Men of Charlestown #2

His Christmas Wish

Rate this book
For most children, all they want for Christmas is the latest video game or the most popular toy, but that’s not what Daniel wants. He wants to be a family again. Since his parents were killed in a horrific car accident over a year ago, Daniel had been living with his beloved Uncle Josh. Even though Daniel knows his Uncle does his best to make him happy, Daniel still longs for the contentment and secure feeling he felt when his parents were alive. He wants a family, and on the first magical snow of the season, he wishes to have a family again.

When Nick is interviewed by Joshua Thomas to be a live in nanny, he is immediately drawn to the young boy and his Uncle Josh. Even though both of them obviously love each other, there is something missing between them. When Nick gets the job, he becomes determined to bring laughter and happiness back into both of their lives. As Christmas quickly approaches, Nick decides to do whatever it takes to bring them together as a happy family forever.

A sweet simple Christmas time read.

This is a nice little story but lacks any real depth. Everything comes together perfectly.

Josh and Nick are sweet together but I found their pet names and sex scenes a little too cloying.

Daniel was an enjoyable addition but again at times just that little bit too perfect

An enjoyable but easily forgettable read.

This is the third book of Ms. Anderson that I read (the other two are just too saccharine for me). This one, for me, is better than the other two. I'm a sucker for kids in ANY M/M romance; so having one in here is a bonus. Both Josh and Nick are likeable protagonists, though I have my favor towards Nick. Hey, any 20 years old male who loves kids and wants to have his own daycare definitely gets my love. I enjoy the build up for the relationship, taking it slowly, as Nick making connection first with Danny (the kid nephew) other than Josh. And both contemplating good and bad of dating one's boss/employee.

BUT, I'm very, very annoyed when they're already get into the relationship, with the use of "baby" as terms of endearment. This is a very personal opinion, okay, might not even sound objective -- but I truly DISLIKE the word "baby" ... it's my least favorite terms of endearment. If it appears once or twice, I can take it, BUT reading those words said by Josh, over and over again just rubs me in the wrong way. Plus, I prefer reading the men in the story to say each other's name during sex, not using generic word like "baby" -- just to make sure that they actually know who they're sleeping with *grin*. That is why, I sort of skipping pages during the last two chapters; and practically don't care about them anymore

It's not the author's fault what-so-ever, but I think I just don't have "chemistry" with her stories :p

This was a cute story about a little boy, Danny, asking God for someone to take care of him and his uncle, Josh, and how he gets his wish in the form of Nick, who Josh hires as the nanny.

I loved the beginning scene of this book where Danny goes outside and proceeds to talk to God and his parents. It was just so cute I knew I was going to love this book right off and I did. It was adorable watching Josh and Nick dance around each other for a little while and then get together. How Nick just seemed to fit into Josh and Danny's lives.

The only thing that put me off was how quick Josh proposed to Nick. They barely knew each other a month and already they're going to get married. It was at the end but it still nagged me a bit. Then Danny said 'thank you' to God and his parents and I kinda got over it. Lol

A great start to a new series and I'd recommend it if you are looking for something cute and happy. :-)

I really enjoyed this heartwarming story about Daniel, a young orphan, who wishes for someone to come love and care for him and his Uncle Josh. I liked the characters and it was nice to see the slow development of the relationship between Josh and Nick, who turns out to be the answer to Daniel's prayers. Very sweet!

I had such fun with Andi Anderson first foray into the publishing world with a Christmas offering which I enjoyed immensely and THE CHRISTMAS WISH one of her latest was no less enjoyable to read for me.

The blurb is quite detail in terms of what’s in the book , so I wont go through the whole thing.

This is definately on the sweeter side to read with fun characters that pulls at your heartstring with how desperate they need each other but just could not take that next step to getting there.

The opening sentence: "Daniel looked at his sleeping Uncle and felt sad." OMG. Do you really have to say he "felt sad"?? The kid sits there crying, and you think you need to TELL us that he felt sad?? SHOW us, don't TELL us, fercrissake.

""Me, too. I've never felt this way before, Josh. I'll admit this scares me a little, but I'd be even more afraid of what I know I'd miss in my life if I didn't touch you, kiss you, and hold you close to me.""

Really?? Does ANYONE really talk like this??

Arg arg arg. Annoying writing throughout. And the MCs exchange wedding rings when they've known each other LESS THAN A MONTH.

Well anyway, you can tell I wasn't terribly impressed. It's a simple story -- emotionally remote man takes on the care of his young nephew after nephew's parents are killed. Everyone is unhappy for a year. Man then hires a live in manny for nephew (a nurse can AFFORD a live in manny?? Really??). Naturally, they fall in love. The End.

2011 Review:

Ugh. Okay, I read another short by the same author before this and I can sum them all up with: boring. Well, and extremely amateurish.

She means well and at least it’s not irritating, but, lord, a story needs a little more tension. Instead two guys meet, fall in love, and every step on the way is glorious and perfect. And we are told how glorious it is all the time. Also, how good they look. And how happy they are. Maybe the “being told” part is the biggest issue. All the actual character development stuff is just told in between scenes of mutual attraction. Got bored to death here.

Oh well. I decided after I just started on the first two pages of this that I’ll hit something intelligent up next, even if it might be slightly dangerous and/or kinky. I need some quality back in my life.

This one was such a sweet, sweet MM romance Christmas read...yeah I know I'm sadly out of season but...it's got it all :) Cute kid that tugs at the heartstrings, hurting hero that you just want to hug and make it all better and Mr Wonderful that wraps them all up in a great big bow of love for a very special Christmas miracle :D Seriousy...lovely character portrayals, smooth, easy writing style that lulled me into reading way past curfew and a plot that had me sighing with a capital AW! as this family finds their HEA together. Recommended for all those softies like me that can't go past a good Christmas read with kids, hurt heros and lots of good old fashioned man love :D

Andi has done it again with a very sweet Christmas story made up of faith, love, a mended heart and some steamy sex. I always enjoy the hot men, fun expressions and positive spin on life. I look forward to reading more in this series.

This little Christmas story is sweeter than sugar...if you like the saccharine 'Christmas miracle' type stories then this will appeal...if you like your stories to have some relation to reality, then this isn't your kind of book...I won't read it again but I'm glad I read it once.

Joshua Thomas is a nurse struggling to be a good parent to his seven-year-old nephew, Daniel, who lost his parents in a car accident a little over a year ago. Although Josh and Daniel love each other very much they lack cohesion. The night of the first snowfall of the season, Daniel wanders outside and makes a Christmas wish to have a family again. Nicholas Kirkland is a nanny-for-hire who loves kids and dreams of one day owning a daycare center. He applies for and is hired to be Daniel's live-in caretaker. His Christmas Wish is Josh and Nick's story about love, finding family, and making Daniel's Christmas wish come true.

This was a sweet Christmas story. Nick is the missing link: he compliments Josh's life and solidifies the relationship between Josh and Daniel. With Nick, Josh and Daniel become the family they both longed for. I liked the characters. Daniel was cute and I loved Fred, their chubby basset hound. While this is technically a friends to lovers story, I also consider it insta-love (blech!) because . I did, however, appreciate that they took things slow, especially considering they started as employer/employee.

On the down side, I felt there was too much telling and not enough showing in this book. Also, the story was a little boring for me because there was absolutely no angst, tension, mystery, or anything. It was nothin' but happy, happy, joy, joy once Nick entered the picture in chapter one; and, it was saccharine sweet to boot.

Bottom line: an angst-free (but saccharine sweet) Christmas story about finding family.

This is a super sweet Christmas story where Nurse Josh is searching for a nanny to care for his orphaned nephew Daniel. He finally hits pay-dirt when he finds Nick who lost his job as a daycare worker and is saving money to start his own daycare. Daniel and Nick hit it off and Josh is instantly attracted but knows he can't act as Nick is his employee and Daniel is just finally coming out of his shell after his parents' deaths. Of course the minute they kiss they are madly in love and will be together ever and ever. I really think Christmas stories should not include new relationships or should at least be mandatory HFN. If you've only known someone 2-3 weeks, even if living in the same house. So for those who enjoy stories with kids, and Daniel was pretty good as kids go in romance books, and who don't mind a pretty good dose of sugar, it's a good choice. Just a little rushed at the end in the relationship department.

I am such a sucker for books with kids in them if the kids are written right. Daniel was perfect. Daniel goes to live with his Uncle Josh (his mom's brother) after the death of his parents. For over a year Josh does what he can but he always feels as if he is failing Daniel somehow. Daniel, sad because he wants him and Uncle Josh to be happy again, makes a wish to God and to his parents. He wishes for a family. He loves his Uncle Josh but wants more... maybe someone to share their little world. His wish comes true when Josh hires Nick as a live-in nanny. There is instant attraction between the two but they hold off on acting on it. But when they do it is so sweet. Sure, once they kiss the first time everything happens pretty fast. They get close pretty quick... fall in love pretty quick and decide on forever pretty quick. But it works because of the length of the story.

Sweet story with a sweet ending. Another really good one by this author.

Very sweet story about Josh trying to raise his 7-year-old nephew Daniel after his twin sister and brother-in-law are killed. He's having a hard time managing it all and decides to hire a nanny to help. The last applicant turns out to be a young, attractive, gay man, Nick, who has dreams of opening his own daycare center. Josh is instantly attracted to Nick, but he wants to be sure he is the right person to halp with Daniel. The story takes place during the holidays and Nick and Josh have a difficult time not acting on the attraction they feel - so eventually they stop trying. They decide to go for it, without letting Daniel know about their budding relationship to see if they can make it work.

Very cute story with a lovely HEA. Danny is the cutest with his Christmas wishes to God.

OK, so its after Christmas already but I've still got heaps of Christmas stories to catch up on :)

I loved this story, Daniel was a little sweetheart and his talks with God at the beginning and end of the story brought tears to my eyes. His Christmas Wish is a gentle and easy to read story about making a child's wish come true that I thought made a wonderful and heartwarming start to Andie Anderson's Men of Charlstown series. I'm looking forward to the next book in the series - Yummy Indulgences.

This is an adorable story about a little boy, Daniel, whose parents recently passed away in a car accident. He is sent to live with his Uncle Josh and while they have a nice relationship, it isn't great. They haven't connected, both dealing with their grief. Daniel wishes for someone to make his Uncle Josh happy to bring the family together and that's exactly what he gets with the arrival of his new nanny, Nick.

His Christmas Wish is a heartwarming Christmas tale that left a big smile on my face. I enjoyed all of the characters and felt the connection between all of them.

I expected a more fleshed out story, but I should've considered the length of the book. I couldn't take most of the sex scenes seriously, sadly. There didn't seem to be much of a deep connection between Josh and Nick and it totally irked me that they were calling each other baby only minutes after having their first kiss. The interaction with Daniel was golden though, the little one stole the spotlight for me.

Better than book 1, but still not great... I like the story very much, and the characters are pretty well-rounded people, but the repetitive language yanked me out of the story every time. One doesn't have a sentence containing "their kisses started heating up" end with the word "each heated kiss." However, I did manage to not be bothered by the extraneous commas or the run-on sentences -- as I said, this was a better story than the first one. We'll see how #3 is...

Andi Anderson does a fabulous job of developing the relationship between Nick and Josh, add in the touch of Josh being guardian of his nephew Daniel, and Anderson shows in-depth gay connection between the men. Not normally one who reads M/M novels/novellas, I was intrigued by Anderson's writing style and would recommend this book to all that enjoy erotica, romance or GLTB. Kudos Andi-

It's very very sweet, and very fast transition from nice to meet you to lets get married. All characters are completely perfect, as well.

Reread Feb 2017: I assume my tastes have changed since I read this because now I'd rate it a 2. It was very sugary (and I love fluff!), too many "baby" endearments and everything went really really quickly without much story behind it.

What could be sweeter than a little boy's prayer for his Uncle to be happy and for them to be a real family again. The story is short so the relationship between Uncle Josh and Nick seems a bit rushed yet despite that their feelings seem very real and the joy that comes to all of them is a true Christmas miracle.

I absolutely fell in love with Daniel, he was such a sweet and loving little boy. I was so choked up reading him talking to God at the beginning and then again at the end. It was sweet how Nick and Josh came together and I loved that Daniel got his biggest wish for his Uncle Josh to fall in love with someone that would take care of all of them. On to book 2.
