One-Shot In this special one-shot featuring awesome art by FRANCIS MANAPUL (Clear Justice League) Val reflects on her hard and sometimes merciless past in the wake of the shocking events at the conclusion of "Pedal to the Metal."
But when an unlikely ally reveals a way to find Val's convoy and take them to Eos Val must go against her every instinct in order to trust this new partner.

The world of Nocterra is something I stubbled upon purely by chance last month. I ordered a book through Barns & Noble, and was very close to getting free shipping so I browsed the Graphic novels and decided to get Nocterra vol 1. I instantly bought Vol 2 when I finished that and wondered if there would be any more.
Then I found out about this one shot, came out today, and I picked it up. This has more in common with vol 1 than vol 2, we are back to focusing on Val, no shock as it is the "Val Special". I like how when we are in a flash back it just says "then" and when we come back to the present it just says "now". The art is as good as always. In this story, Val comes back for Driggs, and while dragging him around she is internally waxing philosophical about the nature of Charon the first ferrymen (over the river Styx) and her own nature. We also get to see how the Ferrymen got started and how she got involved.
The main thing here is I was unsure if the story was going to go on or not, but this confirms the story will pick up where this leaves off in issue 12. If that is so, seems are coming full circle to focus on Val again, and are likely in for some skipping around with two parallel stories going on between Val and what's she doing, and the rest of the Sundog convoy and what they are up too. I felt the quality slip just a little between vol 1 and vol 2, but this tells me it's going to maintain if not go back to the slightly better former. I'm on board for the ride.
I would read more Nocterra based on this issue(my first read issue of the series). Very well illustrated and written. Pacing is good and the world and story are interesting and immersive.
