McFadden was born in New York but grew up in California where he stills lives in today. A college drop-out, he did factory work, painted houses and programmed computers before becoming a recognized author. Initially unsuccessful when he set out to write science fiction and adult mystery, it was not until his work caught the attention of an editor who suggested he write a teen thriller that he became a hit. The result was Slumber Party (1985), a book about a group of teenagers who run into bizarre and violent events during a ski weekend. After that he wrote Weekend and Chain Letter. All three books went on to become bestsellers.

Another great addition to the oldie children's series from Christopher Pike. The man obviously loves science fiction, so he dabbles with time travel here. Not just that, though, but toward the origins of the town Spooksville by meeting its founders. Not as funny as a lot of the other books (it's cute - and appropriate - that Sally will become known as 'the evil one' because of Cindy's diary), but this book did stand out since the ending had a permanent surprise and was actually decently sad/depressing.

With a cover like that, of course I was interested in checking this out. And I didn't even care about not reading any of the books that came before. Fifteen of them! LOL.

Cindy, Sally, Adam, Watch and Bryce are friends who live in the creepy town of Spooksville. On the Friday night they decide to go to the movies to watch a scary movie, they find a strange contraption they decide to call the Time Toy. (Or is it the Time Terror?)

And when they use it, they end up travelling through time...

This book is such a short and easy read. It's also a lot of fun! I read it in one sitting. It reminds me of the adventure books I used to enjoy when I was a kid. It's spooky, has a cool group of kids, their town is weird, and they end up in the middle of a bunch of freaky situations.

I had heaps of fun reading this book, and hope to find more of them while thrifting. 😀

My oh my, this was certainly an unorthodox addition to the Spooksville series. However, it was also an incredibly entertaining addition. In Time Terror, Christopher Pike dives into the more 'sci-fi' side of Spooksville. While the various trips forward and backward in time were a bit hard to follow, I was satisfied with the resolution and was even surprised to find myself feeling more empathy towards Watch's unfortunate situation than usual. Overall, a solid novel that showcased the classic Spooksville cast that we've all come to know and love.
