when teaching community helpers, and especially about firefighters. The illustrations are colorful and attractive. The book is full of details of what a firefighter does and how their day looks like. The book is engaging and rich with vocabulary. I think children will love the book having the dog as a main character will catch children's interest.
The illustrations in the book are detailed and have a lot of contrast in them. The book gives a look into the life of a firefighter dog and firefighters. The vocabulary in the book is not too hard for children, also the book is not long so children will pay attention.
Gives an idea of what it’s like to live at the firehouse and to go in calls. Also includes fire safe tips. The illustrations are very nice. Overall nice read that will tick off a couple boxes popular with preschoolers (firefighters, dogs).
I'd like to use this book during Fire Safety month during my preschool and early elementary storytime classes. I like that it is showing the job mostly through the eyes of the dog.
The "Dot The Fire Dog" is the good book because its story apply to real life. Children can get new experience indirectly through this book. This book show what is the firefighter's job, and how they are processing until get emergency case. Children can get to knowlegde about firefighter's life through this book. This book very effective in children's lives.
Extension: Teacher and children have discussion about how can they prevent many accident from fire. Then, teacher will give the information about fire safety tips through this book. Teacher have to explain alternative methods if children hear the sound of fire alarm anywhere.
I enjoyed this book very much. It sowed that firefighters, and their dogs, are their to help us. I enjoyed how it showed an example of a daring rescue and that Dot even helped a kitten. I wish there had been for safety tips throughout the story but there were some listed in the back of the book. But these tips had no illustrations and were a bit boring for children. I loved the story and the illustrations. They were colorful and added to the story but were were simple to leave some room for the imagination.
I was looking for a pets related book for my preschool pets unit, but I would say this book is more for a community helpers unit or a fire safety unit. It's a great book and the dog is lovely. The story shows what the dog's job is at the fire department along with firefighters and what they do. The illustrations seem to be paintings!! They're full of vibrant colors. The pages are real smooth almost like they were laminated but they are still flexible like regular book pages. Overall, great book.
This story is told by Dot, the fire dog. The story starts by giving a tour of the firehouse. Dot also shows us what the firefighters do when they are not answering an emergency. Then there is a small need for the firemen, and they're off in their shiny red truck. This would be a good book to prepare students for a field-trip to the fire station or just to talk about "hometown heroes". I recommend this book for prek through 2nd grade.
I'm pretty sure we've read most, if not all, of the "fire" books available in our local libraries. We now own two copies of this book, and the kids still pick it regularly as one of their library checkout choices. They apparently love it so much that each of them has to have a copy to hold at any point in time. The story is ok; the artwork is fantastic. I have no idea why my boys connect with this one so much, but they do!
It's fire safety week here, and my son came home from Kindergarten with this book he found at the library. I'm sure it was recommended. Anyway, the story is OK, but the back page is AWESOME for parents to teach their children about fire safety - a list of tips of things to do if there is a fire. So for that it's getting 5 stars.
Dot the fire dog lives in the firehouse and sleeps by the firefighters big rubber boots. Dot wears a helmet just like a fireman and Dot is a hero! Descriptive text and corresponding pictures make this book good for new readers.
I like this book because it explains what happens at the fire station when there is an emergency. Although it's a cool book to read, children can learn something new that may be important. This can be a teachable moment where you discuss saftey rules and what to do in an emergency.
Dot is a dalmatian that lives with a fire crew. This book captures the day-to-day life of a fire crew, and the excitement of hearing the alarm bell and racing off to a fire with simple text and big beautiful illustrations - all featuring Dot.
This book has colorful illustrations that highlight the life of a fire dog and living in a fire house. The book shows what happens when the alarm goes off and the rescue begins. It also includes fire safety tips at the end.
Dot the fire dog is an essential component of the firehouse. She lives and works with the men and women in the station. A toddler approved book. I loved the page of safety tips in the back and that women and men were both represented in the firehouse.
