For years, we never looked at each other like that.
But in a single night, everything changed.
...

Some days, he’s my worst enemy. Other days he's my best friend.

Every day, of course, Adam Maxwell is my cocky prick of a boss, and for the past five years, we've been the official power duo at Engelman Sports, closing multi-million dollar contracts like LA’s most well-oiled machine.

Honestly, we thrive on the daily love-hate.

I call out his womanizing. He rags on my “needy” fiancé. And we carry right on.

Because through thick and thin, our work dynamic has always stayed rock-solid. Fine-tuned to the kind of perfection you couldn’t break if you tried. Or so I thought.Until one night. That was all it took to turn our worlds upside down. One weekend business trip and one birthday surprise gone catastrophically wrong. Long story short, Adam caught me exposed.

I felt him aroused...

And just like that the switch flipped on our dynamic.

For five years, Adam Maxwell and I were just friends. But now? We're anything but.

THIS IS THE BEST BOOK I HAVE READ THIS YEAR!

First, this is my favorite trope: boss/assistant workplace romance. Then you add in Adam Maxwell and you undisputedly have the total package.

Adam is one of the top sport’s agents in Los Angeles and he got there with the assistance of his faithful employee and assistant A.J. (Adrienne). They have worked together without a ripple for five years and no one knows Adam better than A.J. No one can speak to him the way she does. No one can calm him down like she does. She can read his mind before he speaks. They are that in sync. Then the Palm Beach weekend happens, and the rest is history. If I say too much, I will give away spoilers, so you must find out yourself what happens in Palm Beach. (smile)

Adam Maxwell checks all my boxes. Gorgeous (check), rich (check), intelligent (check), funny (check) cocky (check), caring (check) and a champion in the bedroom. What starts out innocently between Adam and A.J. with some harmless flirting when they never crossed the line before turns into a scorcher. Boy they are combustible and the sex scenes intense.

I loved the camaraderie ship between the hero and heroine. A. J. had already become invaluable to Adam in business so it was beautiful to see them cross over to become lovers.

I highly recommend this book. I would give it six stars if I could. It was that good.

2020 has been an absolute shitshow. Not only did our world get rocked in March because of the pandemic, but my daughter started having some scary health issues out of nowhere. I was in a constant state of panic for months. I couldn't sleep. I could barely eat. Thinking about anything other than what was going on with my daughter was a struggle, and with the pandemic worries on top of it, it felt like I was living in a nightmare.

Needless to say, I fell into a deep reading slump. I could barely pick up a book, and when I did, I couldn't concentrate on it no matter how hard I tried. Reading is usually my escape, so not having it at a time like this was especially hard. I desperately needed to get out of my head for at least a little while, or I felt like I was going to lose my mind.

When I saw that Stella Rhys was releasing a new novel in her Irresistible series, I was instantly excited and hopeful. She is one of my unicorns. I've loved every book I've read from her without fail. Her books are the perfect escapist reads. The characters always win me over right away. The stories are captivating, and the writing is so good I never get the urge to put the books down. I've read almost every single one of her books in one sitting. She's that good, y'all!

If anybody could pull me out of my slump and get me to fall into the land of make believe, I knew it would be Stella!

Guess what? I was right! Reckless was just what I needed!

I fell head over heels for Adam and AJ immediately! I adored their friendship, their working relationship, and eventually, their romance. The mutual respect between them was present from the beginning, and the history the two of them shared made their connection that much stronger. I loved watching their relationship evolve and develop. The steamy scenes were hot af as always! This author never disappoints in that department. The story itself kept me glued to the page. It was just everything I needed it to be!

I was so happy that we got to see characters from past books, too. It warmed my heart and made me sad all at the same time. I didn't want this series to come to an end, but I know all good things have to at some point, right? Besides, I know whatever Stella comes out with next will be just as incredible.

If you're a fan of this author, give this book a try! You're gonna love it! For those of you that have never read Stella before, DO IT NOW! Go back to the beginning of this series, and read them all! You won't regret it!

Review
Adam Maxwell is a sports agent at a top company in Los Angeles and he has been amazingly successfully in his career with the help of his super assistant of five years, Adrienne (AJ). Adam and AJ have amazing platonic chemistry where AJ has learned to anticipate Adam’s professional needs and Adam appreciates AJ’s assistant skills. Adam and AJ are basically friends with their knowledge of each other’s presence, their hilarious banter, and their respect for each other’s boundaries, but they don’t label themselves as friends to keep their relationship professional.

Though it was hard for AJ to maintain that platonic relationship at first when she started working for Adam because she was attracted to him:
I found Adam Maxwell to be deathly attractive. Like, lose-your-breath, when-was-the-last-time-I-blinked, why-am-I-suddenly-sweating attractive.

But AJ soon learns to be resistive of Adam’s beauty and charm to maintain her professionalism and is nicknamed as The Adam Whisperer at their office:
And because Adam Maxwell was a bit of a twisted dickhead, that snappy brusqueness was precisely how our work relationship thrived. Precisely how I endeared myself to him and became known at the office as The Adam Whisperer. The only one who could rein him in when he was being a raging asshole. The only one who could make him sit long enough to actually listen.

But one blunderful night – the courtesy of AJ’s ex-fiance – jarringly transformed Adam and AJ’s platonic chemistry into fiery sexual chemistry. A perfect summary of the said night in AJ’s words:
Last night had been, in a massive understatement, fucking wild. My fiancé cheated, my boss nearly beat the shit out of him for me, and then said boss and I had an increasingly inappropriate sleepover that started with whiskey and ended with me asking about his masturbation habits—and then getting very openly flustered by his answer.

Therein lies the major problem I had with the book which stopped it from being a perfect read for me. AJ and Adam have worked together for five years with complete professionalism and without any signs of open attraction, so I was a little skeptical how one night created such a drastic change in their behaviors and their chemistry. It felt like it went from platonic to sexual in blink of an eye and I really wanted that build-up to be stretched out!

Otherwise, I really enjoyed the characters and the book! AJ was a tough and strong woman who doesn’t let her past define her. She knows what she wants in her career – career that is male dominated – and is not hesitant to work hard to achieve her professional dreams and goals! Adam was described as an asshole and a manwhore, but it was told more than shown for me. Because he was anything but than an asshole and a manwhore for me.

After realizing he is attracted to AJ after the blunderful night, there is no OW drama from him so I didn’t really see his manwhorish ways. And Adam’s actions spoke louder than words. While they were in a platonic relationship, Adam was still respectful and protective towards AJ. After the flare of their sexual chemistry, he was respective of her wishes, her goals for her career, and her boundaries! So I didn’t really see his assholish ways either. If anything, Adam was a charmer and an amazing partner to AJ. As evident when he defends her in front of her ex:
“In case you forgot, I’ve been with AJ for five years too. But the difference is I’ve known her worth since the day she came into my life, and I never forget it for a second. I know exactly what she brings to the table. That there isn’t anyone else like her out there. I know I wouldn’t have made it anywhere close to this far without her, and that’s what sets my five years apart from yours. I know how fucking lucky I am. And I know to never do anything to screw that up.”

Overall, I loved how AJ was passionate about what she sets her mind to and I loved how Adam swept me off my feet with his charm, protectiveness, possessiveness, playfulness, and sometimes his seriousness. Getting Adam’s backstory broke my heart and I wanted more closure for Adam and Cole in this book, but hopefully we get Cole’s book and the closure will be part of it!
“You make everything come together and feel right in a way I could’ve never dreamed of, and every day I wake up, I’m so fucking grateful to be holding you. Every morning, I feel it stronger than the last. I don’t know what I did to deserve you, AJ. I just know that I want to spend the rest of my life protecting you and making you proud. Making you as happy as you make me every second I’m with you.”

The writing was riveting, and easy flowing as is always the case with Stella Rhys’s books. The banter between Adam and AJ was feisty, engaging, and downright hilarious at times! The chemistry and romance were scorching, swoon-worthy, and brimming with passion. I really enjoyed Reckless and can’t wait for more books in the world of the Irresistible series!

Freakin’ fabulous story. One of my favourite reads of the year!

"One look at those lips and my blood went hot."

AJ Tan has been Adam Maxwell's right-hand woman for five years. He might look like God's gift to women, but AJ got over her crush within weeks of working for him, and now they work perfectly in tandem together. However, one life-changing moment for AJ has them suddenly looking at each other in a completely non-professional way. One dramatic weekend has their dynamic changing and the sexual tension between them escalating, until the lines are so blurred that they soon find themselves redefining their relationship.

"I spend half my day trying to get you out of my head and the other half just letting you f*cking own every inch of my brain space."

Gaaah! I just loved this story so much and I didn't want it to end! It was funny, HOT AF and tugged at the heartstrings. I want to be AJ when I grow up! She's smart, sassy and more than able to handle herself - and Adam. He has huge respect for her and recognises that he owes a lot of his success to her, even though she likes to give him a hard time. I loved the ever-shifting dynamic in their relationship, as they try to deny what's between them but seem completely incapable of sticking to their previous script. The chemistry between them was off the charts. I found Adam's dirty mouth thrilling and I absolutely loved that he wasn't shy about the things he wanted to do to AJ!! *fans self* And, she gave as good as she got! LOL. I adored that beneath Adam's cocky, hardass veneer beat the heart of a man who was vulnerable, loyal, protective and so caring. He carried some deep hurts and my heart melted as he shared so much of himself with AJ. I love this author's writing style. I just knew this book was going to be fabulous and she thoroughly delivered!

How have I never read this author?! Silly, silly me!!

*grabs all she can carry and hides in her bedroom to binge*

Because the writing was fun - and the characters real and relatable. Add some over the charts chemistry? And you've got a perfect book to start a new author with.

And even though the boss/assistant romance is not my favourite thing, Ms. Rhys managed to make it interesting and believable enough, so I stuck with it and was rewarded greatly. I'm going to read everything by this author. Soon.

4.5 stars: If you’re looking for a beautiful, angstfree, steamy romance that makes you laugh, warms your heart, this is your chance to experience it all! This is the perfect story to lose yourself in and feel with Adam and AJ. Who cares if the mandatory relationship complication was somewhat predictable, Adam’s back story was absolutely not and it was both heartbreaking and heartbreakingly beautiful to discover. I’m gonna go ahead and enjoy the happy afterglow this novel has left me with and leave with that one thought: How did I not know this is the 6th book in a series??

(Me, pet-peeving: The copious, erroneous use of “literally” made me not literally, but figuratively go up the wall. 🤪 )

until I made the critical mistake of licking whipped cream off my finger. Mid-click, Adam cut his gaze to me – and with such laser swiftness I actually froze mid-lick, eyes wide and suppressing laughter till he shook his head, averting his eyes back to his screen. He gave another few clicks of his trackpad before he said, “If you’re going to eat in here, I’m going to need you to do it less attractively.”
Hi sternness made my eyebrows lift with both surprise and amusement. “Okay, let me just chew with my mouth wide open then.”
“That, I’d fire you for.”

… she stepped out of the elevator looking like an angel in a white sundress so perfect on her body that I forgot what the fuck blinking was.

Other books in the Irresistible series:
1. Sweet Spot ⭐️⭐️⭐️ 1/2
2. Bad Boss TBD
3. Dirty Deeds TBD
4. Hothead TBD
5. Now or Never ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
6. Reckless ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2

Overall Opinion: This was a fun surprise! I still wanted more with the ending but what else is new with me, right? 🤪 I liked their love/hate thing they had going on, I liked their connection and chemistry, and I liked that we get deeper in to the H’s character. I did find that I wanted to know more about AJ though. While I liked her overall, I just feel like we didn’t get as deep into her character as we did with Adam. It did feel like things kind of went into warp speed at the end to tie everything up and that was a little frustrating tbh. But! Overall, this was a fun, sexy, pretty low angst read!

Brief Summary of the Storyline: This is AJ and Adam’s story. AJ has been Adam’s assistant for about 5 years and when her world gets turned upside down by her fiancé, she ends up allowing herself to see Adam in a different light. Adam gives in to his attraction to AJ once she is free from said fiancé and they have some steamy encounters that turn into much more. There is some baggage they have to work through, some sexy times, and some drama...and they get a HFN ending.

Point Of View (POV): This alternated between AJ and Adam’s POV.

Overall Pace of Story: Good (except the rushed ending). I never skimmed and I thought it flowed well.

Instalove: No, theyve known each other for ~5 years and it takes a while to develop (or recognize) stronger feelings.

H (Hero) rating: 4 stars. Adam. I liked him. I liked how he said what he felt and made himself vulnerable to AJ.

h (heroine) rating: 4 stars. AJ. I liked her. I appreciated her smarts and sassy nature. I also liked how she was protective of Adam.

Sadness level: Low, no tissues needed

Push/Pull: Yes

Heat level: Hot. They have some hot tension, chemistry, and scenes -- but not so much it takes away from the story.

Descriptive sex: Yes

OW (Other Woman)/OM (Other Man) drama: Yes

Sex scene with OW or OM: No

Cheating: Not between mcs

Separation: Yes

Possible Triggers: Yes

Closure: This ends with a cute ending with some good closure but I would’ve liked more details about their future and a more concrete commitment to call it a HEA, so I’m calling it a HFN (even though I’m sure others would be fine calling it a HEA) ending

Safety: This one should be Safe for most safety gang readers

Um.. WHERE HAS THIS AUTHOR BEEN until now? why haven't I heard of her before, when I needed fun banter, smuttiness , plot, good writing, and I fell into this book slump? Why doesn't she have proper FB/Instagram accounts so I can stalk her?
Ok..(deep breaths) I don't know what the heck is going on, but I need more.Thank goodness for GR friends and their reviews in my newsfeed for this.

Perfect office, boss-assistant romance book. The perfect blend of great banter, chemistry, tension, plot, sex scenes and closure. Just loved it! oh and ADAM (swonnnnnn)

Adam Maxwell is big sports's agent and his right hand, for 5 years now is AJ. These two are like a well oiled machine. They know eachother perfectly: moods, needs, gestures, expectations, the dynamic between them is perfect. Always kept a professional relationship despite them spending every day together working hard. This until one night, when AJ caught her fiance cheating and Adam was there to back her up.
In the course of the next months their relationship went from platonic to charged and on fire. Both realized that all this pent-up chemistry was actually there since the beginning but subdued under their active jobs. They discover one another more and more and what should be a one time deal to ease up the awkwardness becomes something regular and builds strong feelings neither is going to ignore.
In a environment ruled by mans, gossip and judgment pulls them apart for a while, but they find their way back to eachother again and we have a HFN.

This author is definitely worth keeping an eye on. I will check her other works too that's for sure.

I was not sure about Reckless when I picked it up. But it has been so long since I read Miss Rhys' book. And I am not disappointed.

I like AJ. She is a kick ass heroine. She is sexy, and she owns it. Her attraction to Adam is cute and endearing. Adam is also fun. His loyality to his family makes me swoon.

It is good to finally be able to pick up a good book.

Me after reading this book-

Another hit by a new-to-me author!! Adam is officially inducted to my harem of book boyfriends!

Office romance is one of my favorite tropes so I knew this was going to be a win for me.

Adrienne Joelle, aka, AJ is the assistant to a successful baseball sports manager, Adam Maxwell. Together as a team they are invincible. For five years, they have been in the best platonic relationship but one night of cheating-bastards, expensive lingerie, and a hot as hell boss, the sexual tension becomes almost unbearable. But giving in to your temptations doesn't always makes it go away. So what happens if they both crave more?

I loved the sexual tension between Adam and AJ. It was not unexpected but totally refreshing. The chemistry was sizzling! And when they finally yield to it? It was simply explosive!

I had an amazing time with this one and would totally recommend it as a light read!

This was a hot and steamy, friends/boss and assistant to lovers read. They are sports agent and assistant and they have been working and bantering for the last five years. Adam can’t live without AJ, and AJ loves her dynamic with her friend/boss. But things change with one encounter and it’s worth it. I honestly love Stella’s books and the amount of heat and tension. I will say that I rated this lower, because in this book there is a point where things feel a little draggy. The angst is good, and I love the sub plot angst, but it just takes a bit to get there. Like pulling some teeth. All in all this was still a good read. With the right amount of tension and heat.

PS - Cole NEEDS a book. Make it extra grumpy sunshine and I will be very very happy.

Wow, I LOVED! This book is seriously underrated, and by far my favourite read by this author, she's always been a bit hit or miss for me but mainly a hit so I always read her new releases if I see them.

This was a story that had everything I love, and the characters were both likeable and interesting - I could read about these two all day long. Also, this book was hot and wonderfully balanced with some seriously sweet moments. Plus, the bants was so funny.

Perfectly swoony, loved it 💜

Sexxxxualll tensionnnn!!!

Like so much of it. The kind that makes you blush and giggle as you read cause DAMN she did it again. I honestly knew I was going to love these two after seeing their fiery, back and forth dynamic in Now or Never but man they were even hotter and wittier and more banter-y than I ever expected and the sexual tension was just sizzling off the damned pages. I LOVED THESE TWO.

I did not know this was the combo of tropes I needed but boss assistant + friends to lovers is my new jam. These two are ride or dies that, despite being assholes to each other most of the time, actually have each other’s backs 100% and have from day one. They’ll never say it out loud but their relationship is incredibly special. That connection plus the one-upping, love-hate thing they have going on makes for explosive chemistry and as usual HOT AF sex.

But of course Stella also weaves a truckload of emotions and reveals and heart-wrenching backstories that make you want more. Specifically from one character but in case it’s a spoiler I won’t say.

Can’t wait for more!!

tbh I've been in a reading slump since the end of May, but I think this book finally got me out of my slump. This was my first Stella Rhys book, but definitely won't be my last! I was invested in everything that was happening. Although friends to lovers is one of my favorite tropes, there have been books where it's hard for me to see the H/h as more than friends cause of the sibling relationship vibe they gave off so I'm glad this was not the case of Reckless for me.

I loved the way Adam (H) and AJ (h) knew so much about each other to the point where they could instantly tell the other's moods. I loved Adam so much. The way he was straight forward about his feelings and stood by it rather than trying to run away. *swoons* I loved AJ as well! I could relate to her at times and, other times, I didn't agree with her choices but, overall, she was an amazing heroine. As for the side characters, the relationship between AJ, Georgia and Emily was so fun to read about. They gave me laughter throughout this book! I'm hoping we'll get stories for Knox, Cole, Georgia and Emily. I'm interested in knowing more about those four in particular. Highly recommend! <3

DNF (read to about 40 %, skimmed to 75%). A lot of office lust and not enough genuine emotions or character development. I'll classify this as erotic romance for that reason, when plot takes second place to a whole lot of raunchy sex.

platonic feelings? AJ and Adam definitely don't know her

this book DRAGGED me out of my slump, reckless was absolutely LOVELY

a delicious boss/assistant romance but also friends to lovers trope with a hint of fake dating to piss off her ex. All this served with a side of jealousy, bickering, angst, SHARING ONE BED and YEARNING??? scrumptious. decadent. delectable. just chef's kiss.

i hope we get blessed with cole's book next please and thank you

2.5⭐️ meh not for me

The spice is the best part. From the get go there’s tension buildup and then BAM, it hits ya! And honestly, the spice didn't totally make me cringe so that's good. But other than that, I didn’t really like the story.

I’m not a huge fan on friends to lovers or office romances (because I haven’t read any good one) and this story definitely didn’t change my mind. It’s all lust and hardly any emotional development. I guess there are technically emotions get uncovered once they're intimate. But I didn't feel like the author really explored the emotional side very much but instead expected the reader just to understand that since they've worked well together throughout the last 4 years and have some sort of friendship that an emotional connection is already established.

Adam and AJ start saying 'I love you' by the 50% mark, and after that, the story gets kind of boring. So I started skimming.

I hate when the MMC is focused on one physical aspect of the FMCs body, and all Adam seemed to think about was AJ’s ‘perfect tits’. Every time he saw or thought about her, he ALWAYS had something to say about her ‘perfect tits’. I was so done.

The number of times Adam said he was so turned on by AJ that he has to jerk it multiple times throughout the day or night to make it through….WHAT THE FUCK? Ew, are you 15 years old? I get this is supposed to make the guy seem soooo obsessed and out of control over the girl but first off, it’s not remotely realistic, and second, it’s fucking weird.

Overall, it just really wasn’t for me.

v promising beginning w the whole equal (almost attraction free (atleast it seemed that way)) boss-employee buddybanter-y relationship. love it when they can be in one another’s company without thinking ab each other naked on every encounter, esp when theyre not together yet

but they started brought said attraction to each other way too early. and unfortunately it was also angstfree the whole (not so short) book. there wasnt anything at stake it got so boring

Stella Rhys is quickly becoming one of my favourite authors, but her latest installment was underwhelming. I couldn’t connect with the characters or their love story as deeply as I could with her other works. The premise of the story (assistant/boss relationship) didn’t really work and I found myself cringing more than I was squealing over the romance’s beginnings, usually my favourite parts.

Hoping to reignite the spark in their relationship after a seriously long dry spell, AJ Tan goes all out for her fiancé’s birthday celebrations. The plan? She’ll surprise him in his hotel room (after pretending that a work commitment will take her away in another city) and they’ll (hopefully) make use of her generous stash of condoms and new lingerie. However, when her partner of almost six years eventually shows up – in the room booked with her dime, no less – he isn’t alone. Horrified to discover that all the hotels in the surrounding area are fully booked for the duration of her stay, she has no choice but to ask her boss, Adam Maxwell, to bunk in his room. With Adam having had to bury his long-held attraction to his assistant of five years, AJ’s newly minted singledom and their living arrangements are the perfect storm for mounting sexual tension. But warring with her attraction are its potential repercussions to her professional reputation, something that she hasn’t worked countless all-nighters to destroy.

Reckless was decent, but it didn’t live up to my expectations, which were set pretty high considering how much I loved Now or Never. AJ and Adam didn’t really shine individually or together – or at least not as memorably as Stella’s other leads. The sex scenes weren’t as hot, outside of that very steamy scene in the shower, and felt repetitive after a while (not a sentiment I usually share about her sex scenes). Adam in particular, didn’t have the charm of an Iain Thorn and the couple’s (relatively) lacking sexual chemistry meant that it couldn’t really compensate for his assholeness, à la Drew Maddox. I wished Adam’s secret was revealed earlier because it provided that emotional depth I was missing. (When he was nine, he went to New Jersey to live with his father and stepmother, leaving his destitute biological mother and half-brother in LA. Despite his best efforts, his brother refused to speak to him, as he viewed Adam’s departure and newly acquired wealth as betrayals to the family.) It explained everything, including why Jeannie had raised Holland/reacted to Adam the way she did and why Adam was the way he was (for example, why he held Holland at arm’s length, which I had previously, and erroneously, filed away as yet another example of a careless disregard for others).

Likewise, it took me some time to warm up to AJ. In college, her professor had rescinded her internship and devalued her work in front of their entire class when she refused to sleep with him. As someone who was shamed for her relationship with an authoritative figure and who was determined that her actions be the sole driver behind any success, I was cringing at AJ’s and Adam’s increasingly public sexcapades, especially when she initiated them. As she stated, knowledge of their relationship would only harm her career. It was frustrating that she would risk throwing away five years of hard work, her dreams, for sex (at least close the door if you're going to do it in the office!). However, I did like how this conflict played out, when their colleagues inevitably found out about their relationship so soon after her promotion. Adam followed her to the East Coast and chose to work with a smaller firm – instead of Iain’s company – so that AJ could have space to grow her career. I particularly liked that she found this out through happenstance and after two months of standing on her own feet. He didn’t lord his gesture over her head and the ball was in her court to go to him.

While AJ’s ex-fiancé was deplorable, it bothered me that Adam dubbed Casper’s sexual preferences (i.e. not wanting to take control in the bedroom) “Cassie”. It was “only” mentioned twice, but it was two times too many. It was toxic masculinity at best, and transphobic at worst. I also don’t understand why, in Stella’s novels, the heroines’ exes are always douchebags. I guess it’s to contrast them against, and by extension, lift the hero, but it always makes me side-eye the heroine. You are the company you keep, and their dogged attempts to fight for that kind of relationship (until it reaches an irredeemable turning point) makes me question their self-respect.

This review may seem negative, but I actually did enjoy the novel, especially compared to other romances. It was only against my benchmark for the author’s works that I thought Reckless missed the mark. As always, I like Stella’s prose and how I can never seem to put her books down once I begin. There were also some noteworthy moments, such as Adam’s speech when he attributed his successes/happiness to AJ and his notions on feeling whole vs. complete. Stella’s novels may be formulaic, but I like that her conflicts always feel genuine, as her characters’ misunderstandings (and motivations for keeping their secrets hush-hush until the very end) are, for lack of a better word, understandable. Nonetheless, my somewhat shallow connection to Reckless’ oft-noted “perfect” protagonists and their romance failed to garner the novel a "must-reread" status, unlike her last three installments.

Trigger Warnings:

**Thank you to NMmomof4 for her informative review, it helped with the trigger warnings.**

If you enjoyed this and want something similar, I recommend A Very Bossy Christmas, it has a similar feel but Christmasy. I liked this book a lot more though, it was everything that I needed after binging so many dark romance books. This is my first Stella Rhys book and although it is the 6th book in the Irresistible series, you can read this as a stand-alone, just like I have. I’m curious about the previous book and plan on reading it at some point since the couple did appear in this book quite a bit, I liked Holland and Iain so I wanna check it out. I loved Adam and AJ so damn much, the two communicate and issues are resolved once they are brought up. There aren’t any stupid misunderstandings that pissed me off and I loved how straightforward Adam is about his feelings. This book is an office romance between an assistant and her boss. I liked how both individuals respected one another and were able to work and praise one another, I loved that Adam was genuinely proud of AJ. This book doesn’t overdo the focus on the job, it’s a great balance of romance and the job, more romance which is a bonus. I can’t wait to read more by Stella Rhys cuz I adored this and highly recommend it to those looking for a quick, fun read.

So this follows AJ and Adam, AJ is getting ready to impress her boyfriend Caspar for their anniversary. She’s got all these things ready but things don’t go as planned. When AJ is pushed into a vulnerable state after finding out that Caspar was cheating on her, she turns to the person she is closest to, her boss Adam. Adam has worked with AJ for 5 years and knows that no one can fit the role of being his assistant better than she can. After AJ’s asshole boyfriend cheats on her, he protects AJ and they are pushed closer together than ever before.

Now for spoilers

This was so fun I don’t even wanna say goodbye to Adam and AJ yet. I had a blast, anyway, stay safe folks :)

This is the story of Adam and AJ.
Adam is smoldering sexy, cocky, and intelligent. He is a very talented agent for an LA sports agency.

A.J. is beautiful, whip-smart, and can read her boss, Adam like a book. She’s worked for him 5 years after all, and has been passed over repeatedly for promotion after promotion. Despite her talent, she’s never got to be an agent. It all started when her professor sexually harassed her and essentially launched a smear campaign against her.

I did like this book. It is quite vanilla and safe. Adam realizes that he’s loved A.J. for a long time and he champions her. It’s not Adam’s fault that A.J.’s never got to have the career she’s worked for, though he did take her for granted. He wouldn’t have had the success he enjoyed as an agent without A.J.’s assistance. A.J. is basically the victim of a sexist industry, which is why I was a bit frustrated with this book. I kept thinking, “Why bother? You’re just spinning your wheels and wasting your youth, A.J.! Find another career/agency before it’s too late! Quit wiping Adam’s cranky, unstable ass for him!”

She eventually figures it out. He realizes he can’t live without her... HEA with a sibling reunion thrown in!

There were some typos, some inconsistencies with 1st person/3rd person perspective that threw me a bit. This book needs some more editing. It kept me entertained and had some nice steaminess, so four stars! ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️

3.5

Liked it a lot, but could have done without all the talk about the heroes past with women. He only had eyes for the heroine once they started though. She also had a fiance the whole time they worked together which a lot of why they stayed friends and buried their attraction. It worked for me. This author writes steamy scenes incredibly well!

2 stars and thats pushing it.

This book is unbelievably juvenile. The characters are juvenile. The way they literally never think anything apart from sex is juvenile. The heroine texting her friend how she “can’t stop imagining her boss’s 9 inch dick” is especially juvenile. These are late-20s, early-30s people. No one over the age of seventeen talks and acts like the way they do, especially if they are talking and acting about sex.

The sex scenes themselves are sprinkled generously throughout the book, but they are nothing magnificent. Same old, same old. The hero is described as ridiculously-mind blowingly-insanely handsome at least once every chapter. It got pretty old pretty fast. I ended up skipping whole paragraphs to save myself from yet another lustful description of his abs.

I’m just so done with authors who think that a hot bod is a personality trait. Prettiness doesn’t make you relatable, and a drop dead Greek god gorgeousness doesn’t automatically make you attractive.

Sometimes I want to gently cup the authors’ faces in my small hands and softly scream,

PRETTY IS NOT A CHARACTER TRAIT. IT HAS NEVER BEEN NOR WILL IT EVER BE A PERSONALITY TRAIT. YOU’RE JUST MAKING YOUR CHARACTERS “HOT” TO GET OUT OF ACTUALLY HAVING TO FORM A HUMAN CONNECTION BETWEEN THEM. ITS SHALLOW AND LITERALLY EVERYONE SEES THROUGH IT.

This is such a basic, “duh obvs” concept that I can’t believe I still have to say this in 2021.

This one is a great comeback from Ms.Rhys because I don't really like the previous books, Holland and Iain story. This book is a gem and a good way to conclude irresistible series if this going to be a last one since, Ms.Rhys announced that she wil be taking a break from writing.

I love Adam & AJ and that unpredictable plot twist. 🤗

Reread on 22/2/22 - if you plan to read, just push until the end and you will see why I love this book so much. 5.5⭐

Reread on 13/12/22 - it's still the best!

I read enough to know this is not for me. And that epilogue is a joke. Sorry but a engagement that’s it. No thanks.
Why I can’t find a good office romance. Ugh 😩

The mix of heat and absolute sweetness of this couple is an out of this world reading experience!

I love the way these two work together! They make no sense yet together they are everything! His surly, jerk ways mixed with her sassy flare and sweet demeanor just work! With out one you don’t get the full power of who they are! They bring out the best and worse of one another but together they magnify the most endearing qualities!

Adam is a man who knows what he wants but he wears his pain as a suit of armor! He doesn’t do love and he barely knows how to deal with his own family! The only person who can bring his walls down just a little has always been AJ!
Aj thought she had the world figured out but each day spent with her boss Adam she discovers things about herself she didn’t know possible! She’s outspoken, determined and smart! When her world begins to crumble she finds comfort in the last place she expected! What she feels is a one off turns into more. As they begin to tear each other’s walls down AJ and Adam discover that there’s more to each other and that maybe love is worth the leap of faith!

I have loved this series since book one and with each new couple I just fall more and more in love with the characters Stella has created! This is a definite summer must read!
