Death at an antiques show has this fashion designer turned amateur sleuth on the case again...

When Maddie Springer—shoe designer turned amateur sleuth—tags along with her mother to the Antiques Extravaganza road show, the last thing she expects to have to do is pull her mom off of a celebrity appraiser after he calls her prized antique hatpin a phony. But things go from harried to homicide when the same appraiser is found dead just moments later—killed by Mom's hatpin! Now not even Maddie's husband, LAPD Detective Jack Ramirez, can save Mom as the force's two most bumbling detectives are assigned to the case. As if Maddie doesn't have enough on her plate, her best friends, Dana and Marco, enlist her help to plan the most over-the-top Hollywood surprise party ever for Dana's fiancé (who has a little surprise of his own up his sleeve), Maddie's adorable twin toddlers are always up to no good, and the only thing that can calm her fashion-challenged and suddenly-a-suspect mom down are aura cleansing from her favorite Venice Beach psychic, Mrs. Rosenblatt. Whether they help or hurt, Maddie's friends assist her in wading through a slew of murder suspects—none of whom are telling the truth and all of whom have ample motive to want the appraiser dead. Was it the frigid business partner with questionable ethics? The clown-collecting fan-turned-stalker? The auction house owner with a grudge? Or was the appraiser's real business something much more sinister than his TV personality let on…and much more deadly? Maddie and her eccentric gang of unlikely sleuths are under the gun to find out before the real killer strikes again…and Mom takes the fall!

I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy from the Great Escapes Book Tours. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.Suspect in High Heels by Gemma Halliday is a fast-paced, hilarious whodunit. The mystery unravels with Maddie and Dana doing the funniest things to get to the truth.
An antique hatpin and Maddie's mom are wrapped up in a murder? Will Maddie figure it out before the murderer strikes again?
Maddie Springer
Maddie is our sleuth. She tries to hide her investigation from her husband, LAPD detective, Jack Ramirez, but her friends are prepared to assist her. Maddie won't allow her Mom to go to jail for something that she didn't do. In the process, Maddie, with the help of Dana and Marco, dive into the world of antiques, and auction houses. They learn more about the trade then any of them wanted to learn.

Jack and Maddie have these adorable two-year-old twins. The twins hide cell phones in the darnedest places and have food fights at the craziest times. It was a perfect mesh with the other eccentric characters running amok throughout the story.

I like Maddie; she is down to earth with a touch of high maintenance crazy. I would be friends with her, and I might even babysit for her (maybe).
Suspect in High Heels CRThe Mystery
I enjoyed the way that Ms. Halliday lays out the clues and all the subplots that also help keep it going. The detectives assigned to this murder are nicknamed" Laurel and Hardy." They proved their nickname was correct every time they tried to use their cellphones for notes, pictures, or to make a call. I seriously wonder how those two still have jobs. I also liked the way characters from past books were brought back for a brief moment.
Surprise Ending
I won't tell you much about this, but it's adorable and that one should never underestimate the power of a couple.
Four Stars
Suspect in High Heels by Gemma Halliday is a fantastic read. I enjoyed the humor, family, friendships, and of course, the mystery. Seriously, the things that people will do to help their family. I am giving it four stars and recommending it to all you cozy readers out there.

Maddie Springer Ramirez is one of my all time favorite characters and High Heels mysteries is one of my most favorite series. I was so bummed when the series stopped in 2015. Being an author myself I know how another series or book can be a shiny new object and you just have to go with it, but as a reader--well there are characters you just want to keep going.

I love all of Halliday's High Heels characters. Each is unique with their own, generally very human, quirks. I can totally picture them, especially Mrs. Rosenblatt and Maddie's mom. Ramirez is just....well if he were read I wish I could wake up to him every morning. Dana and Marco just add to the fun in the series.

Even though a character or characters are killed, Halliday treats her readers to some chuckles and light hearted humor throughout the story. I hope we don't have to wait another 5 years for another High Heels mystery!

Enjoyable mystery, though it was a tad on the simple side.

While there was not a lot more character development, we did get some progress on some ongoing relationships. All in all, an enjoyable read.

The fun with Maddie continues!

Just when I thought this series came to a close, I was pleasantly surprised to see that Maddie's adventures continues! Maddie attends an Antiques Roadshow-like event with her mom to get some items appraised. Little did they know that the expert appraiser would be so rude and callous ... and later end up dead, with Maddie's mom as the prime suspect. Of course, Maddie must clear her mom's name.

It was fun to revisit with Maddie, Ramirez and Dana. The twins are growing up so fast! I hope this series continues. It's one of my favorites from this author.

I received an ARC from the publisher for purposes of an unbiased review.

Maddie Springer is up in arms when her mom is accused of killing an antiques dealer appraiser who called her antique hat pin junk. Everything is fun when Maddie and her friends are around. Not to mention her beautiful twin toddlers. I got warm fuzzies each and every time the twins were around. This is a terrific book and fabulous series.

Loved this book. First one I have read in this series, but will definitely go back and read them all. The protagonist is a working mom with a police officer husband, who live in LA. When her mom becomes a suspect in a murder investigation, she attempts to help discover who the real murderer is. She’s a strong woman who cares deeply for her family and friends. This book contains humor, drama and intrigue.

This book was kind of meh for me. I didn't like the place (selling antiques) and the story was too long without much evolving. Also, the situations that Maddie got into were sort of 'artificial'. And the end was also quite weak.

I enjoyed reading it at the beginning and was curious what could have happened, but later on it was slowing down and I finished the book only because I like the rest of the series. I hope that the #11 will be better.

I enjoyed this book but did have to question why it took so long for them to work out what the murder victim was really up to? The killer was still a surprise though until a few minutes before they revealed themselves. Still a humorous romp and a fun read with all the wackiness going on. I liked the characters but wish the twins were in it more because they had me chuckling every time they were present. I liked that despite going in dangerous situations or questioning suspects most of the time Maddie took a sidekick with her, very unusual. It's quite often the sidekick that makes the story (in my opinion) and with this series the author has hit on several to keep the story funny and the heroine on her toes. I can't wait to jump into the next adventure and might even have to look in to collecting the audio books.
With the Antiques Extravaganza road show in town Maddie finds herself attending with her mother and her mother's best friend. What she didn't count on was her mother getting into a fight with the appraiser, when he tells her antique hatpin was a fake. Even with all the celebrities and cameras at the show, nobody catches the appraiser getting killed. Stabbed with a hatpin making Maddie's mother the number one suspect. With Maddie's husband too close to the main suspect he is taken off the case and it's up to Maddie to find the real killer before her mother is arrested. There seems plenty of suspects because he up set a lot of people but can she come up with the motive, as well as the evidence?

Antiques and Murder

This was a good story with lots of angst and trouble for Maddie. This time, she has to figure out how to prove that her mother is innocent in the death of a local antiques dealer. Maddie’s police detective husband wants her far away from this investigation, but that doesn’t happen. With the help of her friends, Dana and Marco, they look into various antique dealers and the things that go on behind the scenes—not all of it above board.

Maddie and her husband Jack have two-year-old twins who keep them running. I laughed at the antics of the boy who plays a game of “hide the cell phone” - which causes problems for everyone.

Maddie manages to get herself in serious trouble as she hunts down the real killer, but eventually, she does win (thanks to her best friend, Dana).

A fun addition to the series.

Recommended.

Halliday has come a long way in writing this series. The beginning novels I was "eh" about due to the same storyline, being annoyed by Maddie's actions, etc. But as it went on, Halliday changed it up a little here and a little there and now I look forward to reading the novels in this series.

Especially to see which "reality" we explore with Maddie. From baseball beauty pageants and this time antiques and auctions.

I still wanted to smack Marco for his inability to not listen to his clients ideas for a party, even when they are your friends.

I also did not think the murderer was the character who it turned out to be.

One of my favorite cozy mystery book series is Gemma Halliday's High Heels Mysteries. It originally caught my eye from an email I received from BookBub.com. The first five books could be bought in a bundle for the amount of 99 cents, and the synopsis included a description of the main character being a fashion designer for shoes. After reading the first book in the series, Spying in High Heels (High Heels Mysteries, #1) , I was hooked. When I heard that the latest edition, Suspect in High Heels (High Heels Mysteries, #10), was coming out on October 1, 2019, I could hardly wait.

Suspect in High Heels (High Heels Mysteries, #10) exceeded my expectations. Both of the people I suspected of being the killer (one more than the other) were not the killer. Usually one of the people I suspect is correct, but I definitely was in the wrong this time. I love the main character, Maddie Springer, and how she always seems to get herself in trouble and that her husband is so forgiving of her getting so entangled in these cases. Although, he is never happy about it at the time.

I'm not sure what it is about this series, but Gemma Halliday always sucks me into these books. They are always an enjoyable read, and I always have trouble putting it down. Every time a new edition comes out in the High Heels Mysteries, I say it is my new favorite in the series, and I can honestly say that yet again with the latest installment. I never want this series to end!

If you're looking for a great book to read during your next vacation, then I definitely recommend Suspect in High Heels (High Heels Mysteries, #10) by Gemma Halliday. I gave it five out five stars.

Synopsis of Suspect in High Heels:  When a celebrity appraiser at the is found murdered at the "Antiques Extravaganza" that Maddie Springer is attending with her mother, Maddie finds her smack dab in the middle of the investigation when she is trying to clear her mother's good name of being accused of the death.

The mystery we must solve along with Maddie is who killed antiques appraiser Carrington. With husband, Jack, off the case and her mom on the hook, Maddie is going to pull out all the stops to get to the real culprit. I think we get quite a few viable suspects cropping up and the motives are varied. I love how one of the suspects leads us back to a series regular who always find himself in the story. There is also a secondary conundrum about if/ how Carrington was running a scam. This makes the narrative even more interesting. The big reveal is wonderfully entertaining, even if you do wonder how Maddie could have found herself in that situation yet again?!

I love the Southern California setting of this series, and anyone who has lived there or spent any time there will certainly be able to relate to the locales and issues. The author really makes the daily life of So-Cal residents a seamless part of the narrative.

My only disappointments probably come being a series follower and being invested in the characters. Jack, Maddie’s husband, is a detective and is pulled off the case his mother-in-law is under suspicion. This means he has a little more time to spend at home. Except never once does he interact with his cute two year old twins. Other than a line about him chauffeuring then somewhere, he doesn’t even talk about them. In fact, at one point when Maddie is attacked, he says nothing about how the attack could have been close to lethal for the kids, if they were in the car. Not a major issue but as a series follower I thought it was noticeably missing from his character.

The other area I felt cheated was with Dana and Ricky. A major event that could have been really impactful and moving for series followers was over in three short sentences. These characters have won my interest since book 1. I want to really enjoy them and their big moments.

That said, I fully enjoyed re-immersing myself in Maddie’s crazy world and reconnecting with the fun characters who make it up. Other best friend, Marco is always good for a laugh, even if not so much for fashion tips! The descriptions of his over-the-top outfits are hilarious and definitely bring a touch of sparkle to the tale.

“Suspect in High Heels” earns 5/5 Murderous Heirlooms...Engaging Fun!

Entertaining in High Heels! Gemma Halliday’s tenth cozy in her High Heels Mystery is another entertaining adventure following the traditional cozy formula that I love. She starts right off with the conflict and murder implicating a “close to home” person, then delving into the various alternative suspects and motives. Maddie tags along with her mother to the Antiques Extravaganza show with a vintage pair of Chanel two-toned pumps in hand that she’s not sure will make the trip personally rewarding. However, her mother, with a priceless family heirloom, is sure it will be considered a fantastic find garnering her an on-camera appraisal. Unfortunately the professional appraiser impatiently yawns at her retelling of the family providence on a jewel encrusted hat pin detailing its century-old history and connection to Josephine Bonaparte. His less-than-convinced opinion is, “It’s a reproduction.” Maddie had to intervene as her mother took a swing at him with her purse; she’ll regret her loss of control when the offending expert ends up dead by her hat pin! The murder mystery is quite clever with a wide range of suspects, and of course, there’s Maddie’s mother and her anger over the insulting appraisal, but what about the ethically-challenged partner, fan turned stalker, begrudged auction house owner? Greed, jealousy, and revealed secrets are engaging, but it’s Halliday’s sense of humor that keeps me entertained...just plain challenged detectives, aura cleansing, surprise party planning, and twin toddlers. Well written using an enjoyable first-person narrative from Maddie’s perspective, the setting and characters come alive with descriptive language and the tone and personalities are well illustrated with the dialogue. Clever story! Great characters! Wow ending!

Disclosure: I received an ARC. My review is voluntary with honest insights and comments.

Too good to put down! Good thing I picked this one up on a long weeekend!

I cannot believe that I have not discovered this series before now.

For me and I hope for author Gemma Holiday that is what makes book tours and promo's important. I am so glad this book is touring with Great Escapes. Honestly I am not sure I would have found it otherwise and I am glad did.

Except that Suspect In High Heels is book 10 in the series and now I want to read all the rest!
Hello Santa.

If your like me and just discovering Maddie Springer you will have no trouble getting into the with characters.
Which to me speaks of a well crafted plot and great characters that are well developed.

Suspect In High Heels was fun and funny and kept me turning the pages. From Maddie's mom Betty that ends up being the suspect (BTW way in her 80's fashion she would not be caught dead in culottes) to her friend Mrs. Rosenblatt that yells at stumble bum police detectives and calls them out for arresting Betty.
Maddies best friend between jobs actress (not unemployed) Dana is 'Johnny on the spot' to help ferret out clues and has some experience since since she once played a police detective that was studying to be a lawyer. And thankfully she was there to keep the stumble bum detectives in line when they searched Betty's car.
As Maddie and Dana investigate and chat it up with suspects behind the scenes Dana is planning a end all birthday party for her fiance.
And in the end the murder is discovered and the Birthday ends up being the event of the season.

I absolutely adored (if it is possible to adore a mystery) this book and the characters.

My TBR pile just got bigger by 9.

Suspect in High Heels is the tenth book in the High Heels cozy mystery series.

Maddie is a shoe designer, mom of two-year-old twins, and wife of a police detective. However, she makes time to visit the set of Antiques Extravaganza with her mother, Betty, and her mother’s best friend. While there, Betty is told that her antique hatpin is worthless. Infuriated, Betty lashes out at the appraiser, Peter Carrington. Unfortunately, Peter is soon found dead by hatpin and Betty is the obvious suspect. With no alibi, Maddie is forced to investigate the crime to save her mother from being charged with murder.

The friendships and camaraderie are my favorite part of this series. Betty’s wacky friend is hilarious. The situations that everyone finds themselves in are good for a laugh for sure. Overall, Suspect in High Heels is an enjoyable way to spend a few hours with characters that soon feel like friends. 4 stars!

Thanks to Gemma Halliday Publishing and Great Escape Blog Tours for a copy in exchange for my honest review.

Gemma Halliday continues to bring the humor in book 10 of the High Heels Mysteries. You will find yourself laughing out loud at some of the antics taking place in Suspect in High Heels.

The characters are well developed and each brings their personality to the story. In addition to the healthy dose of humor, there is just a touch of romance. Nothing too overt, but enough to make the story quite interesting.

Suspect In High Heels finds Maddie and her mother attending an Antique Roadshow. After being insulted by the expert appraiser who claimed the heirloom hat pin was nothing more than costume jewelry, Maddie's mother quickly becomes number one suspect when the appraiser is murdered at the Antique Roadshow. Maddie instantly goes into undercover/investigator mode trying to find who the real killer is.

Suspect in High Heels is the perfect cozy mystery to brighten anyone's day.

Let me begin with, I love this series and was excited it was back. It was great to spend some time with Maddie and her friends and family again. And yet it pains me to say, something was missing this time around. It took me a long time to get through it when in the past I would blow right through a new installment. And what happened to the romance? I think a big reason anyone reads this series has to do with Maddie & Ramirez (and of course his tattoo, sigh). I was wildly disappointed. Every time Ramirez was with Maddie in this book he would kiss her cheek. KISS HER CHEEK! What is that!!! Yes, I realize they have twins but as a married woman with children myself let me just say, the fire doesn’t just extinguish when you have kids. We got one, count it, ONE suggestive scene. And not even one mention of the tattoo, very sad

I just love this little series!

In this book Maddie finds her mother accused of murder, and of course she cannot let that happen!

This one is cute and fun like all of the others. I will say, that this one wasn’t my favorite Maddie story, but it was still really good. I think my biggest issue was I did figure out part of the big mystery very early on.
