Immortal Poison

Rate this book
After a near drug overdose two years ago, Piper James has it all: the perfect downtown address, a hip bartending gig on south street, and a loyal best friend by her side. Relocating to the city of Philadelphia seems like it was the perfect fresh start to the next chapter of her story, that is until she wakes up with a killer hangover and no recollection of the night before.

When a handsome stranger breaks into her apartment, shedding light on her missing memories and insisting she’s a newly turned vampire, Piper has to come to terms with the fact that her life has been turned upside down in a seriously supernatural way.

Thrust into the city’s paranormal underworld, a secret vampire society ruled by the ruthless vampire king and suddenly bound to darkness, Piper begins to wonder if it’s possible to live between both worlds while fighting to keep her addictive past from turning into an uncontrollable thirst.

For anyone who’s a total Twilight/vampire addict (raises hand) and is craving their next fanged fix after binge reading Midnight Sun, “Immortal Poison” wonderfully captures the chemistry between newly turned vampire Piper, and her cool, dark sexy sire, Bane. Piper has worked really hard to get back on her feet after a drug overdose two years ago nearly cost her everything. Now she lives in a new apartment in Philadelphia with the support of her best friend Kit and tends bar. Life is looking up… at least until she’s bitten by a vampire and changed into an immortal with a thirst for blood that could threaten her recent success in addiction recovery.

I devoured each scene of slow build between her and Bane, particularly his frequent break ins at her apartment. He’s dark and brooding and hiding a secret past. Piper is headstrong and will fight to get some semblance of her former life back. And of course, like any good love story, theirs comes with jealousies that unfold, lots of secrets to be revealed, and histories that only later come into play. I was riveted in the second half of the book by certain events involving Kit that I won’t spoil here, but let’s just say that I really hope there’s going to be a book two!

I enjoyed reading this it was entertaining from beginning to end. It is a quick read that will leave you wanting more. Piper is a recovering addict and her only friend and family is her best friend Kit who has always been there for her. She now needs to depend on another when she meets Bane the irresistible and charming vampire who she shares an immediate connection who has turned her into a vampire. She has to trust Bane to help her through her transition and figure out her new way of life which won't be easy.

Fantastic steamy summer read! The supernatural connection between Bane and Piper leads to the kinds of romance scenes you won't be able to put down. When girl next door Piper finds herself unwittingly tangled up in the dangerous high society of vampire betrayal and intrigue, she must adapt or risk loosing everything, because the vampires will only allow her risky, unconventional behaviors to continue for so long. You'll be turning the pages to find out if her undeniable connection to Bane will save her or doom her. This is a book that keeps you guessing until the final pages!

There were good ideas and some twists that I liked but I needed a bit more fleshing of the characters as I couldn't get a real feel of them. There was some darkness, some challenges and weaknesses due to difficult pasts which kept the story interesting.
It is a book that would be liked by fans of vampires and friendships.

Immortal Poison was given to me by the author for a review. I really enjoyed this book, it was typically not my cup of tea, but Lorelei Wright has the writer's skill that entraps the reader to keep on reading. I was devouring this book. It was filled with twists and turns I didn't see coming. The climax of this story was when things got real good. Like ahhhh, no way, yesss, I'm so happy an author has the same thought style as I do. So many vampire stories have the same old thing, Ms. Wright's is just new and a breath of fresh air. Piper was such a relatable character and Bane was nothing of what I expected, he went beyond and was more amazing. We can't forget about Kit, he's the best friend everyone needs in their life. I will definitely read more of her books. Five stars with a HEA.

An absorbing story of vampire love!
by sewsummore

Piper became the enemy of a female vampire and almost died as a result. Luckily she was found by another vampire near death and turned her, saving Piper's life but leaving her an immortal vampire. Having recovered from drug addiction, Piper was happy to discover she was a vampire with an addiction to blood. Bane watched over Piper, visiting her, ensuring she had sufficient blood supplies, and teaching all she needed to know about being a vampire. Gradually Bane was able to gain her trust and the attraction to each other they both felt from their first meeting re-surfaced once again. When Piper learns that Bane has lied to her, she leaves him and removes him from her life, much to Bane's displeasure. I found this book an absorbing read with well-developed characters and a storyline that flowed smoothly. I liked the author's characterization of Piper, and Kit has been family for each other since they were children. They were very close, and when Bane was included in their relationship, I was surprised at how well Kit accepted and bonded with Bane, including him, into their family group.

I was kindly sent an ARC by the author to review for you. The following is my unbiased, honest opinion.
Piper James is living her perfect life. After a near drug overdose 2 years ago, her best friend Kit relocated them to Philadelphia and continues to watch over her. After waking up with what seems to be a huge hangover, she gets the shock of her life when a mystery man breaks into her apartment to tell her she's a vampire.
Ya know there are a million and one vampire tales but this is the first one I've found that has a central theme of addiction. It's not something heavily discussed in young adult literature. I really love how the story flows by having a chapter set in the present followed by a couple set a few weeks earlier. For me, it adds to the overall drama and intrigue of the story but also the characters. This opening chapter gives you a glimpse into the normal life of these two before all the bitey bitey and blood.
What seems like a typical YA vampire romance novel turns out to be quite deep and a little complex too. I enjoyed the twists and turns in the tale and certainly didn't expect what comes at the end. Overall, a thoroughly enjoyable read.

Not really my cup of tea. Four d it really frustrating back and forth from different povs of the characters. And the time frames aswell. The reactions of the characters I thought was rather bland also.
