The Hots for Scots #6.5

Scot Under the Mistletoe

Rate this book
A year ago, Nessa Oliphant FINALLY landed the man of her dreams in bed...but when her father, the laird, betrothed her to the first Henry, her lover failed to fight for her.

Brohn, the housekeeper’s son, might be in command of the Oliphant troops, but knows his duty to the clan is to step aside and let Nessa make a strong betrothal contract. But after SEVEN failed betrothals—all to Henrys—Nessa is done with fiddling around.

It’s going to take the legend of the Ghostly Drummer of Oliphant Castle, some random sprigs of mistletoe, and plenty of Yuletide magic to fix this hilarious mess!

Note: Goodreads has this book listed out of order in the series. It is book 7 in The Hots for Scots series. Luckily nothing was seriously spoiled for book 6!

As I have stated before, this series gets better and better. Needs is a favorite and she gives women a good name. Surely her brothers have some hand in her turning out so brazen and willing to assert her wants and needs. Her former betrothals to myriad Henry’s have fallen through, luckily for her and her true love, but unluckily for them as it was their death that brought about the end of the proposals. Finally, she and Brohn are faced with the challenge of figuring out how to be together!

Fun little Christmas novella. I enjoyed the narration! I kept thinking of Merida from Brave :). It was a good fit!

If anyone deserved a happy ever after, it was Nessa Oliphant! She has waited after falling for Bron, the housekeepers son but he refused to make an honest woman of her in the name of duty. And so, her father started betrothing her to Henry after Henry… 7 Henry’s later she is ready to take matters into her own hands and demand the future she wants. Nessa is my favourite heroine in all the Oliphant stories, she is strong, independent and isn’t afraid to like what she likes… even if it’s a little dark. She will most definitely rule their roost! Another fun story filled with passion and love.

Finally, we get Nessa's story and just like her brothers, it is fun, funny and over the top sexy. She is in love with Lara's brother Brohn, and son of the Laird's housekeeper. The ending is soooo funny, and I really think I should have seen it coming.

Any time I start reading a story written by Caroline Lee, I know I'm going to be in for a fun time! This author is so naturally talented in the humour department, it really is a treat to read one of her books. Her characters are also always a lot of fun and the plots are often times tongue in cheek but it does make for the best of stories!!

Nessa has been betrothed 7 times, to men who all had the same name (Henry) and they all died before she could even meet them! Is it any wonder people say she's cursed?!! She's actually in love with the housekeeper's son Brohn and the time has finally come for her to put her foot down and tell her father that Brohn is the one she wants to marry, even though he thinks he's not good enough for her. It's one hilarious moment after another and even the priest is unlike any I've met!!

A fun short read not to be missed!!

Audiobook Review:
Overall – 5
Performance – 5
Story – 5

A nice bonus story!

Scot under the Mistletoe is the only one in the series that wasn’t performed by William Macleod and that makes sense since it is Nessa’s story – the only Oliphant sister. Hailey Munro did a great job performing this story and I enjoyed listening to her voice.

Nessa has been in love with Brohn for ages but her father keeps trying to marry her off to men named Henry who end up dying before the marriage can happen. In keeping with the other books in this series it is LOL funny at times and I must be oblivious because I didn’t see the gotcha coming. It was perfect!!

After hearing about Nessa and all of her Henrys in the previous books, I was happy to finally have her story. I love Nessa’s strength and sass. She was a fun character to read.

I have enjoyed this series. I think it’s best to read it in order. I can’t wait for the next book and finding out who the laird is!

Henry the eighth !

Something tells me ... If you want to have a bit of fun without all the prudish social issues , Caroline Lee has got you covered . Enjoy the romping about in a castle with not so secret passages and a not so dead ghost .

Scot Under the Mistletoe, Book 7 of The Hot for Scots series (according to the author, but others say it can be read as Book 6. You decide), was about Nessa Oliphant, the only legitimate child of Laird William Oliphant, and Brohn Oliphant, the housekeeper’s son and second-in-command of the Oliphant warriors.
Growing up with three sets of twin brothers and Brohn, who was their best friend, Nessa couldn't help but follow them around...and fall in love with Brohn. They even had a short affair...until her father started betrothing her to any man who had the first name of Henry. After seven betrothals, to seven Henrys...all who mysteriously died before she could even meet them, let alone marry one, Nessa was fed up. She wanted Brohn and no one else, even though it seemed her father was just as determined to marry her to anyone BUT the housekeeper's son.
However, because Brohn had not stood up and fought for her when the Laird had betrothed her to the first Henry, Nessa was crushed and didn't know what to do about it. Each time she received a new betrothal, Brohn refused to say anything about wanting her for himself, and that broke her a little more each time, even though she still loved him.
Brohn, having loved Nessa for years, believed that she was not worthy of Nessa's love. He believed she needed to make a strong marriage with someone else who could be an asset to the clan...and that wasn't someone like him. So, thinking he was fulfilling his duty to the clan, Brohn stepped aside each time her father made a new betrothal contract.
Another strong, well-written rom-com. This story had everything a reader of such books could possibly want. The humor was over the top and added such a fun tone to the book that it was difficult to put down. The characters were well-developed and all the emotions that filled the story were amazingly apt. This was definitely worthy of a five-star rating and to be added to the Keeper for the Shelves collection.

3.5 STARS

This was part of a bundle I purchased called TWELVE DAYS OF CHRISTMAS IN A HIGHLANDERS ARMS.

At times somewhat confusing with so many character's. This is about two couples who love each other but one of the pair, feels they are not worthy.

Since I was unfamiliar with the H/h until this story, I felt I came in the middle and missed so much of a back story on them and others. I did enjoy how this author incorporated the tails from the other stories in this bundle.

There is lovemaking outside of marriage, heat level 4 out of 5 and a lot of crude talk. This had some funny banter that kept the story lively.

No cheating, HEA, more lust than romance and tad of spice. (ljb)

Scot Under the Mistletoe, book seven of Caroline Lee’s Hot for Scots series, is a holiday novella, and the story of Nessa Oliphant’s quest to find true love. After seven failed betrothals, to seven Henry’s, Nessa has had enough. She has always been in love with Braun, the housekeeper’s son, but hence her father betrothed her to the first Henry, Braun didn’t fight for her, despite the fact that they had been lovers. But now that Laird Oliphant has openly announced his love for the housekeeper Moira, Nessa is determined to have her son Braun. Hijinx, fun and an appearance from the ghostly drummer make this a great read!

I have been provided with a review copy of Scot Under the Mistletoe by Caroline Lee for an impartial review. This title was previously a part of the Twelve Days of Christmas in a Highlander’s Arms anthology and has since been published on it’s own. This novella is a part of The Hots for Scots series and I just loved getting to enter this world. Oh my gosh I just couldn’t get enough of this story. I was just captivated with this story and it’s wonderful characters. I just lost myself in this story and I can’t wait to see what’s next from this author.

I read this story from an anthology that is no longer available to purchase (Twelve Days of Christmas in a Highlander’s Arms).
Nessa’s betrotheds, all seven of them, keep dying, one only two days after the contracts were signed and all before she has even met them. Whilst Nessa didn’t wish for them to die, she is not sad to be free of them, there is only one man for her but convincing him that he is worthy of the Laird’s daughter is another matter. The author cleverly entwined the other stories from the anthology, into after dinner tales.

Full of Holiday Cheer

Brohn and Nessa’s story felt like it was inevitable. It read like an old friend. It was a treat to read a book with two happy endings! This book does have its share of humor, but it isn’t as in your face as it is in some of the other books in the series. It also isn’t as spicy or steamy as some of the other books. With that being said, I did read it in less than half a day so I think that shows I enjoyed it.

This is fine, lighthearted and funny like the other books. But also not nearly as feminist as the other books. Why does she (multiple times) downplay her contributions and give others credit for what she did? Brawn calls her on it which is good, but why is *she's* doing that if she's such a fiery feminist? Also unclear why she didn't fight for herself and her future, why was she expecting him to do it? This makes no sense, her character is all over the place, not a real person.

A great read

This story of Nessa and Brohn was a cute one, but it also was about her dad and his mother who have been lovers for years. Brohn never thought he was good enough for her and in the end his name happens to be Henry, whom her father has been making betrothal agreements with only to have them die before they even met. I highly recommend this book. 👍👍👍👍❤❤❤❤

Cute holiday story. I'm glad Nessa was able to convince all the stubborn people in her life to see reason. We finally get the details behind the ghost drummer, and I love the twist at the end that makes it obvious how much the Laird enjoys teasing his children. All that's left is seeing who will become the heir, so on the the finale (book 8).

FYI ... this is book 7, not book 6.

The saga continues with Nessa and the curse of the Henrys, her lover not standing up for her every time she was betrothed because he thought he wasn’t good enough, the legend of mistletoe sorta explained and so much more in this hilarious tale

Too short

This story had all the markings for a grand adventure but it felt rushed. So many good tidbits but they were left behind. I would have liked more background on the lovers.

cute funny and sweet

I have not read the previous books so I felt a loss of history to this story. The relationships were sweet. The story had humor and the end was endearing. I think it’s worth reading the who.e series first.

So boring.

There was an extremely long, very stupid, joke about the twelve days of Christmas that took up about a quarter of this book. And the rest was drivel. Sad, Lee is better than this and I had high hopes for this series.

Holy day

A girl with six brothers best be able to hold her own or she would never survive. In this case she certainly stood her ground and there was a Henry in her future after all.
