Rate this book
Veterinarian Pamela Wilson always used to run away from home to get attention from her status-conscious, preoccupied parents. Years ago she met a man who loved her unreservedly, but her parents didn't approve of his blue-collar job, so she ran away from him too. When the ambitious lawyer she's marrying answers a phone call while she's walking down the aisle, it's the last straw! She runs away again, this time to a cabin her parents don't know about, owned by the mechanic. Does he still own it and is he still single? Will she finally stop running away and make the right choice for her future?

I have always had stories in my head. Characters intrude into my thoughts and insist on showing me scenes from their lives. I discovered that when I ignore them, they start to yell louder; if I write their stories and they can live in readers' heads as well, they usually leave me alone. Only to be replaced by a new group of story-tellers. My head is usually a very crowded place, but I like it that way.

When a publisher closed, I got the rights back to some of my books. I put them up on Smashwords, with new IBC #s, and a newly revised version, with new covers:
March 2020--For the Love of His Life-MNRomance#1
April 2020--Only One Man Will Do--MN Romance#2
Her Last Resort--MN Romance#3
Secret Lover--Female Secret Agents #1
Undercover Lovers--Fem. Sec. Agents#2
May 2020--Prophecy of the Mayan Undead--contains
both vampire books as 1 long saga.
June 2020--No More Secrets--MN Romance #4

I had a hard time with Pamela because she is a very selfish and self-centered character. She is way past the age where running away is the answer, but she keeps avoiding being adult and choosing her life. Eric is a man who truly loves his woman and lives by the adage if you love something set it free and if it is yours it will come back to you. Ms. McGier is a talented writer because even though I did not like one of the main characters, I had to keep reading the story. She wrote Pamela in a way the reader finds themselves in a love hate relationship right along with Eric. Delane

The Reluctant Bride, by Fiona McGier, was a story about a weak woman who lived her life seeking the approval of her parents without regard for the feelings of others, until the day of her wedding.

Pamela is an educated young woman who owns her own business, but has always relied on the support, both financial and emotional, of her parents. Raised by her mother to be upwardly mobile, she spent her life not making waves and keeping her true wishes secret. On her wedding day, to a man chosen by her parents, she finally decides she has had enough when her groom is standing at the altar during the ceremony talking to his boss on his blue tooth. Finally at the end of her rope she flees to the home of the only man she has ever loved, Eric.

The remainder of the story is pretty cliché. Except when Pamela’s ex-fiancé shows his true measure and how far he will go to get his promotion. This part of the story is unexpected and a little disturbing. I believe contemporary stories, such as this, need to keep their facts realistic. While most the story is believable, there are a few spots that are not. Such as, there is a maximum amount of money you can take out of an ATM machine per day. Yet, Pamela is supposedly able to withdraw enough money to pay cash for a hotel room and rent a car, all with no identification, and still has money remaining.

I was happy that in the end, not only does Pamela become true to herself, but also that her father stood by her and Eric and only wished them happiness. I recommend this story to anyone looking for a cute quick read.

THE RIGHT CHOICE is a fast-paced and sometimes steamy read that takes place in present day and the past. This helps to give Pam’s history with her parents, as well as Eric, and even her soon-to-be husband. Pamela is a runaway bride, and I don’t blame her in the least, especially when we learn more about her soon-to-be ex. That her mother colludes with him is unconscionable.

Donald is definitely not likable. He’s a user to get what he wants out of life, but so is Pamela at times. Pamela’s true love is Eric, an auto mechanic, who she’s loved for twelve years. He seems to be the only one she can count on when things get tough. She puts him in an awkward position after not seeing him for a few years, but they still have feelings for each other. Her parents don’t like Eric. They’ve always felt he wasn’t a good prospect, especially since she had plans to go to college. She did end up as a vet who owns her own business—with mommy and daddy’s help.

When things take a bad turn, it’s up to Mel to find out who will really stick by her. Mel and Eric’s love shines in this story, and their obstacles make that love that much more satisfying. The ending gives closure and will leave the reader satisfied.

Ms. McGier writes in a variety of genres. Her contemporary romances are my faves. All have an edge to them both with characters and the amount of heat.

What a romantic read!

Pamela is about to marry the man her parents think she should marry and she does the only thing she can do in this situation, and that is run. Run as fast as she can and as far as she can into the one man's arms that were always her refuge when something was going wrong in her life. But she has run from that man far too many times.

The runaway bride has forever been a theme that romance readers fell in love with and Fiona McGier did it justice. The plot was developed properly so that everything that happened within the books pages was believable. I fell in love with the main characters, Pamela and Eric, and definitely cheered them on to find their happily ever after.

It is refreshing to read a book where the hero knows who he wants, and how he wants them instead of having the woman chasing after him with him denying his love for her. Thank you Fiona McGier for that. How refreshing. This book had heat and spice as well as its fun moments, and it was a book that I could not put down. The pace of the story was fast and kept me interested enough to keep turning the pages.

I also loved the fact that the two main characters roles were switched in that the hero was the one who didn't have money and came from humble beginnings instead of it being the female. The dialogue is cute and flows well so that you can follow everything being said and the conflict keeps your attention.

I recommend this book to anyone who wants to have a true love experience, filled with steamy sex, fun characters and a great plot all bundled up in a wonderful little package called THE RELUCTANT BRIDE.

Five stars for sweet love, heat and exciting plot.
