This one was fun.

Some of the questions and comments I got as they were reading the book (2 first graders were particularly interested in it):

"They're wearing wigs!"

"Haha that's funny, they're brushing their wigs so they don't have to brush their hair!"

"They switched their wigs, look!"

"You should read this one next, it's weird!"

I started bringing in some books for my kids at my after-school center to read while they finish their snack and wait for the other groups to transition. I chose this one because the pictures tell enough of a story that even pre-readers can get a lot out of the book (I work with 5-7 year olds, and most of them are lower-ability readers). I wasn't sure how they'd feel about this one, so I was pleasantly surprised that a lot of them did gravitate to this one despite the higher level of text complexity.

My kids did pick up on the wigs and the story line in general. Some of the questions and comments I got as they were reading the book (2 first graders were particularly interested in it):

"They're wearing wigs!"

"They switched their wigs, look!"

One of the questions at the back of the book asks the kids to consider why people or animals might wear wigs, and this was something the kids picked up on easily even without being prompted. It is a very enjoyable read even without being able to read all the words, and I'm really glad this one captivated my students' interest as much as it did.
