This one from Cassandra Robbins is the very best kind of gritty romance. Seriously damaged hero. Beautifully brave heroine. My reading Catnip! It's definitely her strongest writing to date! It's book two in the series but is a complete standalone.

It explores topics that aren't easy to read about and she does them beautifully. The pain, the remorse and the self hatred pour from the pages. David is a seriously broken man and once you find out his reasons you will understand the path his life has taken.

The chemistry between the main characters is explosive and so believable. He's deliciously dirty and draws out her inner desires. Serious need of new panties with these two!

I loved their banter, their character growth and the genuine love you could feel between them Couple this with fantastic supporting characters (who all need their own story - hint, hint) and an ending that had me gasping out loud and I was sold. Definitely recommend if you like your alphas a little on the dark side.

I wasn't a big fan of David after the Entitled Duet (if you haven't read them then you REALLY need to get on that). When I heard about this book and knew it was his story I was quite excited about it and felt totally fine spreading the word about it because I just KNEW and had total faith that Cassandra was going to change my mind about him. I was right.... through the eyes of Charlie, my feelings on this man changed before I was even 25% in! I started this book in the morning and was finished the same night!

David has had some bad stuff happen and didn't deal with it well, and now he thinks that he is broken beyond repair and is no good for Charlie. Despite this he can not seem to stay away from her. Their pull is too strong. I ran through a whole lot of emotions while reading this story. There is so much loss and pain felt, some truly heartbreaking moments. And then there are the sweet moments that make you feel like it is all totally worth it! Basically this book is a MUST READ. Another "more than 5 star" read for me.

You also get to know bits and pieces of some of the other members of the MC. I am so intrigued by them! I can not wait to see what their stories are! I am so ready for all the tears, laughter, heartbreak and love that this world of the Disciples has to offer..... I AM HERE FOR IT!!! Bring on all the bikers! (And Doug.... I need his story too).

The narration on this was pretty decent. I wasn't sure if I was going to be sold on Troy as David because I had an idea in my head on how he should sound. He didn't sound that way, but he still was a very convincing David in ways that I hadn't thought of before. Veronica was a different story. Unfortunately I was unable to get in the story parts that she narrated. I just wasn't getting the feels from her.

David (Poet) and Charlie (Charlize) met long ago - he liked her, but she was young and he was unavailable. She felt like she loved him from the moment they met, like they were soulmates. He too, was taken with her, but life threw in some tragic events and David lost his way.

David comes back to town years later. Charlie still has those same feelings, as does David.

David is back in town to deal with some issues, with help from his MC Club - his cousin Blade is the President. David has memories that won't go away, he has been trying to deal with them, but his memories and nightmares take him down a dark hole.

He needs to make certain people ATONE for their part in the tragedy, but first he has to find out who they are.

Great Book!!

Atone : make amends or reparation

Keep the title and meaning of the word in your mind while reading Cassandra’s continuation of my new favorite MC dynasty.

It’s not a smooth ride for David in life, he has a darkness to fight and sins to atone for. I love his darkness, his smirk. The relationships we get to see in Atone are far and beyond what we saw even in Lethal. The strands of brotherhood are tested to their limits and you get to see true character development through these trials.

Meeting someone like Charlie is a bright spot in David’s life. One that won’t burn out because Cassandra has created a heroine that is going to get what she wants, at ANY cost! Her true feelings and fighting for those take precedence over everything.

I found it real and perfect and dark. I love that David is Disciples born and bred and to his roots he will stay true.

The side plots and appearances from other Cass characters is especially fun and refreshing. Perfectly placed moments of laugh out loud craziness provided by the Disciples gang is just the perfect balance to the deeper story.

My two faves?! Pool time with the Disciple ladies and a DIVE BAR outing!!!!! I love a good dive bar!

Once a Disciple. Always a Disciple.

First off there are not enough stars on this page to rate how much I Loved this book. Lethal (Blade) had my heart, but Cassandra has done it and knocked him off the top.

David is a beautifully broken man who has suffered so much. I can say at one point I literally got tingles in my chest reading this and it caught me off guard. I can't say I have had that happen and it felt like my heart was breaking but also happy at the same time. Hard to explain it but this book definately gave me a lot of feels.

If you love someone, let them go. If they come back then it was meant to be. This stands true for these 2 in so many ways.

This one is different but the story it beautifully written.

Atone is book 2 in The Disciples series and while I really enjoyed this book, towards the end I did start to lose interest. I loved the connection between Charlie and David, but I did get tired of David's hot and cold behavior and Charlie's desperate need for him. While I understood David's behavior, I felt it made the story drag and eventually made me lose some interest. Same goes for Charlie, I understood that she's been in love with him since she was younger and although most of her behavior I was fine with, towards the end she became close to pathetic. I look forward to reading Edge and Dolly next.

Not good. I started this immediately after finishing book 1, which was an ok story.

But I see a continuation of the non-descriptive writing style. When I read a book, I like to be able to imagine what the ppl look like, the scenery, etc as if I’m right there or watching a movie. But this book…

The story starts off 8 years beforehand. Hero is married to some other crazy lady, the heroine is 17… And they both have the hots for each other already at that point. So it has a second chance feel to it, which is my least fav trope.

Anyway, fast forward 8 yrs. They run in to each other at the diner that the heroine owns and is working at that day. They have a spat, hero goes out to his Ferrari in the parking lot, she follows him, they argue for a bit and then boom. They’re totally getting naked, having sex on the hood of his car. Plus for fun, a little oral sex as a couple walking their dog walks by. The whole scene left me with too many questions… where was this car parked? on the side of the diner or like right in front, in plain view of the diner’s front windows so all of her coworkers and customers can see this happening? Was it dark or daylight out? It wasn’t a hot sexy scene to me, as it felt so incomplete in details. It was the author trying too hard, in my opinion.

After this eye roll worthy scene, I jumped onto GR to read other reviews. One girl commented she DNF’d after the hero says the heroines who-ha smells like bean sprouts (?) and several other complain that it was a constant back and forth of the druggy hero complaining he’s not good enough for the heroine. Sounds dreadful.

I’m off to read the next one. It’s got to be better!!!! 🤞🏻

I am loving this series, and I'm so happy the audios keep coming out! As I told you in Lethal, I actually started this series with the 4th book and fell in love with all the characters. Ignite still reins as my favorite in this series and I can not fucking wait for the audio to come out.

David/Poet was such a tortured soul and he had every fucking right to be. What he went through was horrific and it breaks my heart.

The story starts when he was 21 he was infatuated with Charlie (17) who works at her momma's diner. Even though her mom tells her to stay the hell away from him because he is not a good guy, she just can't help but love the man from a distance.
“A lifetime ago, I was a boy who liked a girl and thought he could have it all.”

He got one taste of her in the parking lot of the diner and before he could take it further with her sometime awful happened and he couldn't handle it so he left......9 years later he is back. Through all his misery he has never stopped thinking about Charlie.

And Charlie never got over the bad boy she fell in love with at 17. So when he comes back she is ready to take whatever his damaged heart can give her. Even if it is just sex.
"Fuck… we’re going to be each other’s downfall.”

Charlie is an amazing heroine. She knows he has demons and she is willing to fight every single one of them. I love that even though you want to throttle David sometimes, she never holds anything against him because she truly understands him.
“You did nothing wrong except fall for a bad boy who turned into a bad man.”

Their love story is not smooth and easy. David isn't willing to let go of his demons and doesn't believe he can give Charlie anything but some epic fucking orgasms. He has to go through a lot to hopefully find a happily ever after with Charlie.
“What’s left to say? She’s brave and I’m fucked up. End of story.”

This book will suck you in from the start and keep you wondering who the traitor in the club is. Will David get the revenge he is craving and if he does, will it help him heal?

I can't wait for Edge and Dolly - that is going to be an epic ride I'm sure.

Atone combines the perfect amount of darkness, raw passion, betrayal, love, and loss to make it one of my top reads from 2019! Cassandra Robbins is not playing on the fence with this MC series. She's drawing us in with love that transcends time and tragedy, characters that both steal our hearts and break them in the next chapter, and damaged Heroes and the women that somehow find the strength to stand by them through the darkest of days. I fell in love with David in the first chapter, yearned for the happily ever after Charlie saw in his eyes each time she looked at him and struggled through the heartbreaking moments. These two had chemistry that could melt the words right off the pages! With each book, this series gets better and better. I have not been this excited about a new series in a long time. I cannot wait to see the adventure the next book takes us on!

A very emotional angst romance! Poet is living in darkness but Charlie shows him the light by one kiss that he will never forget. Years go by and not seeing each other in years and the chemistry is still sizzling like fire! A romance filled with heartache and love and forgiving yourself. 5/5 stars

David and Charlie's story is one that has so many emotions involved. David is your typical biker that is hot, sexy, dominant but is also so damaged. Tragic events turned David into a shell of a man and he's not sure he can come back from the darkness.
Charlie has always been in love with David but when something tragic happened David went down a dark path and Charlie wasn't part of it. He left for awhile and when he came back Charlie was beside herself hoping for a life with him but instead he used her. He warned her he had nothing to offer her but her heart didn't care, she loved him that much. Their relationship was a messed up one but Charlie didn't give up, she was determined that David could be the man she wanted and needed. But could he? Could he put the past behind him and offer her everything or was he to damaged to see what he had in front of him?
I am in love with this series and cannot wait for the next book. I love a damaged man and this book has that and so much more.

That was so freaking good!! 🖤

Cassandra is the author that brought me into MC Romance! Atone did not disappoint! I love that we got a glance into other characters lives but this one focuses on David the Poet & Charlie! Their story is full of hot heat, lots of action & suspense, and hard emotions! What David has to overcome is heartbreaking yet Charlie will not give up! This is a romance you do not want to miss!!

Ok, I have no idea where to start with this book, it was absolutely fantastic. I loved lethal but this tops it totally. Cassandra's books have gotten better and better, her writing is brilliant and she knows how to suck us in.

If you have read Cassandra's other 3 books you would have come across Blade (lethal) and Reed (entitled duet), both are part of David's story. Blade his cousin and Reed, a friend. They are very important to him.

Now David, what a man 😍😍😍 he is seriously hot but has such a tortured sole and he believes he is not worthy of love. It is heartbreaking to see his struggles.

Charlie is a beautiful woman who knows exactly what she wants and she will fight tooth and nail for it.

I dont want to give more of the story away to ruin the book.

There is so much passion in the book and the spice is completely off the charts, so be warned, you'll be blushing big time.

I loved how Cassandra developed more of the side characters to keep us wanting more. I'm dying for the next disciple book.

Cassandra was a new authur to me this year, recommended by a friend. I fell in love with her work straight away. With Atone, another wonderful book under her belt. She no doubt has become my new unicorn.

Atone is a fantastic book, I give it 5 stars, and an absolute must read.

A Must Read Intense and Emotional Journey! Charlize “Charlie” has had a crush on David “Poet” since he’s been going to her parent’s diner for years but he is off limits and one of the Disciples MC bikers. She was only seventeen back then and he had a lot of baggage...demons to deal with. Well, Nine years later he is back home and hoping to Atone for everything that has happened in his past. This is a heartbreakingly beautiful story of loss, love, vengeance, forgiveness and redemption. “He might be damaged, but he is not ruined.” David broke my heart only to put it back together again! An Epic MC with Heart. Don’t worry there is also plenty of steaminess and action too! You might need a cool down! Told in dual POV. This is the second book in the Disciple MC series but can be read as a stand-alone.

If dark, tortured and dangerous heroes are your jam, you need to read Atone! David will rock your world in the second installment of this gritty, sexy MC series, The Disciples. There is something so intriguing about a sexy, dirty talking bad boy. David is the epitome of those things and his hotness level was off the charts. He has been through hell and back, but that doesn't deter Charlie from dreaming about a life with this elusive Disciple.

Charlie is great. She's smart, independent and totally selfless. I admired her on so many levels and the fact that she accepted David, imperfections and all, made her all the more attractive. These two had chemistry that will light your heart on fire. The smiles and good times between Charlie and David are so sweet and swoony. Even so, pushing the never ending feelings of pain, loss and guilt aside was difficult for David. He broke my heart at times, but seeing Charlie fight for their love was beautiful.

Charlie is David's light. She is the ying to his yang, his Yoko Ono!

You will love the entire Disciples gang and getting to know them better in each book makes this series so enjoyable. They're a tight family, and family looks out for one another regardless of the life or death consequences. There is more to come from this fierce group and I can't wait 🖤💙🖤💙

There was something special about Lethal (The Disciples #1) but Cassandra Robbins has raised the bar of specialness even higher with Atone!!(The Disciples #2)! I am obsessed thinking about this beautifully written story! It’s one of my favorites of 2019!

David has been through so much that has plagued him with guilt and demons and so much self-doubt. He seeks revenge.

Charlie is determined and strong in her feelings for David. Together their chemistry is palpable. She is the light to his darkness. They’re drawn to each other early on but David’s struggles keep him distancing himself but not without internal turmoil.

Their explosive chemistry and love ignites the pages with gritty romance!
I’m absolutely enthralled with this story and after that ending I’m anxiously waiting for what’s to come next in Repent! (The Disciples #3)!

Huge MC Winner!!!

How do you come back from something that was so traumatic in your life that you leave everything behind for nine years? Now you're back wanting your cut back and you want to seek revenge on whomever it was that changed the club and your life forever. There has to be a rat inside the club.

Charlie was just a couple months from turning eighteen and she had the biggest crush on the bad boy biker with looks like Thor. There definitely was chemistry between these two but there was something that made David a guy that at this time was unattainable.

Once David returned Charlie just had to see him to tell him something that had been weighing on her for years. Would David be able to handle the raven haired beauty and all that she offered or would his revenge take over. The demons that followed David all these years would only calm when he was with Charlie. They had a passion that was beyond words.

I highly recommend this book and this series. This is definitely a book you don't want to miss!!

Where do I even begin?? THIS BOOK YA'LL! It was beyond anything I could have expected and everything deliciously dark, tormented and wonderful. The Disciples Series just keeps getting better & better! David & Charlie's story is full of angst, demons, second chances & an undeniable connection.

David is buried by guilt, addiction and grief; with a one track mind on revenge... Is he ready to let some light come back into his life? When self hatred/destruction has been his best friend; Can he rise above those demons?....And Charlie well she's determined to finally go for what she wants and take this chance with the man she always knew was her forever. Every emotion these two go thru, all the self doubt, all the heartbreak....your right there with them. ALL THE FEELS!🖤

There were so many details to this book, so many layers of emotion, brotherhood and some truly wonderful secondary characters. Honestly, real talk...I'm obsessed with all things Disciples MC and I cannot wait to see where we go next! 🖤

Charlie and David's story was a fantastic MC read that definitely took my breath away in parts. Charlie has been in love with David forever and he was always the unattainable bad boy. David is a member of the Disciple MC Club and has had so much tragedy in his life. With his demons following him and a need for vengeance driving him this story takes the reader on a great adventure packed with steam, some great relationship dynamics with supporting characters and some great twists. My heart went on a wild ride in this read and can't wait to see which character comes next.

How do you fight your way back when someone stole the best part of you?

David and Charlie fell in love as young adults, but one kiss ruined both their lives and made them angry with the world.

When David returns after 10 years, Charlie knows she still loves him, but David is only here for one thing: revenge.

At the end can David atone, or will he let his dark mistress swallow his only light?

A story of redemption, owning your own $#1+, and finding forgiveness if you're strong enough.

Serious damaged heroes are my favorite and Cassandra Robbins writes them to the point where your heart is aching for them. I adored Blade (Jason) even if he was a grump, but Poet (David) was something else. The grief he carried was undeniably heavy. To the point that if anything remotely good happened to him he would wonder why he deserved it. After losing his babygirl his life took a turn for from bad to worse. The light he once thought he would be able to look forward to someday was just a distant memory. On a road leading nowhere his only option was to leave. Leave her, leave his club, and leave behind all the bad memories.

“You are my light. But if I stay with you, I’ll extinguish it.”

Now nearly a decade later he is back, back to get revenge on the ones that wronged him. He swore he would leave her alone but that was never an option. Through the years she was his one light. The place he could go in his head when things got to heavy. Except, Charlie is so much more than he remembered. She has so much good in her that he doesn't want to taint that, but he can't seem to let her go. Letting her go would mean losing himself forever but he has to, she deserves much better than this life. This life of blood, war, and loss. These past months with her have been more than he could have hoped for but saying goodbye was always the plan.

Atone broke my heart, seriously. Throughout this book I kept hoping for that moment. You know what moment I am talking about, that moment where Poet realizes he is worth more. More than this life has offered him. The triggers in this book are heavy so be sure to check those. Charlie was this wonderful force of light for David and their chemistry was undeniable. I think he might hold a little piece of my heart now.

Troy Duran y'all! Holy lord that voice. If I, can I always listen to a Troy Duran narration, but this book was next level. The growls, the pain he conveyed in his voice was intense. Next level intense, I was entirely immersed in his narration. I do believe this was my first Veronica Parker narration, but I really enjoyed her emotional moments. Sometimes narrations lose that but when a narrator can get the voice cracks in there it is just *chefs kiss*.

I don't see how anyone will be able to top Poet, but Edge is up next and after the things he has done to Dolly that boy better grovel, and I mean grovel good. Curious to see if he will be able to be redeemed.

Well, this was well written. I like this author. She does a good job for someone with so few books under her belt. While, I really enjoyed the first book in the series, I did not like this one nearly as much. Mostly because I didn't like David. I struggled with him. He felt very immature to me. This whole book including the drug aspect was just troubling and dysfunctional. That felt realistic but also seemed to add a level of train-wreck that didn't balance out with the level of positive emotions that should have been more prevalent in a romance. Everything about David and Charlie felt frantic and chaotic. Additionally, the references back to Reed and David's friendship was distracting for anyone that didn't read her first books and did not expect the second book in this series to be connected to books outside the series. Throwing information in like "I'm not a good man, I've had sex with my best friend and his wife" needs way more context for readers that are not familiar with her first two books.

Unfortunately, this book also made me dislike Eve when I loved her in the first book. She was barely in this book and yet the author totally changed how I look at her now. Ugh. That sucked so much. I wish the whole pool scene and conversations with Charlie had been edited out or handled much, much differently. Up until that time, Eve's manipulative nature was only really revealed through Blades understanding of her. If she is now just blatantly admitting her "trap him plan" to her friends it ruins her character for me. Now she isn't just desperately insecure and looking for security by any means; she's calculating and cold.

I have never, ever liked Dolly so the next book may be a hard sell for me.

ummmmmm this was kinda... meh? I loved the female mc, she was funny and strong but also so sweet. the guy though... ugh. he was only interesting when he was fucking her and talking dirty lMAO anything else was soooooooooo lame, like we get it you're ~*damaged*~ congrats, now can you be at least a little bit interesting?

the narrative was so messy! and not a jersey-shore kinda messy, more like how-did-this-get-through-an-editor kinda way lmaoooo Charlie was the shining star here, really pulled this whole book out from the depths.

the first one in the series was miles more entertaining, this one was a bit of a dud, but i'm super excited for the next one!!

spoilers below? not really plot wise but smut wise

my guy really said she tasted like bean sprouts and candy y'all 333 and she jerked him off with bUTTER!! B U T T E R?!?!!?! HELP

“I’m here to atone and seek my revenge. I should have taken care of this nine years ago. But I’m a different man now. I would have failed them back then.”

description

My intro to Cassandra’s work was Lethal, the first installment of this series. It was an easy 4 star for me, so addicting that I knew I would read every installment from this MC world that followed. I wasn’t familiar with David (aside from the mentions of him in Lethal) because obviously I have yet to read Reed’s story, yet I knew I needed to see what he was about. His backstory was both completely heartbreaking and absolutely intriguing, and I was certain he would cause mayhem within the club & his love life on his quest for vengeance.

So why 3 stars? Let me make this clear.....this installment isn’t bad, in fact it was just as binge-worthy as Blade & Eve’s story. It’s messy, chaotic, hard to read at times, and steamy af.....it wasn’t quite as action packed or suspenseful as book one but it had its moments nonetheless. Not to mention it will leave you holding your breath until the very end. My issues lied almost solely in Charlie which I will get into below. Let’s just say that although at times my criteria of what makes a heroine weak & stupid vs strong & determined teeter a fine line, it was crystal clear what side of that line she landed herself on.

Nine years ago was the last time Charlie saw David, the day he lost his child & some of his family/club. She’s always loved him, always knew he was “it” for her despite only having one kiss.....but nothing prepares her for what he has turned into. Gone is the carefree flirt, in his place is a tortured man out for blood. David is back to avenge his child & atone for his sins, not to get involved with the one woman he thought could have been the one for him. He’s an addict & his addiction is to her. But he has nothing to offer her & she deserves more. Can Charlie heal David, or will she be left in his path of destruction?
Safe Read? This does contain some triggering subjects including drug abuse/WD, violence, child death (past-tense), and some rough(er) sexual situations.
Ending: HFN for couple with a cliffy to set up next installment/couple.

My Thoughts:
Let’s just start with the “elephant” in the room shall we? What I consider the only true negative of this book was Charlie. I appreciate when my heroines take a little shit from their antihero, it’s necessary in most books I like. I’m okay when they give in a little too easily Bc let’s face it, humans are flawed & you can’t help who you love. However Charlie took those exceptions and ran with them. She has absolutely NO backbone and she is 100% co-dependent and an enabler. To honestly think that she was the only thing he needed to heal after carrying the massive weight of what happened to him for almost a decade while also believing she could replace his addiction on drugs, yeah I just can’t. I don’t think at ANY point in the book does she tell him no or stand up to him at all. Her excuse that he needs her is honorable yet a weak one when he so obviously needed far more than she had to give. I could have gotten over it a lot easier if the author used the ending chapters to develop her into a stronger more independent heroine, yet she was the same weak-minded girl that needed the man to exist.

I couldn’t admire her dedication and loyalty to him Bc it came at the cost of her character development. R-I-D-I-C-U-L-O-U-S.

As for David, he is one big colossal mess of an antihero.....seriously, if you fall for the truly broken almost beyond repair he will be a fav. It was hard seeing him struggle with so many demons and heartbreaking that one man carried around so much. I appreciated his character’s arch, that he recognizes what is necessary even at such a high cost. I actually liked him, but it has to be said that he was a bit of a pussy & quite selfish at times.

I loved seeing Blade & Eve (as well as getting more of James Dean), and seeing Reed and his absolute steadfast devotion to David as his best friend had me adding his series to the top of my TBR list. But was probably at the very top of my favs list and the reason for an actual squeal leaving my lips.....the cliffy that leads to the next installment. The very installment that features the two characters I’ve been DYING to see in the spotlight —— Edge & Dolly.

My Verdict:

Overall I’m sure my 3 star rating may seem like an answer in itself, but I do think that this story will touch others more than it did me. It’s not bad, it kept my attention despite an eye roll every now & again....and for that alone I say if you were thinking about reading it then go ahead and give it a shot. It might turn into a 5 star for you.

“I’ll take from you. I’ll take all of you if you let me. Don’t let me, Beautiful.” “You don’t have to take. I want to give it to you.”
