OKAY. So I do recognize that books that the last three books have been kind of similar in plot but I ATE IT UP EACH TIME. I already need the next one.

Why You Should Read This Series:
1. Did you grow up reading Wattpad or A03? The pacing is giving those really long books that you just cannot put down. I think that is why I am so addicted to the way this series is written. So much happens and yet we are still on the same path.
OR
Do you like playing DND? It kind of gives that as well. There are lots of character interactions, some random fights, and a goal that kind of feels like it could go on forever but also finish in one session. Obviously, this book also has a lot of sex in it, which I am hoping your DND sessions do not, but I guess I won't judge.
2. Do you like books where the characters actually enjoy each other's company? These ones do in a few different ways, and the characters are FUN! I love how they are growing, and it is fun when they all interact with each other.
Sometimes we just have to read because we enjoy reading. And that is what Marie Mistry gives me time and time again. ...more

There were good parts that I would’ve liked to see more of:
“Niamh could not content herself with obedience” - what a good line that showed us who she was. In the moments where I couldn’t tell her personality and when I wish she had been a bit more true to her character I tried to think back on this line and how much truth was in it.
Her illness is like a funny version of tendinitis. I would like to have it actually impact her more. To further her character not just the story.
There were some fun familiar parts:
Kit because of Cinderella 2015 Disney movie? - very fun.
Very Bridgerton coded - with The Tattler which was fun in moments and disappointing in others.
And there were many moments I wish I could change:
Sometimes modern words felt out of place. But that is the least of this stories worries.
The work she was doing in the beginning was so interesting. And then it really fell off in the middle. Her magic was the most interesting part and it wasn’t used as a plot point enough.
On top of that the romance was lacklustre - it felt forced in almost every relationship.
And as a final thought the line “No good ever came from loving fragile things” should have been a bit more heavy handed. Was she not ill? Not fragile? I just wish that plot point had been a bit more used. It was title for goodness sake.
So the main reason this book gets three stars is because our "hero" did not give me hero at all.

Sometimes books try to do so much that they forget the original premise, and that is what it felt like was going on here. Why did we not get to see this “hero” of witches be a hero at all? She was supposed to be clever but seemed to easily be caught and had to be rescued. It is like there was a prequel that I forgot to read.
It was an interesting concept but was missing so much. But I didn't dislike it. I liked the ways that the characters interacted with each other and I am excited to read the next one....more

But then I think about how I can read any kinda not very good fantasy and be like, "Yes, that one is perfect." So maybe this one just wasn't for me. It had very similar vibes to The Hazel Wood, which I also liked but didn't love.
The main problem with this one was the romance. I just didn’t enjoy their relationship at all. It would have been better without it.
Okay, so YES. I did pick this up because the library had it tagged as Mothman. Thank you for noticing. It is a big part of my personality.

But what I thought might be just a silly little summer read ended up being so much deeper than I imagined. The pacing was a little bit off at the start, but by the second half, I was racing through it.
What I Enjoyed The Most:
1. Mothman: OVBIOUSLY. What a FUN take. My little guy is just THERE working HARD, and I AM PROUD OF HIM.
2. The Witches: I quite enjoyed how they each had their own little ability that they used to help the town. It was kind of giving a version of Disney's Encanto, but instead of Linden being powerless, she seems to be a bit too powerful.
3. The Mystery: This book was a bit twisty. I did not see it going where it ended up, and that is the fun of a spooky summer read! It set us up for multiple intriguing mysteries to help solve, and I enjoyed each one more than the last!
4. The Setting: I want to read more about YESS rural Appalachia. I realize that I need the beautifully dark forests and vast mountain ranges in my life.
Please recommend more books like this to me to enjoy my spooky little life. Thank you. ...more
