He wanted her as his mistress but as the mother of his child? Tara was millionaire Australian hotel magnate Max Richmond's mistress. She loved Max for himself, not for the gifts he gave her, their glamorous life, or even their intense lovemaking. But now, she was expecting his baby, the question was, should she stay or should she go? Tara was convinced there was no place for a pregnant mistress in Max's life, or was there?
Maureen Mary was born on 1945 at Port Macquarie, a popular seaside town on the Mid-North Coast of New South Wales, Australia, and is the youngest of four children. Her sister was the novelist Wendy Brennan (Emma Darcy). Her father was a country school teacher and brilliant sportsman. Her mother was a talented dressmaker. When Miranda was ten, her father was transferred to Gosford, another coastal town in the countryside, much closer to Sydney. After leaving her convent school, she briefly studied the cello before moving to Sydney, where she embraced the emerging world of computers. Her career as a programmer ended after she married, had three daughters and bought a small acreage in a semi-rural community. Following this, she attempted greyhound training, as well as horse and goat breeding, but was left dissatisfied.
Miranda yearned to find a creative career from which she could earn money. When her sister suggested writing romances, it seemed like a good idea. She could do it at home, and it might even be fun! It took a decade of trial and error before her first romance, After the Affair, was accepted and published. At that time, Miranda, her husband Tony, and her three daughters had moved back to the Central Coast, where they could enjoy the sun and the surf lifestyle once again. Not long into her writing career, Miranda committed herself to writing a six-book series entitled, The Hearts of Fire, with a deadline of just nine short months. Bravely, her husband left his executive position to stay home and support Miranda’s writing career. He learned to cook and to clean, two invaluable household skills. Numerous successful stories followed, each embodying Miranda’s trademark style: pacy and sexy rhythms; passionate, real-life characters; and enduring, memorable story lines. She has one credo when writing romances: Don’t bore the reader! Millions of fans world-wide agree she never does.
Miranda was the sister of the late author, Emma Darcy.
This is not really half bad. Hero isn't really a douche and he never wanted to treat the heroine as a mistress (I don't even know what on earth that is)! He is actually serious about the girl and even though he's a little commitment phobic he still sees a future with the heroine. And he treats her with the respect a girlfriend deserves. What was missing was communication. I really did enjoy the book. Then again I'm a little biased about Miranda lee and I'm a sucker for sweet cliched romance.
A bit of a fantasy that some manslut who used a young woman strictly for sex for a whole year then becomes more caring and appreciative and wants to marry her but that's what we read these for, eh? The fantasy.
She was annoying. She calls herself a blonde-bimbo mistress and other names. He tells her he loves her, that she is his girlfriend, that he is faithful to her.
But she keeps going on about the mistress stuff, both to him and in her mind.
It was annoying because she slept with him out of free will. He wasn’t threatening her to get her to sleep with him, he wasn’t blackmailing her and she lived with her mother, so she had another place to stay.
But she kept nagging and nagging that she’s just a mistress, no matter how often he told her how much he loves her. Poor rich man deserves better than this h.
Miranda Lee is one of the writers who alwas has blonde h’s. The typical long-legged blonde h. 🙄 I would like more variety in HP’s in how a h looks. Not always the standard long, blonde h.
Anyway, what was different in a Miranda Lee HP this time, was that this h was a virgin. That’s the only thing I liked about her.
I really liked the book,Max was a good n well developed character,he knows what he wants and takes decisions accordingly but Tara irritated me ,her constant taunting retorts and way she constantly degrades herself by mistress words sex slave and what not,Max is one who keeps telling her she is not his mistress he loves her and she is her girlfriend then why does she keeps degrading her love by such comments
she is one confused woman i tell you first herself asking about Max's past infact insisting and then taunting n give disdain looks to Max if you can''t handle it then why ask let it be in the past, first time i came across a book where hero handles the unwanted pregnancy nicely and heroins goes demented hehe
I know Tara's mistrust and way she degrades herself and her love all is coloured by what her mother keeps telling her and calling her rich man's mistress and play thing and her mother's fears are also understandable cause Max never takes her to his house to meet his parents or overseas holidays or even discusses the business but they do have pillow talks about their families and past tragedies
Liked Max and other secondary characters but Tara irritated me somewhat but then the reader can actually understand her fears-insecurities
This book read more like 1974 than this century. The heroine has been dating the titular magnate for a year. She's 24 and of course she was a virgin! He gives hr presents and professes his love for he, but her mum keeps harping on hoe he's toting with her and isn't really serious. She's just a mistress(there's that word!) then she's pregnant! That's pretty much it. She's an insecure twit with seriously meddlesome relatives and he's an oblivious man. The end.
Have to say I found this book as dull as dishwater. I'm serious, I was yawning. It had no real emotional excitement. It was all wham bam thank you ma'am. I expected more romance and love in the book and yet when the hero said he loved the heroine, I felt absolutely nothing. It just felt like a very poorly written book to me unfortunately!
good one! this was a light and straight kinda read. max was obviously besotted but he did not know how to handle a young and inexperienced girl like tara. add to dat, she was gorgeous and stunning and he was afraid of losing her. i liked dat things happened spontaneously and they did not rush into anything.
I really could not stand the heroine. She wants the H to lover her; she doesn't want to just be a mistress. She ends up pregnant and goes off the rails.
Runaway h. He runs after her but nothing is good enough for her until he eats crow.
Shy and sweet Tara decides to request more commitment from her domineering, jet-setting boyfriend, Max, but only after a series of events cause her to question their one-year relationship. The catalyst is her accidental pregnancy. Suddenly, Max's level of commitment is now in question even though Tara has been happy overall.
I thought the conflicts in this romance were relatable yet easily solvable. Consequently, I felt the angst and tension levels were on the low side. The question wasn't so much if Max loved Tara but how much did he, with the resolution hinging on solid communication. Good sex or tender feelings alone simply weren't enough, although Tara and Max definitely shared both. Happily, Max proved he could give Tara more of what she needed from him.
A light romance dealing with realistic issues any woman in a less-than-committed relationship can relate to.
Tara was millionaire Australian hotel magnate Max Richmond's mistress. She loved Max for himself, not for the gifts he gave her, their glamorous life, or even their intense lovemaking. I definitely love ML heroines for their level of bitchiness. Thank god for that, especially in the usual depressing and sad HP landscape. The heroine has been the hero's lover for some time, but actually he never told her she was only his mistress, never kept her hidden, but at the same time he never made plans for their future. He's a very busy high profile billionaire, so he has not so much time to dedicate to her, but honestly, he never treated her with anything but respect and consideration. The heroine though, as most women, needs words of commitment and when she finds out she's pregnant she doesn't even think to tell him, thinking he would be angry, and dumps him without any explanation. The poor hero, who never saw it coming, is shattered and starts looking for her. The heroine has taken some time to think and meditate about what she wants to do and when he eventually finds her, she's not ready to take him back. He has some groveling to do because, ok, he might not have been cruel or mean but he wasn't such a considerate boyfriend either. In the end all is well and I liked it. I liked that the heroine had great self respect and didn't make any allowance to the hero. She wanted to be loved and treated as a queen and she made him grovel. After all the doormat heroine who beg for crumbles of attention this one was refreshing. The hero was only a bit slow on the uptake, but not a bad one.
Voto 6.
I liked this lovely romance. The H/h have been in a relationship for the last 12 months. They have already admitted their love, (which is different in itself from a lots of romances) but there are lots of reasons why they each think the other is not telling the truth, which is the basis of this story. A nice read. 3.5 stars.
A well written HQN. More about learning to embrace love and to be partners. Very sweet, no OW/OM drama, no overbearing or doormat characters. A sweet romance about growing yourself and love to meet the needs of your partner.
The Magnate’s Mistress is the 49th stand-alone romance by Australian author Miranda Lee and is part of the Mistress to a Millionaire series. Tara Bond has been seeing hotel magnate Max Richmond for a year, but their relationship consists mostly of wining, dining and bed during his fleeting visits between jetting around the world on business. Max professes to love her, but her mother Joyce and sister Jen have made comments that make Tara think about what she wants from the relationship: will Max ever want her for more than just a mistress? Then Tara finds she’s pregnant, but she’s pretty sure Max isn’t ready for marriage and children. While Tara’s character is nicely developed, Max is rather two-dimensional and some of the detailing of his backstory is little short of clumsy. An Ok read, but not Miranda Lee’s best.
Tara the main character irritated and ruined the book for me. Her self esteem and doubts ruined the book because Max was a really good character and dealt with Tara in a kind and loving manner. He is not perfect but what person is. This book could have been a LOT better if Tara had dealt with her issues in a mature way. Her family needed to stop interfering, yes they want the best for her but when a mother and sister cause you to feel terrible about yourself and brings you further down, you need to get away from them.
An ok book with a whiny and childish main character.
Meh, 2.5 stars. This one started out ok, with the promise of some good conflict, but then it got pretty boring once the pregnancy was discovered -- I pretty much skimmed the rest. There just wasn't any tension, it was just the hero chasing the childish heroine around begging her to believe he loves her and wants to marry her for the right reasons. Not very interesting.
