What did I think of "Planting Friendship: Peace, Salaam, Shalom?" I couldn't stop smiling. I get so excited when a great story meets great illustrations. This book showed how though we may be different from each other, we are also very similar, with similar wants, needs and emotions.

I related to this book strongly, as a Jewish woman with Muslim and Christian friends. I have been invited to their places of worship, and I always leave the Services with the same feeling....we are all part of each other. Humans. Even my son commented after several services, noting the similarity to Jewish prayers. They often had similar intent. I hope this book's message will click with young readers. I think it will.

It appears that Picturebooks, Middle Grade and Young Adult books are going to need to do their best to reverse the damage that so many kids have experienced. Kids have seen a lot of hatred so far.(actually authors too, wrongly) I do believe that if we share these books that are trying to repair the world, and show that people are people, and our differences make us interesting, then there's a chance to influence young readers, to normalize things like diversity, kindness & being different, unique, yet similar.

This is a feel good book with a powerful message. Lovely, happy illustrations (I call it Happy Art), and a must for schools, libraries, religious schools & little libraries. Well done.

PLANTING FRIENDSHIP: PEACE, SALAAM, SHALOM. If only things were so simple! But, why can’t they be? Before grown-ups were filled with assumptions and held back by boundaries, we were kids who defaulted to rejoicing in universal commonalities. If kids grow up with books like these that portray warmth, respect, and understanding across cultures and religions, they’ll see that peaceful coexistence is possible. This is a heartwarming book that hits ambitious goals and sends important and powerful messages of hope for a peaceful future.
