Of course, I cried for the last few chapters, it is difficult to remain detached with this amazing crew cast and for that reason only, I am giving this 3 instead of 2 stars. Damn those onion-cutting ninjas.
One thing is for sure if there would graphical novels would be released, I would be reading those asap. I am already waiting for Shadow and Bone #2 series on Netflix.

Mothers are not always good just because they're mothers, and fathers are not always good just because they're fathers. Wivers are not always faithful, husbands are not always honest, daughters cannot be perfect, and sisters cannot be saviors. The sooner we accept those variables and forgive people for them, the sooner we heal.

Their even more so, since it was so unlikely - the bounty hunter from Hell and the fallen angel turned immortal assassin. That wasn't anyone's idea of a love story, but it was theirs.
While I am not an avid Urban Fantasy reader, this was a surprisingly decent read and a good start to the series. While it was quite easy to read, I admit that I skimmed a little bit because it got too wordy at times. I am amazed when the author finds so many different ways to convey the same thing, but as a reader, I get frustrated. I am like, you want to make a point, I get it, just move on with the story!!
I also admit, the fallen angel is not my favorite trope but maybe after watching the superhit Netflix series Lucifer, I might have built a bit more tolerance for the idea. who knows?
I like when each book in the series follows the story of different couples, which makes it easy to drop it if it starts getting annoying. Right now, I feel like giving chance to this series so, on to the next one...

Cover: It’s alright but initially, it got my attention. I rather prefer this than chest showing monkeys out there.
Trigger: Oh honey, where do I start?
OK, no visible triggers but some unsettling stuff. Mafia-related.
Review:
I don’t do romance. Okay, that might be an overstatement, but I definitely don’t do contemporary romance. But every once in a while, I turn to them as a palate cleanser and feel hugely disappointed in them and mostly stop reading after 10-15% of the book. What I trying to say is, don’t take this review too seriously, cause I’m not the best reviewer for that.
Coming back to the book and story, I thought I liked the beginning of the book and hence I got the strength to actually keep reading and finish it.
I work in male dominant industry (aren’t all industries are male dominant already) so I know what it is to be around powerful men. Men who don’t take your opinion too seriously cause you have a vagina (okay, that might be too harsh) but what I am trying to say is, they are smart, funny and intelligent and you feel attracted toward them, no matter. *Disclaimer: No thank you, I am happily married. Sometimes they behave like a bunch of assholes and completely get away with it cause they are cunning and use their intelligence to make you think it was you who was stupid. That what was happen to Olivia. Enrico gets away with a lot of stuff in my opinion where Olivia certainly could have made him sweat a bit.
Mafia romance is something which makes me uncomfortable but somehow T.L. Swan made it work. To me, THAT is the author’s biggest achievement. I might read next in the series though (no, not really)
While I was reading this, it reminded me a lot about my Italy visit, pasta, pizza, and a few of my amazing friends there. They definitely made my stay memorable there and believe me when I say this NONE of them actually belonged to/with the mafia. Maybe they are, what the heck do I know? But if you find romance in Italy, 90% of the chance is that the person should not be related to Mafia, at all. Just saying…

Aftermath: (possible spoilers) I mentioned earlier that I might read next on in the series, but I am too terrified to get myself caught in (view spoiler)[incest (hide spoiler)] romance. It would be more than I have ever bargained for. If someone can drop me a message to make sure it is not that, I would really appreciate it and there are chances I would make an attempt to read it though. Ciao!...more

After I finishing this book, my first thought was, the books are not named appropriately... the #1 should have been Symbiont 'cause the original purpose of D. symbogenesis parasite was to have symbiont relationship with its host, but it turned out parasitic in nature as we can conclude from this book :(
What is the difference between parasitism and symbiosis?
Symbiosis is a close relationship between two species in which at least one species benefits. ... Parasitism is a symbiotic relationship in which one species (the parasite) benefits while the other species (the host) is harmed.
The story moves at a sluggish pace and I was so over by how many times Sal's gonna lose consciousness. I mean there should be a limit of how many times our protagonist is allowed to faint.
At the end of the book, I read that this series was supposed to be duology than a trilogy, well I'd have liked with duology option better...

Aftermath: (possible spoilers) I think the main reason I was bored with this one was 'Don't go out alone' didn't show up as much as #1. That little nugget was amazing...I understand it is cherry on the top kind of thing but it didn't go unnoticed.
Also, as Sherman mentioned in #1 that every Symbiont has been designed specifically to fulfill the host's specific need, and I was just waiting for the answer of what type of symbiont Sally's was but we haven't provided with specific answer...only vague speculations...[sigh]
While I am starting on #3 of this series, I sure hope that it would be better than this......more

This is a long ass book – not my words, Ruby’s *chuckle
Faith has been sucked into Fantasy world which resembles to set of Game of Thrones. Upon arriving, she was captured and sold a slave for a God’s offering. Somehow she managed to get selected herself as Anchor and saves all other women who basically would be otherwise will be slaughtered as god offering.
Aron is god of Battles and Thunder (I don’t know how that is possible, but let’s get going, shall we?) and has been exiled by High Father from Aether. His personalities are split into 4 different people, arrogance, apathy, lies and hedonism, which means there are 4 gods walking this earth with same face and each has to hunt other. The last one standing will be descended back to Aether having fight and defeated all 4 heinous personality traits and claim himself a God again.
Faith is stuck being as Anchor (a mortal medium) of arrogant Aron and they start their journey to defeat other bad Arons.

Barney Stinson - a jerk, I can't help loving... [image]
Aftermath: (possible spoilers)
This is not a bad Sci-Fi romance plot at all and I enjoyed all twist and turns with Faith and Aron. It’s just that Aron was hard to like character from start and that has been justified more than once but that didn’t help me feel irritated with him and I was right along with Faith when she wanted to strangle the said god to death. The romance is slow burner and fully takes advantage of sexual tension between main characters. Overall, I enjoyed the book even though it has taken longer than expected for me to read the book.
Reading a long book is a big commitment but Dixon did a good job maintaining inserting humor, light hearted moment to stop having a book so intense. ...more

Zera: She is young. She is terrified. She is playing dress-up. She is playing a very dangerous game. She is Heartless.
Prince Lucian is nothing special of sorts. He is a crown prince who tries to be Robinhood sometimes and mourns after his dead sister. I mean you need to get 'good' kind hearted prince in order for our Heartless to lose her heart over. and boy she does...
Wolf has created a new mythic monster to fan over. There are similar traits to vampire and Heartless - both feels hunger for human flesh and blood and considers humans nothing but preys at time - but there is humanity in them...a shadow of previous life before they become hideous creatures...
There is interesting turns of events which makes me want to read #2...so I consider this a success right now....Lucian whom I consider nothing special at all might turn up something interesting after all...one way or another....

This is story of 2 children (Lada and Radu) left behind their father (Vlad Dracul) in another country as peace treaty. Eventually everyone forgets about them - the key people who have made this decision whereas our precious kids grows up fearing for their lives in enemy country. That is just ironic...
Lada looked at Murad with cold fury, her voice trembling with pain. “You do not remember?”
Radu leaned heavily against the wall, a bitter laugh trapped in his throat. The man who had stolen them, the man they had lived in terror of all these years, the man who had destroyed their lives did not even remember them. The secret to their survival, then, revealed not Mehmed, not the grace of God, but rather an oversight by a man who could not be bothered to keep track of them.
Of course, the situation is remediated sooner and the politics starts and a great deal, a large portion of book is spent on politics and religious matters. It also covers great deal of feminism and homosexuality. Basically, you might want to think of all controversial topics you could find and imagine it a book – a rather interesting mix, I’d say.
The love triangle is also very interesting and rather unusual. Because Radu and Lada both have only 1 anchor or a friend in foreign country, so they both fall in love with same man and that causes enough heart break for both of them. And when Lada finds out about Radu’s love interest - [image]

I am still conflicted how I feel about this one. I picked this up despite of ugly-ugly cover because I read one of my friends review for its sister-series. This has Ice Planet Barbarian feel to it but more militia and political drama thrown into it.
What got on my nerves -
spelling mistakes (there are few not much) POV change (from first to third?? in the middle chapter - that had definitely tested my resolve to finish this) Repetition (Oh my God! so many repeated conversations - I won't lie, I skipped it) Nikhil's my 'little one' crap (no, he is not calling any kid but his true mate - do I need to say more?)
But True Mate stuff was interesting enough with beads and all alien 'History'. This series has potential but there are so many things you have to ignore in order to enjoy the story, sometimes mistakes out weight the good stuff.
