Wild Spirit

Rate this book
Letting go isn’t the same thing as losing control.

If things were different, maybe dominant Leo could date the woman he’s suddenly longing for, his free-spirited friend, Yvonne. For her, life is an adventure; for him, it’s all about work and keeping things simple so he can focus on his son.

When a tragic event upends Leo’s orderly existence, he’s forced to admit he can’t do it all, and he can’t do it alone. Yvonne feels like exactly what Leo doesn’t need.

Until that first touch. That first kiss. That first steamy night when he finds his perfect submissive.

But she doesn’t fit in his well-ordered world, so he can’t ask her to stay. Can he?

Surprisingly, Wild Spirit has become my favorite Wilder Irish books. Leo and Yvonne were so perfect, had so much of a history that you knew that the friends to lovers story was going to be resplendent. And, I loved how the story started so that we understood the history and the love.

Leo. One of the most responsible, loving men that I have read in a long time. He knew how to love and, when he did, he loved long and hard. His first responsibility is to Vince, Clint and Ryder … his second responsibility is his family. A devoted dad and son, he didn’t have much time to be devoted to himself. Until a certain someone crashed back into his life and started teaching him about just how great his life could be.

Yvonne is a whirlwind. She fell in love with Leo when she was a teenager and he always had a special place in her heart. She hated that he refused to take time for himself, to ask for help when he so desperately needed it. It’s time that she stepped in and opened his eyes to the world beyond Vince, Clint and Ryder. It’s time to teach him a few Collins lessons. Maybe it’s time for her to admit to her feelings that she’s had forever.

I loved how this story went. From the devoted family man to the man who realized that the person he needed the most was standing right in front of him, Leo’s transformation was wonderful. Mari Carr really did a fantastic job in making us understand his feelings, his way of thinking and why he felt the way he did. She also showed us the Collins’ spirit and determination in bringing life and love into other peoples lives. The children were so well written … typical teen and pre-teens with hormones and all … you had to love them.

From devastation to determination. From defeat to victory. Mari Carr brought two wonderful people to life in Wild Spirit and gave them a beautiful story filled with love, laughter and PopPop.

I love anything that Mari Carr writes. That's why I was anxiously awaiting her newest book, Wild Spirit. Wild Spirt is another story in the Wilder Irish series that focuses on the Collins family. This is Yvonne's story.

Yvonne has had a crush on Leo since she was a teenager. But Leo had eyes for another girl. Yvonne felt destined to forever be in the friend zone. Leo made plans to marry that girl but it turned out that she was pregnant and she didn't feel the same about Leo. Leo still vowed to be a part of his son's life. To Leo, life is all about working hard to help his family farm and to support his son. He sees Yvonne often and wishes he could have a relationship with her but he holds fast to his other responsibilities.

Yvonne loves life. She works hard helping to cook for her family's restaurant and bar. She sees Leo often and wishes she could play a bigger part in his and his son's life. When tragedy strikes Leo, Yvonne jumps in to help. Leo may insist that he can do it all on his own but Yvonne knows that sometimes people just need a helping hand.

As their friendship grows, can it evolve into more or will continued tragedy drive Leo further away? Wild Spirit is part of a series but it can be read by itself. But I'm sure you'll love it so much that you'll go back and read the other stories.

Another amazing example of a love built around the Collins family! All of the stories in the Wild(er) Irish series have focused heavily around the strong family bond, and emotional support, of the Collins family, and this story is one of my favorite so far! Leo and Yvonne are absolutely perfect for each other, they just had to figure that out for themselves!

Yvonne has a great family, an amazing childhood, and a job she adores. Her life is almost perfect. Except she has feelings for her best friend, that she doesn't think could possible go anywhere. Until things start to creep into unknown territory, and she begins to wonder if he could possibly feel the same thing for her.

Leo's life is one day of stress after another. Single father-hood, helping run a family arm, and all of the day to day drama that comes with those things makes him a man on the edge. Until his best friend decides to help him learn to cut loose, and lose the stress. Until he starts to look at her just a bit differently, and he has to decide what that means for them!

I loved Yvonne and Leo! They were fun, energetic, and I couldn't help but enjoy their antics. Even tough it seemed like everything was working against them, I just knew they had a magical HEA in store for them. This is a book that was as fun as it was romantic, and it was exactly what I needed! While it was plenty romantic (and extremely HOT!) there were also plenty of laughs, and (as always) the antics of the Collins never disappoint!

Wild Spirit is part of Mari Carr's Wilder Irish series, set in the Collins family universe in Baltimore. It's a fantastic friends-to-lovers story, about Yvonne Collins and Leo Watson. Leo is a year older than Yvonne, and became good friends first with her cousins Lochlan and Colm when he moved to their high school, and then Yvonne. While Yvonne had a huge crush on Leo then, Pop-Pop's advice helps her focus on their friendship, and the blessing that is to them both.

More than a decade later, that friendship has held them in good stead. Leo's life has been a bit of a roller coaster ride, and the responsibilities just keep stacking up. Yvonne can see the toll it's taking on him, and determines that it's her job as a friend to remind him how to relax, the Collins way. Along the way, that long dormant crush reawakens, and it's a real pleasure to see Leo and Yvonne negotiate the changes to their relationship as it takes on new direction and depths.

Mari Carr does an incredible job of letting us get to know Yvonne and Leo, and those close to them. We get to see their comfortable and comforting friendship as well as the chemistry that explodes as they take a chance on more. Yvonne's a smart, generous, determined woman and a loving friend. Her steady care for Leo gives him the freedom to enjoy their bond and explore the possibilities of MORE. Leo's no dummy either. He's a loving father, devoted son, and takes each of his responsibilities seriously. When he able to cut loose though? Let's just say that Vonnie's fortunate to be on the receiving end of that deliciously focused attention.

Wild Spirit is a sweet romance with plenty of heat. It's the perfect addition to the Wilder Irish series, and a great prompt to re-read this warm, funny, sexy series again!

Once again Mari Carr gives us a glimpse of life among the large Collins family. Pop Pop is still giving out advice in the beginning of the story to 14 year old Yvonne who has a crush on her cousin's friend Leo. She hoped he would ask her to the dance but he asked someone else and Yvonne's young heart is broken. Her grandfather suggests that being friends with Leo is better so Yvonne chooses that path. Leo's life becomes more complicated as the years go by and he continues to shoulder more and more responsibility. Yvonne remains his friend and worries about him wearing himself out and not asking for help. She tries to help him by teaching him the Collins' way of handling life. Will Yvonne find that she still has that crush on Leo? And that it might be stronger after 12 years? What about Leo? Is he seeing Yvonne as more than a friend? It's a captivating story that grabs you from the first page!

Eighth book in the Wilder Irish series, this series is a spin-off of the Wild Irish series. Can be read and enjoyed as stand-alone, told in dual POV with HEA. This big awesome family owns and operates a pub, so the secondary characters are throughout the series. I love how the Collins clan is so loving and has an abundance of advice. Yvonne has been crushing on Leo sense she was 14, but the timing has never been right. Her Pop Pop’s long-ago advice has her glad for her 15-year friendship with Leo, even though she still dreams of more. Leo’s life is full of chaos, but Yvonne is teaching him how to live like a “Collins”. Great friends to lovers’ story! I love and highly recommend this series!

I am such a huge fan of this series. Each time a new book is released, I feel like it is the best one yet. Therefore it was no surprise to me that after reading Wild Spirit, it became my new favorite. Yvonne and Leo's story was not only hot, but so romantic. Yvonne is a free spirit who helps everyone she knows, including Leo. While she has long had a crush on him, Leo just realizes how much he needs Yvonne in his life. Not only did I love their story, but I love how Mari Carr continues to weave the rest of the family into this series. I truly enjoy reading about the other family members and how they interact with one another. As anxious as I am for the rest of the books in this series to come out, I don't want to rush them. I will hate when this series ends!!!

SERIOUSLY DESERVES like 100 STARS!!! I LOVE MARI CARR and I LOVE THIS SERIES! Wild Spirit stole my heart. From (as always) the start with Pop Pop and the Collins "star" of the story or the amazing Collins clan, the chemistry you feel from the start between the hero and the heroine and of course...my other favorite...the end with Pop Pop and his new pictures. And let me tell you...whew is Leo one hot alpha who really likes to give directions!!! WOWZA hot hot hot and to Vonnie (Yvonne) who gives as good as she takes. I seriously don't want these stories to ever ever end! (AND....do I sense a happy new beginning for my beloved Padrig?)

I loved Wild Spirit by author Mari Carr so much and I loved Leo and Yvonne together. I love how the story begins with Pop Pop and Yvonne which was a heartwarming scene. I really enjoyed how Leo and Yvonne’s relationship developed from friendship to lovers. I loved Yvonne’s fun, sassy and caring personality and she was the perfect woman for Leo. It was great to see that underneath all that seriousness lay a man with one helluva kinky side. The sex scenes were smokin’ hot just how I like them. I really enjoyed Yvonne’s interaction with Leo’s son Vince and his brother Clint and the joy she brought to their lives. Another wonderful story in one of my favorite series.

Wild Spirit is the eighth book in the Wilder series and as usual Mari Carr has hit it out of the park. There’s no slowing down with this series and it gets better with every book added to it. Who wouldn’t love the Collins’ clan and all that comes with it?

Wild Spirit was the story of Yvonne and Leo. They have been friends forever but something changes and they now have a chance at happily ever after and they go for it. Both of these characters were so refreshing and this story was fun in a lot of ways. I can’t see what’s next for this series. I received this book in exchange for an honest review.

I anxiously wait for every book in this amazing series written by Mari Carr and Wild Spirit is truly heartwarming.
When someone starts a relationship with a single parent sometimes the effects on the child are put on the back burning but in the case of Mari Carr - she brings those issues to the forefront in this book.
I loved every minute of this book. Yvonne is so perfect for Leo, too bad it took him so long to see what was in front of his eyes. But as they say: Good things come to those who wait.
Cant wait for Finn's book.
I wonder what is happening w Padraig and lady at the bar and why do I have a feeling that Colm will end up with Kelly?

Vonnie has been in love with Leo forever. Leo had eyes for another woman though. After she ends up pregnant, they marry. Leo soon realized that the relationship is all one sided. Through a series of events, Vonnie and Leo end up together. Mari Carr blows me out if the water with everything she writes. Just when I think her current couple is my favorite, she introduced us to another family member. I must say, Vinnie and Leo's story is one of my favorites. I highly recommend this story.

Yvonne and Leo were a breath of fresh air!

Friends forever, all it took was one little nudge, and the chemistry between them exploded, and they both were onboard with it. Life kept throwing one thing after another at Leo, but that seemed to be the pattern in his life. Both were willing to push against that rising tide of responsibilities and timing that seemed destined to keep them apart. A few set-backs along the way, but patience and persistence paid off. One thing that couldn’t be denied, Leo needed his Vonnie in his life to keep things free and wild!

4.5 stars - another fantastic entry to the Wilder Irish series. I loved the strong foundation that came from Leo and Yvonne’s friendship of over a decade, and the relationship Yvonne had with Leo’s son Vince. Mari Carr has a talent for creating unconventional families that add an extra component to the story and I especially enjoyed seeing the dynamics in Leo’s family situation. As always, the secondary characters in this series are well fleshed-out and the use of Pop Pop-centric stories in both the Prologue and Epilogue give the story a well-rounded feel.

Mari Carr has a way of writing so that you are engrossed in all of the feels. I love the Collins clan. They are a very entertaining large family. Vonnie is a wild spirit. Leo may be just the man to take her on. Friends to lovers is one of my favorite tropes. Wild Spirit is a beautiful story about that. It was fun, sexy, and sweet! I couldn’t put the book down. I can’t wait for the next Wilder Irish.

I thought this was a very relatable story. Sometimes you have to force yourself to relax. And what better way to do that, than with a Collins? Great writing, great chemistry, and a great love story.

Wild Spirit: A Single Dad Romance
Wilder Irish, Book 8
By: Mari Carr
Narrated by: Lee Daniels, Connor Brown

OK, I have a new favorite Collins family story! This one captured my heart from the very start! Mari Carr has me so invested in this family, and I live to hear the advice from Poppop! He is the absolute best! Yvonne has been in love with Leo since she is fourteen. The older man he was at the time didn't see her as a woman, and he was in love with his girlfriend. Friends is all they could be. As the years went by, their friendship grew and when tragedy struck Leo, Yvonne was there. All the support she gives, all the time and advise, she still has a love for the man. Leo has had it tough. A single dad, he finds himself making everyone else happy. Taking care of his son and his brother, running the farm for his family, he has little time to devote to his own happiness. Until Yvonne shows him there can be. But will he take it? I was immediately smitten with Leo. I love a man who puts his family first, and boy has this man made sacrifices. Yvonne proves to be a strong and loving woman, always there when he needs her. Frustrated? Yes, I was at times. In love? Absolutely! Taking Poppop's advice? Well, some was good. This is a fantastic listen and has my full heart!

Connor Brown and Lee Daniels continue their narration of the series and their chemistry together bring this couple off the charts. Brown plays the broody, tragic, dad perfectly. He holds a lot in, but his love is not an emotion he can easily hide. Brown pulls it off with ease. Daniels is amazing as Yvonne. Bubbly at times, concerned, even pushy when needed, she finds each inflection to make Yvonne real. I enjoyed this one!

This is book 8 in Carr's Wilder Irish but can easily be read / listened to as a standalone. I adored this read / listen. Dual narration by Lee Daniels and Connor Brown was perfection for our main characters Leo and Yvonne. A friendship that has spanned years and a crush that was put on the back burner, This single dad, friends to lovers listen will captivate and give you all the feels. I love the sense of family that Carr writes from both our main characters, and I adore Pop-pop and his ever words of wisdom. Great twists in the dynamic between these two and how families come in all shapes and sizes when you put the priorities where they should be. I loved this book from start to finish and I can't wait for more Wilder Irish / Connor family romance!

This book was given to me for free at my request and I voluntarily provided this review.

Friends to lovers romance

No plot spoilers.
No potential triggers.
Aimed at an adult audience so there are some sex scenes, D/s based, each of them appropriate and loving.
There is sometimes swearing.
The Collins family storyline continues with Yvonne's story and I loved it.
The plotline was straightforward, no twists and turns, the are characters are well written, rounded and believable.
There are no grammatical errors or editorial bombs apart from a couple of missed words such as 'to' etc, certainly not enough to detract from the storyline.
Maybe get the proof reader back on track?
Anyhooose, love the book and would recommend.

Brilliant dual narration from Lee Daniels and Connor Brown, who bring out the characters, action, steam and plot.

Yvonne and Leo have known each other since childhood.

Leo has been taking care of his son. He finds himself over his head. Chaos is something he can not tolerated. Until Yvonne teaches him chaos isn’t all that bad and that letting go can be fun.

Yvonne has had a thing for Leo since she was a teenager. But he was in love with someone else, so she never acted on it. But remained his friend through out the entire time and has been there when Leo has needed her. Finally she gets a chance to act on her feelings, Can no chaos Leo feel the same.

Having been friends since they were kids, Leo had no idea Yvonne has been crushing on him ever since. They always remained friends even though Leo was with someone else and had a child. When he became a single parent, Yvonne became an even bigger part of his and his son's life. Leo and Yvonne give into their attraction and begin to date. Things seem to be going well for them until one day Leo feels his son is upset about him and Yvonne, he breaks things off with her. Will a misunderstanding keep Leo and Yvonne from finding their HEA.

A great story about family, friendship and love. Great narrators.
