Prevent the Past #2

A Destiny Reborn

Rate this book
Lost in a timeline that was never theirs…

Thrust into a world they barely comprehend, two time travelers are forced to survive with only each other as allies.

Claire Finch, the kind, bubbly scientist, has sacrificed her hidden dreams for the cause: to prevent the apocalypse and save the world.

Cyrus Montgomery, a tough, stoic soldier weary from the battle scars of war and barren dystopia.

Together, they traverse the unfamiliar circumstances, both fighting and denying their mutual attraction.

But destiny can be manipulated by unseen forces, and as they navigate the uncharted timeline, they discover a united strength they never possessed apart…and learn that true love ultimately prevails if the warnings of the past are heeded with caution and diligence.

The Prevent the Past series is best read in order. After all, it's a time travel series that is already pretty complex! But there are steamy love stories, edge of your seat action scenes, and awesome twists if you dig in. Enjoy!

I’ve been eagerly waiting for this second installment in the “Prevent the Past” series and it’s finally here! Claire and Cyrus have been accidentally sent back to 2002 rather than 2035 as planned, and while waiting to see if super brilliant scientist Laney rebuilds the time machine and comes to get them, they devise a plan to research Laney’s grandfather Edward Randolph, who will one day far in the future destroy the world in a mass nuclear attack. This seriously has so many awesome time travel paradoxes and fun science geekery moments that I can’t even. There is plotting. Surprise allies and enemies. Twists you don’t see coming (no spoilers here!) And a hilarious hair dye scene that will have you in stitches. I love how real Claire and Cyrus are. These are older characters (and a May/December couple at that) and delightfully flawed. I loved Laney’s imperfect belly in book one and I love that Claire isn’t thin as a reed in this one. Beauty comes in many forms and these brilliant, resourceful heroines are a great read (and seriously, if you are going to try to take over the world, you’d better check Claire for fingernail clippers first.) And ooo… those last few chapters left me absolutely on the edge of my seat with hints of what may be in store for book three!!!

Please excuse typos/name misspellings. Entered on screen reader.

“Your lips are so soft, Claire,” he whispered, the words vibrating against her lips as he barely grazed her.

“I was just thinking the same about you.”

He scowled.  “Men don’t have soft lips.  Mine are manly and strong.”

PLEASE, THIS IS SO CUTE AND FUNNY.

Claire and Cyrus got stranded in 2002 because the time machine malfunctioned. Cyrus lands wrong on his ankle which sends them to a doctor called Vivian who will be important later. Her daughter is Marie, the same eighty year old from book one who's very perceptive.

It's pretty clear Lainey and Hunter aren't coming back for them yet, so Claire and Cyrus get to researching Lainey's grandfather so they can help in smaller ways that won't make the world go up in flames.

But researching is no easy task. The future president is just a puppet being controlled, and the people in the shadows have their eye on the two time travellers and are ready to stop them if need be.

Along the way they're struggling with their feelings for each other. It's mainly Cyrus who's resisting, but don't worry, it'll work out.

This is my favourite book so far (we'll see how book three goes), Cyrus and Claire really are awesome. I'm surprised Cyrus was the one to make the first move though, I was sure it would be Claire.

Not a lot happened main plot wise but it's alright, that's what the next book is for. Likewise, not much science except Claire's random geek outs about the technology of the past (and hair dye!!!).

That last chapter was so mean, I'm glad I don't have to wait long to continue the story.

And then there's this:
“Vivian,” she said, extending her elbow, which had become the norm ever since the coronavirus pandemic in 2020.

THAT MADE ME LAUGH SO HARD. But it's also sad, it might really happen.

It was shorter than book one and I think it would've been nice to see the kid being born and growing up a bit since these two would be great parents. Oh well.

Audiobook review:

The Prevent the Past series is officially my new favorite romantic series!

In A Destiny Reborn, we follow Claire and Cyrus back in time to 2002. Separated from their friends and with only themselves to look out for each other, they have to navigate both this new world and their feelings for each other.

Only Hefner could write a book in which we already know mostly how it ends and still make it compelling and impossible to put down. I lapped up this story. Claire was one of my favorite characters in the last book and she was even more lovable and, as she would put it, bad ass, in this one!

Although we were told how things would end in the last book, the story was still filled with twists and turns I never saw coming, including cameos from some of the other characters as their younger selves which I loved!

I can’t wait to finish this series! It is seriously one of the best written romance stories I have found yet!

*I was given a free copy of this audiobook from Authors Direct and this is my honest, voluntary review.*

A Destiny Reborn
by Rebecca Hefner
Narrated by Heather Firth
Series Prevent the Past #2

Prevent the Past has me hooked! This is book two of the series, A Destiny Reborn and features Claire and Cyrus. We met them in the first book, could feel their attraction, but they never acted on it. Now thrown from the year 2035 to the year 2002, the two are alone in the past trying to prevent an apocalypse. Cyrus feels he is too old for the young Claire, but with their chemistry, even the future won't stop it. But this story is more than just about the romance. It's about the past and the craziness that people will go to for greed and destruction. And it's about finding the people who can help without damaging their future selves. It's so fun to see Marie as a child knowing her from the first book. The race for peace is on, and it's up to this team to save the world. Smartly written, a touch of sci fi, a touch of romance and a lot of intrigue has me awaiting the final book to come out on audio!

Heather Firth continues her narration of this amazing story. I love her voice and her understanding of her characters. Each has a their own sound, and she gives them the perfect nuances to make them realistic and believable. I can't wait for her next one!

Rebecca Hefner is back with a bang with Cyrus and Claire’s story from her ‘Prevent the Past’ series. A Destiny Reborn is the sequel to A Paradox of Fates and is best enjoyed when read in order.

A Destiny Reborn starts with Cyrus and Claire attempting to travel back in time to 2035 to assist Hunter and Lainey with their mission to save the world from destruction. But, things go awry when their compound gets attacked. As a result, they end up in a timeline they were not prepared for, with only each other as allies.

Claire was energetic, bubbly and so full of life that you couldn’t help but smile with her. She was also brave, smart and persistent. Claire was amazing in A Paradox of Fates but this book gave a new dimension to her character which I loved. Her persistence and resolve in making Cyrus act on their feelings for each other and in helping him cope with his issues was amazing.

Cyrus was incredibly protective of Claire and treated her with kindness which was exactly what Claire needed. His stoic nature was perfect to counter her vivacious spirit. He was an amazing hero. The moment of his acceptance of his love for Claire was beautiful. His love for her was evident in his every move.

Stuck in a different timeline with no idea if and when they will be rescued, Cyrus and Claire, along with a few supporting characters they come across, start to do whatever they can to assist Lainey and Hunter with their plan. They start to collect information on Lainey’s grandfather who was set to destroy the world in 2035 and tried to thwart any attempts that could change the future. They meet some supporting characters like Zander Katz and Dr. Vivian Elders (Marie’s mother) along the way who help them with their mission. The supporting characters were amazing like always, although, there were times that I did miss Hunter’s wit and Lainey’s scientific brain.

I really enjoyed Cyrus and Claire’s journey and the role they played in saving the world. I can’t wait to see what’s in store for the rest of them.

Second book in this series and we find Cyrus and Claire being sent into the past, but a hitch actually sends them back to a different time and without their team!

Quick recap …… we know when the apocalypse hits, we also know who triggers it. So a group of scientists are figuring how to travel in time to stop it from happening. I would recommend reading book one as it does fill in a few gaps.

In book one (A Paradox of Fates) we get to meet Claire and I did hope she would get a story.
She comes across as feisty but brainy. She can run circles around Cyrus in the brains department, but bows to Cyrus’s ability to strategic abilities.

Cyrus is a weary soldier, tired of always fighting. But he has a job to do…. Well it’s a job he volunteers for, protect Claire.
Claire is a smart scientist, she’s part of the team that are working to right the wrongs of the future.
By going into the past they can change the course of history, but there is a group that don’t want the future changed, and spies are everywhere!

Cyrus has fancied Claire ever since he first saw her, but he thinks he’s too old for her, and a battle hardened solider shouldn’t have someone like her!
Claire fancies Cyrus. But neither will act on it. So when they are dropped into the incorrect time zone, Claire and Cyrus have to either figure a way to help the future, or stay out of the way so they don’t cause more problems.

Mystery and suspense with a whole lot of time travelling shenanigans.
It doesn’t bog us down with too much technology speak! It doesn’t bore us with jumping back and forward unnecessarily.
It does give us thrills and a few answers to the previous book and now a few more questions that we hope will be answered in the next book.

It’s steamy, but not at the cost of a good storyline.
A few moments that will have you chuckling. And a few moments that will have you wondering where this story will take you.

And now I’m ready for book three……

I received and ARC copy in return for my honest opinion.
Time travellers Cyrus and Claire are sent to the wrong year. They don't expect to be rescued but think they can still play a part in preventing the apocalyptic future they come from from ever happening. Cyrus and Claire are in love with each other but have never acted on it. Being in a different timeline changes that (for the best if you ask me!). This part two of the trilogy, I recommend you don't jump straight into this one without reading bk1 first because you need the full picture to understand all the twists and implications of what happens in this book. I liked Claire from bk1 and Cyrus won me in this one. I can't wait to see what Rebbecca has planned for bk3.

A Destiny Reborn is the second book in author Rebecca Hefner’s newest series, “Prevent the Past”. This story continues on from the previous book and is best read in order. It’s a fabulous series to date and I highly recommend reading it!

This story focuses on two characters we met in the previous book, Claire and Cyrus. It was obvious that these two had feelings towards one another, but Cyrus felt he was too old and not good enough for Claire. Claire had her own insecurities and neither one was brave enough to take a chance and act on their love for each other. But then at the end of the previous story, Clair and Cyrus who were supposed to be transported to 2035, end up in 2002 alone!

So this is the story of how Claire and Cyrus finally get together! I loved both characters in the previous story and was looking forward to seeing the big, strong Cyrus finally admit his love for Claire. They were a wonderful couple and both deserved their HEA. Ms. Hefner did a wonderful job of weaving a love story for Claire and Cyrus along with giving us more details to piece together the past. The writing as always is fabulous with captivating characters and a storyline that captures you and doesn’t let go until you make it to the end! I’m truly enjoying this series and can’t wait to see what Ms. Hefner has in store for the final book in this series! Absolutely loved it!

*review for the audiobook version*

I love Cyrus and Claire so much! They are a perfect pair, working so well together in what they're trying to accomplish. Their chemistry is so palpable, making my heart swell and my body heat. They stole my heart as their journey together unfolded.

Cyrus and Claire have known each other for a while now and worked side by side. Their attraction for each other growing stronger but they've never acted on it. Cyrus doesn't feel worthy of Claire, being older and not feeling like they have the same goals in mind for the future. Claire couldn't think of a better man to have at her side than Cyrus, he's perfect in her eyes. As time goes on, its hard to see any reason not to act on it.

They're stuck in a different timeline and trying to find out everything they can about their cause. Things start to go awry as they collect more information, unforseen forces trying to put a stop to it. But their not going down without a fight and they don't have to do it alone, they have help with some allies/friends they've made.

I reveled in the steam, the moments Claire and Cyrus shared we so freaking yummy! The action and the suspense kept me on my toes. I'm so excited to start the next book, to see how everything plays out. I really enjoyed the narration, the narrator did a phenomenal job and I didn't want to stop listening. This author brought it on every level, just perfection!

Rebecca has once again blown my mind and knocked my socks off at the same time, Claire and Cyrus’s story was one I was highly anticipating after reading the first book and she delivered a story about a spunky take charge woman and a battle worn soldier in the wrong time who now have nothing but each other. When your in a situation where you can only rely on each other it just adds a layer of feelings to the story that only this series can accomplish.

If I could describe Claire and Cyrus they would be the Batman and Robin of 2002, these two are hysterical in their antics and have this rag tag team vibe in trying to help not only their friend Lainey who we meet in book one but to help each other in a new world that’s unfamiliar to them.

What was really the stand out for me personally was Claire’s personality, she is a FORCE guys!!! Like you might as well call her Hurricane Claire because she will blow through before you even realize what hit you, I LOVE the spunk she gives and the take charge of all her situations attitude to oozes, she’s definitely no damsel in distress and will never be.

A Destiny Reborn is definitely a fun, action packed read with lots of laughs, some great characters, an intense/intriguing story, and is a story at its core about having a foundation, if you take anything away from book two it’s that of you don’t live for you and build a foundation with someone you love than your essentially not embracing what you have in front of you.

When a trip back through time goes awry, Claire and Cyrus find themselves in a time with no connections to the rest of their team. Maybe being on their own will allow them to finally have the lives they truly want...

This second book in the Prevent the Past series, by Rebecca Hefner, continued to enthrall me. I loved finding out what happened to Claire and Cyrus while getting hints of what's to come in the next book.

Heather Firth did a great job with the narration. She brought the characters and their story to life.

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and I have voluntarily left this review.

A DESTINY REBORN shows us what happened when Claire and Cyrus went into the time machine from the first book. I was really curious to see how things progressed since we got a few hints of their journey and I especially wanted to see how they fell in love since they were so sweet together in the first book. While Rebecca Hefner gives a nice overview of the first book I would highly recommend reading this in order because I think it makes a lot more sense that way and the stakes are higher when you understand what's really going on.

Overall, I liked this one and I especially loved Claire! She's a total firecracker and I have a huge girl crush on this bold, vibrant, and outspoken heroine. She's super smart, never gives up, and can certainly rescue herself. But that doesn't stop Cyrus from trying to protect her and I found them really great together. Cyrus believes that Claire deserves someone better and he tries to keep her at a distance but Claire is having none of that! It was great to watch Cyrus fall deeper in love with Claire and realize that he is worthy of her love and that no one will take better care of her.

Because Claire and Cyrus ended up in the wrong year and they no longer have contact with Lainey or Hunter, it did make this story feel a bit disconnected from the first book. They aren't even sure if they'll ever see the rest of the science hub group again so Claire just wants to see what information about Randolph they can find. I also was a little thrown by them seeing Marie as a little girl. It felt like this would have created some kind of paradox and made me wonder why grown up Marie from the first book didn't have any memory of Claire or Cyrus (at least that we were told about). That being said, there were a few new surprises and questions that have me wondering about events in the next book.

Pleasantly Surprised!

This is not normally the type of books that I read, but I decided to read this series because I was intrigued by the plot. Claire and Cyrus are probably the most relatable characters to me. Also, plot twists and the intricacies of time travel! A good read for those wanting to escape the world for a bit

This is book two of the Prevent the Past series and this tells the story of scientist Claire Finch and much older soldier Cyrus Montgomery, as they face a return to the past, but not to the time they expected. They had been living in the post-apocalyptic world, destroyed by a nuclear war, and were secluded in a hidden scientific hub on what was left of the States. They were supposed to be sent back to the year 2035, in a plan to stop the then President of the US from pushing the button on all his country’s nuclear weapons, targeting places all around the world. President Randolph was part of the New Establishment, an organisation that used him to destroy the world and kill off all those who thought democracy was the way the world should be run, and by 2075, had nearly taken over the whole of what was left of the four areas of the world. Lainey Randolph was the granddaughter of the President who set off the apocalypse and had been raised to create a time machine, to allow her team to travel back in time to stop all of this. Luke was sent through as the first human test subject, with Lainey and Captain Hunter Rhodes sent next. Just as Claire and Cyrus were in the machine, Eli and some soldiers from the New Establishment, stormed the hidden bunker they were in and tried to stop anyone else going back in time.

Whatever happened next caused them to be sent back to 2002, unknown to them, with Cyrus receiving a bad ankle injury as they flew through the portal and landed roughly. They wait to see if anyone else is coming through or if Lainey will meet up with them, but nobody shows. Claire has to go off to try and get some help for Cyrus, finding out from a passing security guard that they are not anywhere near where they expected in time, but in the right place just without their hideout even being built yet! Claire has been attracted to Cyrus for years, but always thought he didn’t return these feelings at all, especially because of the large age gap and different future life wishes. Now they have been thrown together and have only each other to rely upon, as they must make a new future for themselves, whilst also working to find any information they can about Randolph and any other people who are involved in the setup of the New Establishment organisation. They soon learn they are being watched by members of this group, as they seek help from Marie’s mother, who helped in her neighbourhood to give medical assistance to those not served by other places. She helps with Cyrus and the two of them meet Marie as a very young girl, which brings about a few amusing conversations and witty insights.

Claire starts researching at the local library, but is soon in trouble as someone wants to stop her actions in the near future, to make their own timeline succeed. It soon becomes obvious that they aren’t the only ones to have mastered or appropriated time travel, but at least they don’t seem to be stuck in the time loop Lainey experiences. They still have an important part to play in the plan to stop President Randolph and will see Lainey again, to receive an update, as well as pass on all that they have found out. Cyrus drops his inhibitions whilst on pain meds and allows his hidden feelings for Claire to be tested, but regrets it the next morning and refuses to allow her to even think about being with him. Luckily, she is a very stubborn person and she isn’t going to take his decision as final. In this time, she might finally have a chance to live and make decisions about how her life works out, rather than continue with the original plan they would have followed if they ended up in the correct time. They find a great ally and are soon even more connected to Marie and her mother, as their lives become linked. I loved how Claire managed to wear down Cyrus and his objections to any sort of relationship between them, as he insisted on concentrating on their mission. A HEA ending for the pair as they find out details of their futures, from different timeline experiences of others and need to make the most of the day they have, as they know any day could be their last, as the future has already shown them! Best to read these in order, so you know more about the background to the stories, but also a self-contained tale of these two characters mainly. I received an ARC copy of this book from BookSprout and I have freely given my own opinion of the book above.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

We continue on with the adventures of our scientists trying to prevent the POTUS from detonating the nukes in 2035! But this time we're headed back even further, to 2002, to find out how the New Establishment actually began, that nothing is ever what it seems, and that there's now going to be a final push because we're apparently in the last of the loops. Our main characters are Cyrus and Claire this time around, the soldier and the quirky, bubbly scientist, who turns into more of a warrior as time goes on, and a fluke sends them back to 2002 where they then proceed to still somehow help the cause even though no one is coming for them. And in the process, they discover things about themselves, their own identities, and their love, which is definitely worth fighting for!

With them then established in the past with their new lives, and their children going on to fight the fight for them, the stage is set for the final confrontations - because it looks like the New Establishment still doesn't know Eli, their future leader, is actually a dark horse and is working to dismantle everything from within.

Or do they?

Slightly removed from the rest of the action given it happens so far back in the past from what is present-day in the book, Cyrus and Claire's story is still significant because it sets everything up and shows that maybe, MAYBE, Randolph isn't the real bad guy in this, and that there's a more complicated answer to it all, especially with Elaine, Claire's daughter, actually working for the man.

But overall, what we uncover about the overarching plot is definitely important and this makes this book worth a read, plus if you liked Cyrus and Claire before, you're bound to fall in love with them now, too.

I will say I wasn't the biggest fan of Claire when the book begins - she struck me as a bit too childish (even though that seems to be a driving trait for her throughout) and so incredibly naive it was a miracle someone before Sebastian didn't just pluck her off the street. Cyrus is very right to be mad about her not telling him something that pertains to their safety - aka Randolph actually seeing them and the potential of them being followed - but it turns out that there ARE authors out there who stil believe in actual, sensible character development.

Claire undergoes a metamorphosis where she sheds all the insecurities and drawbacks that held her back in the future where she was just another cog in the wheel, and she becomes her own person with her own motivations, who knows what she wants and fights for it. She also brings the unique perspective of someone who didn't actually have a choice about the fight itself, and who wants a normal life if she can have it.

Cyrus also develops more from the stoic soldier we meet in the first book, because he opens himself up to the possibility of love and family with Claire, despite the fact he's so against it at the start, thinking himself too old and much too damaged from fighting the war that's been going on in their reality. Still, the biggest changes are definitely Claire's, because she becomes an amazing PI, working with Zander, and she's the one who blackmails one of the Knights in the timeline so that they can get information and try and head off Sebastian.

All in all, it's a nice balance between romance and action, and I will admit I was more interested in the plot of the overarching storyline than the love story, myself, because we learn that Vivian fell in love with a Randolph who had some moral stance, and left him because he was beginning to change. She herself has a rigid moral code that doesn't align with the Knights OR the New Establishment, but it does show us where Marie got it from later.

And with Laney now owning a functional time machine that can send her wherever she chooses, obviously, it's time to see whether or not our heroes will prevail.

I can't wait!

Excellent Story But Marred by Elements of Power Play

Audiobook Review:
I found the first book of this series intriguing, and I liked the couple at the core of this next book as well. I was looking forward to both the continuation of the series’ overall plot (save the future by preventing the past) and this couple's story. Unfortunately, though I was ultimately disappointed in the latter enough to DNF the book, I liked the part of the overarching story this book told. The couple accidentally got sent to the wrong place in time to help prevent the pivotal event that changes the future in terrible ways. I liked their resilience and how they figured out they still might be able to help the ultimate goal even if they weren't sent to the right time. I like them as a couple. He's an older, tough soldier who believes the world offers him no softness (especially love), and she's a brilliant young scientist. It was clear even in the other book that they were both attracted to each other, but not until this book do they come clean about that and start to act on it. What I didn't like, and the reason why I stopped listening to the book is that it had an element of, to use the polite term, power play. I'm just not a fan of that whatsoever in any kind of romance, contemporary to historical to sci-fi to fantasy. It's an utter turnoff, so that's why I did eventually “turn off” this audiobook. I'm still invested in the overarching story, and I'm actually looking forward to book three of this. I just wish this book hadn't had that element so I could have listened to the whole thing without that “ick” factor.

3.5 stars rounded down to 3; would have been a 4 without the power play elements

I received a promo code for this audiobook, but that did not affect my review.

A DESTINY REBORN is the second book in the Prevent the Past series. This time, instead of going back to 2035, we go even further and land in 2002. Claire and Cyrus have very little and only each other to count on. So what do they do?

Well, Claire gets kidnapped, for a start. And does she need rescuing? Hell no! This beauty rescues herself with a pair of fingernail clippers (absolutely inspired!!!) She is a total badass in this book and I loved her for it. I also loved how protective over her Cyrus was. Even when he denied her, it was only because he wanted the best for her. I'm just glad Claire wore him down and helped him realise just what he'd be missing.

Once again full of plot twists, there was one that made me sad - the one about Claire's daughter. Claire thought she was doing something amazing for the timeline - and she did for Marie, but when it came out just exactly how her daughter would help in the future, it broke me a little. I'm sincerely hoping Ms Hefner will pull another rabbit out of the hat and give me a different version!

I can't wait to read the final in this trilogy to see it all come together. A brilliant addition to the series.

Listened to this story with Author’s Direct. Narrator did a great job. She gave a quality performance! Recommend listening!

This is book 2 in this series; it follows what happened to Claire and Cyrus when they are set back in time to 2002 instead of 2035. They are part of a time-traveling team that hopes to stop an apocalyptic event. Claire and Cyrus try to find out ways to help in 2002, but that causes some dangerous people to be after them. I liked Claire’s sass and how she stands up for herself. Love how she isn’t a damsel. Cyrus is a bit of a pain, but I love how protective he is of Claire. They both are in love with each other, but Cyrus keeps pushing Claire away because he’s older and thinks she deserves better than him. He’s 42 and she’s 30, so the age isn’t that big of a deal, so his hot/cold routine is annoying at times. Still some sweetness and steam between them; they have a good connection. I really enjoy the time travel aspect of this series; I would’ve liked a bit more overall story progression for the series and more action, but this is still an interesting story. Not a fan that they just gave up on helping save the world, but I get it. Overall, exciting to read the next book!

If you are going to read any of the books in the Prevent the Past series, read A Destiny Reborn. This one can be read as a standalone. (Although, I recommend the entire series).

Before they time traveled, Claire and Cyrus were already attracted to one another, although neither had let on. When their trip to the past took them even further into history than intended, a great relationship between the friends may be the last thing they are thinking of. But it may prove to be the most important asset.

Claire and Cyrus working together to figure out how to live in the past is what made me fall for these characters. And while the romance was a foregone conclusion, I enjoyed the evolution of their friendship into something much more. I also enjoyed the connection to a younger version of Marie from book 1.

Throughout the story, the reader wonders how Claire and Cyrus are going to make it back to the mainstream of the story and connect with their friends. (Actually, you only wonder if you have not read book 1.) Being complicated, time travel cannot easily fix things. The final outcome for Claire and Cyrus and what it will mean for their friends proves to be perfect.

Thanks to the author who provided a copy of her book in exchange for my honest review.

Book 2 in the series. I recommend reading the books in order to get the most out of the series. This book picks up where the first left off. The characters are now time traveling, with the henchmen out to find them. As fate would have it, time travel is an imprecise science, and they land in the wrong decade. Accidents happen, and how do you navigate a world to find medical care, when you are in the wrong decade/century? Loved meeting Marie as a spunky child, easy to see how she became the adult she is.
Great touch, adding real life details such as COVID to the story line. Another great story!

I felt the narration could have been better. It was smoothly spoken and well-modulated, however there was little distinction between the voices, especially male voices. This was a little better than in the first book.

I received a free copy of this audiobook, and am voluntarily giving my honest review.

This book starts immediately after Lainey and Hunter are sent to 2035 so we find out what happens when Claire and Cyrus are transported next but accidentally end up in 2002 instead of with Lainey and Hunter. Claire and Cyrus end up having to play their own part in the mission only several decades earlier than planned but when the New Establishment is already deeply engrained in the world.

Such an unexpected turn of events was so fun to read for this series. The story is starting to come together but each piece fits so well by itself too. I've really enjoyed this series, we learn about the characters a bit before but now that they are front and center its so much easier to love them. This book was all spice and angst with lots of drama and twists and turns every step. Can't wait to see how it all comes together.

Clare and Cyrus end up in 2002 rather than 2035

Claire and Cyrus are the second pair to be sent back to 2035 to stop President Randolph from nuking the world. However, as they are being sent back, the hub is invaded and Zach sends them back to 2002. Cyrus hurts his ankle during the landing and now they have to find a way to get him treated in this timeline. They find Doc Viv and her daughter Marie (who is a member of their team from 2075). Now they find out that Marie may be the daughter of the President. Several evil guys try to prevent Claire and Cyrus from protecting Doc Viv and Marie. And during this timeline, Claire decides she wants to stay there and not try to rejoin the team in 2035. The pieces start falling into place in this second book in the trilogy. Nice to get to know Claire and Cyrus better.

A Destiny Reborn is the second of Rebecca Hefner’s”Prevent the Past” trilogy. Claire and Cyrus were both introduced in the first book with their devotion to the cause and resistance against their strong mutual attraction. Claire and Cyrus’s romance across time and space is heartwarming. Their actions in the timeline they’re sent to do impact the overall story in a meaningful way, but the book two story is really about their romance and the decisions they make. It’s hard not to fall in love with these two very human characters thrust into danger that tests their abilities, loyalties and ingenuity. Sit back and enjoy. You’re in for a treat! The Prevent the Past series returns with book two following Claire and Cyrus. These two are part of the time traveling group that is to stop an apocalypse. Claire and Cyrus end up in the wrong time and they have to lean on each other to survive. These two work well together and are the perfect match. The chemistry these two have has been building for a long time. Can Claire convince Cyrus that he is worthy of her love?

This story has action, adventure, mystery, steam, and surprises. The twists and turns in this tale will have you wondering what happens next. Can’t wait to see what Rebecca Hefner has in store for the ending of this series.

This is the second book in the excellent Prevent the Past series, a Sci-Fi and Time Travel Romance. The story continues where the first book left off. This time, we follow Claire and Cyrus's adventures. Claire is young, sassy, smart, strong, and determined. Cyrus is older, handsome, and protective. I liked their slow burn romance. The world building is well built, really interesting, and captivating. The storyline has an ongoing plot, and it is better to listen to this series in order. The mystery is intricate, and entertaining. Heather Firth did a fantastic job with the narration. I love her voice! Looking forward to listening to A Timeline Restored, the next book in the series. If you like Sci-Fi and Time Travel Romance, this series is definitely for you!

I really enjoyed reading the story of Claire and Cyrus's adventures after being accidentally thrown back to 2002 from 2075, instead of 2035 as planned.

Although the story flowed awkwardly on occasion, I really enjoyed watching Clare's new personality and confidence emerge and especially enjoyed the detective work they did.

As always, wrapping my head around the time travel paradoxes did my head in, but I liked the way the story unfolded and have my fingers crossed that everyone finds what they're looking for in the third and final book in the series.

Note: I was provided with a review copy of this book free of charge, and am leaving this review voluntarily.

Time travel audiobooks have never been my genre BUT I absolutely LOVE Rebecca Hefner's Etherya's Earth series so I had to try her Prevent the Past series.
This is the 2nd audiobook in this series i have listened to so that just solidified to me that Rebecca Hefner can write exceptional books in any genre.
This is Claire and Cyrus's story. They go back to 2002 and can't find the rest of their team. Will these opposites attract or retract from each other? You have to listen to the audiobook or read the ebook to find out. Take a leap of faith, you won't be disappointed.
Rebecca Hefner's a top notch author and I can't wait to listen to book 3!!

This is the 2nd book in the series and to really understand it you’ll need to read the 1st one. I enjoyed Claire and Cyrus’s story and it had a sweet HEA. They didn’t end up in the same time as Lainey and Hunter but it fits them. It’s crazy to think they are going back to change things that were already set to happen so the past they are changing doesn’t seem to be changed at all, so I’m really curious as to how they are going to prevent a future that is following things that are still happening but they think they are changing. It’s a crazy paradox loop of events. I listened to the audio book and it was enjoyable to listen to.

What do you do when your travel destination has been overshot by a few decades? You fight your attraction to the one stuck with you while waiting for the uber-brainy scientist to fix things of course.
This is the continuation of the Prevent the Past series. Once again Hefner does a good job with world-building. You feel as if you are right there experiencing the heated glances, touches, and the humorous way the duo plays off of each other. I think the series moves well and the characters are interesting, funny, and sexy. I would recommend this series.
