📚 MISCHIEF NIGHT: 📚 Is the first full length romance book in the series 'The Obsidian Brotherhood', by new to me author Delaney Foster. Spoken in 'Dual Perspectives.'
Not gonna lie, for me it was all about the hot dude on the cover, nothing else mattered, release day I purchased it so fast I gave myself whiplash, I hadn’t even read the blurb. 🙈 Having to wait until I’d finished Arcs was a killer.
But finally…
Once I’d started I couldn’t stop, this was like a puzzle with a few puzzle pieces missing, we had to connect the pieces for it all to make sense. It was a little bit messy, with open unfinished scenes, which in some ways kind of made me love it more, it left me guessing, such a crazy unique storyline. Another thing I really loved is for ones who do have limits the author will forewarn you before jumping into that chapter. That was really well done.
She was 6 years old and he was ten when she first met Caspian Donahue, he was friends with her older brother, he was different compared to the other boys only because of who his father was and his last name. Their fathers despised each other and somehow that feud had trickled down to the siblings.
Behind the background he's always protected Tatum unbeknownst to her until he couldn't and was sent away for 4 years.
He knew he'd always come back and claim her even though there were other forces trying to keep them apart. Caspian was a force to be reckoned with when it came to her. And nothing and no one was going to stop him. even if it mean't he had to kill someone.
When it came to the secret brotherhood there were five men who ruled the ranks, making them bound by blood, under them there were at least one hundred men from all around the globe holding high profile jobs. They were men with checkered backgrounds. The only way to survive them was to play them at their games...But even better.
And that's where Caspian check mated the one who was going to kill him...His own father.
I’m so glad the hotness on the cover matched the steam levels within the story. Definitely keen to read the next book which I think is going to be that much darker..

I don't think I can take any more of these reading disasters. I need to retire. Jessa Kane doesn't release nearly enough to cure me of disappointments.
I know I can't expect a lot of coherence from some of these books, but some things even I can't suspend disbelief.
A lot of things are told in this, not shown and don't happen on page. Then you wake up with information that makes absolutely no sense and try to make sense of what you read.
Very poor execution.

Caspian. A fantastic alpha very bad dark antihero, possessive, protective, arrogant, provocative and sexy.
I still haven’t decided if I love-to-hate or hate-to-love him. 🤦🏻♀️
Tatum. She was very protected and slightly in her own world, but later she started realising some things around her and tried to give as good as she got.
Caspian and Tatum’s relationship was explosive, so full of sparks, very steamy, intense and challenging. There are very few words that could describe their seismic chemistry.
The plot was very intriguing and there were moments I had to remind myself to breathe.
Their story kept my interest, it was very well written and developed, fast paced and had dual pov.
I am definitely looking forward to reading the stories of the other characters from this secret dark society!!!

Both under their fathers’ thumbs, Caspian Donahue and Tatum Huntington are merely pawns in the power game. Despite the bad blood between the Donahues and Huntingtons for, seemingly, forever, Caspian and Tatum have fallen in love over the years. However, there are so many secrets that Caspian is forced to bide his time until he can safely claim Tatum as his own.
I thought I knew, more or less, how the story was going to play out, but there were definitely more secrets to unravel than I expected. I'm anxious to learn more about the Obsidian Brotherhood with Linc's story.

**** EDITED: after further reflection I’m downgrading this to a 3-star 🤡 - the H apparently had eyes on the h through the entire separation… so that means he knew when she started dating and likely that she was having sex with OM… and he did NOTHING to stop it from happening. I need my hero to cock-block the hell out of the h. 🙃 This is unforgivable, in my eyes 🤷🏼♀️*****

I originally had this shelved as “not for me” but decided to give it a try anyway. And I ended up liking it more than I expected, despite content that wasn’t ideal for me.
What I liked:
- vulnerable h
- jealous/possessive/protective hero
- hero is celibate during separation, and it actually made sense in this scenario
- the secret society trope didn’t feel over done
- the H stands up to his evil controlling father
- I just really liked the hero overall. He was aggressive, fierce, and loyal. He was able to shine as an actual hero.
- I liked that this wasn’t instalove. We get real relationship development.
What I didn’t like:
- the separation seemed excessive
- the H is forced to leave the h, after taking her v-card, for her protection. And for some reason that is never explained, he doesn’t tell her what’s going on or why he’s leaving or that he plans to come back for her… which leads to the h having relations with OM during the separation. 🫤 so… this felt like an intentional thing to pander people who prefer the h go sleeping around… and I really hated it. It felt unnecessary. The H wasn’t told that he couldn’t talk to the h, just that he had to leave for 5 years. I would have preferred there be an actual reason provided for the H to completely ghost her. As far as I could tell, he could have explained it to her any time. 🤷🏼♀️
- the author really tried to straddle the line between the titillation of a caveman, takes-what-he-wants hero and a woke beta boi. And while I think it worked some of the time, other times it fell flat. Pick a lane. Either he’s an enlightened feminist or a ruthless controlling prick. I think it’s confusing to try to make him both. He’s all… “I’m gonna do whatever I want to you, whenever I want to do it…. But with total respect for your body autonomy and with your enthusiastic consent.” 👀🙄 or “You need me to protect you from all the evils in the world because you’re just a naive little lamb… but also I’m good to leave you all alone and vulnerable for 5 years because you’re a strong badass woman who can take care of herself.” 👀🤔🙄

I'll be honest the only memorable thing I'm taking away from this book is the Clone a Cock.

My stomach dropped. A familiar heat began to simmer inside me as I looked down at the gift, at the intricate detail of it, the thickness and length, the full head and all the veins, then back at the label. Clone a Cock.
Is this love, when he sends you a replica of his dick from across the ocean?? Ok cuz me and who?
I'm just dead because he did all that and she still had sex with om 💀
But the main reason I dnfed this is cuz of the time jumps. Nothing is fleshed out because the plot literally goes in fast-forward. The H and h barely interact but for some reason they're obsessed with each other.
Also the next time I read something like this in the prologue imma just run
Tonight, it ends—generations of hate, a centuries-old feud. Tonight, the forbidden becomes the desired. There is no escaping a fate that was sealed in blood, etched in scars.
Cuz think about it, what does that even mean??? Cryptic and ominous for no reason. I got through half the book and I still don't understand what exactly this secret society does. And pls a CENTURIES old feud? At that point somebody just needs to bake an apple pie and call for a truce

A super charged thriller that rides on adrenline rush with oodles of sexual chemistry thrown in. It set my pulse racing with tension and lust, and you will end up getting high on the heightened passions too.
Delaney sure knows how to darken the love. Set against the backdrop of Crestview Regatta, there's a night dedicated to Mischief and frivolry on the lake surrounded by a forest. The forest hides predators of all sort quadripeds and bipeds.
"New York Mischief Night. Here we partied beneath a tomb with Celtic music, drugs and alcohol—and sex. "
The young kids, Caspian Donahue and Tatum Harrington find solace & friendship in this dismal situation along with a best friend in Lyric. And as kids do, curious Tatum needs to know everything that hides in the dark of the night. The rituals, the bonfires, the boats, the dreams...
Caspian appoints himself as her saviour, though it's an uphill task cause Tatum never listens!!
"Tatum Huntington always managed to find trouble—or maybe it found her. Either way, she was always right in the fucking middle of it.
She didn’t belong in this world. People like me—like my father—would devour Tatum Huntington. I quickly learned the only way to protect her from the monsters was to become one of them. "
I was instantly mesmerized by Caspian. His level of intense loyalty, his dogged zeal in being omnipotent and pursue his love etched multi facets in his personality. We always knew his motives, his course of action and his reasons, which was so fresh.generally readers are left frustrated by alphas behaving like Assholes, but my sympathies stood firmly in Caspian corner from chapter one.

His life changes course because of Tatum. It's his life for hers and he sacrifices himself willingly. If that's not true love, then I don't know what is!!
The story spans a decade or so, chronicling their childhood love, to exile to their second chance at togetherness.
Outside forces are determined to keep them apart....

I found myself screaming many a times, trying to caution the characters. It was so easy to fall in love with Lyric and Tatum and Caspian and Chandler, even Lincoln.
It is sort of bi-trope, High School with second chance and cult-ish darkness thrown in, so there's something for everybody.

I was instantly mesmerized by Caspian. His level of intense loyalty, his dogged zeal in being omnipotent and pursue his love etched multi facets in his personality. We always knew his motives, his course of action and his reasons, which was so fresh.generally readers are left frustrated by alphas behaving like Assholes, but my sympathies stood firmly in Caspian corner from chapter one.

This read was complex - the story had so many twists and turns I didn't see coming. Mystery was weaved throughout it. Umm, Caspian is obsessive and possessive in his ways.. it was so hot!

Before I get into what’s totally fucked up about this book, meet the MMC…
Lincoln was unpredictable and maybe even a little crazy. He was like a tornado hellbent on destruction. But Caspian was like the ocean. On the surface, he was beautiful and calm. Underneath it all, he possessed the power to steal the life from your lungs without warning.
It’s time you accepted it, sweetheart. You didn’t choose the prince. Hell, you didn’t even choose the villain. You picked the motherfucking dragon none of them can slay.” His chest heaved, and there was fire in his eyes. “That’s not true.”
He huffed a laugh. “Forcing you is only fun when I know you want it. Otherwise, it’s just me being a dick.”
So, the MMC is fucking 😈 🔥.
The FMC?
🙈🙉🙊She’s the ostrich. She’d rather stick her head in the sand than see the heard of Buffalo about to trample her.
The Sex?
First sex scene is her 16 and him 20. If that kinda age gap bothers you, this isn’t your book. Some slightly kinky stuff, but this never really gets as dark as forecasted in the bedroom… typical alpha of this is mine to screw as hard and fast as I want.
🎖This book had a first for me. I’ve never read a MMC using a sex toy. 🎟Clone a cock… another cool moment. What wasn’t cool is four years of celibacy shit on by the FMC maybe/maybe not screwing someone else🤬. Her dialogue all but says she did, but her inner thoughts are wishy washy as to whether it’s fact or just something she let him believe.
Darkness?
The darkness element comes in with the cult practice of human hunting. Some short descriptive about murder within the cult… three kills by the MMC. Mention of sex trafficking. For me, this was more like looking into the distance at the dark verses actually being in a dark room.
What’s The What
There’s this Shakespearean kind of romance here between two childhood associates linked by their fathers. MMC is always there protecting the FMC in childhood. At 20 (m) and 16 (f) they give in to sexual desire, but he has to leave for four years to keep them both safe.
Meantime… Side plot of an arranged marriage, fathers who are in some fucked up 1%rich dude cult while also enemies, billionaire inheritances, and a best friend murdered.
The first half of this book is written mystery-center. Why did he leave? What happened to her BFF, Lyric? What’s he got planned? Will he return and claim her? Etc etc. Meanwhile, she finishes high school and starts trying to figure out what to do with herself as she wonders why he left, if he will ever return, and if anyone could ever compare to him.
💤There’s a dead, lull of melodrama surrounded by mundane from the time he leaves until the engagement announcement years later. From 50 to 80%, the reader is patiently waiting for all these secrets to come forward and questions to get answered.
🛑Massive BLACK HOLE
🛑Too much happens off page.
🛑Too much is tell you, not show you, after the fact.
🛑What is told doesn’t make a hill-a-fuck sense.
🛑Zero coherence and connectivity between buildup and fruition.
🛑Time jumps to avoid in-scene resolve.

🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄@ 86% all the secrets take a back burner to some kinda fucking cult ritual climax of danger. So many problems here. The plot spirals out of control. It’s too fast and lackluster to be called a climax. It’s illogical. It’s not believable. It answers nothing. In fact, it just makes more questions like why now. Like… She’s 21… so if her betrothal to some oil dude was the plan, that would’ve happened when she turned 18 and the MMC was powerless and an ocean away. Like… the dotting dad just is okay with this hunt shit. Like why the MMCs dad didn’t just take him out immediately. Like the MMCs dad just throwing his hands up in surrender lol. Like people of this caliber getting their own hands so dirtied whilst so afraid of public opinion in other areas. Like the entire dynamic between all these daddies hating each other but being in the same cult and doing cult stuff together… and all that cult shit involves bringing the entire family along but said family is kept in the dark about all the ritual shit? 🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄
It was like the author never had anything under the magic hat trick when the storyline called “abracadabra.” 🎩Insert a lot of smoke bombs, loud music, and overkill theatrics to distract the reader from the dud, nonsense that there NEVER was a 🐰under the hat.
Bam, fast forward six months. Burning questions aren’t answered, but that’s okay because the FMC has two dildos and a 👿🍡 to fuck her question-less.
I didn’t expect the Lyric answer. But, one paragraph to explain a question that burned through the pages of this book was PITIFUL. The how and why? … another magic trick. Poof -look at the rabbit out of nowhere. Maybe, that works in a visual deception, but it doesn’t translate to the pages of a book where your mind follows WORDS, not visual perception.
^ Once the Lyric plot point came to a head, it suddenly felt like this entire book was an advertisement for Lyric’s story. Like the author didn’t even want to write about the FMC and MMC here, but she used them as cardboard ushers for the next book. I hate that.
Btw… what happened to the cult shit of picking a bride on 25th birthday? That never happened.
What I’m left with? …
Imagine being blindfolded and fed the most scrumptious cookies ever. The blindfold is removed, and you’re looking at a nameless package of empty cookies with no ingredients, label info, or anything to tell you what it is you ate. Yeah, that frustration and disappointment is the book experience here. 🤷♀️
Yes, the author is talented. Yes, the story sucked me in. Yes, the dark is just to my taste of balance. BUT, there’s no feeling of completion, understating, or fulfillment.
While this author had some writing gems in her prose, I don’t know if I’ll read Lyric’s story. I’m too pissed at the fabulous buildup leading to nowhere and nothing. Some big ass suspense only to find out 🚪there is a door, but you still have no idea what’s behind it.
⭐️ Now, wtf do I do with this book? In the beginning, I had this pegged for a 5-star read. Slowly, the pacing and plot arc completions ate away at that rating until nothing remained but the ash of the last remaining star.

If you enjoy a darker romance with a little bit of suspense and a hero who skirts the line of being a villain, then this is a must read for you. I’m excited to see how the rest of the series plays out.

Mischief Night is the first book in the Obsidian Brotherhood and while each book can standalone and HAS its own HEA, it is best to read the series in order because there is a bigger storyline that plays out through the series.
Now on to how I felt about it…
Since I’ve seen this one around quite a bit, I wanted to check it out myself. For the most part, I thought this was a deliciously dark romance with a hero who skirts the line of being good and bad (well, okay he’s mostly bad). I enjoyed his dark, carnal urges and the way he always took control. For me, a hero who is like this is always someone I love to read about! Why? Because it’s fiction and its fun to read things that are DIFFERENT. He’s a little bit manipulating, a whole lot of controlling, and that my friends is what makes him swoony! I needed a dark hero in my life, and I definitely got it with this book.
ANYWAY, this is also a book with a bit of suspense. Normally I don’t care for romantic suspense books but it worked well here. The series is based around a brotherhood that essentially rules the world. You’ve seen this before in other books I’m sure (the rich get what they want and control the courts, police, etc.) but what you don’t get in those books that you get here is some really nasty people who will do ANYTHING (even kill their own sons who are the future heirs to the “throne”) to keep their power. This book is all about the power struggle between Caspian, his dad, and Tatum and her family.
Caspian and Tatum have known each other since childhood. He’s 4 years older than her so they had nothing in common, but he’s always felt a fierce need to protect her. Fast forward to the future and this need and his urges have taken control and he will stop at nothing to keep her for himself. But at what costs?
Readers will be led down a turbulent and dark tunnel as these two face off between each other and their families. Who will make it to the top? You’ll have to read to see.
All in all, I enjoyed this one. I even picked up the second book because I need to see what happens next. There’s a bit of a twist at the end that MADE me grab the second one and I think many readers will feel the same. Do I recommend this one? Yes!

Caspian broke Tatum when he left her when she needed him the most. Everything was destroyed and he left her to deal with the pain alone. That is until after years he returns. But he is different. He was always unhinged but this time there are no boundaries. He will have her. In every way. Even if she doesn't want him to because she was his. Only his.
Overall Opinion :
Damn, this was my first book by this author and holy hell , what a ride it was!! I love my heroes JP, possessive and downright psycho and Caspian ticked that all for me and so much more. The man was crazy and I was instantly in love 😇
This one was a dark romance standalone and might be triggering for a few people. For me those triggers were an amazing thing since that is what made me love this book so much 🤣 I just want the next stories so bad. This world is addictive and I can't wait to hear more about these characters! The author has done an amazing job of hooking me in for the ride and I am here for it!
Definitely recommending this one to all the dark romance loving people out there ❤❤

AHH this was a sexy and twisted book that will leave your panties drenched and your face flushed all the while your emotions are flying everywhere. At points in this book, you may even question your sanity. (I didn’t because I’ve read way worse but still.)
Seriously, what man makes a mold of his dick (multiple ones at that), turns them into dildos then sends them to you so he “remains the only man inside of you while he’s gone” ? I’ll answer that, Caspian goddamm Donahue. What man announces he’s marrying you to get you out of marrying another man who he knows will degrade, abuse and use you? Caspian goddamn Donahue. What man fucks you in a confessional at a church with no mercy? Once again, Caspian goddamn Donahue. There are many, many reasons why I love Caspian and these are just a few of the reasons why.
I want to say so much about this book but my brain isn’t working right now. What I do know is that I love Caspian so, so much. I’m a lover of all things twisted and dark which led to this being right up my alley.
The plot was somewhat bland and predictable but the characters are mainly what made this a 5 star read. This is 100% my favourite read of 2022 so far. Caspian Donahue <3
Seriously, what man makes a mold of his dick (multiple ones at that), turns them into dildos then sends them to you so he “remains the only man inside of you while he’s gone” ? I’ll answer that, Caspian goddamm Donahue. What man announces he’s marrying you to get you out of marrying another man who he knows will degrade, abuse and use you? Caspian goddamn Donahue. What man fucks you in a confessional at a church with no mercy? Once again, Caspian goddamn Donahue. There are many, many reasons why I love Caspian and these are just a few of the reasons why.

Umm Mischief Night just came out of nowhere for me! Everyone who knows me knows that I like my stories dark and fiery with a JP antihero that has no limits. Ummm hello Caspian Donahue, I've been waiting for you!!! This story was FIRE! Caspian and Tatum were exciting AF and had everything I loved in my couples!
While this is my first Delaney Foster story, this will definitely NOT be my last. I loved the dark and depraved Secret Society element and how strong and assertive Tatum was. She stood her ground looking for answers like the perfect match to Caspian. Likewise, I loveddd how dark and dirty Caspian was and how nothing stood in his way when it came to protecting Tatum. Overall this was an incredible start to a series and I look forward to more! 4.5 stars! ~Ratula

nah nah nah this was so good! i was screaming at the smut scenes, LITERALLY SCREAMING. i don’t know what it is lately but i been finding the best books, and i aint mad.

this follows Caspian and Tatum, they are kinda like on opposite sides but both from really rich and powerful families. they are part of some secret society cult thing, and Caspian is working against them while ms girl is just living her best life obliviously. i absolutely adore a heroine who does ballet, or dance and this GAVE that. loved it! Caspian was so insanely hot, y’all have no idea how much i highlighted this book lmaooo. at first too i was really getting Devils Night vibes and i loveeeed it! it didn’t feel like the author was writing it too similarly to that though, it was something different and i loved it. literally so hot and i’m thanking god we got that last sex scene GAH DAMN

Some smut is bad but it’s rememberable. This one was plain bad.
I just list everything I didn’t like about this novel:
- Time gaps. They can be executed well sometimes, otherwise it’s hard to connect with characters.
- Everything’s told instead of being shown.
- “She says no, but she’s wet, so I’m not gonna stop, she’s obviously enjoying it”. I feel like some authors need Anatomy 101.
- The hero’s constantly comes and goes like a stray cat.
- The plot is all over the place, I stayed only for the suspense. I’ll probably read the second part, because Lincoln looks like an emo boy, and I have a soft spot for emo boys.

Oh my gosh, I don't even know where to start because this book had me HOOKED!
Caspian and Tatum sure made 2022 a great way to start the new year!
Both Caspian and Tatum come from privileged families, with lots of money and from a secret society. Their ongoing fathers of this society cannot stand each other, the only reason they act like they like each other is because of the brotherhood but they stab each other in the back every chance they can (why not right, it makes it more interesting!)
Caspian has known that Tatum will be his one way or another ever since a young age and he will protect her every way he can until his dying breath and he will keep his promise no matter what. He will shield her and try and keep her out of everything that is going on to not scare her but in the long run he pushes her away, but for her own good. This man will stop at nothing when it comes to Tatum and that a makes him so much hotter!
I would divulge too much if I start talking about the book, which I would love nothing more than to do so, but I really think everyone needs to pick it up and read it because I can guarantee you that you will enjoy this first book in this series as much as I have. The main characters, along with the supporting characters will capture your heart and you will be unable to put your device down for a breather once you start reading.
I was hooked from the minute I started until the minute I ended and now I need more. I can't wait to read the story up next because damn there are so many unanswered questions when it comes down to all the secrets, lies and everything else that entwines all these characters together!

After reading some of the reviews, I was hesitant to start this one but OMG! I am so glad I went with my gut.
Caspian Donahue is EVERYTHING book boyfriends are made of.
He has now gone down as my official book husband. I said what I said. Fight me. It will be hard for Delaney Foster to beat him.
Yes, it's about a secret society but it has more of a Romeo and Juliet vibe than anything. I would actually even call it an R&J retelling. (There's even a balcony scene)
Yes, it's dark. The author posts trigger warnings at the beginning of any chapters that may make readers uncomfortable. That's something I've never seen before. Kudos to Ms. Foster.
Despite what other reviews mentioned (and my whole aversion to wanting to read this one) there is NO CHEATING. The om is a blip in the storyline. Everything happens off page with him and (in my opinion) he's only there to set the stage for "the gift" which was like nothing I have ever read before. (And I read alot) And the H is 100 percent devoted to the h the entire book. (The penthouse scene- SWOON)
The s3x is off the charts. The plot is riveting. The writing submerses the reader into the story. The supporting characters are engaging. (I'm looking at you, Chandler) And the suspense kept me guessing the whole time.
To sum it all up:
If you've ever been curious about a secret society of powerful men who do sinister sh!t, read this book.
If you like your heroes SUPER possessive and filthy af, read this book.
If you need a storyline that makes you think and guess and bite your nails and think some more, read this book.
Just read this effing book.

Tatum isn't aware of the true reasons Caspian left and when he comes back to claim her, she rightfully so makes him work for it. But the secrets surrounding the world they live in and what Tatum doesn't know could destroy everything. Can Caspian save Tatum, himself and claim what was always his?

Lord have mercy...Caspian was the best anti-hero. Everything I love in my alpha males he displayed deliciously. HOT HOT HOT. Tatum was vulnerable and naive but also strong and a light in their otherwise dark world. I loved them together. And I loved the side characters that all need stories now.
This was steamy, kinky and angsty. The twists and turns were on point and I devoured this story. If you like dark romance with a couple that will steam up your kindle then definitely dive into this world!!

HOLY MOLEY. This one slipped right through my dark, greedy little fingers. Picked this book up on a recommendation, and I was absolutely FLOORED I missed it on release day. If I could pick one book this year I read sooner-this is the baby!
This was DARK, gritty, so hot, and filled with so much suspense I literally could not put it down for anything else. I dove in and couldn’t resurface until I found out what happened-and what an absolute WILD ride it has been. I’m so excited to get more from this series-as the supporting characters were crafted so perfectly to not only be relevant during this book but also intertwine in this amazing, deeply disturbing plot-which let’s face it, that’s what I look for. I love when authors push the envelope with emotions-I appreciated the trigger warnings, but I think it was unnecessary because this author was just unapologetically HER and seriously blew dark romance to a whole new level. Magnificent!

Omg!!!!!!!!!!!!! Mischief Night by Delaney Foster is AHHMZING!!!!!!!!!!! OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!! What a captivating and tantalizing book. Delaney Foster is my latest new to me author that I am now addicted to reading all her books. Amazing!!! Amazing!!!! Brilliant storyline. Incredible characters. Hot cover!!!!! Everything is PERFECTION!!!!!! Made my dark romance heart so happy.
