Hunting Party

Rate this book
An indecent proposal never looked so good.

Ryan Delaney knows one thing: he's not supposed to be here. This alpha shifter soiree is too fancy, too exclusive. He's not going to find a patron, he's not getting his career kickstarted, no one is going to mentor him into a six-figure salary. He's not that kind of person.

So when the sexiest bloke he's ever seen makes him an offer he really should refuse, what's he supposed to do? Play the blushing maiden? Hah. Yeah right.

No, Ryan's going to do what he always does. One night, one time—no strings, no regrets.

But Patrick isn't like any alpha he's ever met, and Ryan's never felt so much like prey.

This time, he's not getting away scot-free. He'll be lucky to get away at all.

Hunting Party is part one in a steamy miniseries featuring a possessive alpha shifter, a stubborn human, and the kind of love you only get once in a lifetime.

Thank you SO much to How long do we need to keep running up that hill (I'm kinda tired elf) for this unexpected July 2022 gift! <33

Short, hot, supernatural PWP. Satisfying enough on its own, but it's clearly meant to be the start of a series, and I do hope that happens!

A flaming start to a new series.

Anything Robin Moray writes is worth spending time (and money) on. As soon as I found out her new book was out my finger clicked ‘buy’. At first, I just wanted to look (it was 3 am, after all..😅) but after that first page sucked me in, I was a goner. I loved reading about alpha heroes, ones who’re possessive and hot. As the blurb suggested, Ryan and Patrick met at a party for humans and shifters. Ryan was there to accompany his sister and he inevitably caught the eye of Patrick, one of the top alphas in the room. How they came together was scorchingly delicious. This short novella was teeming with steamy goodness! Can’t wait for the next episode!

*I kindly recieved an ARC of this book from the author*

This was a quick, hot introduction to what I'm assuming will be a new series from this author. I love a good Alpha mc so I'm already a bit in love with Patrick. I found Ryan came off as a bit juvenile but I'm sure his character will progress as the series goes on. Overall a really enjoyable, sexy, intriguing short story!

For a short story, this packed a lot of punch - an interesting world that I want to know more about, the potential to get stories with some of the other characters, and such amazing chemistry and a hot moment between our two MCs.

Please give us more Patrick and Ryan! Yum! Their chemistry and immediate attraction was just fun and sexy and I definitely want more.

I received an arc in exchange for an honest review.

Robin writes intelligent, steamy words and this new series promises to be all of that and more.
Compelling and filled with intriguing characters and sassy banter, this story will pull you in and make the ereader impossible to put down. Robin loves to tease, so this first book is just enough to whet our appetite and make us hunger for the next instalment. I can only hope the next book isn't too far away so we can get more of these sexy shifters - this world is fascinating and I really want to get a better understanding of the whole dynamic.

Oh my!

This little gem was absolutely delicious!

MM shifter stories are my no. 1 guilty pleasure, and this one was hot as all get out.

However...
It was also just a tiny appetizer when I'm now ravenous and need the whole meal.
I mean, yes, I know it's the first part of a mini series, but I'm just not a very patient person.

But either way. It's an awesome intro to a new steamy serial. And although I like all of Moray's naughty writing, I love her paranormal/shifter stories the most. And I will definitely keep following Patrick and Ryan.

That being said, however, I'd probably combust from frustration if I tried to read it in many short installments. I will need to wait for the bundle so I can gorge myself the way I want to.

I am not sure why I was surprised that it was so short, but I certainly was! I was expecting a full novel & it was a shock when I came to the end so soon after starting and it said that it would be continuing. Robin's a great writer and I have adored most everything I have read by her but I honestly thought this was going to be sooo much longer. I don't mind serialized books but I like there to be quite a few in the series before I start reading because I inevitably feel like I need more immediately.

As far as the story goes, it's very Cinderella with a twist and I think I am going to enjoy it as it keeps going.

Hot!!!!

Ryan is only at a party to appease his sister. Ryan catches the eye of Patrick. He’s an alpha wolf shifter and can sense what Ryan wants. It’s SO hot when Ryan gets what he wants! A great start to a new series!

I loved it! A great start to a new series by one of my favorite authors.

Ryan is a loyal brother, having only agreed to go to the mixer to accompany his twin sister Lily. In no way was he looking for a hook-up. However, when Ryan noticed Patrick across the room, he was instantly attracted to the Alpha wolf-shifter. And when Patrick invited him to dinner, Ryan couldn't say no. The chemistry between Patrick and Ryan was off the charts. Dinner quickly became something much more...HOT, HOT, HOT! I can't wait to see where this story goes from here.

Bummer! This was so short. Felt like, um, you-know-what interruptus.
Very hot. Some (maybe a lot of) reliance on clichees. Billonaires/Shifters combined trope, in case you were in any doubt.
Worked for me, boy. Guess I just gotta read some more Moray.

Great prequel short story and introduction to all new characters. Already hooked! This book was an easy read, super steamy and has the quality writing you can always count on in Robin Morays books. Looking forward to finding out what happens next with Ryan and Patrick in the next installment.

Hunting Party is the first entry in a new series by Robin (R. J.) Moray. I’m not big on Omniverse or shifters, but I’m very big on Moray’s books so I thought I’d see if her take on the genre could change my mind. For those of us who can’t spout the canon of this fictional world, I really appreciated the graceful way the rules were incorporated into the storyline. Also - I’m not sure if this is a spoiler - just a change in locale and this could have been an upscale fantasy mixer on earth rather than sci-fi; meaning just a few camp references to otters and other species and no hint of my least favorite trope, mpreg.

The premise is a mixer for Alphas and humans, but so far not so good. It’s like a bad high school dance, with each group hanging with their own on separate sides of the room. Most have unsuccessfully attended one of these before, without success, and instead of love matches they have gradually become a source for networking. In fact, that’s one of two things that brought human Ryan, our hero, to one for the first time, and to this particular little gathering - he is escorting his twin sister so she can hopefully find a grant beneficiary, and because…free food. We know it’s the first in the series, so let me just sum it up quickly with the important plot points - piercing blue eyes, incredible cheekbones, incredible sex, and….Ms. Moray, you kill me. You always leave me wanting more. The characters - not just the MCs, but several side characters - are already really interesting and need to be explored, there’s a possibility of trouble or happiness in a few relationships, and while Ryan needs to scope out the free appetizers, the other MC scoping him out has, well, let’s just say he’s comfortable. Really, really comfortable. Really.

I’m giving this 4.5 stars (please note I was given an ARC, which was pretty brave considering I’m less than happy with sci-fi), and while I hope to see more of her A Collar for His Brat or His Boy Next Door series entries first, if I saw another of this series released I would probably order it. It’s good enough to overlook the…otters. High praise indeed.

What happens when you go to a stuffy party to help your sister and instead of being bored out of your mind you meet a guy who can make you scream in all the best ways? Ryan finds out in this first installment of their story, and it’s clearly going to be a heck of a ride for him and Patrick, the hot, tiny bit mysterious, more than a bit controlling alpha he meets at said party. I’m not sure if I like Patrick yet– although I definitely get his appeal-- all I know about him is that he’s super hot, has amazing chemistry with Ryan, and his approach to building a more lasting connection with Ryan is to offer to trade him sex for his sister’s career, which is the part I don’t quite know how to feel about, if I’m honest (although Ryan seems fine with it). I sort of wish Patrick had been willing to go out on more of a limb than “I will buy your body with my influence,” but maybe that’s less a feature of his own personality than the culture he inhabits? Time will tell, and the world building here is definitely interesting, as it seems shifters, especially alphas, are a privileged class in society and humans do what they can to attract shifter attention and patronage. Also, I might be on the fence about Patrick but I’m 100% all in on Ryan: I like his snark, his honesty, his confidence in who he is and what he does in the face of any kind of reaction, hostile or approving. Ryan is clearly awesome, and I’m definitely looking forward to his HEA (plus, of course, all the fun he’s going to have along the way).

It's been a while since a story has gotten me this fired up, but oh my god am I excited to see where Ryan and Patrick's goes next. This book starts off a brand new miniseries in a new Robin Moray universe, and I'm already in love with it. The shifter/human power dynamic was fascinating to me, Ryan and his sister Lily were easy to adore, and the mystery surrounding Patrick was too tantalizing to pass up. I can already tell Ryan has no idea what he's in store for with his possessive shifter alpha, and I'm dying to find out myself what lengths Patrick will go to to ensnare Ryan. Their steamy coupling pushed all my buttons, in that can't-keep-my-hands-off-of-you, dirty, rough, claiming way. I can't describe how delighted I was to see Ryan go from bored disinterest in the fancy party to an overwhelmed, disheveled mess once Patrick was done with him. Theirs was a classic example of lust at first sight, and though I usually like my couples to have an emotional connection first, I was very on board with Ryan and Patrick's introduction. Robin writes these cliffhanger endings so expertly that of course I'm already desperate to read the entire, probably not even written yet miniseries. Patrick may have made it seem like Ryan had a choice in walking away, but I have a hard time believing that with chemistry so explosive he'd leave anything up to chance.

Robin Moray comes with an amazing and steamy 🔥 new instalment, the beginning of a miniseries!
Moray makes a comeback to the world of shifters, and I couldn’t be more excited!! I won’t go into the content of this, since it’s fairly short (as it is expected with episodic fiction) and you’ll enjoy it much more simply diving into it!!
It’s hot, intriguing, leaves you wanting more, wanting to see what will happen with the MCs (as well as the secondary ones)—and I think that speaks well about Moray’s ability to craft believable, compelling characters within a short novella-length book. Something I like about this author is how willing they are to spend time with the characters and the world, giving you just enough to be grounded and want to know more.
If you’re familiar with Moray’s work under the RJ Moray pseudonym, I’ll tell you this is closer to the length of a “His boy next door” episode than to the “A collar for his brat” ones.
Overall, I will say this was a very pleasant surprise from Moray, and it comes highly recommended. Jump into the train!!

Robin Moray has a way of writing these short stories that leaves you wanting for more all the time. It happened with her space short story Making it with the Mercenary (when will we get more and something longer on that one?!) and it’s the same case with Hunting Party.

I read the snippet that was shared during December and immediately knew I needed more of this.
Patrick and Ryan are setting things on fire and I am in general a great sucker for shifter books of all kinds. But there is something special about shifter/human books.

It’s hard to delve too much into the book, as it is so short, as it is. But one thing is for certain, I adore Ryan. He is an absolute doll and I’m really looking forward to the next book.

The four stars are merely for the shortness of the book. It feels like a snippet still of a bigger story and hopefully the next book will be a bit longer.

A fantastic start to a new series! In the first episode of this mini series, Ryan accompanies his sister to a party designed for humans and non-alpha shifters to connect with elite alphas who can offer companionship or mentorship. Ryan's sister is a geneticist and is hoping to make some connections to get funding for research, and Ryan is just along for the ride to support his sister. Instead, he catches the eye of Patrick, a sought after alpha who has the money and the resources to common anyone he wants, and what he wants is a night with Ryan.

Ms. Moray sets the stage for a future relationship between Ryan and Patrick after one hot encounter that was supposed to be a one time only treat. As usual, the character building was stellar and the series is set up for an intriguing opposites attract romance where one simple man learns his worth when the successful and powerful alpha wants to claim him as his own.

First of this is only the beginning of a story and feels like just the first chapter of a book. A very long chapter but nevertheless a chapter only. That’s also the reason this only gets 4 stars.

We got an introduction to a few characters that I hope we will get to see more of in the next part. So far I really love the characters the author introduced.

The world seems interesting and I hope to learn much more about it in the future.

Then there is of course the mcs. I like both Patrick and Ryan a lot already and I love the moments the already shared. Gosh they are hot together.

However again this was only the beginning and while it was a very good one I hate that there is not more and that we now have to wait for the next to be released. I am pretty sure I will love this and hope it won’t take long for there to be more.

The end is a cliffhanger and I would have appreciated if it would have been stated at the end of the description.

I got this book as a ARC and quite liked it.

It was fun and I really appreciated that even for such a short story they didn't immediately jump in to the sexy times or even the main characters meeting eachother, but instead spent some time with Ryan and his sister, therefore establishing them as characters. Although me seeing that as a positive might have to do with it being my favorite part of the book.

That it isn't until a fair bit into the book that we see Patrick isn't exactly bad, but it does make it hard to feel anything about him since I know nothing about him except that he is a handsome rich alpha and not a complete d*ck about it. This is however something that I suspect will be remedied in the books that I am sure will follow.

If you like short (but not standalone) stories about paranormal romance in a comtemporary world then I would say give this book a go.

Hunting party is the beginning of something sweet and hot!

Ryan is really clueless what he got himself into...
He chaperones his sister to a party full of upperclass shifters where she can hunt for an investor... Their sibling dynamics is amusing and really fun to read!
But really, its amusing how he ends up being 'hunted' himself, cathing the attention of the shifters, and one particular shifter who is told to be an elusive and rare patron...
Really, Ryan starts out so cute and naive!!! And then the sparks fly and things heat up!!!

I also love the slight urban fantasy feel to it and Im really enjoying the dynamics and play of who is doing the hunting and who is being hunted.
Im really looking forward to how this will continue...!

This is my first book with shifters and alphas. I followed the story fairly well and filled in missing information as the story progressed. The story was skillfully written and had necessary exposition to set the series very well. As this is the first installment in a multiple-book series, this is a great start (a really intriguing “first episode” that makes having to wait for the upcoming installments even more difficult).

Moray has taken character descriptions (physical as well as motivation and back-story) to an exciting level. And, speaking of exciting, the closing chapter is a demonstration of Moray’s ability to create HOT and STEAMY sessions that almost burn off the page. Well done, Robin Moray. Well done!!!!

Soooo good! *fanning face and blushing*
If you love smut but find yourself wincing at either poor or lackluster writing, Ms. Moray should be one of your go-to's. There's something so immediate and particular about the way she writes steam that genuinely gives a reader a full-on body flush. The scene in this story was definitely top notch, and the characters feel unique and interesting without weird gimmicks (well, except for the alpha shifter thing) with much to learn about them ahead. Annndddd I'm assuming there will be an "ahead" with more installments to come... "Please, Patrick?" (Happily reviewed ARC)

This is short and hot AF. But, as always, Moray manages to make what, in lesser hands would be simply a sexfest, into so much more. I cannot wait to see what she does with these gorgeous men and how far down the emotional rabbit hole I'll be going. I'm already fascinated by the world and looking forward to learning more about it. Lily, Ryan's sister is so much fun, I want to know more about her as well. Maybe a spinoff for the sweet photographer Aaron as well?

Patrick and Ryan are just getting started, but I hope we are going to get so much more of them and their world.

This was a short and satisfying bit of deliciousness that was hot and a bit of a tease. I loved Ryan being there for his sister and not downplaying his attractiveness while not being cocky either. Maybe it's that alluring appeal that draws top-dog (wolf?) alpha Patrick to seek him out for what is an awesome encounter that I hope we get more of. Like a bite of chocolate to take the edge off, Hunting Party is a sweet afternoon delight to enjoy when you don't have time to fall into a longer read.

A dark Cinderella story.

The ball. Humans seeking eligible Alphas.
The prince. Cold and disinterested. Until Ryan.

An offer. The clock strikes ten.

A new serial from Robin Moray, author of His Boy Next Door.

I was hooked from the first page. Like Moray's other works, you're left in anticipation of the next installment.

Who is Patrick? Will Ryan return for more.

Now that Ryan's prince has come, will there be a happily ever after?

5/5 More, please.

A nice start! This is a lovely start to this series. I enjoyed all the characters I was introduced to in this book. Ryan and Lily's relationship is very cute as well. The energy between Ryan and Patrick was sizzling and I loved them together. I'm very much looking forward to seeing how their relationship develops. I'm always a fan of the A/B/O dynamics and I'm enjoying how humans are being integrated into this world. Curious to see how it will continue to flow!
