This was an entertaining read. The hero, Jake or Ace, is a cardsharp. He wins the heroine, Mary or Rose, was a whore. Rose is trying to leave her old life behind and start anew. They recognize each other. Rose agrees not to tell the other gamblers about his cheating if he marries her and stays faithful. There is one snag with this plan, Ace has another woman helping him cheat and has promised her things. I enjoyed this story because of the way things are resolved. This is a stand alone story. This is a fairly clean story. The sexual references are not explicit. I am interested in reading some of this author's other books.
Rose wants a new life. She was tired of being a riverboat whore and wanted to provide for her sister and brother. Jake only know how to gamble and using whores to help him cheat is his best bet. When Jake wins a mail order bride, he could never have guessed it would be Rose.
This was a well written entertaining short story that was faced paced and easy to read. All bets are off when a professional gambler who has lost faith in himself wins a mail order bride in game of chance. Rosie is looking for a new start and is not happy with anyone messing up her plans, this includes a sexy gambler she has a grudge against. Jake Ace is a gambler who doesn't like to lose and he will use what ever or whom ever is available to win. The play on the gambler's name is very comical and really quite witty. The Description of the characters is very detailed and builds a great picture in the readers mind. No one likes to lose and it is easier to place blame on someone else. As things get hairy and the sheriff gets pressure, things are looking bad for the gambler. Can he believe in himself again , save himself and keep the girl or will his past mistakes and the deadmans hand put an end to his winning streak. Great story.
Elizabeth Rose has hit another one out of the park with this story. It will hold you captivated the whole time. It keeps you on your toes through out the book all the way to the end, trying to guess what will happen next. Though you know its a love story you can't help but find yourself holding your breath waiting to see what will happen next or if things will go as planned in this book that shows that looks can be deceiving if you're not watching closely enough. I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a good story.
If you're a fan of the western romance genre I highly recommend this short story. Lady Luck decides it's time to show a cheating cardsharp she has a trick or two up her own sleeve. The gambler will find himself playing for the most important prize of his life.
This was a perfect light, fun western romance read. The characters were strong and I love that Rosie is a strong-willed woman who is the perfect match for the gambler she ends up with. A great novella that is a fun, quick read.
The book was short, but Elizabeth Rose captured a real Western feel, and the romance was sweet. It was a quick read, that made me feel good, perfect for this time of year.
