***4.5 STARS***

Ruthless. Cold. Possessive. Domineering. Dark. Sinister.

Jonathan King is the embodiment of the anti-hero and he has Aurora Harper in his crosshairs.

Aurora has buried herself in anonymity hoping to escape her past. She only surfaces in order to save her watch business. She was hoping to get in and out without the King seeing her, but she was not successful and he knows exactly who she is....one of his enemies. Jonathan sees Aurora and he knows he has to possess her and break her to his will.

Jonathan King’s name strikes fear into everyone. He is known throughout the UK to be the devil himself and he relishes the comparison. I loved Jonathan’s character. He was dark and sexy...everything you look for in a dark billionaire romance. Aurora had a strong will and did not submit easily, which I admired especially with all she has endured.

I am glad I gave this author another chance. The previous book I read by her was a little too dark, but this book had just the right amount of dark.

This is part one of two books and ends on a cliffhanger. There are triggers and it is dark.

This has a dead ex element - and it's the heroine's sister, I might add - which usually lands something on the "not interested" shelf for me, and yet here we are...

I stayed up until close to 1am last night finishing this...knowing that I had to get up at 5am. It took everything I had not to dive right into book two. I almost succeeded...

3 what the hell was this stars

is it a rant review? yes. is my rating generous ? yes. but did RK’s insane world got me miraculously out of my reading slump, once again ? also yes.

"Jonathan thrusts two fingers inside me in one go and slaps my arse cheek at the same time. Slap. Slap. Slap."

•at the beginning of the book, the heroine emphasized in some vague terms -such as her being dead inside- that she was asexual. she referred to her previous sexual experiences as numb. she was never turned on and never felt.. a thing during having sex with a partner or alone. would you be surprised to know that RK tackled the subject in a neglectful way? 'cause surprise, surprise Jonathan was so dexterous with his fingers which as expected hold the cure for her 'sex problem'. within 2 minutes of him fingering her, Aurora had her first orgasm. needless to say I was not particularly pleased or impressed by it, nor by the fact that it happened in the first chapters. he also had a penchant for punishing her by slapping her arse which I find a bit redundant in every book I read by the author, so far. we are truly in need of either fresh or no kinks at all!

"It’s as simple as it sounds. In exchange for transferring full ownership of the stocks, I want you to pay for them by becoming mine."

•we’ve already established in prequel that the female love interest is the half-sister of the deceased spouse of the male protagonist. her doppelgänger. she believed that Jonathan lured her in his petty, mechiavilous schemes to replace the ghost of his wife. his plan consisted on saving her company from bankruptcy and trapping her in his life for a total of 6 months. at the end of their "pseudo-relation" she will regain full control of her watch's brand and company.

•even if the storyline was sick from the start, you know what led me to star at the ceiling for 5 long minutes. the motif that pushed him to marry his late wife. Alicia. Aurora’s older sister.
"Since we were bored with the easy pussy we got, we made a bet to marry mentally unstable women. It wasn’t a necessity or even forced. It was by choice."

let me explain. he had some matcho, absurd rivalry with his archenemy Ethan so what those two GROWN-ASS MEN did ? was bet on marrying MENTALLY ILL/UNSTABLE WOMEN. this is so fucked up on so many levels that i couldn’t believe what i was reading.

"The first time she brought me to her home for Eid and her family welcomed me to their table, as if I’d always belonged there."

•i guess the only enjoyable part of the storytelling was the diversity that was added with Layla’s character, Aurora’s best-friend. I honestly liked the fact that the muslim, North African, maghrébine representation wasn’t tarnished. even if only commun knowledges were mentioned such as, couscous and Eid.
also i don’t understand why RK literally omitted Algeria when she mentioned North African. she was like "Marocco, Tunisia" AS IF ALGERIA ISN’T IN THE MIDDLE. LITERALLY BETWEEN THOSE TWO.

"His world is different from mine.
His world has duct tape and vacant eyes.
And blood. A lot of blood”

•honestly, I’m hooked in the intrigue and the mystery. i liked the fact that "the devil" was also an author who dropped coded messages in his books’ dedications. all the indices lead to Aurora’s father. I also have the strange feeling that Alicia wasn’t her half-sister but mother. maybe I’m wrong tho..

"It’s the first time in my life that I want to keep something instead of destroying it to pieces."

•this quote irritated me so much. i can’t believe that Johnathan is 45 year old but sounds like a little kid who wants a pat on the head with a "good boy". oh, i forgot something.. he referred about his D- in the 3rd person.🙂

Jonathan is a cold SOB but you can’t help but like him!

The following ratings are out of 5:
Romance: ❤️💙💜💛
Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📕📗📘📔📙
World building: 🌎🌏🌍🌎🌎
Character development: 👤👤👤👤👤

The setting: England

The Anti-Hero: Jonathan King – Aiden’s Father and Levi’s Uncle. Jonathan was married to Alicia and has had a rivalry with Elsa’s Father Ethan Steele since they were young. Alicia suffered from depression and possibly other mental issues and died when Aiden was young.

The heroine: Aurora Harper (a.k.a. Clarissa Griffin) – Alicia’s half sister. Alicia came from a wealthy family but Clarissa was raised by her father and had a very non-traditional upbringing since it was just the two of them.

The Love Story: Clarissa has been in hiding since not long after Alicia died. Something happened between Clarissa and her father Maksim and Jonathan tried to find her but hit a dead end. However, she shows up at Aiden’s wedding and is now known as Aurora. She is the spitting image of Alicia (Jonathan’s dead wife).

Jonathan is all about winning and control. He sees Aurora at his son Aiden’s wedding trying to make some kind of business deal with his rival Ethan Steele, so he is determined to undermine the deal so he comes out the winner. Jonathan puts Aurora in a situation where she either agrees to do what he says or he will put her out of business, which includes putting all of her employees out of their jobs.

Jonathan is definitely dark and Aurora finds herself drawn to his darkness. She likes the kinky things he does and she is attracted to him despite her misgivings because he was her older sister’s husband. This book is super steamy and Jonathon is extremely dominant and all alpha male! I liked the fact that Aurora could hold her own and always stands up against what he wants her to do. Even though much of the time she seems to be purposely doing things to ensure his punishments because she likes them.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

eh not my thing. it wasn’t particularly dark or interesting. felt no chemistry between the hero and heroine and the hero was soooooo controlling. i don’t mind alpha heroes but i prefer the protector type not the “do whatever i say even if it’s dumb” type idk.

the stuff with the heroine’s dad was interesting which is why i bumped this a star but i don’t think this author’s writing is for me.

So where do I start from....

Rant & Spoilers Alert! You have been warned

Things I liked?
Jonathan and Aurora together. I liked how Aurora got the stone cold Daddy to actually care and loose complete control. But that wasn’t enough. Why? because of Alicia. I didn’t get a closure regarding her and Jonathan’s relationship. Did he have feelings for her? I mean she was the mother of his child, and from the prologue I could tell he did care about her, even though the only reason he married her in the first place was because of the bet between him and Ethan (To marry a mentally unstable woman).

Sometimes while reading I would be like Jonathan didn’t really love Alicia because he hardly ever mentions her or thinks about her in that sense. But he still has kept her room and hasn’t thrown away her stuff as a reminder. For what? Idk. The reasoning was pretty vague and left me even more confused

“My feet come to a slow halt in front of Alicia’s room and my smile vanishes.
I place a hand on the door as I often do.
Alicia is a reminder of when I also lost control. I have to make sure that doesn’t happen with Aurora.
She already shares her looks; she won’t share her fate.”

description

Which leads us to Aurora being a carbon copy of Alicia
Now besides the fact that everyone in the book kept on bringing up the fact about the resemblance I didn’t really give it much thought but then Aurora herself mentions that Jonathan always fucks her from behind and never from the front.
Which got me thinking? Why? Like I was so confused with Jonathan and Alicia’s relationship! I just wanted it direct from Jonathan’s mouth or thoughts! Like I mentioned above CLOSURE! So I could fully enjoy Aurora and Jonathan’s relationship.

description

Then comes Aurora.... okay so now let’s back up to the beginning okay?
Aurora out of nowhere shows up to Aiden’s wedding to meet Ethan so that he can invest in her business. But ends up catching the attention of Jonathan and now suddenly he wants her to be his. And I’m here like I don’t understand why. He has an ulterior motive? Okay but WHY after 11 years of Alicia’s death! Why all of a sudden he wants her? Even though in Alicia’s will it was mentioned that she wants Jonathan to look after her sister but he didn’t even really try to look for Aurora!

”Aurora Harper.
Previously Clarissa Griffin.
That’s how I lost her — not that I’ve been actively searching for her. Alicia mentioned in her will that she wanted Clarissa taken care of. Then Clarissa disappeared off the face of the earth.
She couldn’t have been more than sixteen when the whole shitstorm with Maxim Griffin went down. She was a minor, yet she disappeared. I went as far as asking around in the UK Protected Persons Service with underhanded methods and they also said she was a missing person.
It’s like she vanished into thin air.
Granted, I didn’t put my all into searching for her, because I didn’t want a reminder of Alicia right after her death. I needed to move along, and Clarissa would’ve hindered that process.”

So now after 11 years he see’s her, gets pissed she went to Ethan for help. Buys her company and then propositions her to be his for 6 months and he will return the company back to her.

Again my question is why? WHY DOES HE WANT AURORA ALL OF A SUDDEN!? Because she defied him? And still went to Ethan for her? So now he wants to break her and make her bow down to him? But again WHY NOW! She was living in the same city as him but he never bothered with her but now all of a sudden he wants her.

Then we have Aurora, who agreed to be his for 6 months for the company and to find out more information about her sisters death as she blames Jonathan for it. But what does she do? Talk back to Jonathan and gets spanked.
A few times she went into Alicia’s room to look for clues but then would end up in Jonathan’s room and exchange a sexual favour in order for her to cuddle and sleep in his bed. And I’m here like GIRL GET YOUR PRIORITIES STRAIGHT!

She literally one minute says

“uncover the facts behind Alicia’s death.”
And the next minute is going to Jonathan for sex. Like wtf? Weren’t you suspicious of him regarding your sisters death? What about that? And OMG CAN YOU BELIEVE TOWARDS THE END OF THE BOOK SHE GETS TO KNOW FROM THE HOUSEKEEPER THAT ALICIA WAS MENTALLY UNSTABLE!

description

First I was shocked and then I laughed so hard! She didn’t even know THIS about her own sister! Im glad she chose to open a watch factory instead of being a detective

I THOUGHT YOU WERE AT THE KINGS HOUSE TO UNCOVER FACTS ABOUT YOUR SISTER AND YOU DID NOT EVEN KNOW THIS!!!!!
And she never even asked Jonathan about her SISTER! I’m sorry but WHAT! Instead of asking to cuddle with Jonathan, she could have exchanged sex for information regarding her sister! At least TRY TO ACTUALLY DO SOMETHING ABOUT HER SISTER!

description

Either she went to Alicia’s room and read these thriller books at the side table or she would wait for some tape some mystery person was dropping by at her house of Alicia sending Aurora a message. Again my question is WHY NOW! AFTER 11 years someone decided to send her these tapes! Because she is with Jonathan now!!? She could have gotten them before and infiltrated the kings house for information! Like ugggghhh so many questions!!!!!

description

And then the ending! We finally get to know what Alicia was trying to tell her
So apparently Jonathan was drugging her and trying to kill her all along.

Like are you serious?
🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄
I was waiting for the Plot twist! And then when I read this I was disappointed.

Will I read the second book? Fuck yes because I NEED ANSWERS! But yeah I am really confused at the moment and rant over. Wait also one more thing, fingers crossed for less spanking in the next book because at first it was hot but then it was just being repeated again and again and again.

description

Also another thing 😂😂 Lmao Aurora says she wasn’t sexually assaulted but is dry from down, like she doesn’t get wet or turned on. She has been with many partners and even went with one of them to the sex club but nothing. Still dry as the sahara desert but then Jonathan sparks her and she is wet.
Again WHYYYYYYY

Sorry, I have no intention of reading this book in which the male character hooks up with his dead wife’s kid sister. Jonathan repeatedly tells Aiden to respect his mother’s memory and what does Jonathan do? He hooks up and pursues her kid sister who is also her lookalike. We could’ve gotten Jonathan and Alicia but the author chose to pursue an age gap because it’s “taboo”. Jonathan hasn’t been with another woman since Alicia passed and he’s now going to hook up with her kid sister who is a replica of her.

Also, this idea that Clarissa is the partner he deserves is so sick. Alicia’s mental illness did not make her less of a person, mother, or spouse. For Rina Kent to basically imply that in one of her latest instagram posts is sickening and harmful to those who are actual dealing with this irl.

She’s left so many plot holes and loose ends in regards to Alicia. Aiden was right, she’s better off dead and away from Jonathan.

Well that was pretty disappointing.

- What I liked -

· It entertained me enough
· Jonathan didn't really seem to love Alicia IMO, felt more like guilt, which makes the whole sister thing a bit easier to get over.
· No pining.
· OTT possessiveness.
· Him and Alicia didn't seem like they were that close.
· It's Daddy King, so a star alone for that.
· The writing style.
· Appearance of side characters I like.
· 17 year age gap.

-Reasons I didn't like this book-

· Sister double dipping.
· That is NOT Daddy King. He's an imposter, plain and simple. Where is the ruthlessness?
· Their pasts are super confusing and whose dad is who is really throwing me off.
· Aurora likes to pretend she cares about Alicia but has no remorse or second thoughts about sleeping with her husband.
· No chemistry
· He doesn't care about her enough to even really search for her for years, but one look at her and he's like "MINE". We are never given any explanation on WHY he wants her either, which leads me to believe that he only wants her because of how much she looks like Alicia.
· The development was OFF. One second they have ill preconceived notions about each other (that have no merit), the next it's all in sex and he becomes super possessive, in like what? Their third, short meeting?
· The sex was also boring, and he would only f**k her from the back, which again, makes me think it has something to do with Alicia. He also only kisses her once the entire book, and Aurora was the one who asked him to.
· All relationship aspects about them are completely glossed over, and told more than showed. Since I was never able to witness any of it, it made their romance even more lackluster and unbelievable. I get their lust, and that's really it.
· Time passes super quick, and the next thing I knew, they're in like month 2 of their relationship, and I definitely felt like I missed all the crucial details.
· Heroine annoyingly repeats literally everything she does with the hero to her friend *more boredom*.
· Aiden acted more immature in this book than his own books.
· Typical Rina book where the heroine can only get off from the hero.
· Literally every conversation with Aurora is them telling her how much she looks like Alicia. WE GET IT.
· Last, but definitely the biggest part I disliked about this book, is how much everything is about Alicia. Literally. All of the heroine's own problems are pretty much swept under the rug, because Alicia's own are kept in the spotlight. She was always a shadow hanging over Aurora and Jonathan's relationship, because she was CONSTANTLY brought up and talked about, or thought about, or compared to Aurora with. We are literally beaten over the head with nonstop everything Alicia, and I was just so over it. While I did want answers about her death and her relationship with Jonathan (we didn't get any), I didn't want to read an entire book about her.

Overall thoughts, so many things wrong with this book, which is super disappointing with how how much I had anticipated Jonathan's story. It's not even the sister double dipping that bothered me really, but just how dull everything was. I felt like we definitely needed Jonathan's POV to explain to us how he was feeling because I still don't understand him. I am still hoping the second book actually gives us answers and redeems this book and romance, but it would have fo be amazing. I just need MORE, and I'm hoping the second book actually gives it to me.

P.S. Why do authors STILL write duets? I thought we already established that they're cursed?

"Jonathan king.

A ruler in this world.

An actual king who holds more power than the queen herself "

OMG JONATHAN KING!!

What did you do to me?

I definitely wasn't ready for all this .

I'm on a rollercoaster of emotion that won't stop.

I don't even know how to describe what I just read.

Jonathan King invented the definition of Alpha male .

His authority ,his need to control everything and succeding in doing just that is going to blow your mind.

"He's an investor. A commander . A ruler.

If he sets his sights on something, there's no stopping him until he either gets it or ruins it.

Black or white . There's no grey in his dictionary."

The word DADDY is going to haunt me forever (in a really good way).

Usually I'm not to much tempted or intrigued in reading about stories with age gap,

but let me tell you something : Jonathan will make you change your mind almost instantly!

We finally had the chance to see the real and most feared King and It was even better than what I expected .

The way he owns himself in every situation , and how he's always a step ahead is really something else.

Seeing the evolution of his relationship with Aurora was like assisting at a chess game : you'll never imagine

what will happen next , only time and actions will speak eventually.

"The fact that he has his emotions trapped in a vault , or worse, they don't exist at all , makes him unpredictable.✨

There's no way in hell to figure out what he's thinking about, and I guess that's what turns me into this confused ball whenever he's around."

Aurora is a self made strong and independent woman , who wouldn't knee not even for the devil himself.

Jonathan met his match in her.

She challenged him since the beginning , pushing his buttons , craving his reactions and punishments designed

only for her . He is everything she shouldn't want but at the same time she craved his touch like oxygen.

"Aurora or Clarissa or whatever name she goes with is now mine.

Literally.

Figuratively.

In every sense of the word."

The chemistry and the sexual tension where on an another level , I loved it (I won't look at a Carbonara the same ever again ;) )

And the little moments when we see finally Aiden , Elsa , Levi and Astrid where too much for my heart .

And that END ?! What was that? I don't thing I can wait another day or another month to see what will possible happen next after that plot twist.

I won't spoiler anything but I'll tell you this : you should prepare yourself , Jonathan will have you so hooked that you won't know what to do with your life next !

"The only reason you haven't been owned before is because I hadn't come along yet"

I gave it absolutely 5 stars.⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I hope you'll enjoy it like I did!

Enjoy✨

4 stars it is.
I read the book 2(Rise of a Queen) and I had written that if next book met my expectations then I will increase the no. of stars.
------
First of all I really liked this book. This book is kind of different from Rina Kent's usual style.Nonetheless,I liked it.

***Might Contain Spoilers***
When I read Rule of a Kingdom I was intrigued.Aurora's company needs help ,I like such kind of tropes where heroine is rich/owns company or makes herself rich.I also liked her best friend.I also liked this thing a lot and I mean A LOT that Aurora is a serial killer's daughter.Don't ask me why I just liked it a lot,but I wish there were more scenes regarding that or will be there in the next book(Rise of a Queen),I want more scenes with her father's victims family),it will be very interesting.

The thing that I didn't understand was why Jonathan wanted to sleep with Aurora,I mean I know he wanted the information and after their arrangement that changed but for information ,sleeping with someone else didn't make sense ,he told eventually she will tell the secrets ,in that time he could have talked blackmailed and eventually slept with her but in starting itself, he slept with her...,she was his DEAD WIFE's SISTER

I felt whatever happened between them was a little too fast.Maybe we will find many things cleared in next book(Rise of a Queen).
Well that was my only issue😅.
Anyway I feel bad and will feel bad for Alicia, she was such a good woman😪.

Why not 5 stars?
Because of reason mentioned above and I had few high expectations ,maybe if I didn't I would have rated this book higher. You know what happens when you have expectations.

Also,I felt this book didn't have that 5 star or amazing factor, well this usually happens with series or cliffhangers but when the series end I usually end up increasing the stars so...that might happen with this book too.

Sister double-dipping is the worst romance trope ever. Please stay away from family previous partners, there's a lot of fish in the sea.
The book was fine except for the sister double-dipping 😬, their relationship felt rushed but hopefully there's more development in the second book.

this was pretty good, really entertaining <33 I despise everything about men like jonathan irl. controlling, doesn’t take no for an answer. but since it’s fiction we’ll let it slide i guess 😵‍💫 also of all people why did he have to have aurora as a love interest !?!. I can’t spoil, but it’s just messed up.

anyways, hopefully the next book is way better

I'll just keep this short and sweet and to the point.

About 70% into the book, I was really loving it. I was totally digging the plot, the writing, and the characters. I loved the hero, Johnathon; he was the perfect anti-hero. I was all for the rivalry between Johnathon and his ex-friend, Ethan.

Then Johnathon said this:
"He and I [Ethan and Johnathon] bet who could marry the more mentally unstable person."

I was like what the hell? Did he mean what I think he did? Did he just include something extremely sensitive in a childish bet? Did he just make a silly bet on a sensitive matter like mental illness? If anything can make me dislike a hero it is his insensitivity towards mental illness and the fact that Johnathon's ex-wife, Alicia, had severe depression didn't make me like Johnathon at all. Gonna knock off 2 stars for that.

The jury is still out on whether I'll read the second book of this duet.

One word: Daddy.

Rina always has a way to bring a character (or several) to their knees, but what she does and I never expect as a reader, is to bring me to my knees.

Daddy has always been mine. (Fighting is fruitless, but feel free.)

I remember writing/messaging Rina for the first time and immediately, we clicked. As soon as we were friends, I bugged her for Daddy Johnny and have had to keep the secret since March.

Believe me, it was hard.

I sometimes wonder how she hasn't blocked me, but HERE WE ARE.

Daddy was everything and more in this book. There was intrigue, lust, explosive scenes that made me squirm, and an aura only Johnny could offer. I can't say anything without saying something and I'm too excited to not talk about him for days on end. Or, in this case, months. Since I read his book in June.

You are not ready.

I don't talk about books a lot. As an author, I know readers believe we can be skewed on how we feel, which isn't the case for me. So, when I do talk, rave, rant about books, they're coming from me. My soul. My desire for books.

Rina writes the way I love, which means I love her books.
Her characters are flawed, callous, and ruthless in their endeavors, which is what I love about humans. Their tenacity to grow and be more is insane. Her characters have drive, and that's exactly how I'd describe Daddy.
Driven.
Tenacious.
Ruthless.
Daddy exists for me, and IDK how to explain it, but he does. lol

He's the king, and we'll all fall for him.

I hope you enjoy this first installment with his woman and a certain "other character" who makes me feel as real as they do for me.

Much love, and tacos,
C.L.

“Aurora or Clarissa or whatever name she goes with is now fucking mine.
Literally.
Figuratively.
In every sense of the word.”

I was curious about Jonathan King ever since I read about him in Aiden's book and I must say his son is nothing compared to him. Reign of a King is a dark themed romance with an alpha anti-hero and a strong but submissive heroine. There are underlying mysteries perfectly woven into the storyline and I must say I am more excited about the mystery and suspense side of this story than Jonathan and Aurora's dom-sub relationship.

Aurora is both free-spirited and stubborn but there's a quality of vulnerability about her. She's not a tamed heroine and she knows her worth and fights for it even if she has to go against Jonathan. Rina graciously gives us glimpses into her past and it is clear how much that has shaped her and I can't wait to know more about her in book 2.

Jonathan is the definition of an arrogant anti-hero. He is cold, ruthless and calculating with an enigmatic quality because you can never understand his motives. He exudes power and money and has a domineering presence and as Aurora's bestfriend says “Jonathan is sugar daddy material” and I agree. I had trouble connecting with him at first as he was just behaving like an arrogant and possessive asshole when it comes to Aurora and it was not cute or sexy. It was irritating as hell and he needs to take a chill pill.

“I'm the one who decides whatever the fuck I want to do with you. Aver all, you're my property.”

My woman. My property. I am so sick of this trope in dark romance.

Jonathan and Aurora definitely has the off the charts chemistry but it was just physical attraction for the most part of this book. I hate the dead wife's sister trope but so far it's going good in this story. The tension when they first met was apparent and then eventually they started interacting more, it felt as if they were more comfortable around each other than they were around anyone else. Jonathan acted all dom and “You are my property” on Aurora all the damn time in this book and I hated it. Aurora also pushed him to his limits with her stubborness and honestly, that was the only time I was enjoying their dom-sub relationship.

The sky is full of stars, which is so rare to see in the city.
“So beautiful,” I breathe out, throwing my head back to enjoy the view.
“Indeed.”
My gaze slides back to Jonathan to find his entire attention on me, not the sky. Me.

The only normal moment Jonathan and Aurora had in this book was this.

My major issue with this book was how Rina handled Aurora's incapability of feeling anything during sex. At first, Aurora said she cannot feel things during a sexual intercourse because she is dead inside but she had her first orgasm the very first moment Jonathan decided to finger her and punish her (slap her arse) for her tardiness. And I get that maybe Aurora is a masochist who wants to feel pain because it's better than being numb but still the slapping the arse everytime Aurora did something wrong was too much or maybe I am just a vanilla bitch.

“As much as you say you hate me, your body unravels around me, Aurora. This body is my fucking property.”

What the actual hell was that ending? I was not expecting that and I still don't believe it. I'm eager to learn more about Alicia's personality and the mystery surrounding her death. Hopefully, the second book is better.

I heard so much about Miss Kent. Her books are mainly NA romance. I was looking forward to read Reign of a King. And I sorely disappointed. The romance involving BDSM is something I like. But this book makes BDSM ridiculous. The chemistry between Aurora (the name is so cliche) and Jonathan is stiff and forced.

The plot to develop more chemistry/ vulnerable moment between Aurora and Jonathan does not enhanced the climax of the plot. While listening to the audio book, I paused for so long because nothing really catches me or makes me wanting to read more. The dialog between the characters are cold.

My first 2 stars in 2021.

I really tried to stay positive when going into this, but, gosh, the author loves to shove down the fact that Aurora looks like Alicia every single time.

It starts to get real annoying, and it only successfully cements the fact that Jonathan only like Aurora because she looks like his dead wife.

Every time a character met Aurora, they are like: "Oh my God carbon copy of Alicia"
I don't understand why the author decided to take this route.
WHY THE SISTER???Can't they at least look different from one another?I am not even asking much.

The author "tries" to portray Aurora as this badassery, but all she did is leave a bad taste on my mouth.
Aurora love to emphasis that she won't back down with Jonathan, but one flick of his finger and her whole body goes instantly wet.
For the first time may I add.*Roll eyes*

Can it get any more convoluted?

Aurora and Alicia have a great relationship, so I dont understand how she could do that to Alicia, she says she feels "guilty," but I honestly couldn't feel it since she has no problems, or reservation, riding on her husband's dick.

I am so glad Aiden gave Aurora the snide by saying Jonathan only liked her because she looks exactly like Alicia.

That bitch-Aurora-needs reminding, because she has obviously forgotten that fact after getting her first orgasm.

Well, it doesn't really matter, she still riding and grinding Jonathan's dick after that, with no resistance AT ALL.

And let me tell you, so many people have told her he is using her only because she is a Carbon copy of Alicia, but of course that doesn't stop her because Orgasm over mind apparently.

The excuse that she couldn't leave him because Jonathan would destroy her company would be a good one if she chooses not to sleep with him.
I doubt he would point a gun to your head and force you to sleep with him.
It's like, aren't you suppose to be the smart one here?
‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️

I still can't believe there isn't any ACTUAl conversation regarding them sleeping together.
Its like they want to stay in this obvious denial that they are not betraying the memory of their spouse/sister's memory by doing it.

Jonathan was an okay Alpha male lead, but i don't think he really live up to the hype that everyone is throwing at him.Oh,I almost forget,I hate how he keeps comparing Aurora to Alicia, like, I get it, you want some fire in your woman, but you don't have to degrade those that loves peace and predictability.I remember him saying that Aurora is like fire, and Alicia is like earth, people step over her.

Your no better, "sir", your one of them.

Still, on the bright side, at least this is a tad better than My Darling Arrow.
You will need to have no sense of self-respect to go through with that one.

Jonathan “Sexy Daddy” King

#0.5 Rule of a Kingdom — 2 stars
#1 Reign of a King — 2.25 stars

Jonathan King is trying too hard to live up to his name cause theres too much tyranny & spanKings in this book. im not impressed. his sudden interest towards Aurora made no sense at all unless its because of her relation to his dead wife, Alicia (which, if thats indeed the case, then... eww). as for Aurora, i feel like shooting her in the head 👽🔫 supposedly, she cant get wet down there, but she did for the first time because of Jonathan. it couldve been more believable/less eye-roll worthy if RK had made Jonathan work for it instead of having him successful in his first attempt.

Aurora was also a terrible detective. she claimed to want to investigate her sisters death, but she did zilch other than snooping in Alicias old room. she talked fondly about her, but she barely knew her. the topic of Alicia was brought up a lot, but we learned nothing about her relationship & marriage with Jonathan and how/why she died. my only consolation was the fact that Auroras best friend was a muslim and the guilty pleasure i got from watching Jonathan ‘baby’ Aurora. like, when he made her sit on his lap and finger-f*cked her while she ate her breakfast. i mean, yeSs Daddy i want🤠

(read as an audiobook)
