She knew she’d have to find something old and something new. This wasn’t what she was expecting.

Rosemary Bell is going to the chapel and someone’s gonna get married. But when an unexpected visitor begins causing trouble in Mosswood, the something blue on Tammy’s big day could end up being the bride.

For better or worse, Fox Cottage has a new resident. And mostly, it’s for worse. With Declan struggling to rein in his wayward son, Rosie ends up playing referee as well as bridesmaid--and she doesn’t look good in stripes. Wanting to support her boyfriend and still keep peace in the neighborhood, Rosie is stuck between a diamond and a hard place.

When the teenage troublemakers commit a ceremony foul, will Rosie find herself one family richer or one group of friends poorer?

Freaky Friday meets My Best Friend’s Wedding in this short novel about the vows we make, the promises we break, and the things we do for family’s sake.

Loved it
Started out with a bang and Rosie & Declan have their hands full when Declan's son comes to Mosswood. To say that he is a handful is an understatement the things he does would make anyone sign papers! But does Declan give in and sign them or does he put his foot down? Will Gabe be a stresser for Rosie & Declan's relationship?? So much conflict and chaos...
Louisa West has given us a great series to read and I can't wait for the next one to come out.

Oh wow! There is trouble in Mosswood! All I can say is, I'm glad my kid isn't a teenager yet! It would be nice if he could stay that way forever, because I am NOT looking forward to the teen angst. I tell you what, if I had gotten up to half the shenanigans taking place in this book, my mamma would have tanned my hide. I loved reading about how Rosie, Declan, Tammy and Myles dealt with everything. I can't wait to see what comes next!

😮 Surprise son...say what?!?!

This book took off running from the very start! Rosie and Declan certainly have their hands full now. What's one to do with a surprise son that Declan never knew about?Especially a teenaged one filled with so much hurt and anger at the world, and everyone within. Prepare for some deep breathing, and so many hijinx, growing pains and love within these wonderful pages. Fall in love with the town of Mosswood all over again.

Glad I finished it!

This book was hard for me to read. I hate books with conflict, especially the ones where it seems like there isn't a good answer. I almost didn't finish it but I'm glad I did!

As always the characters pull you in and grab you. Learning more about Mosswood is always a pleasure!

Fantastic and Heart Pounding!

Prepare to get swept up into the whirlwind of Gabe’s arrival! My heart was pounding right alongside Rosie’s throughout this amazing book. Teenage rebellion perfectly written and thoughtfully orchestrated keeping you on the edge of your seat! I really appreciate that although this is paranormal series, Gabe’s antics are crazy while still being realistic. Very well done.

Good Story

This leaned more heavily towards a family drama than a paranormal book. But I enjoyed it. The blurb for the next book does sound very paranormal in nature.

Son of a witch is right! Declan's son is quite a handful, causing all sorts of stress for Rosie and making her question her relationship with Declan. I wanted to slap him myself but Rosie thinks her reactions through and is reminded of her own upbringing. Love wins as they say and so it does but not without some very hostile situations.

Very cool!

Continuing tale of this mom witch coping with her growing family in a small rather judgemental town. As she starts her dream if her own business, her new family member makes life difficult and everyone learns new ways to adjust to each other! Fun times!

Loved, loved, loved this book! This book in the series may be my favorite yet! Could be that I had a step-son and could definitely relate to all the feelings and issues that Rosie felt in this tale. Can't wait to listen to the this one in audio! And can't wait for the next book!!!

Mosswood Rocks

A wedding, a son, vandals, a kangaroo, and so much family drama! I enjoy Egbert single visit to Mosswood. Rosie, Declan, Tammy, Kyle's, Ben and Maggie are the kind of family I love hanging out with.

Fantastic series!

This series is absolutely fantastic to read! If you enjoy the PWF genre, pick up this series! You won't be sorry. The story is fast moving with the main events wrapped up in the book, but arcs that continue from book to book in the series. I can't wait for the next one!

Wonderful edition

A bit light on the magic side I think but still an interesting addition to the continuing storyline. Also on the short side but love how the characters are growing and getting to know the latest edition to the family. The next story sounds even more intriguing!

This was a rollercoaster ride of emotions and it was great! The only thing I didn't like was at the end when Rosie had to apologize for everything even though she had nothing to apologize for and Declan didn't really take much responsibility for his behavior either.

Louisa wrote a situation that looked about as bleak as it could possibly be for Rosie and Declan and totally led Rosie to know how to turn things around. Such love and insight into what was needed. I love this series and all the magic, characters, and issues.

What happened to this series?

Spoiler alert

I really really liked the first three books of this series: sexy romance, midlife starting over, and magic in well written books. However, I absolutely HATED this book. Little to no romance, no advancement of the prophecy plot, and way too much over the top ridiculous family drama. Declan needed to grow a spine, stop being an overindulgent arse, and set some limitations with his son instead of Rosie having to parent him and everyone else. But hey he decides to leave and after all the BS Rosie is the one running down the driveway apologizing. WT*?

As for the so called teenage rebellion, no that’s criminal behaviour but hey all is over the top forgiven because the poor boys were just misunderstood and having a hard time. No need for consequences after demolishing half the town and ruining people’s businesses.

In short, while this author seems to have a lot of talent, the series really seems to have gotten lost from the genre and original direction of the series. The odd attempt at a romantic happy ever after ending after all the sh*& that went down was just weird. As was Terry showing up.

book 5 apologist

So I made it to 5, and while I can appreciate a certain level of cultural creative license, I have a truly difficult time stomaching the martyr syndrome of the main character. I still started to read six… but I think it is going to be a dnf. A$$holes exist, but an entire world of them… nah.

Wowser can this author do emotions!!!! Louisa West hits it every time!

When Declan's son arrives in Mosswood well it is safe to say things will never be the same again. Here is a teenage boy who has never known his father, and likewise a father who never even new he had a son, (Gemma played some awful games with people)
So now Rosie has to juggle her daughter Maggie, the new cafe she and Tammy have opened, her shifts at the store and a teen who is determined to get his father to sign emancipation papers so he can leave,
Declan is well out of his depth, and Louise West captures this brilliantly with a man who is set to give in and reward for bad behaviour, but as with all relationships, Rosie is there to help him and guide him, if he will allow it, can this family of 3 become a family of 4, and through it all can Rosie be the bridesmaid Tammy needs and will the wedding go ahead?

I will read anything Louise West writes, at this stage I would even read a menu she writes. As I said she hits the emotions right every time, the bitterness of the teenage boy the fear of the “new” father even the way Rosie and Maggie feel with the interloper. I really cannot emphasise how good this series is. Best to start from book 1 if you have not already done so, that way the characters and story will make the most sense, if you are already reading this series, I know you need no encouragement from me to dive in, you know as well as I do how good this series is!!!

Will Tammy and Miles finally make it down the aisle to wedded bliss?

Well, Gabe is not only a huge surprise but, an even bigger thorn in everyone's side. Tammy and Milres are getting ready to say I do but, not everything goes off without a hitch. Matthew and Gabe seemed to be the kind of friends who shouldn't be, leaving everyone in town as part of their carnage. Will everything work out in the end or will everything just end?
I loved this continuation of the series. All the usual characters are here with the addition of Gabriel (Gabe), Declan's son (SURPRISE!) and a lot of problems giving way to uncertainty. Hopefully, everyone can settle down and settle in for good but, somehow I seriously doubt it. I highly recommend this book and series. It is a great reminder of how life just happens while we are busy making plans but, that doesn't mean that it isn't just as great as it was meant to be just a different version. Loved the entire series, please hurry with the next book.

Son of a Witch is book number 5 in the Midlife in Mosswood series. This one finds our lead character Rosie stunned when a teenaged boy shows up claiming to be her boyfriend’s son. They take him in but he had a lot of underlying emotional issues and takes them out by falling in with the wrong crowd and causing trouble all over town. Cars crashed through buildings, stores full of chickens, a burnt down church, these boys are on the war path.

Can Rosie and Declan get Gabe under control or will the wedding of her best friends be ruined?

I love this series. It’s full of magic and family problems like any real family would have. (Well not the magic but you know what I mean). I truly feel for Rosie as a single mom trying to move on with her life, working two jobs, and trying to raise her family. It’s very real life. Just with extra magical perks.

I give this one ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️. Definitely check this series out if you like magical romcoms.

Sweet

I think what I like most about this installment of the series is the teenage drama. Especially from a 14 year old boy who grew up without his dad, and a boy who doesn't know if he is or ever was really wanted. This tackles that drama with anger, confusion, attempts at understanding that are fraught with frustration... everything that parents of unruly teens do deal with regularly. No matter how much love and patience there is, other emotions have a way of clouding things so we don't always deal the best in chaotic situations. I enjoy Mosswood and it's quirky members, more because people are nosy, rude, and sometimes mean, than because it's a small community that can come together. It's real. Their are other kinds of magic besides the paranormal kind and I love that Louisa explores those and acknowledges them in her stories. Can't wait for the next.

I have to say that so far, this was my least favorite book in the series. Light on magic and heavy on angst. At the end of the last book, Declan finds out he has a 14 year old son. Gabe shows up with a big chip on his shoulder and quickly becomes involved with the town bad boy. Things quickly escalate from magically painting vulgar drawings on the side of an abandoned building to underage drinking parties, driving a car through the grocery store, and burning down the church.
After that, the ending is a bit anticlimactic. Everyone chips in to clean up the debris from the church, so they can still get Myles and Tammy married. Tammy’s ex shows up dressed as a hippie to give the marriage his blessing, which was totally unnecessary to the story. And whatever happened to the the kangaroo?
I don’t think I can recommend this book.

Ms. West knows how to pull at the heartstrings. The emotional connections between Rosie and Declan are tested when the son Declan didn't know he had arrives unannounced on their doorstep. Gabe is trouble with a capital T, and it isn't long before he has everyone offside. Not only does he test the fledgling family unit Rosie, Declan and Maggie have formed, his antics threaten to disrupt the residents in the one place Rosie truly calls home.

There were times when I swore at some of those characters, but I loved Declan's struggle to establish himself as a father, and the moment Rosie really gets Gabe still has me welling up. Beautiful story. I'm looking forward to the next book. :)

Rosie’s life keeps getting more complicated and her magical ability isn’t proving helpful. She’s torn between wanting to keep the peace or her sanity. Maggie, Rosie’s daughter is slightly in awe of her new sibling. He’s not one for conforming or fitting in. Anyone who has dealt with truculent teens will have sympathy for Rosie and Declan. The book still has the trademark wit and good humour with the characters we have come to know and care about.

This book made me irrationally angry. Declan is an absolute shit head for letting his kid do all that shit without holding him accountable. But as if that wasn’t enough bro had the fucking audacity to point the finger at Rosie!!! Rosie should have been the one to leave that relationship not Declan, and she most definitely shouldn’t have been the one apologising and begging for Dicklan and his son back

The witch's son

Declan finds out that he has a son. His son has a chip on his shoulder and Rosie is having trouble accepting him. He keeps getting in trouble along with Myles son. I love the ending of the book. Louisa West does an awesome job of pulling in readers. I was surprised by the ending. I can't wait to see
where Louisa goes next in this series.

Ready or not, here comes the bride!

Aww, I loved this one! From finding family we didn't know existed, to keeping family we choose happy and going. Lots of anger, loneliness, and heartbreak gets turned around in this fantastic book! I won't give any spoilers away, so just grab this book in the series, and see for yourself. I can't wait to start the next book in this series!!!

Even better than previous 4 books looking forward to next exciting story as we see how Gabe finally fits in with a family. Will he stop causing mayhem? I don’t want to say anything that might spoil the book for anyone but it is exciting watching the characters grow and if you like cozy witch mysteries then this series is one I recommend.

it takes a village to raise a child- or to try to wrangle several children and current and past spouses and offspring with a town with certain preconceptions and limited vision and limited welcome to outsiders

things get tricky, more than once, with mixed results, and lots of great moments to read

I like this series, and this wasn’t necessarily a bad book, but the whole thing was about two teenaged boys running rampant over the town. The parents couldn’t figure out how to stop it and the conclusion was a little too unrealistic. I wonder if the next book talks about out actual repercussions.
