Gabi has spent her entire life with her head in the clouds. random thought interrupting at the worst moments. It's the reason why now, at the age of 28. she still hasn't experience that 'special feeling' - by herself or with a partner.
When she attends her best friend and boss' bridal shower, she gets some advice that almost works - until she falls in the shower, breaking her wrist and landing her in Doctor Vic's Emergency Room.
He's looking for a solution.
Vic is tired of his mom constantly setting him up on blind dates. His entire existence has been a balancing act of living his life and pleasing his mother. His parents may have chosen doctor for him, but he chose emergency medicine for the chaos and unpredictability he's always craved.
The same kind of chaos and unpredictability that Gabi brought with her. When in she confesses her current predicament while under anesthesia and then realizes her boss is a match maker, he takes it as a sign that they're meant to help each other.
Vic will help Gabi learn about her own body (he is a doctor, after all) and Gabi will help keep his mother off his back. Simple as that.
But what happens when he realizes the thing holding Gabi back is what he likes most about her? Will Gabi be able to separate how Vic makes her feel physically from what she's feeling emotionally? Walking Red Flag is a contemporary brother's best friend romance. It is book two in the Ocean View series, but can be read as a standalone.
It is a full-length romance with a Happily Ever After that features sexually explicit material and profanity. This book is intended for 18+
Morgan is a born and raised Jersey girl, living there with her two boys, toddler daughter, and mechanic husband. She’s addicted to iced espresso, barbecue chips, and Starburst jellybeans. She usually has headphones on, listening to some spicy audiobook or Taylor Swift. There is rarely an in between.
Writing has been her calling for as long as she can remember. There’s a framed ‘page one’ of a book she wrote at seven hanging in her childhood home to prove the point. Her entire life she’s crafted stories in her mind, begging to be released but it wasn’t until recently she finally gave them the reigns.
I’m so grateful you’ve agreed to take this journey with me.
🚩The writing style. This is the most cliche/dumbass reason to hate a book but it just annoyed me, so cringy.
🚩The H. I read the first 10 chapters and the amount of times that he mentioned that his a doctor 😭 also the “ I'm a Doctor. I know women's bodies better than them”😜
🚩Insta love. Literally the third chapter 💀
And then it happens. Whether or not I realize it, I fall in love with Gabrielle Mancini and her endless talking, her gorgeous mind, and hilarious personality.
AHHHH I LOVE LOVE LOVE. the representation of ADHD in women was so accurate and i absolutely loved the fact that in was finally in a book. also the indian representation!! ugh this was absolutely perfect and i loved it
DNF - I struggled to finish this book. I called it at 34%. If I had to hear the MMC say, “I’m a doctor” one more time, I was going to throw my kindle. I searched “doctor “ in this book and it’s used 90 times!!!! 90!! That’s 86 more times than necessary. He told the FMC he knew her body better than she does. Excuse me?!?! Maybe you know my body better medically but no one knows my body more than the person who lives in it.
FMC: 28 year old virgin, ADHD rep, matchmaker (the ex-files employee, book 1) in training MMC: ER Doctor (don’t worry if you forget, he will remind you), unwilling to settle down much to his mom’s chagrin, gives sexy times lessons to FMC, love at first sight
I really enjoyed Tis the Season for Revenge by the same author and I have now tried to read 3 more books by this author and none have worked for me. Was it a fluke? The Christmas spirit?
Spice: One solo shower session by FMC but like my reading experience, she DNF. Unable to give further spice level due to DNF, no heat within first 34%.
Alright, I’m calling it. This book was bad. Like, annoyingly bad. I think it attempted to bring up valid points of the toxicity of purity culture and societal expectations revolving around virginity, but any worthwhile points were overshadowed by the poor writing, Vic’s obsessive/stalkerish tendencies the minute Gabi appeared to be with someone else or someone said anything against her, and the insta-love that was beginning to show within three chapters of the book starting. I could not stop cringing when reading Vic’s POV, and cannot stress how much I hated that he called her kitten. Literally almost dnf’d the first time he said it. Now I realized I should have. I mostly skimmed the last 1/3 of this book to keep my sanity intact.
to try and be more coherent: this was bad, not only bad but uncomfortable to read, which is certainly not what anyone is looking for when reading a romance book. i actually started this months ago but kept putting it down cause i could not handle anything about it, finally today i forced myself to finish it just for the sake of meeting my reading goal for the year and god, i almost regret it.
the name of this book perfectly suits the MMC, to the point that all i wanted for Gabi was to get the hell away from him. to list a few things: he calls her kitten right off the bat (just that petname is bad on its own), he won't shut up about being a doctor and how that makes him "know her body better than she does" (i'm in distress), he gets real possessive and creepy the moment he believes she's hanging out with someone else, he made her friends let him take her home when she was drunk as hell (even if they didn't do anything, that's so weird) and so much more. Gabi, on the other hand, is the perfect portrayal of trying to make a character quirky and special but just making them come off as annoying and try-hardy.
about the book in general, the writing and scenes are so cringy and dumb?? it could've been written by a 12 year old on tumblr, maybe even better.
and, personally, i think adhd is not represented well!!
now i'm wandering if i should review 'Tis the Season for Revenge again, because that's in my favorites and i don't know how it's written by the same author.
There's a lot of cliches here but bro I don't come to a spicy romance for the originality.
The male lead was hot as hell and I'm going to say it right now: book boyfriend of the year. Intelligent? Check. Doting? Check. Emotionally available??? Triple fucking check. Knows where both the clit and g spot are and is willing to use toys? 👀👀 I want to weep, how many of my own boxes this man checks for me 😭😭😭 Gahdamn.
i was very excited for this one. However the constant rambling and repetition of things that had already been said by the main protagonists was very annoying. Also, the fact that gabi gave everyone a speech when they were at the bachelorette party club thing bc her friends wouldn’t let her leave with a STRANGER was acc dumb. very poor writing style and was too unrealistic in my opinion.
Meh, unfortunately my least favorite from Morgan Elizabeth so far. Very generous 3 stars.
-Vic was awful and cringy, and immediately so possessive but not in a cute way -If Gabi had taken on the role of interviewing/vetting men for the Ex Files, I don’t think Vic would have gotten over it. He saw it as actually dating, not Gabi’s fucking job🙄 -Repetitive dialogue and internal monologues -One of my biggest book pet peeves is getting medical stuff wrong. An ER physician, which Vic reminded everyone about 300 times that he is, does not perform surgery. They literally do not see patients outside the ER, unless they’re actually a trauma surgeon. -The big conflict was essentially the exact same as the last book. FMC and MMC enter some arrangement that has a time limit or expiration date, which ends in the FMC telling the MMC that he’s clear to be matched with matchmaking service. MMC is pissed and confused - “how can she not know she’s MINE?” -No one in Gabi’s life gave her enough credit for like, anything. She’s a grown ass woman, let her be. Sexual inexperience does not equate to actually being naive and not a proper full fledged adult.
I did think it was sweet the way Vic encouraged Gabi’s random thoughts and tangents and stood up to her family about it! She did not deserve the people closest to her constantly calling her annoying.
I cannot properly express how much I love this book. I can admit the writing is not the best and the dialogue can be awkward, however, Vic and Gabbi just make me giddy. Their story gives me butterflies and I absolutely love how they work together to make Gabbi comfortable with herself and their newfound relationship.
I didn’t like the writing Cringey pet names and characters Why does he have to mention that he’s a doctor all the time ??? Also he’s an ER doc not a gynaecologist Medical degree does not equal knowing how to make a woman come
"I need to hold you, Gabi. I need that right now more than I need to breathe." — Victor Brandt, Walking Red Flag by Morgan Elizabeth
A cute romcom that blossomed out of the most peculiar of circumstances. This book had me laughing and squealing at every interaction between these two. Gabi finds herself in Dr. Brandt's office when she slips in her bathroom while attempting a little bit of ✨ self-care ✨. That in itself already had me hooked and seeing the chemistry between these two, I had no doubts that they would be perfect for each other. I absolutely adored the way he cared for her and made her feel confident in herself again.
It is insta-love which isn't typically my favourite but mixed in with a fake-dating arrangement, I was instantly sold. My favourite thing about this book is definitely the characters and the emotional depth that each held. They weren't shallow and I love how Vic ensured that he solidified the idea in Gabi's head that she wasn't broken neither did she need any fixing in the first place. If you're looking for a quick, cute and spicy read then I would recommend this one for you!
Thank you to the author, Morgan Elizabeth, for providing me with this e-ARC in exchange for an honest review!
This book made me so angry fr. It wasn’t the absolute worst thing I’ve ever read in my life, but idk it did not hit?? Like the writing style was confusing and not very conducive. Like, they repeated EVERYTHING that each character said after they’d already said it like twice. Not in a way that circles back or could be something attributed to her “condition” (I hate that word) but just straight up bad writing. It just took up space? Also on my god the way each bit of dialogue had so much happening in it? Not in the actual things being said, but they had like bit of dialogue with interruptions of action in between. Sometimes very effective, weaving together the actual scene and the dialogue, but not here. It was just confusing? Bc like, who’s taking. There were very few indicators a to who is speaking, you just gotta hope you get it, and someone like me who doesn’t wanna think when I read at alllll will not like this. Also so many typos or just bad uses of words.
The main character’s ADHD felt like an excuse to make her a manic pixie dream girl type. Main guy had zero real personality except love for her — like yeah i love an obsessed s/o but come on.? Also, I’m not sure of the authors ethnicity, but something about an author named Morgan Elizabeth writing about an Indian boy doesn’t sit right w me. I’m all for representation obviously, when there is something to present other than controlling marriage obsessed mama and tan skin? I can’t expect someone not brown to write about brown culture, but then why introduce the character as brown at all if nothing about them is inherently brown? He might’ve had a personality then outside of my family chose everything for me and Ive loved this girl since I first saw her. Like?? Even the main girl felt a bit like a stereotype.idk, like, I’m not saying she should’ve written anything about him being Indian before she made it a stereotype, but him being Indian felt like it was going to be a relatable thing, something additional to the story. I think we need a brown love interest in these books fr fr but why not leave it ambiguous if nothing about them is brown except for the skin ughhhh I’m so annoyed?? Like I need intentional writing, and this felt very throwaway. Also, even her mc being Italian American felt like a cliche in the way she wrote it? With the dialogue being 1940s mobster type, explosive moms, passive dads type aesthetic. YAH ALSO WHY DOES THE INDISN GUY WITH THE INDIAN MOM HAVE A COMPLETELY WHITE NAME? Not like a Portuguese type name, but like, Victor Brandt? I think it was victor anyway, idk this book was forgettable.
ALSO! They keep commenting on how tiny she is. How small she is. She’s so small. She dresses like a toddler. She acts like a toddler. SHE IS A 28 YEAR OLD WOMAN. YOU ARE TRYING TO SLEEP WITH HER. DO YOU NOT SEE HOW GROSS THAT IS?
I’m high key getting angrier about this book as I continue ranting LOLLL I will simply release my notes if anyone is interested bc I don’t really have a review. It wasn’t terrible, but it wasn’t even mediocre?? Ok I stop now sorry this book fills me w rage.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
- The portrayal of Gabi's ADHD( personally I related to all of the symptoms.)
- The epilogue
Red Flags:
-Vic fell in love with her because she said something funny while she was unaware. (Normally, I enjoy fast-falling material, but this wasn't it. It seemed overly instantaneous to me.)
-The writing....umm the dialogue??
- The character's relationship was a disconnect (the relationship resolved around Gabi's ADHD, virginity, and oh, VIC BEING A DOCTOR.
- Vic trying to be an alpha male, but dude, you're boring and one-dimensional. Oh! And a doctor. The dude had nothing unique about him, it seemed.
-The fact that my name is Nicolette and he keeps calling it while they were having sex had me rolling my eyes. ick stop calling my name!
-The consist needs to remind us that he's a "doctor" like dude we get it! Plus, why do you think because you work in the ER, you can make her orgasm....? Even Gabi got annoyed with the " I'm a doctor" line at the end.
"You're an ER doctor, you can't do a triple bypass." I'm Dead!
So Vic attended med school to be able to make a woman orgasm...Wow! Why did the author even bother with Gabi when she couldn't even think of her own red flags for the guy? Walking Red Flags was about Cassie's list of red flags for Vic. I could've read the epilogue and carried on with my life.
1) Vic is not the “walking red flag” Cassie and Gabbi say he is. The biggest red flag I can think of is that he didn’t want to sleep with Gabbi when she was drunk because he “wanted her to remember it”, not that you can’t give consent when you’re drunk. He also partakes in some minor misogyny so he does have some red flags but he’s not an obvious one for the reasons they say he is. That whole plot line was really forced and I can’t believe it’s the title of this book.
2) There are hardly any dialogue tags, and with the way the author wrote in the character’s physical responses, it was annoyingly difficult to tell who was saying what.
3) Vic and Gabbi's connection felt very superficial to me. I didn't buy their love.
I hated how over-the-top protective every male in Gabbi’s life was, to the point of infantilization. Luke was the worst, and for that, as well as the lack of dialogue tags, I will definitely not be reading the first book in the series.
this has to be the second best italian girl with curly hair named gabi.. i have SO MUCH to complain about this book. i hate how they infantilize gabi and make her seem dumb and vic is the number one contender. but the absolute worst part of this book is the names. the author must know like 3 italian names and then makes a female or masculine version of it. there’s gia gino gio antonio antonia vinnie nicky nico it’s too much!!! i cant take it 2.5/5 let’s be honest but i rounded it up to a 3 for the sake of goodreads. also call me a social justice warrior but the whole “she’s mine” is so disgusting and repulsive. like she is not your property she’s her own self. i hate when books say that
I loved this book for the reason I love all of Morgan Elizabeth’s books. The spice, the emotions, the fun, the cuteness, and the story. Vic and Gabi are so cute together. I love how he embraces the thing that she feels is annoying and embarrassing. I wanted him to work for her and everyone’s forgiveness more at the end. And the way Gabi was around her family wasn’t my favorite. But overall I still loved this book!
I received an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review.
“She reads smutty books on her lunch every day and blushes to high heaven.”
Gabi has spent her life with her head in the clouds and constantly distracted by random thoughts. At 28 she’s never found the one and she doesn’t want to be a 28 year old virgin any longer.
At her best fried and boss’s bridal shower she gets some advice from the women at the shower and decided to put the advice to use. What she didn’t plan on was falling in the shower and breaking her wrist, landing her in Vic’s emergency room.
Vic is sick of him mother asking him when he’s going to settle down. His life revolves around his job and pleasing his family. He was pushed to be a doctor, but the emergency room is where he finds calm in the chaos.
Until the day he meets Gabi and while under anaesthesia reveals her current predicament. Vic helps Gabi learn all about her own body whilst using science and in return Gabi will help keep Vic’s family off his back. Simple transaction for a win win outcome. Feelings move from just a physical attraction to something deeper.
Gabi is easily one of my favourite Elizabeth characters, this book was just as hot at the first book. Vic and Gabi while polar opposites, complimented each other so well. I love how the characters and friend groups blend together from book one. If you’ve not picked up an Elizabeth series you’re missing out. Recommend for reader’s 18+
i knew i would absolutely adore gabi, AND I WAS RIGHT.
i had the tremendous pleasure to beta-read this book for morgan, and let me just say that it was my FAVORITE thing to do. it’s so fun to see the writing process before it morphs into the books we all know and love. so if anyone needs a beta-reader, hit me up.
gabi is an assistant to a matchmaker (cassie from the ex files), who is a bit innocent in the capacities involving sexual relationships. she’s tried everything to make herself 🏁 but gets too in her head about it or gets distracted (which is VERY important to gabi’s character). after a mishap in the shower (yup, we all know what she was doing) gabi ends up in the ER with a broken wrist, and SPILLS HER SECRETS to the very hot, very single doctor. 🥵
a month later, gabi heads out to the club for a joint bachelor/bachelorette party and who does she run into (does it count as running if they’re grinding all over each other on the dance floor??) - yup, hot doctor vic. vic feels an intense attraction/protectiveness to gabi and ends up taking her home and taking care of her. these two make a deal, an agreement of sorts - he helps her figure out her body, and she sets him up with the matchmaker to get his marriage-driven mama off his back. these two kindle a relationship of sorts, with the goal to make gabi more comfortable with herself, her body, and asking what she wants. they tackle her ADHD brain and how to help her not get distracted during the deed.
what morgan doesn’t do is portray gabi’s ADHD as something that is “wrong” with her - just different. obviously gabi has these instrusive and self-depricating thoughts about herself due to other people’s comments and perceptions, but morgan does a good job at seperating gabi’s perception of herself versus the actual perception of ADHD. morgan does an AMAZING job and getting into gabi’s head - how her ADHD impacts her, her thought process, her ability to finish tasks, etc. i love love love it. also when vic stands up for her and her unique brain to her family, ugh swoon.
i think ben is in this series and if so, I NEED IT AND I NEED IT NOW.
morgan’s books keep getting better and better. if you like smalltowned men that have dirty mouths, treat their women better than gold, and love consent (yay!!) then morgan’s books are for you.
Thank you to Morgan Elizabeth for giving me an eARC of Walking Red Flag for an honest review. Book comes out June 21 2022!!
After reading the Ex-Files (book #1 in the Ocean Views series, please go read it if you haven't!!) I was hoping and manifesting that Gabi would get her own book. I can't even begin to describe the sound that cam out of me when I found out that not only was Gabi getting her own book but I was also going to be able to read it early! This book was everything I expect in a Morgan Elizabeth book, heartfelt, funny, and steamy!
Walking Red Flag stars Gabi a secretary for a matchmaking service(enter another plea for you to read Cassie's book The Ex-files), she also happens to be a virgin who has never had an orgasm. She hasn't even been able to get her self there even thought she has tried EVERYTHING, you see Gabi has ADHA which makes turning off her brain difficult. In a wild attempt to reach the big "O" involving a shower head (ladies if you know you know), Gabi lands herself in the ER with a broken arm and even worse broken pride. Enter our leading man Vic, a emergency room doctor that loves the "adventure" the bustling emergency room gives him. Due to Gabi's lack of filter and adorable tendency to ramble, Vic ends up finding out about Gabi's little "situation". The pair ends up running into one another several weeks after Gabi's accident, during this time period Vic had not been able to forget about Gabi and he offers to help her with her lack of "O's." In exchange Vic wants Gabi to fake match him, in the hopes that Vic's overbearing mother stops setting him up on dates.
This book was incredibly sweet, Vic is understanding and patient when it comes to helping Gabi. My heart melted numerous time when its so apparent that Vic loves the way Gabi's brain works, like there's never a time you think he is just appeasing her wild thoughts. This book was an ode to girls who think that the way their brain functions is off putting and makes them not worthy of love and companionship. I have to take a moment her to mention that not only was the book sweet but the spiciness was top tier. Basically this book was hot as hell, its one of my favorite parts of reading any book by Morgan Elizabeth, she writes some of the best cinnamon roll leading men who are also filthy in the bedroom.
If you couldn't tell from my review I loved loved loved this book and I hope that you pick it up and love it too!!
