Jason Sterling had a simple life by all accounts. He had worked the same job his entire adult life, he had never married and he had no children. He was used to doing things on his own. His comfortable life was shaken to the core the day he learned of his fathers death. It was a mysterious meeting that set life altering events in motion and the allure of a new life was too great to walk away from. When an Electromagnetic Pulse brings the modern world to its knees, Jason's choice proves to be the right one.

“Shut up!” one of the men who’d pulled him from the house barked and kicked him in the stump that was once his leg. Ira released a wail of pain, both of his hands shot to his destroyed leg. “Leave him alone!” I yelled. The man turned toward me and walked over. He knelt in front of me and put his face uncomfortably close to mine. “You wanna join him? I can arrange it!” he growled in my face. His rancid breath was nearly enough to make me gag. “You wanna take these cuffs off and have a go at it?” I sneered. Without warning, he grabbed the shoulder strap of my body armor and threw me to the ground. I rolled to my back and looked up at him. I could see the rage boiling behind his eyes. “I guess you only mess with one legged men and handcuffed girls. What’s the matter? Can’t take someone in a fair fight?” He unsheathed the large bowie knife from its place on his belt and took a step closer. I drew my knees up like I was going to try and push myself away. In reality, I was setting myself up to deliver one hell of a kick to this dude’s nuts. He was suddenly distracted and stopped his approach, his whole demeanor changed in a flash. I twisted my head to try and see what he was looking at. It turned out to be who he was looking at. Ken Shaw strode out of the early evening shadows. “What the hell’s going on here, Mr. Bradshaw?” Ken asked as he stepped over Ira and then me. He seemed to ignore both of us and was intently staring at the man with the rotten teeth and bad breath. “I, I, I…..” Bradshaw stammered. Ken was standing directly in front of him now. “What was my explicit order regarding the Marshals?” “You wanted them alive?” Bradshaw responded questioningly. “And?” “Unharmed. You wanted them unharmed.” “Is that why you threw her to the ground?” Ken pointed back toward me. “Were my orders so unclear that you felt the need to throw a handcuffed woman to the ground and draw your pig sticker? What were you planning on doing, Mr. Bradshaw?”
Tara Sterling continues her journey of growing up and becoming more independent. She leads her new Marshall team out and finds a conspiracy brewing involving as she finds out her "grandfather", who is like a cockroach and continues to survive. Jack Sterling and Jack Kenshaw are died in his mind but his new persona Ken Shaw is even more psychic than before so the crap gets deep. Completely recommend these books this is the last book of The Ranch series but there is a 7th book which covers the time leading up to the EMP and the Ranches become functional. The Sterling clan is bad ass whether they are blood or adopted.
It's been a real pleasure reading this series. As I worked my way thru the 6 books, the writing improved and the story just got better and better. I really appreciated the end and that there was very little left untold. If you ever need a proof-reader, I'd be more than happy to oblige. I am an avid reader, and this series was so enjoyable that i read them from start to finish. Than you!
Junta Rising is Book 6 of 7 in The Legacy Series. These books are not standalone and should be read in order.
I really loved book 6. I love the stories of family and community, especially ones like this that show the next generation is still endeavoring for goodness.
I would highly recommend this book to anyone 13ish or older due to mature content. I will definitely be reading Book 7
The Ranch: Junta Rising (The Legacy Series Book 6)
Wow. What a great series. Read 1-5 and then saw #6 which I immediately grabbed. Read it in 2 days as I couldn't put it down. 6 continues the story. Thoroughly enjoyed. Now I need to see what else Sean Liscom has out there - keep em coming!!!
You have very aptly reached me with all of this series! But you PISSED me off when Juno died. Yes I cried when I read that just like I cried when the new puppy showed up. I still like your books and will hope to read more about these characters in others.
I have read a lot of books in this genre and I must confess, I cried, laughed and even a few times got angry with the characters but in the end it was one of my favorite series to read,I HIGHLY recommend this series yeah some of it crazy ,but watch the evening news and we’ll is it really
The Ranch, Book 6, was, like it's predecessors, an exciting and excellent story. Having finished the series now, and coming back to place reviews, all of the stories to this time have been quite a read. Except for a couple of books with typos, one of the best end of time series out there.
This is a very book to have Tara in. The story is way up there, with action and lots of strange people and plot twists. But who killed those people and burned that place and started the whole chase. This is a good place to end the story, but there is one more to go, so bring it on.
That was a fantastic apocolypyic ride! Start to finish. Great characters, fabulous storyline and a perfect ending. I will be watching out for other books and series coming from this author. Thank-You for the many late can't put this down nights!
From thieves any bandits pushing society's fall, rebirth of basic hard working people and and a nation that will make self serving politicians run for their lives.
This whole series has been an absolute blast to read. It has been fun following the main characters then getting to follow Tara as well. I highly recommend the entire series!
This book and book 5 are more of a western that adystpic apocalyptic genre. The heroine had the fighting ability of a squad of navy seals then intuition of yoda the wisffom of an old sage and the gun handling ability od wyatt earp and the luck of the irish
Another enjoyable story. Sean weaves a plot within a story about morality and then surprises all in the end. When you think about the past several years and realize he started this story line pre pandemic it makes you want to sit and think.
Number 6 book was very good as I read the twists and turns all the way through. The adventures of Tara as she traveled the US as a Marshal kept me reading nonstop.
Our girl, Sparrow did a lot of growing. She made some hard decisions. Her team respected her decision and knew when to question it. She surprised us all in the end.
