My thanks to BooksGoSocial and NetGalley for a review copy of this book.

Mrs R Snugglesworth is a 70-pound ‘butter colored English Labrador Retriever’, who lives happily with her family for whom she has her own names, the Kitchen (mom), the Vacuum (Dad) and kids, eleven-year-old ‘Snicker’, and ‘Crunchy’, who’s eight. As she (not only our ‘heroine’ but also the narrator of out tale) tells us, her first few years have been spent doing the usual dog things, but now, she wishes to do more. Crossword-puzzle champion, ski instructor, electrician, are some of the options that cross her mind, but one day at the local Bark Park, she finds herself doing jury duty at the dog court (among the many activities that dogs engage in when they congregate at the doggie park, in case you were wondering) and this experience decides her. She must become an attorney-at-law, dog law that is! So she enrols at Wagsworth Legal Academy (also at the Bark Park) with plans to be the Best. There though, she’s paired up with Maple Lane for classes and he turns out to be ultra-competitive and constantly trying to pull her down.

Meanwhile as she’s just starting to attend lectures, she comes across a dog Pitter Patter who’s been unfairly accused of breaking dog law and is up for trial in a few days time. While not yet a qualified lawyer (dog law classes last for only 7 days, but there are tests to be undergone to qualify at the end), Mrs R Snugglesworth volunteers her services and begins to investigate the allegations against Pitter Patter, while trying to keep up with her classes alongside. But things start to go less than perfectly, for while she’s determined to practice her skills, she gets distracted when her humans offer belly rubs, and then interesting food found in the street throws her completely off course. With all this to contend with, does she get through law school? Can she help clear Pitter Patter’s name?

What an absolutely delightful and fun story this was. A quick read at under a hundred pages, this also has some great black and white illustrations by Jon Davis which includes a lovely couple of pages at the start with the entire cast of characters (only the canine ones, mind).

I loved that Flanagan has created this inventive and entertaining story staying entirely within the ‘ordinary’ realm—we do not get transported to a dogs-only land nor are the characters anthropomorphised. We stay very much in this world, and all of the dogs behave very much like dogs—enjoying their walks, pats, play time and time with their humans, trats found by chance on the street, interactions with their doggie pals, but still must act at all times within the requirements of dog laws, violations of which can result in some very serious punishments. If proven of course.

The classes that Mrs Snugglesworth undergoes at the academy are a great deal of fun, and I especially liked how these combined dog and human elements. For instance, skills like ‘being invisible’ must be practiced, but alongside they also have lectures on precedents where Case Law (including The Case of the Killer Paw) is discussed in detail. While these were two classes we get to ‘attend’, there are also classes on Stealth Evidence gathering and Forensics among others and the instructors include Dr Shadow and Torts!

Mrs R Snugglesworth starts off with her work very well arranging things so that she can investigate Pitter Patter’s case as well, but she is after all a dog at heart and gets distracted when there is temptation in the way. This made her a character I felt children too would appreciate better since she is ‘realistic’ if that makes sense. She does do her best to set things right, and it is fun watching her tackle both her law degree and the case, when time is short and mistakes have already been made. She does have some good luck along the way, but this doesn’t mean she gets things easily for she has to face challenges as well.

I enjoyed myself thoroughly reading this book, and found it both amusing and clever (with the exception of one term that is used—imaginative yes, but not to my taste). I think from one possible development/observation towards the end, we can expect a sequel too, which I’d love to read whenever it’s out.

A gentle and gently amusing story of an English Labrador named Mrs. Snugglesworth, who helps other dogs who frequent the Bark Park sort out their problems with a little canine legal expertise and kindness.

Mrs. Snugglesworth has just started her several days long law program delivered by dogs knowledgeable about forensics, invisibility and other important skills necessary for a good canine lawyer, when she takes on a case for a good friend, Pitter-Patter, who has been falsely accused of damaging a stuffed toy. He's desperate, as he could be ostracised for several days at the Bark Park if the real culprit is not found. Mrs. Snugglesworth immediately begins investigating, using her excellent nose and good sense, while making sure she keeps a watchful eye, and nose, out for ham falling into her food bowl.

This was sweet. Mrs. Snugglesworth is kind, wants to make sure things are resolved properly, and gets believably distracted, many times, over her investigation. Her other dog friends are wonderful, and feel realistically doggy, even while they were learning to be lawyers or judging a case. I enjoyed this story much more than I expected to, and wonder if Mrs. Snugglesworth will have any future opportunities to apply her new legal degree.

Thank you to Netgalley and to BooksGoSocial for this ARC in exchange for my review.

Stories from a dog’s point of view always have the possibility of being entertaining. Just think of Hank the Cowdog or J.J. Tully in The Trouble with Chickens and how humorous their interpretations of events and their responses can be. The same is true of Mrs. R. Snugglesworth. She is “seventy-pounds-of-low-to-the-ground PRECIOUS.” (She tells us so herself.) Mrs. R. explains that jury duty at the Bark Park led to her decision to pursue a career as a lawyer. Luckily, law school only takes a week for dogs - and it will need to be quick, because she has her first case before she has even completed her training. The students of the Legal Beagles must learn “Case Law, and Stealth Evidence Gathering Forensics.” Of course, Mrs. R. isn’t worried about being stealthy. She is already very good at “Not Arousing Suspicion” so that she can “sneak extra treats.” But she will need to organize her humans into taking her on walks to gather evidence, make sure she gets to Wagsworth Legal Academy on time each day, and prepare to defend her client against charges of “Intentional Destruction of a Stuffed Animal.” Along with “Being the Best at Finding Slightly Used Sandwiches” we are lucky that Mrs. R. is also “Best at Telling Really Good Stories.” If we are even luckier, she might tell us another one soon.

Mrs. R snugglesswarth attorney at law is called Mrs. R for short. She is 70 pounds low to the ground precious and the best at everything. So when she is called to jury duty she enjoys it and decide to become a doggy lawyer. Before she can finish though her friends going to need her help and Mrs. R being the best of everything and that includes being the kindest the sides to help her. This week was one of the funniest cutest books I’ve read. I thought it was a children’s book and it can be read to children but as a grown adult I thought it was hilarious. I love that she calls the mom and dad kitchen and vacuum in the kids snicker and crunchy… I also thought it was so funny how shadow was a doctor because for health reasons he stole a man’s steak. They have so many clever jokes in this book not to mention a really nice story and some great insight on how your dog really thinks. I received this book from NetGalley and the author and I am leaving this review voluntarily please forgive any mistakes as I am blind and dictate my review but all opinions are definitely my own.

Pet lovers, adults and children will adore this hilarious and heartwarming introduction to Mrs R Snugglesworth and her canine friends. In this delightful first story, Mrs R Snugglesworth must complete her lawyer training and dig her friend Pitter Patter out of a hole. With her sass and larger than life character, readers are in for an extremely entertaining read as she aims to do just that! From the beginning, I was hooked and completely invested in the story, with its laugh out loud moments, and that fuzzy warm feeling from Mrs R Snugglesworth and her canine companions that every dog lover knows. The soppy terms of endearment gave a comical element and were relatable as we all know, and some of us are guilty of that crazy kind of affection for our pooches! The characters are great fun and very believable, the dialogue superb, I loved the doggy terminology. The story moves at a good pace, my only complaint would be that it ends too soon. There were no major issues identified that could pull me out of such a fabulous tale, and I am looking forward to the next book! (Benjamin Book Tour Reviewer)

I loved this book. From beginning to end, it was a joy. Aimed at confident readers to enjoy alone, it would also work well as a bed-time story for younger children. The illustrations – black and white sketches – are well drawn, easily identify the characters, and provide wonderful and engaging facial expressions for the dogs. The tableau of canine personalities at the front of the book (including Hiccup, the cuddly toy) is a masterstroke, and will have kids checking again and again to see what type of dog is their favourite character. The author’s wonderful writing style, and her ability to present the tale humorously, through the eyes of Mrs R Snugglesworth, is unique and accomplished. Highly recommended. (Spooky Book Tour Reviewer)

Taking me back to my own childhood days, this pawfect little tale follows the adventures of life in law, told through the eyes of an adorable canine protagonist. What was particularly pleasing about this book was the attention to detail – the author has gone to great lengths to present every aspect of the story from the unique perspective of a dog, even writing and speaking in a style that would befit man’s best friend. I especially liked the references to the humans within the story, my favourite being the lady of the family affectionately called ‘The Kitchen’ much to my own amusement. I even liked the way the dogs communicated with each other, specifically the ‘peemail’ approach, which I thought was pretty ingenious. Throughout the book there is consistency in the doggish approach and the author never once loses Mrs. R.’s ‘voice’ nor that of the other doggy friends and foes the feature. Each breed of dog is given its own quirks and personality traits and these are clearly portrayed in all chapters, resulting in believable if not entirely relatable (well they are dogs after all) characters! With a fast-paced plot line (perhaps a little too fast in places as I would have liked more information on canine law school) and distinctive concept, the author grabs you from the first page. An imaginative and attention-grabbing book, perfect for young pups growing in confidence with their reading. The Book Dragon awards this paws-itively delightful read. (Poppy Book Tour Reviewer)

I must admit, I was immediately drawn to reading this book by the cover illustration and concept embodied in the title – ‘Mrs. R. Snugglesworth Attorney-at-Law’ – and was pleased by the opportunity to review it. I was further delighted to find further illustrations inside – not necessarily standard for a chapter book – which really elevate the action, with images of each canine character in the narrative provided. The book is written from the perspective of Mrs. R. Snugglesworth herself, and that perspective provides a platform for plenty of humour. Despite being much older than the targeted demographic, I really enjoyed the irony and interpretation of the world; the twists on canine behaviour (which are very familiar as a former dog owner) made for a very amusing read. I would go so far as to say that dog lovers of all ages might enjoy it – and with its distinctive, yet accessible protagonist, I think it presents a good opportunity for reading to slightly younger children. As a book that’s very focused on dogs, humour, and a highly self-assured narrator (The Best at Loving Ham), there’s always the chance it may miss the mark with some readers, but not so at all for me. I had high hopes set by the premise and artwork, and they were exceeded. (Bella Book Tour Reviewer)

Mrs. R. Snugglesworth’s story offers an imaginative and hilarious peek at a dog’s life. Her unique point of view, trying to make sense of the world around her, is funny and charming. Dog owners will love recognising aspects from their own pets’ daily routines in Mrs. R. Snugglesworth’s words. The main character’s strong personality, her disposition to learn and her audacity set a great example for children. She is super confident, and nothing can stop her. A very positive message about how to never surrender and to do your best to achieve your objectives. Commit to a cause, fight for it, and you’ll find a way to succeed. This light-hearted story will engage young readers from the beginning and keep them turning the pages and laughing until the end. Short chapters divide the story into manageable sections and the prose is dynamic and easy to follow. The book is packed with funny names and descriptions that will make you giggle even once youve finished it. This is a highly entertaining story not only for children but also for the grown-ups reading it aloud with them. (Shiba Book Tour Reviewer)

Although this is a children’s book, I thoroughly enjoyed it and it brought back happy memories of having a dog myself. As I read, I recalled their antics and little behaviours. I can quite easily believe that peemail would be something that dogs would use to communicate and found this an amusing and creative idea. The story made me feel joyful and I often found myself laughing out loud. Since reading the book, it has made me observe the dogs I see whilst out walking and wonder what is going on in their heads. The illustrations that accompany the book work beautifully alongside it and elevate this delightful creation even further. (Albie Book Tour Reviewer)

From the very minute I set eyes on this book I had a good feeling about it. It’s beautifully presented, with wonderful illustration work by Jon Davis, and the text and back cover blurb immediately engaged me. They say don’t judge a book by its cover, but thankfully in this case, my instincts were right! The book is intelligent, witty and creative and the writing flows naturally. Amy has created a wonderous world within our own, a world where we can imagine what may be going on in our beloved animals’ brains. It’s a book that can be equally enjoyed by children and adults and the lessons it teaches (but never preaches) within its pages cover universal themes that humans can also relate to. Oh my goodness what an adorable story. This would make a charming bedtime story for young readers or even a chapter book for those ready for more.

Mrs. R. Snugglesworth decides to become an attorney and go to law school. She gets her first client, a Great Dane named Pitter Patter, accused of stealing his human's beloved stuffed animal. Except Mrs. R has not yet finished law school. On the day of Pitter's trial, Mrs. R has not yet graduated but she is determined to represent Pitter, so she goes with step 2 to pass (no spoilers - read to find out!).

The story is told from Mrs. R's point of view and she is the Best at Just About Everything. The author is completely believable that she could be a dog and I very much enjoyed the story and the smiles it offered. The book seemed to end with a possibility for more and you can definitely sign me up to read more of them.

Highly recommend for anyone who loves smart doggos and slightly used sandwiches.

My thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for this ARC. My opinions in this review are my own.

Mrs. R Snugglesworth is written by Amy Flanagan. This book is 96 pages. I read this with my 11 and 9 year old sons and we really enjoyed it. We have three dogs and it brought up great conversations to what if our dogs were trying to solve other dogs problems and legal issues. Every day when Mrs. R humans take her to the Bark Park - and after serving on jury duty Mrs. R is pulled aside and asked if she has ever considered attending law school. Mrs. R previously had wanted to be Ski-Instructor-Electrician-Puzzle-Champion, but a lawyer? that is not what Mrs. R had considered. It was fun to go on the adventure and see what dog law school was. Now I wonder what my dogs have been up to when they go to the dog park... have they been secretly getting a degree?

The illustrations in the book tie the story together nicely. There is a lot of humor and wit sprinkled in throughout. My children and I really enjoyed this book. My 9 year old took this book into school to show his teacher. We cannot wait to see what Mrs. R is up to next!

Thank you to the author, publisher and Children's Book Review for allowing me to read a copy of this book - all thoughts are my own.

I expected a picture book and was thus pleasantly surprised when i discovered it was a chapter book.
It's a really cute story about a dog who has a healthy sense of worth as she becomes a lawyer. There are lots of puns and slight perspective shifts with a dog point of view. (The mother and father are The Kitchen and The Vacuum) which had me laughing at several points throughout the story. While some of those might not be fully grasped by a young reader, this story is rich in morals and character development. (Ex: the importance of keeping promises (integrity) or being forthright over lying about a situation).
I feel like this book ended with a sense of completeness but also the possibility of more cases for Mrs. R. Snugglesworth - and I'm here for it!
My only disappointment would be the low number of illustrations in the book. I'd like to see a few more for those young readers who are hesitant to read books without pictures.
I received a dARC from the publisher via NetGalley; this is my honest review.

Have you ever wondered what your pet dog was thinking when they look at you with their puppy-dog eyes. When my dog tilts his head it’s very cute, but it seems like a great way to communicate. If you love dogs and try to communicate with them, you will absolutely love Mrs. R. Snugglesworth, Attorney-at-Law.

In this book, Mrs. R. (as she likes to be called), wants to become an attorney, so she attends the law school, which meets in the Bark Park. Everyday her humans take her there. There are so many hilarious tales of how she lives her life with humans. Law school isn’t easy, and she has to deal with a know-it-all dog named Maple Lane.

This book makes a fun book for bedtime stories where you could read a couple of chapters each night. Children will enjoy looking forward each night to see what trouble Mrs. R. has gotton into next.

A cute children's book. Kind of reminds me of some Disney films where the joke is intended to go over the head of the children a little and to be fun for the adult as well.

I thought that the concept of a peemail was pretty creative as well as dog attorney's.

When I read children's books, in the back of my mind is whether I would purchase the book for my niece and nephew; and in this case I do believe that I would want to do so.

Thank you to NetGalley for the opportunity to read Mrs. R. Snugglesworth, Attorney-At-Law in exchange for an honest review. Many thanks also to the author Amy Flanagan and to the publisher BooksGoSocial. Publication date is June 15 2022.

NETGALLEY ARC

2.5 stars

While I was well aware of the age group going into this, it was still too immature for me, but decently cute for a child. I was enticed by the artwork (which is darn right adorable and the best part, IMO) and title and hoping I could find some enjoyment, but it honestly was somewhat annoying and I ended up skimming at some point. What bothered me was the Overuse of Capitalizing Things and the haughty tone; again, though, it's likely amusing and humorous for the kiddos. Teaches lessons about humility, too (owning mistakes, correcting lying, etc).

15 chapters, plus an epilogue, cute drawings on most pages, and an elementary school reading level.

ARC received via NetGalley, and boy am I glad I did. Mrs. R Snugglesworth, Attorney-at-Law was a most delightful short read. I really want Amy to write more on Mrs. R - she's a hoot and a half!

Just take this paragraph for instance:

Some dogs think jury duty is a real drag and will do anything to get out of it - fake a broken toe, pretend something's in their eye, or claim they have a "bathroom emergency." That's the biggest lie of them all. When the world world is a bathroom, it's never an emergency.

Mrs. R. Snugglesworth, Attorney-at-Law by Amy Flanagan is a wonderful children's book. I read it along with my son and he was absolutely delighted at the characters and the cute story. Highly recommend this book for readers of many ages. We read a digital galley that was a little hard to read. I'm sure the hard copy of the book would be amazing. I received a digital copy of this book from the publisher with no obligations. These opinions are entirely my own.

Mrs. R Snugglesworth, Attorney-at-Law is a 90-pages book well suited for young readers between 8 and 12. It’s fun, quirky and whimsical. It’s original and very imaginative. I thought it was very funny to see “human concepts” diverted in such a way it had a new life of its own in the animal world (like “passing the bar” or “peemail”, etc.).

The writing style flows well and it’s well paced, you can easily finish it in one sitting. Highly recommend if you’re looking for a fun light read.

Thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for letting me review this book. This book reminds me of the “Martha Speaks” books. This was a quick read and I loved the part about how each hair is strategically placed yet gets vacuumed up regardless. I like how the dog stands by her friends and takes responsibility. The Best at… did get a tad tedious at times.

This book is overwhelmingly precious and very funny. The title dog, Mrs. R Snugglesworth is charming and sets about earning her law degree in order to help a friend. There’s plenty of jokes that adults (particularly if those adults are lawyers) will enjoy if they are reading it with a wee one. Also, the way the author writes the internal dialogue of Mrs. R is well done and perfectly captures the energy of a derpy, lovable dog.

A delightful read. Will be buying a copy for my niece.
