The Jane Jameson series is back with a new paranormal romantic comedy about werewolf yearning to find her own place world, and the group of admittedly unique vampires who help her find love.
Tylene McClaine, black sheep of the McClaine Half-Moon Hollow werewolf pack, has spent a lifetime blocking out the criticisms of her boisterous pack. They say she’s too bookish, too sarcastic, and worst of all, too picky when it comes to finding a nice werewolf boy and settling down.
But when she meets vampire and Half-Moon Hollow music teacher, Alex Bonfils, Tylene starts to wonder if she could create the life she’s always wanted. She takes every precaution to meet her sexy vamp in secret, but when a vandal around town starts targeting vampire businesses, she fears her family might have found her out. When the damage in town escalates, Tylene and Alex join forces with Jane Jameson, Dick Cheney, and the whole vampire gang to find the culprit and save Half-Moon Hollow before it’s too late!

One of the challenges for an author is maintaining originality as their books accumulate. Molly Harper has been returning to Half Moon Hollow for 10 years and maybe a dozen books and calling a spade a spade she hasn't wandered too far off the well beaten path. It's not really a problem, her books are entertaining light hearted fun and I enjoy them just for that.
I don't love them as much as I did but I still buy them because I know I'm going to get a laugh and have a few hours of escapism.
I really used to like these stories. Now I feel like these are being written to fulfill a shorter word count. I don’t like insta love and that’s what the last several have been.
In this book in particular, the timing when they exchange I love yous is far too soon and unnecessary. She could have waited until the end. They spent like two minutes on the page together (not counting off page) and they were saying I love you.
I wasn’t fooled by the Cillian either. Overall cute but the insta love left a bad taste in my mouth.
It’s very possible this might be my last MH book. I keep saying that but...
This is a fun return to Half-Moon Hollow. A supernatural romance, a growing sense of family, an annoying bad guy and a truly evil bad guy. Everything we’ve come to expect.
My only quibble is that she might be trying to squeeze too much in too short a book. It maybe should have been longer.
First book by Molly Harper, such a delightful read...sweet and funny. A story with a female Werewolf and some friendly Vampires, that was really charming...a first for me. I loved Tylene ❤️
What can I say? I happen to have a soft spot for Half Moon Hollow and all of the wacky supernaturals that call it home. I've even gotten to the point where I hear Amanda Ronconi narrate and her voice just sounds right for the Hollow. Crazy, isn't it?
So, when I got up this morning and saw that my "pre-order" for the newest Half Moon Hollow book was in my library today, I thought, "Yay! I'm in the mood to laugh!" And, laugh I did.
It's funny how even the characters seem to be maturing to me. (It's not me getting older, it's the characters....really) I've probably been reading this series for several years. Honestly, I would have to look it up, but I know it has been a long, long time, yet they never get old. They never seem over done, it is never boring, and yes....they ALWAYS make me laugh. Dick Cheney cracked me up in this one. He seems to be getting mellow in his old age. I loved his description as his new job as a "late in life surrogate grand parent figure" and I loved the feeling of just, well...family.
There is always something crazy going on in the Hollow, and honestly - it is always pretty easy to figure out who the bad guy is (high tech murder mystery, this is not) yet it is the journey that we go through as it is unfolding that makes it worth it. It is the building of these relationships that supersede natural boundaries - werewolf, vampire, human, witch - none of that maters because when you're family, well, you're family.
So, about the book - well, there is a bad guy who's bad, there is a romance between a werewolf and a vampire, and there is the journey of said werewolf to find and begin the journey of becoming an independent woman learning to make decisions on her own. But really, it is getting to see how family can be annoying and intrusive, but in the end....it is unequivocally priceless.
I liked the book. I just felt it ended too soon. Too much wasted time growing up/changing circumstances/my family doesn't understand me/I was not loved even though the rest of the world loves me....sorry. I digress.
Not enough time in the actual relationship. I don't even feel like I know who this music teacher is. I love this author but I'm feeling jipped.
This is another series I've been a fan of that I felt like I'd been waiting for the next book for a long time. The Jane Jameson world has stayed fun with it's romances and mysteries. New characters get introduced but we always have a link to Jane. Jane and Dick are still running the League and dealing with issues as they come up. In Nice Werewolves Don't Vampires, there is someone going around vandalizing vampire run businesses. One of those businesses happens to belong to Alex Bonfils who, interestingly enough, teaches music to Tylene McLain's niece and nephew.
Alex, of course, is a vampire, but Tylene is a werewolf from the McLain pack. This makes their relationship very dangerous. Tylene's family is trying to marry her off to werewolves of other packs trying to form bonds and she struggles to keep her relationship with Alex and avoid the disastrous dates that get set up for her.
The McLain family had some wild ideas and I enjoyed the antics Tylene went through to keep her secret. The mystery was also well done. I love how the main characters fall into it and Jane and Dick ride to clean things up.
The narration for Nice Werewolves Don't Bite Vampires was fabulous. I love Amanda Ronconi and the many characters she narrates. I never have a problem differentiating characters from each book, or even different series. Between the relationship dynamics, the mystery stress and the narration, I am in love with this Half-Moon Hollow installment.
I've been binging most of Molly Harper's novels during this month. It's the type of series that leaves me feeling sad if there isn't more to read asap. To be honest, I now consider it to be one of my favorite series. It's a feel good series about accepting one's differences and accepting love from a found family. I can see myself reading them or listening to them on a bad day.
Enough gushing and onto this book's actual content. Tylene is having a rough time living with her family. She's a werewolf and her parents are pushing her to date and marry another werewolf. She is pressured to keep living at home with her parents and all of this is straining the relationship. One day, at the library, she meets a kind vampire and sparks fly. She then has to navigate this new attraction vs her family's expectation... also someone is clearly unhappy with her life choices and has taken to arson to make their feelings known.
I feel like a broken record in these reviews, but every single character is charismatic and funny. I would hang out with every single one of them. Molly Harper has created a world and characters that I love and value.
Even though this title and cover is silly, it's still worth it
Nice Werewolves Don't Bite Vampires brings us back to Half-Moon Hollow, Jane Jameson, Dick Cheney, and the whole vampire gang. Everyone knows someone like Tylene McClaine, the quiet one the one who just doesn’t fit in with the rest of the crowd. Not in a creepy way, just in they’d rather be anywhere else. Tylene is smart and fighting against family expectations. And when you’re a werewolf those expectations are backed up with tooth and claw. But if Jolene could do it so can Ty. This was a fun tale of those efforts mixed with the Scooby gangs efforts to find out who is targeting Vampire business’s and why. I loved Ty and could totally relate.
This book is a solid 3.5 stars rounded up to 4. It made me smile and I love a book that makes me smile. I love all of Molly Harpers books. The plot and characters are an absolute riot. I always end her books with a smile on my face. This one had some funny in it but I really didn't feel connected to Tylene and Alex like I did with some of the other characters in other Ms. Harper's books. Their relationship felt rushed. I felt the romance was definitely underdeveloped. There wasn't much there at all before they were all but declaring themselves soulmates. Based on what? Shared lust? I just didn't see it. Also, very little was explained about Alex (physical description or past history). I love the world and the characters and will continue to read books in this series if Ms. Harper decides to write some more. She writes quirky, funny characters and situations really really well. I just wish there had been more content here. But I did enjoy reading it!
Anytime I get a chance to revisit Dick and Jane I jumped at it. Fans will roar with laughter when the gang gets together to investigate a series of vampire targeted crimes while helping a young werewolf with true love.
I feel like I read a YA, this heroine... But she got her character development so it's fine, and the gang is always great to read. Lots of typos and weird sentence structures though.
A collection of typos, grammatical and spelling errors, and entirely jumbled sentences. Did you publish the rough draft??? This has the most errors I’ve ever seen in one small book. And given what a shite state editing and proofreading has been in over the last decade...that’s really saying something. Reading this was brutal. I had really been looking forward to it, too. Molly Harper books make me feel happy and relaxed. They’re my escape valve. This is the first time I’ve considered not finishing one because I was SO massively irritated. I mean, every error pulls you out of the story, and I don’t think there was a single page that didn’t have an error or five. Some of them were so egregious, I literally had to take time to puzzle out what she was trying to say! Why is it suddenly so hard to get it right??? Every book, every article...it’s everywhere. Is it that nobody working in publishing is capable, anymore? Or is it that they just don’t care about doing a good job? Maybe all the budget cuts are coming home to roost in the editing department? I dunno. It’s too fucking depressing.
This is a charming entry in Molly Harper’s Half Moon Hollow fantasy series. Tylene is a werewolf who is smothered by her family. Her parents don’t understand Tylene’s job in doing social media for businesses, so they think she is not working. Her aunts don’t understand that Tylene wants her own life and job instead of becoming a housewife and bearer of werewolf cubs, and this dooms all the blind dates they force on her. She feels misunderstood and unloved by her pack. Then she meets a hot vampire, Alex. Alex is kind, considerate, and interesting. More importantly, she meets a whole chosen family of kind vampires who accept her as is. Can Tylene figure out how to keep Alex in her life? Or the bunch of nice vampires, even if she and Alex don’t work out? She finds even the idea of moving out of her parents’ house hard. And then a murderous psychopath shows up. All end happily and even hopefully.
Heather's Notes I liked this story for the most part. I did find Tylene a little wimpy in the beginning, but she got better towards the end. Alex was great.
2020 bk 3??: A Worthy entry in the Half-Moon series. In this, Jolene's cousin Tylene is beset by aunties and parents who want her married and with children, afterall, she is pack. As a single, young werewolf who is running her own online company in social media design, Tylene wants her own life and to pick the men who she wants to see, not her aunt's choices. Enter the new music teacher in town - a vampire and an old one at that, but very attractive and the very man for Tylene. It is a struggle to leave the pack and that is made worse when an old enemy of the vampires shows up and kidnaps her. I do so enjoy Molly Harper's stories. They can take you away from life, quarantine, and back pain!
Last episode of the Half Moon Hollow series (for now) and it follows Tylene, Jolene's younger werewolf cousin and fellow pack member as she grapples with her controlling family and starts dating local music teacher and vampire, Alex. There's a strong thread of found family and breaking free of your roots throughout this series but this one really hammers it home. While these paranormal romances are very deliberately formulaic, they are also light, fun and quirky with plenty of humour. Have enjoyed the entire series.
Was great to catch up with Half-Moon Hollow and all my favorite vampires and werewolves. The story centers around Tylene McClaine (Jolene's cousin) and her struggle to live her own life apart from what her parents and the pack are pushing her to do - including dating a vampire instead of settling down with a nice werewolf boy.
While I liked the book okay, it definitely isn't up to the usual Half-Moon Hollow standards. The character development and romance felt very forced and rushed, and the writing wasn't as witty as usual. Additionally, the plot seemed to meander around and the "villain" never really had a definite presence or menacing quality. There were also a lot of typos for a finished version, which makes me wonder if this one wasn't edited as closely as past books.
If you love the Hollow, read it. If you haven't read the Hollow, start with Jane Jameson and work your way through chronologically.
I read this a few weeks ago and forgot to review it but I remember that this was a fun and enjoyable story. It was pretty typical of the stories in this series and I liked it very much. :D
* note - I listened to the audio version of this story and the narrator did a great job.
Enjoyable entry into this beloved series! While a little short and with an underdeveloped hero, this was still a fun walk through this series and a return of some favourite characters. Definitely recommend, and as usual the audio was stellar and worth the credit/purchase.
I really needed a stress break and Molly Harper always fills the bill. Not the best of the series but some good laughs. Great narration as usual by Amanda Ronconi.
