Hockey Gods

Secret Obsession

Rate this book
Hockey goalies are known to be obsessive—but none more so than my ex’s brother.

I just didn’t expect to be on the receiving end of his dark possessive streak.

After a mortifying public break up with his older brother and teammate, Miles Whiteshaw declares me as his. That I’ve always been his, minus my year-long lapse in judgment.

The only problem? I’ve sworn off of two things:
Whiteshaw boys and love.

But Miles will go to any length to prove that we belong together—and I’m not sure we’ll survive the fall out if he’s wrong.

One month after being publicly humiliated, Willow Reed’s life continues to fall apart as Miles Whiteshaw ensures she’s a social pariah.

Despite never having shared that he had a crush on Willow, Miles is determined to make her pay for choosing his brother. Yet as their walls come down, feelings shift and Miles becomes obsessed with freeing Willow of her demons.

I freaking love this series and these obsessed, possessive hockey players. Miles is a little different from his teammates, but in the best ways. While domineering and a touch unhinged, he is simultaneously a caretaker with a sweet streak.

The pace and action were on point with some dark twists that will have you on the edge of your seat. The surprise chapters from familiar characters were a fun addition. Likewise, the Easter eggs have me giddy for what’s still to come in the series.

Does the author just not notice she has written the same exact book 3 times in a row…? Like…? An MMC that torpedos the FMC’s reputation for seemingly no reason at all (seriously I’m all for a bully romance but these dudes seem to think making the FMC’s life extremely uncomfortable for no reason will make it easier to sneak into her room and bang her…?) All three women in a friend group have not only a hockey player stalker sneaking into their rooms, but ALSO a dangerous stalker who means them harm?? What are the chances?! If you’ve read one book in this series, you’ve read all of them. The MMC’s and FMC’s are all carbon copies of one another, the plots are carbon copies of another, to the point that my brain pictures the exact same apartment for all 3 FMC’s.

“The day I kneel at your feet is the day I die,” I manage to respond.
He shrugs, sitting straighter and focusing back on his easel. “We can simulate your death if you want, baby. But you’re not leaving this earth one second before me.”

Oh Miles, you psychopath, you. If you like your fictional men obsessed beyond reason and willing to do bad and depraved things to get the woman they want, look no further.
She thinks I’m going to leave her here after I take what I want from her. But I want everything.

I wasn't sure about Willow when I finished Twisted Obsession: A Dark Hockey Romance. I mean, the girl was dating Miles's older brother, who unbeknownst to her was only with her to win a bet. A part of me had hoped that her and Knox may end up together because I love the whole bet turned to feelings trope. But alas, Knox has not yet matured but I cannot wait to see this man fall hard. Miles was the understated secondary character who kind of flew under the radar, but boy did he take his center stage hard in his own book.

The book begins with the very public humiliation when Willow finally learned the truth about her boyfriend. She turns to a dark place after of numbing with partying and alcohol. Miles is determined to have her, even though she's sworn off relationships and love. He knows there will be no other man for her, come hell or high water. And the man is nothing if not good to his word. He puts Willow through some hard therapy to break through her walls with all the grace of a tractor. But dang if I didn't love his ways.

If you've read the rest of this series, you know it runs on the dark and gritty side. This was even more so than the previous two. Almost to the point of suspend your disbelief kind of dark, but I can't seem to care because it was super entertaining.

Though I did get a bit tired of the back and forth between these two, I still devoured this book in a sitting. I'm obsessed with this series. See what I did there? And the set up for the next book? OH MY GAWD. NEED.

NON CON with praise is a unique brand of dark romance that I subscribe to, wholeheartedly 👄

“It had to happen. We need this, okay? Just take my cock like a good girl.””

“Make those sweet noises for me. You sound so fucking perfect when you’re helpless like this. Just the way I want you.”

I’ve never ever never thought that hockey players could be this DARK!!! I’m talking about Rina-Kent-mmc level unhinged 😮‍💨

Miles 🏒
✔️ stalker psycho
✔️ golden retriever but also unhinged
✔️ playing that LONG LONG game
✔️ pierced 🍆 twice over!!

Willow 📣
✔️ brother’s ex
✔️ party girl on a breakup spiral
✔️ a bit self destructive

The spice is super spicing with a dash of extra spicy hot sauce on top 🌶️ I was actually impressed with all the kinks that were incorporated in this one! PROCEED AT YOUR OWN ROSK ⚠️ A healthy repertoire of somnophilia, breath play, choking, biting, spitting, knife play, cock warming, exhibitionism, praise, spanking, bondage/restraint and I probably forgot something else

The ONLY reason this book worked so well is because Miles was actually a giant teddy bear when it came to Willow. Always so happy to show her off! Yes, he was insane in his actions when he locked her wet in the freezer but….but…he meant well. No actually that was unhinged 💀

forbidden love
man obsessed
possessive & jealous mmc
body betrayal
touch-her-and-die LITERALLY!
dub/non con encounters

Psychotic but good!

The following ratings are out of 5:
Romance: 🖤💙❤️💖
Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📕📗📘📔📙
World building: 🌏🌍🌎🌍
Character development: 😄🙂🥰☺️
Narrator(s): 🎙🎙🎙🎙🎙
Narration type: Dual Narration

The Hero: Miles Whiteshaw - he has had feelings for Willow Reed since they met, but for the past year, his brother Knox has been dating her. Well, it wasn’t exactly dating. Knox made a bet with his friend Greyson, and he has been going all out to win the bet ever since. He thought it would be easy to get Willow to fall in love with him, but Miles knows that even though Willow has known she loved Knox for over six months, she hasn’t yet said it aloud till now.

The heroine: Willow Reed - she doesn’t say ‘I love you’ to anyone, that is why it has taken her so long to say it to Knox but the moment she does, he shatters her heart by revealing that the past year has been just a bet and nothing more. He is glad it is finally over, so he doesn’t have to pretend to be in a relationship with her anymore. She has cried over him so many times in the past, the way he looks at other girls when they are together, it took her so long to finally admit her feelings only to be humiliated in front of all their friends. She can’t believe that Miles didn’t tell her about the bet, she thought they were friends. She is done with the Whiteshaw brothers for good.

The Story: it’s been a month since Knox broke Wiillow’s heart and though she cried for a good week, it was more about the humiliation than about Knox himself. Since then, she has been going out to bars, dancing and seeing how many men will buy her drinks. Now that she is back at Crown Point University, she goes to a club that recently opened. She ends up in a precarious situation and Miles is there to help her out, though he uses it as a way to tie her to him in a way that she never could have predicted.

I swear the guys on the CPU hockey team get worse and worse as this series goes on. So far, they have done potentially illegal things to their women while chasing them, though the line is thin there since the women have been into the kink as much as the guys. But now Miles has taken that way further in his pursuit of Willow. I don’t really like the way he pursues her; in that he does his best to alienate her from most of her friends and any potential suitors. It reeks of his wanting to control her. Though it did hold my interest and these kinds of things are always a bit hotter in a book than in real life where it would definitely be something you would want to run from. I was married to a guy like that, and it wasn’t fun and getting away was not easy. Though I did like how miles remembers of how he first fell for Willow and fell further when his brother started dating her.

One thing I thought about this book and all the books so far in this series was that there were way too many intimate scenes. I like the slightly deviant sex scenes, but in all three books so far there were just too many. It seemed like every other chapter they were doing it and a lot of the time was in public places despite the fact that they were basically living together. I mean against a wall now and then, in a shower, and the like is fine, but I don’t see the need to do it in closets, bathrooms, ice arena’s and other public places. I know some people get off on that, but these guys seem to have all the kinks, not just the one. I think their other kinks are enough. I just don’t get the fear of getting caught in public as being an aphrodisiac.

This audiobook was told in dual points of view via dual narration and was narrated by Teddy Hamilton and Alyssa Avery. Teddy Hamilton, as always, is a terrific narrator. I love his voice and he is great at showing emotion through his voice and doing different voices for different characters. Alyssa Avery is good as well. She has a bit more of an alto voice for Willow and she goes higher for other characters. Though she isn’t annoying in the higher voice like some narrators.

Copy paste, rinse repeat… I’ll say it louder for the people in the back

COPY PASTE, RINSE REPEAT

DNF 50%

This book had so much potential after being so disappointed with devious obsession being a carbon copy of brutal obsession I wanted to give this a fair go but I literally cannot deal!!!!!!! S. Massery obviously only knows how to write one plot line because all three books are exactly the same.

Spoilers below ⬇️

Commons themes:

The tracking device on the phone
Then the tracking device in the neck
The break in at the house causing her to go and live at the hockey house (this is so fucking boring! Come on!)
The scream mask
The wanting to wear another players jersey

Not to mention the FMC has a out of control drinking problem.

This was such a disappointment

Gahhhh!!! I speak the absolute truth when I say that S. Massery can do no wrong!!!! Gahh!! Miles Whiteshaw is perfection!!!! I absolutely adore him and his possessive and (dare I say sociopathic?) obsession with Willow. He knew she was his and would stop at nothing until she knew it too! This book was phenomenal!!

Gah!! What is it about this hockey series and this author's work that has me in such a chokehold? Oh I know: The Men! Massery can write the most perfect hero aka borderline psychopath and make it ok. I absolutely adored this story. The emotions, chemistry and obsession. This was pure kindle crack and another Massery winner! 5 stars! ~Ratula ❤️

"Your little game with my brother is over, got it? Your game with me is only just beginning."

~4.75 stars~

A bet.
A goddamn bet.
I trusted him. I told him I loved him. And he embarassed me at a party.
I am done. I am not falling in love anymore... I am not loveable.
Miles doesn't believe me and he will show me in all of his twisted ways how much better he is than his brother...
But can I trust him?

I wanna kill him.
I wanna punch my brother in the face. The girl I loved since Freshman year and he crushed her.
But luckily I am here to pick up the pieces.
I'm not gonna glue her back together... No...
I'm gonna use those pieces and rebuild something new.
Because now that I have her... I am never letting her go.

"She's in pieces now and I'm not going to glue her back together. I'm not going to paint a pretty picture for her to lie in instead of reality.

I'm going to forge her into something new. Something stronger.

How far can I push her?"

Miles MF Whiteshaw is the definition of this new thing I call "Morally Grey Golden Retriever boyfriend" and I have ZERO complaints!! Thank you S. Massery for this book!
Miles will do literally anything to protect Willow. Especially from herself.
First of all, why is it that the goalies are the hottest? I think it's the protection aspect... Someone needs to do a research paper please and send it to me!!

And Willow. I felt so bad for her all the time. I just wanted to give her a big hug and open her MF eyes!! Maybe because she's a singer and I connected to that musical background and people told her "Why does she have to sing so much?" and that hit me so hard. Like my sweet girl.

Thankfully Miles is right there to make sure he rebuilds her into something new. Even if he breaks her along the way.

"So this is how it's going to go. I'm going to f*** you and then I'm going to make sure you know I'm not leaving. No matter how much you might want me to do so. And I'm going to make sure you know that no other man is allowed to touch you."

P.S. Knox is an asshole. I want to read his book just to see him grovel on his knees thank you very much (and yet somehow I feel like his is going to be a good one)

P.P.S. Jacob's book cannot come any sooner!!! OMG that sneak peek tho!!!

Tropes:
- Brother's ex-girlfriend
- Stalker vibes
- Major Protective MMC
- Dark Hockey Romance
- Goalie romance
- Toys
- "Touch her and I'll kill you" (literally...)

I think I’m just not meant for Massery’s books. I’m not going to leave a star review because maybe it’s just a me thing. This book isn’t written badly by any means, I just have the preference of having a stronger FMC when you have such a dominating MC. Honestly, Miles made me nauseous. I got so aggravated I had to stop reading and almost DNF’d several times.

My expectations were high for Miles and Willow, but I just didn’t understand Miles logic at all. He didn’t have the same reasons Grey and Steele did. They bullied because of extenuating circumstances and then fell in love through that. Miles bullies because he’s in love? And it makes you not believe in the love that much more. It feels TOO much like control and toxicity than the other books which isn’t my thing. Like, why didn’t he just tell her about the bet?…he let it carry on for a whole year. That’s not love. Then he tries to “piece her together” when she’s drowning her sorrows in booze and obviously thinks the best thing is to go about it by bullying……..but then gets upset when she gets hurt?….but it’s his fault?….There are NO repercussions or accountability on Miles part. Everything he does is forgotten and swept under the rug.

He 100% rapes her and then almost kills her by leaving her in a freezer with wet hair after dunking her head under water multiple times. I don’t mind a little water action (Looking at you, Does it Hurt), but again, there was a valid reason for that bullying. He’s smart enough to manipulate her how he does, but not smart enough to realize what will happen when he puts her in a freezer wet?………I don’t get it. Massery said at the end of the book he did everything out of “love”. So…he started rumors about her, got her kicked off the dance team, punished her countless times even for things that were an accident, almost killed her, got her beat up by another girl, and raped her out of love? Unfortunately I just didn’t feel it from Miles or Willow.

The spice was probably the best part of this book if you can get past the rape, and the nicest thing he did for Willow was probably killing the guy in the beginning. Everyone saying he “cares” and is “sweet” has me confused. I think we are mixing up those words with controlling 😅.

While it does take Willow a while to give into him, she does nothing to retaliate but drink. For me, strength has to be met with strength when it comes to bully tropes. She does absolutely nothing to make him pay for his sins, and he doesn’t do a single thing to make up for it. I was looking forward to jacobs book but I honestly can’t do it if it’ll just be another weak FMC and repetitive toxic bullying hero.

I wish I could give this 0 stars bro. The first two books of this series were SO good. And I was going into this blind so excited for miles and willow. So let’s get into it.

First the murder scene was so forced and very pick me. I wish he would’ve just killed him to defend her and kept it lit. My expectations were that Knox was a shitty ass boyfriend and miles would come in and just show out. I WAS WRONG.

He’s literally weird as fuck. I love dark romance and morally grey characters but chapter 15 was an unnecessary ass SA scene. I’m sorry but that is rape and idc how we try to spin it and romanticize it, it’s just not okay. It’s honestly pathetic and miles is just trash lol

This doesn’t give off touch her and I’ll kill you vibes. This is I’m a dumb little bitch who needs to manipulate a weak girl to control and get her. Nice miles lol willow is hella heart broken over Knox let me damn near force her to be with me. Other mmcs do it but the way he went about shit was weak.

She’s crying and saying no. You have to tie her up while she’s still drunk. You took off her clothes when she was blacked out. All SA. You’re trash af. She’s crying and saying no hella times yet you force her lmao coercion is rape. Having to trick someone and pushing them is rape. She dead ass broke his nose to get away from him lol she’s hella heart broken and confused and it makes me sad to see her even have to deal with that because sadly that’s how a lot of men prey on weak women. 0 out of 5 stars. I’m hoping that in the series this would be the only trash book. It happens.

To the author PLEASE make the next book better. The first two were so damn good. I’m so sad and disappointed in this one for real.

Toxic is okay. It’s fiction. Unfortunately we all love the drama and unhinged mmcs. But we love them obsessed and protective. We love them IN LOVE. Miles was NOT it. Just ew lol he sucks and this book sucked. I hope the next ones better.

This book is completely ridiculous, but undoubtably entertaining. Miles is a literal psychopath and is the most unhinged out of all the boys so far. I don’t even like him, at all lol.

If you go into this book expecting some great romance you will probably be disappointed, considering it’s pretty much just him abusing her until she is submissive to him. (Example, At one point, he dumps her head in water and throws her in a freezer.) ahhh romance.

Anyways, it’s like a train wreck that You can’t look away from so if you’re going into it just for pure entertainment you probably will like it, but you should seriously look up the triggers or you’ll be extremely uncomfortable.

Sn: i really really want her to write an mm installment . Let these sociopaths(preferably knox) meet their match👀

Story: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Trope: unrequited love
Angst: 😱😱😱😱
Smexy: 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

Fantastic rollercoaster of a ride! A really different take on the unrequited love trope and I was totally here for it. Honestly, I usually hate that trope, feeling like whomever has been pining is like a chump. That was NOT the case with Miles. Would I have liked him to have made his move earlier? Yes, but it still worked in the context of the story. The storyline was fantastic! Super fast paced with action and suspense. And Good Lordy! The smexy times in this book nearly lit my kindle on fire, lol. Loved seeing all the MCs from previous books, but Miles and Willow were awesome both individually and together. Miles was really just so supportive and did whatever he had to do for his girl. Got great breadcrumbs for future stories, but super excited for Jacob and Melody in Twisted Obsession next!

Oh I have a lot to say about this book, but be warned that there’s spoilers ahead❌⁉️‼️‼️‼️❗️If you haven’t read the book and want to please DO NOT READ MY REVIEW IT WILL GIVE A LOT AWAY!!!!!’

Okay, I want to start off by saying I have read all the books following up to this one, and I also enjoy dark romance. I've read the author's warnings, so I have to put that out there because I do enjoy dark twisted shit. 😍 Now that I have said all that, the books leading up to this were twisted but good, however this one??? NO! Why you might ask??😠

If you’ve read the book then you know Miles kills a guy who’s potentially going to rape Willow, but wtf does Miles do that’s not rape??? I mean all the dark twisted books I’ve read the women always agree to the sexual acts. 😡 Miles literally fucks Willow even though she tells him NO!!! and what does he say “this is an initiation” like wtf??? she’s getting herself in a gang??!! He consistently fucks her when she’s crying and saying no to him?? How the fuck is Miles different than the previous dude?? Why because Miles didn’t drug her? I mean what a fuckin hypocrite!!! 😠

The storyline was good, being in love with brother’s ex but the nonconsensual sex? I hated. I don’t even know if I want to continue the next book. One thing is having ruff bondage sex, games, dark twisted foreplay, but when a women says NO!!! they should fuckin listen. 😡🤬😤🤬😠

This is just…not it.
The things he does to her is just uncalled for
Tracker in her phone and then eventually in her neck? What is wrong with him?
He even says he wants to isolate her from everybody in her life so she can only have him and depend on him because apparently he’ll never leave her
That is classic ABUSIVE behavior wtf
Another thing too- she explicitly tells him “no” when he tries to do sexual stuff to her, and tries to push him away and hit him to get away and even cries on multiple occasions, and he just like “yeah, no I don’t care, I’m going to do it anyways”
I’m sick of authors writing rape on a page and calling it romance

i thought i would’ve liked this book more… the blurb, the reviews had everything i liked in a book but once i read it, it all fell flat.

first off i really didn’t like how the heroine dated the H’s brother for a year (as a bet to make the heroine fall in love with the brother). the H’s brother is a piece of shit but i hated how WEAKKKKK the Hero was to even let this happen for so long. i like my Hero’s STRONG but gosh he felt like such a pushover to his brother. like omg your brother is literally hooking up with who you claim to be the “love of your life” but you don’t think to even do anything about it??? even though you knew ur brothers plan that it was a bet. get outta here 👋

after the humiliating bet, the heroine swears off men but of course the Hero comes rushing to her and forces her into a relationship with him with blackmail, threats, non-con, dub-con, ya know the works. i would’ve liked this book so much better if the H’s brother plot line wasn’t included because i do love a good bully/psychotic man🤭✨

safety: no owd, heroine dated H’s brother for a year, non-con/dub-con, blackmail, threats, it was implied that the H was celibate as he waited for his brother to be finished dating the love of his life 🥲

“And when you do realize that you’re madly in love with me, you’re going to know in your bones that I won’t leave you. I haven’t left you, and I won’t ever. It’s you and me until the end of time.”

5/5 4/5 🌶️

As indicated by the book titles, one of the main tropes of this series is "obsession". The boys are obsessed with their girls and me, I am also obsessed with their girls…and them…and the entire series! So far all the books were magnificent hits. I dove in and I gulped them like nothing else.

Miles seemed so gentle and chill in the previous books, but obviously he deceived me. Which was to be expected as these are dark hockey & bully romances but still I didn't anticipate his level of madness! 10% into the book and my jaw had officially hit the floor, I was trying to lift it with a crane and it wouldn't budge.

Miles was obsessed with all capital letters and his moral compass probably broken since birth -a trait he shares with his brother!-. Miles was indeed more gentle than the two previous mmcs, because the book was less of a bully trope and more of a "force her to love me", but there was nothing mellow about him. He did some very wild things. No even questionable. Just straight up insanity. He was wild! And jealous, possessive. He conquered every cell of my mind! I loved being in his head.

I don't know what magic S. Massery does with her mmcs, they are bullies, unredeemable a*holes and I am felar for them. I don't know if I prefer Miles or Steele, they are in a tie but of course they can't overthrow Greyson. Love them all though!

I wasn't sure about Willow, mostly because of her relationship with Knox aka Mile's brother. Knox was a raging a*hole two books ago and I knew this was coming but Willow had all the signs that this wasn't working. It was only missing a flashing sign pointing it but Willow decided to be oblivious. It was that decision that made me skeptical. However she found a way in my heart and I began enjoyig her povs, caring for her. I liked her journey, her agony and passion and I was actually sad to leave her.

The hidden star of the book of course is Knox. That beautiful moron has officially set his book as my most anticipated of the remaining series. I can't wait to see him fall in love and be obsessed.

I give bonus points to this book because I got to read so much about my babies Violet and Greyson and every time I read about them it's like *fireworks* love them so much!

Did I like it? Loveeed it!
Would I reread it? Yeap.

Talk about a fucking rollercoaster. SECRET OBSESSION will take readers on a journey that feels unfamiliar for S Massery's male leads but also festers in the back on your mind like an itch you cannot scratch until you reach the end.

So what happens when you see the girl first but your brother swoops in and secures her first? Okay, but what if he absolutely shatters her heart because he made a bet she’d fall in love with him? What do you do now that she’s broken and won’t accept any sort of love… let’s ask Miles shall we?

Miles Whiteshaw exceeded all of my expectations. He was such a complex character who defied Sara’s typical MMC mold. Unlike the intense and deranged hockey gods of the previous books, Miles reveals himself to be a domineering control freak with a surprising kind heart. His moments of sweetness, which occur more frequently than anticipated, overshadow his much darker tendencies. As I went through Miles' words and actions, I found myself torn between hating him and falling head over heels in love with him. There are moments that may challenge readers, particularly those who share a need for control themselves, as they witness Willow's internal struggle to let go and trust.

The chemistry between Miles and Willow is electric, making the book immensely enjoyable. Starting off as friends, their connection is strained when Willow's heart is shattered by Miles' brother. The banter between them is perfection, though occasionally dark and twisty, and Miles' unwavering acceptance of Willow, faults and all, is honestly heart-melting. Beyond the physical aspect of their relationship, it becomes evident that genuine care exists between these characters. Miles wants to free Willow from the demons that hold her back, while Willow wants to shield Miles from her own issues so he can move forward with his life, and so she can escape the Whiteshaw boys with minimal damage. Amidst the shocking moments that characterize this dark romance, and for me there were a lot, it's critical to remember that, at its core, this is a story of love and the complexities of human emotions. The emotions and affection, particularly from Miles, leap off the page, intertwining with Willow's anxieties and pain. There exists a delicate power balance, showcased as acts of protection and love.

Navigating to the more challenging aspects of the book, it's important to acknowledge that SECRET OBSESSION features acts that are non-consensual/dubiously consensual. PLEASE always read the trigger warnings when starting any dark romance. However Massery handles these scenes with care. Also these scenes serve a significant purpose in establishing the characters' connection. While it may not be immediately clear to the reader, and still invasive and violating, Willow's perspective on the matter provides a different lens to view these scenes.

I loved all the surprise POV’s in this book, not only did we get our two mains but we had some familiar characters back. It was nice to get into their heads and see where they are now!

SECRET OBSESSION stands as the darkest installment yet in the series, given its consistent exploration of dubious and non-consensual encounters in my opinion. Miles, being a goalie, embodies a slightly deranged personality, I mean who willingly puts themselves in harm's way for a game?? If readers are willing to embrace a story that delves into the dynamics of a dominant man in complete love with a sad woman who must learn to submit, SECRET OBSESSION is the book to read.

HOLY HOT TAMALE! Of course I loved this one.. are we surprised? Not at all. I am obsessed with the Hockey Gods series and I can't wait for the next one.

I also want to add that the audiobooks for this entire series are GOLD!

I LOVED MILES so much. I don't think he beat Steele for me, but he's right up there with him!

If you enjoy dark romance as well as hockey romance, I think you'll definitely love this series.

I can’t get enough of this series! I’m not a huge dark romance girly. Very rarely do I read them, but this author knows what she’s doing… add in the fact that they’re also hockey romances & I eat these books up every single time 👏🏼

This is the third book in the Hockey Gods series, which is about Miles & Willow. Miles is the team goalie & Knox’s little brother. Willow is Violet’s best friend & Knox’s ex-girlfriend. The book starts out by us finding out that Knox dumped Willow & in the most humiliating way possible. But, this is good news for Miles because he’s always had a thing for Willow & knows that now is his chance to swoop in.

After her breakup with Knox, Willow isn’t looking for a relationship or looking to fall in love ever again. So as Miles tries his best to be close to her, Willow just keeps pushing him away. That is until something happens to her apartment one night & she ends up having to stay with Miles for a while. Suddenly he’s everywhere & is convinced that sooner or later Willow will realize that she actually does love him.

Miles. MF. Whiteshaw. 😍🥵 I loved him so so much. I wasn’t sure about him at first & I didn’t think anyone was going to top Greyson for me, but Miles completely won me over. His love for Willow never wavered, not even once. He knew what he wanted & was determined to prove to Willow that she was capable of love & that he was deserving of her love. I thought it was really beautiful.

Highly recommend this book, but definitely check trigger warnings before diving in!

4.5 stars!

I love this series. LOVE IT.

Psychotic alpha male? ✔
Delicious and kinky steam, steam and steam? ✔
Captivating romance? ✔
Action packed plot? ✔

Was Miles everything I love in my book boyfriends? You bet.
Was Willow a hot mess express? Absolutely.
Did the two go together perfectly? YES!

“You will,” he replies. “You don’t have a choice. There’s never been a choice with us, wild girl. You’ll fall in love with me, and it’s going to be a hundred times better than any love you held for Knox. Because I deserve you and you deserve me.” His gaze intensifies. “And when you do realize that you’re madly in love with me, you’re going to know in your bones that I won’t leave you. I haven’t left you, and I won’t ever. It’s you and me until the end of time.”

Can't wait for the next!

There are books that make me question myself a bit before booking an appointment with my therapist. This is one of those books.

Under no circumstance would I ever entertain a guy like Miles in real life - but that’s the nice thing about books, right? We can live out different fantasies that we’d never, ever touch and would likely run to a police station to take out restraining orders to avoid. 💀

I think the story telling was slightly disjointed too. At first the author made it sound like Miles had very little to do with Willow prior to his predilection post-Knox with her. This was reinforced a couple of times before suddenly there’s history, and quite a bit of it too! Had that been factored in earlier, I think it would’ve helped. I’d still be disgusted while being alarmingly into the spicy scenes but still.

Overall - an okay read with a pretty disturbing plot, and a horrible really messed up MMC that’s somehow also endearing.

This is one of my new favorite series.
Unhinged hockey boys
Girls that eventually grow a backbone
Twisty plots

Brothers ex:
Miles, sweet little miles, one ups the other boys in chapter 2, proving he isn’t so sweet or little. And he may be my favorite so far.

Willow felt like a real person, emotion wise.

Sure hope Knox gets his world rocked in his book.

“I’m going home.”
“I’ll drive you.”
“No—”
“Don’t do that.”
“Don’t say no to you?”
“Exactly.”

These Crown Point U boys are just something else and definitely in a good way.

I don't know what it was but a little something nagging in the back of my brain caused me to be a bit more hesitant about this book than Brutal Obsession and Devious Obsession. Might also be Willow since she did not really awaken any emotions in me based on the previous books (for better or for worse). Also, I was happy to notice that Miles was, luckily, much more devious than I suspected because he gave out some serious good boy-vibes in the previous books (which were also visible in this book as well).

I don’t know which way is up anymore. Do I want this? No. Do I want to stop it? No again. That thought breaks me.

Usually, I dislike insecure FMC's that ruin the relationships due to their insecurity. Unfortunately, Willow did try to do that as well, though she had a good reason what with the bet between Knox and Greyson (made in Brutal Obsession) that Knox was refusing to let go of and used to hurt Willow. Still, I did not like Willow's insecurity or how much she let it affect her relationship with Miles, no matter how understandable it was.

I really enjoy S. Massery's books because on top of character development, there is always an underlying plot going on that ensures the books keep the readers intrigued. Secret Obsession was no exception. I would never have guessed some of the plot twists that were revealed towards the end, though a small part of it was heavily foreshadowed and easily foreseaable. My guess is, this plot twist was also a backstory to a subplot taking place in Knox's book (which I hope is coming out after Jacob's book!).

My heart skips, then picks up a beat that is quickly careening out of control. He’s hurt me. He almost killed me. And he’s killed for me.

I loved the cross references to the games between Bexley U and Crown Point U both in this book and S. J. Sylvis' Weak Side! There were also a few other mentions of Bexley U or its students. I just love when authors collaborate like this 🤩 After all, we are stronger together when we lift each other up instead of trying to bring each other down.

And I really need to read the Wicked Trilogy to read more of Caleb Asher ✨

Well, I knew I was obsessed with her. It should be fucking obvious that I’m in love with her, too.

I don't know if it's me being too used to dark romance and twisted possessive MMC's or if this book was a bit tamer than Brutal Obsession or Devious Obsession but I really hope Twisted obsession will, indeed, be extremely twisted. That is not to say that Miles did not do some extremely shady and twisted things because everyone should definitely read the TW's before reading this book (unless you're like me and think that the more TW's and the worse they are the better 🙃).

The foreshadowing towards the end of Secret Obsession that revealed the couple the next book is about was so good. Same as with Devious Obsession having a chapter from Miles' POV at the end, I love how the transitioning to the next book already begins in the previous one. I cannot wait to read Twisted Obsession! This fall cannot come fast enough.

So far, this is the only series I've read from S. Massery but I really need to start prowling through the rest of her works because if the other books are anything like this series, I know I'm gonna really like them!

I received an ARC of Secret Obsession in exchange for an honest review

REREAD

🎧 audiobook

This was my first audiobook but definitely will not be the last!

I am not sure how I felt the narrators voices for the other gender. I think that was what bothered me the most. Other than that, I really liked the narrators and their voices.

I am a bit tempted to change my rating to 5 ⭐️ after listening to the audiobook but there were still small things that bothered me as when reading rhe physical book as well. Although, I have to say I definitely liked Willow better after the reread!

4 freaking stars because Miles was quite literally giving boy obsessed! The smut was mind blowing and I absolutely adored Miles. I never thought a hockey romance could have dark elements to it, but here we fucking are. The only reason I cut a star was because the book was unnecessarily long and felt dragged out to me. Also there wasn't any real plot like??? Like the author just decided to throw in a murder and a stalker more than halfway through. There were so many questions that were left unanswered towards the end that had me feeling dissatisfied. Regardless, it was a pretty good read overall and I would recommend it. As I mentioned before, Knox is a grade A asshole and he can choke. BUT I also wanna see him get his redemption arc and to meet the woman that will bring him to his knees hehehehhe. Also, I will def not be reading the previous two books in this series after getting glimpses of the couples in this book because 1. Apparently, Greyson is a limp dicked pussy who simply cannot take ownership for his shitty actions. 2. I absolutely do not want to read about Steele who got a bj from his best friend's (Greyson's) gf (Violet) - even if it was before he got tg with Aspen - get his own story like NO...it's giving Kai from the Devil's Night series ifykyk (hence why I'm staying away from those books lol). With that being said, I will be continuing with this series and I really look forward to reading Jacob's book next. It seems pretty intriguing to me :)
